NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – November 3, 2023

MASSIVE SCAR ERA Eclectic Egyptian Orchestral Metal EP “Metal Goes Egyptian” Is Out Now!

Through their seventh offering, “Metal Goes Egyptian”, Canada’s Massive Scar Era invites heavy music enthusiasts worldwide to feel the intensity and energy of metal while being embraced by the melodic beauty and cultural nuances of traditional Egyptian Arabic music. This groundbreaking EP is an opportunity for open-minded listeners to embark on a musical journey that transcends boundaries and creates a unique fusion of genres. Visionary, band leader, vocalist, and guitarist Cherine Amr shares her excitement for the release:

“It has been an incredible journey, collaborating with an exceptional team of musicians, producers, and video creators. Together, we have crafted a musical experience that merges the power of metal with the enchantment of Arabic music. From the remarkable orchestral arrangements by Weka Soliman to the dedication of the sound production team led by Etienne Tremblay, every individual involved has contributed their talent and passion, ensuring a seamless and extraordinary outcome.”

“Metal Goes Egyptian” is a six-track EP, that crosses musical boundaries, taking melodies and instrumentals from Arabic music and contrasting it with the grittiness of post-grunge and eclecticness of progressive metal. With the addition of an orchestral, it exudes courage, passion, and complexity.

The formation of Massive Scar Era stemmed from Amr’s desire to delve into songwriting within a complete band framework. Over the years it has been changing with her immigration from Egypt to Canada and further relocation. She chose to view this as an opportunity to engage in collaborations with diverse arrangers and songwriters in every release, who have all contributed to the wide array of elements found throughout the music.

“Metal Goes Egyptian” is very distinct and will be particularly appealing to those who appreciate a diverse range of folkloric influences as well as Dream Theater, Dimmu Borgir, and Septic Flesh.

“Steeped in Metal, but bridging the gap to Egyptian music, Massive Scar Era is a Metal band you need to know about in 2023. The brainchild of visionary artist Cherine Amr, their new EP Metal Goes Egyptian, the seventh release in her career, is coming out in November. Not only does the band creative a ground-breaking mix of Metal and world music, Cherine had to flee her country where “the devil’s music” is forbidden to create, let alone defying gender norms that could lead to punishment, or worse. With its unique fusion of Prog Rock, post-Grunge, Egyptian music, and Heavy Metal, the group just released a new single “Between Waves!”” – Ghost Cult Magazine

” When you’re a metal act, you either go big or you go home, and going big is what Massive Scar Era does extremely well. Today, the metal ensemble unveiled the video for their new single, “Oblivious,” off of their Metal Goes Egyptian EP. As an in-studio performance video, it’s simple but effective. It’s particularly effective due to the level of precision with which the band plays. Then you add in the orchestral elements, and you have essentially what amounts to a symphony. Beyond band founder and leader Cherine Amr, there are many minds and parties at play to bring this vision to life. Amr collaborates closely with musicians, producers, and video creators. Her goal is to combine heavy metal’s power with traditional Arabic music’s beauty and charisma. You’ll hear it all come together in perfect harmony upon Metal Goes Egyptian’s official release on November 3rd.” – V13

Brace yourselves, for the unrelenting onslaught of Foetal Juice, is back and more gruesome than ever with their ninth album, “Grotesque”. This death metal powerhouse, known for devastating riffs and lyrical content that draws inspiration from the darkest corners of humanity, their songs are a visceral commentary on the idiocy and cruelty of mankind, targeting those who deserve a sonic reckoning. “Ghoul Amongst the Mouldering Dead” is the latest single and the one they enjoy playing the most. They comment on the musical direction and lyrical content of the track:

“Our guitarist has worked on the running riffs quite a lot to make them sound complex enough without turning it too melodic. For the middle section, we wanted to make it really heavy for the headbangers at shows. Something for everyone in the crowd to enjoy, even the miserable cunt at the back with their arms crossed. Lyrically this is a lot more serious than the others. It’s about the soldiers in the First World War who were stuck in no man’s land having to eat the flesh of the dead to survive.”

According to the band, this is the song that represents them the best on this album. It draws in sections from all of their influences from Old Death Metal, Grind, Black Metal to Gore-laden groove and ferocious stabs.

Watch and listen to the video for “Ghoul Amongst the Mouldering Dead” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Foetal Juice has grown to become a death metal juggernaut known for its unrelenting brutality and uncompromising sound. With a career spanning multiple albums and splits, they’ve carved a niche for themselves in the extreme metal scene. “Grotesque” promises to be their most savage and unrelenting work to date, a relentless onslaught of sound that will leave listeners in awe. It is recommended for fans of Napalm Death, Terrorizer, and Cannibal Corpse.

“Grotesque” is due out on November 17th, 2023 via Gore House Productions and is available for album pre-order (Cassette/ CD)/digital) pre-save at https://orcd.co/grotesque.

“it is rare for a genre this ingrained to be played straight with such eagerness and unrelenting energy, and that alone puts Foetal Juice ahead of the pack.” – 4/5 – Angry Metal Guy

“Gluttony shows us FOETAL JUICE at their fastest, heaviest and most aggressive. They’ve taken the fire and surging adrenaline of their live shows and have harnessed that power and it’s been manifested into their sophomore record. Full of grit and gristle that will not be for everybody, but if you fancy some gloriously grotesque death metal, look no further and indulge yourself in a bit of filth.” 9/10 – Distorted Sound Mag

“When the band says that they are at the top of their game and the album is death metal from the top tier, more capable of taking on the biggest names in the genre – and winning, it not just shallow brag. It’s completely true.” – The Razors Edge

“The punishment for gluttony is to be forced fed rats, snakes and toads. Foetal Juice make you swallow something far more repulsive.” – Moshville Times

“Dragging death metal kicking and screaming back to its putrid past (i.e. the late 80’s / early 90’s), the deviants in Manchester’s Foetal Juice deliver nothing but the finest old-school onslaught on their second album, Gluttony. Gorging on the very life-force of death metal’s founding fathers means that Foetal Juice share an undeniable kinship with the likes of Cannibal Corpse (think Bloodthirst era) and Master (circa On the Seventh Day god Created …Master) as they steadfastly go about their barbaric business. That is to say that Foetal Juice take the tastiest chunks of these bands and re-form them into a meaty platter of modern sounding death metal with an old-school twist.” – Worship Metal

Featuring 11 tracks of relentless brutality, each song is its own short horror story. For this record, The Convalescence really wanted to continue down the path of what they’ve done on past releases “This Is Hell” and “Monument Of Misery” but also experiment with some new ideas while still bringing everyone the gore-filled lyrics and bloodthirsty riffs that their fans expect. Filthy, brutal, and symphonic, The Convalescence is recommended for fans of Carnifex, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Chelsea Grin.

0 Montreal’s KAPITUR (ft. members Spectral Wound, Cauchemar, Metalian) New Video “Nature Morte” Explores Post-Trauma Disembodiment Off New EP “Covered in Dust”

Montreal, QC – November 2, 2023

Montreal’s KAPITUR (ft. members Spectral Wound, Cauchemar, Metalian, Massive Scar Era) New Video “Nature Morte” Explores Post-Trauma Disembodiment

New EP “Covered in Dust” Out Now!

What began as an individual endeavor by Brazilian cellist and vocalist Bruna Wanderley, who now calls Montreal, Canada home, has now come to fruition as a full-fledged band known as Kapitur, which features members from Montreal’s Spectral Wound, Cauchemar, Metalian, Ratpiss and Massive Scar Era. With a completed lineup in 2022, Kapitur unleashed an introductory cover single of Sepultura’s “Roots Bloody Roots” with an astonishing music video to great acclaim.

Not wasting any time between releases, in July 2023, the band unshackled their debut EP “Covered in Dust”, a heavy, ethereal, and atmospheric record, that was a personal songwriting and instrumental exploration by band founder Bruna Wanderley.

Released as a conceptual work, “Covered in Dust” burns down everything, that held Bruna back and allows her to flourish over the trauma.

Bruna explains the EP in further detail:

“Thematically, the EP speaks from personal experience. Inspired by the intrinsic struggles of exile, relationship trauma, and the safe space found in sci-fi literature, the record travels through wonder, solitude, and disillusionment. The existential themes are metaphors for the process of leaving one’s own homeland, failing to adapt, and making someone else your home to then yearn for salvation. The music moves from bleak cacophony to comforting melodies played on the cello, with warm, sorrowful tones that take you on an individual journey in a timeless space. A soul-burning amalgamation of chaos and beauty that unfolds an atmosphere and pace that allows for the coexistence of tranquility and despair.”

Today, Kapitur presents their new video for the EP’s opening track “Nature Morte”, a song that was inspired by the ferocity of artists like Jarboe and Myrkur, who have influenced Bruna to compose, sing, and learn gutturals.

Bruna explains further:

“The main riff in the song came to fruition on the cello, while the other instruments were added to suit its atypical presence. NM is about post-trauma disembodiment, the feeling of dissociating from your body and emotions in order to cope. Amidst an intangible turmoil, we tranquilize ourselves in the trivial only to become passive observers. Not seeing things for what they are, we give way to madness. Lost in our disembodiment, a distressed inner voice that had been shut calls for help, to the realization of our denial and numbness. This track is the only one that follows the familiar form of verse-chorus-bridge-outro.”

This video was a collaborative effort between Bruna Wanderley, Andres Arango, Sam Neumann, and Tyler Addey-Jibb. Filmed between Canada and Brazil with the help of friends and family along with being edited by Ben Tonkin in the UK.

“after hearing this gorgeous album, I knew it was something to bring my attention back. Wonderful melodic and crushing cello doom never sounded so beautiful. Heavy doom sections with blasting drums and gritty guitars. Phenomenal vocals, then they bring the gorgeous sorrow. The album deconstructs everything and makes it flourish. It tears at your emotions and soul. Blackened doom is a genre I love digging through and I found a masterpiece with this album!” – Doom Heart

“You’ll certainly fall in love for the thunderous sound of her cello, placing her among the most interesting new names of the independent scene in Canada.” – The Headbanging Moose

EPK – Strigampire – All To Dominate (2023)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

Band: Strigampire
Album Title: All To Dominate
Release Date: December 15, 2023
Label: Self-Release
Distribution: DistroKid

“We believe that our fans will greet our new album with great excitement, as we’ve worked hard to deliver something fresh and thrilling while maintaining our unique musical style. It’s worth mentioning that it has been 5 years since we last released material, and even 3 years since our last performance due to the pandemic and lineup issues.

Our new album also introduces two new members to the lineup, bringing their own styles and personal touches to our music. However, I think what will truly set this album apart is the involvement of Willy Thousand in the songwriting process. Some tracks were written by Johnny, and others by Willy, who joined the group in 2016. He managed to adapt to the band’s direction while adding his distinct style.

We believe this is the best production we’ve ever done. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Donaldson, who has managed to give this album an incredibly powerful and impactful sound. We’re eagerly anticipating our fans’ reactions when they discover these new songs, and we hope they’ll continue to support our music.

With this album, we aim to provide an immersive listening experience for our fans. We want to take them on a journey through the various songs on the album, addressing diverse themes and emotions. That’s why the order of the songs on the album is always important to us, as we want the experience to be complete and coherent. We come from the old school and still consider an album as a complete work that should be listened to from start to finish.

Musically, we maintain a similar recipe to our previous albums while also reinventing ourselves a bit. Some songs have a more black metal style, others lean towards rock; some are highly aggressive, while others are more melodic and tempered. Even though it remains melodic and has nothing to do with mathcore or technical death metal, we showcase each member’s musical skills through frantic guitar solos and high-energy drum rhythms.” – Strigampire

2023 Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champion (Bravewords)

“Feverishly jittery riffing, a booming low-end pulse, and bestial snarls build anticipation for what’s to come, and what comes is a rushing phalanx of jolting grooves, slashing and searing chords, riotously swirling leads, and scorch-the-earth vocals. The song (Sold Our Soul) hammers the pulse, and there’s abundant devilry in it too, as well as near-sung gang yells, tumbling percussive fills, deliriously exultant soloing that soars to screaming heights — and a break for a beer. But there’s a kind of mystical melodic line that also slithers through the heavy metal exultation until the soloing rockets it high.” – NoCleanSinging

“Quebec’s Strigampire Dominate Canada’s Wacken Battle. Next Stop the World with All to Dominate” Decibel Magazine

“Hailing from Trois-Riviers, Quebec, Strigampire were this year’s Canadian Wacken Battle winners. So, belated congrats to them for that. The second feather in this year’s successful cap has been added with the forthcoming release of their latest and third full length, All to Dominate. Weaving in a variety of extreme styles under a banner of extensive melodic crafting and the sense that they are the life of any party they RSVP to, Strigampire (the name is a combination of the Italian word for “witch” and the English word for “vampire”) offers up a seat on a carousel powered by rapid fire compositions, shredding guitars and a vocalist who’d just as tickle your funny bone as bounce a hammer off it. Think Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth.” – Decibel Magazine

“Huit albums métal à découvrir en décembre…. Strigampire All To Dominate” – Thorium Magazine

“This has a bit of a Children of Bodom vibe, melodic, keyboardy, catchy and heavy thrashy too.” – The Mosh Pit – WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“There is rarely an album that I like from start to finish. I had never heard of Strigampire before and therefore went about it impartially. Before I chose the album for review, I listened to the previously released single „ Liberty “. Here I noticed that I like the music. After listening to the whole album, I can only confirm that the good sound runs all over the record and is really fun. The sound is fast, with strong riffs, driving base drums and loud, partly screeching vocals. I have not found a precise indication of the genre to which the band defines itself. Anyway, the disc will please every fan of speed and thrash metal. There I definitely classify „ All To Dominate “. So I am thrilled with excellent in-house productions and is at the forefront of my Metal Favorites list. Track 10 „ TNT “ as AC / DC cover is the icing on the top and completes the album perfectly. After the Canadians delivered such a brilliant album, it is not surprising that the boys qualified for a performance at the Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2023 at the Wacken Open Air. For „ All To Dominate “ I have 10 out of 10 Hellfire points” – Hellfire Magazin

“Five years beyond the last album One Fix, Nine Clouds & Six Feet Deep, Strigampire appeals to a great cross-section of underground (and above) metalheads through the work present on All to Dominate. Prepare to be devastated in a firestorm and crawl out in survival mode to these songs – as the future looks quite bright for these musicians. 8.5/10” – Ded Rhetoric

“”All To Dominate” is a solid release, especially for fans of Dark Tranquility and At The Gates.” – Amplified-Magazin

“All in all, the new STRIGAMPIRE silver disc still impressively underlines why the five-piece won the preliminary decision for the Wacken Metal Battle Canada. With their mix of melodic black and death metal, which is driven forward by a very pronounced rock DNA, the Canadians have a very unique mix of styles with them…. you have to put the quintet on your musical notepad for the future. 8/10″ – PowerMetal.de

“For a band hovering in the darker sides of metal, the songs are surprisingly upbeat. It’s often the vocals that sound the darkest and more extreme—here we have a cross between melodic death growls and black metal screeches. The songs are fast and melodic, and I found it very hard to sit still while listening to them as they all, without exception, just get you going —prepare for intense headbanging, air guitaring, maybe trying to sing along, or at the very least get the foot tapping. My favourite song is “Sold Our Soul”; the beginning always makes me stop whatever I’m doing, and then it’s just headbanging frenzy. The songs have kind of a European power metal energy to them: fast (I’ve said that), heavy, pounding, and very catchy. If they used cleaner vocals, I wouldn’t be surprised if heavy/power metallers who don’t mind harsher, rougher music would get into this, though I would advise the band not to try that—the vocal style is a perfect match for their music. The album ends with a cover of AC/DC’s “T.N.T.”, probably my second favourite (as of this writing) as it is an excellent cover of that classic song. The vocals here are different, a good hybrid of the harsh style and that of Bon Scott’s—definitely interesting, and the band’s rendition of the song is fucking excellent. I think Bon Scott would approve… Fucking good stuff, and no wonder they won that Wacken contest with such quality material. 4.75/5″ – The Metal Crypt

“the band spearheaded by the unstoppable frontman Steve De Cotret delivered an incendiary performance, with pentagrams all over the stage and with Steve running around the venue, screaming in the faces of some of the attendees and so on, putting his heart and soul into his vocals. It was an insane show full of energy and darkness, and if you enjoy the more modern version of Black Metal from the Quebec scene, you should listen to all of their wicked creations on Spotify.” – The Headbanging Moose (Live Review – Wacken Metal Battle Canada 2023)

“the Canadian quintet walk the line between throat-shredding aggression and accessible melodies.” – Decibel Magazine (2018 – “One Fix, Nine Clouds and Six Feet Deep”)

“Charisma, efficiency, and talent are three fitting words to describe Strigampire’s performance. With music that blends the finest elements of black metal and melodic death metal, and a phenomenal stage presence.” Fred Laroche – Capitale Du Métal

“This group is a treasure from Quebec and they did not come back from Wacken Open Air in Germany for nothing, they were finally noticed after years of work and it is well deserved because they are in their place performing in front of us with such conviction. We are talking about musicians of great quality with a lot of movement despite the difficulty of what they play most of the time. I would have loved for them to play on the big stage with the big sound, but it was Mononc Serge and Anonymus who were coming to close the long day of festivities.” – Metal Universe

“A music group from Trois-Rivières, Strigampire, will participate in the most important death metal festival, Wacken Open Air, this summer in Germany.”  CBC Radio Canada
“It’s the story of five teenagers who form a musical group at the age of 15. They rehearse at school at lunchtime, in their parents’ basement or garage in the evenings and on weekends. They have nourished their passion for more than 20 years. They could never have suspected that this adventure would lead them to the most prestigious international heavy metal music competition. The Strigampire group from Trois-Rivières will represent Canada at the Wacken Battle Music in Germany on August 2.” – L’Hebdo Journal

“Throughout the album (One Fix, Nine Clouds and Six Feet Deep), the Canadian quintet walk the line between throat-shredding aggression and accessible melodies.” – Decibel Magazine

“Strigampire are a melodic death metal band offering a unique blend of aggression, bitterness and power combined with a rock and roll attitude.” – La Grosse Radio Metal
““The Only Hell I Know” balances between ripping vocals and galloping, melodic riffs.” – Decibel Magazine (2018 – One Fix, Nine Clouds and Six Feet Deep)

“If a combo has reached a level like STRIGAMPIRE on “One Fix, Nine Clouds & Six Feet Deep”, you can’t make enough use of it. Two thumbs up for this fine piece of melodic death lead entertainment!” – PowerMetal.de

About The Album Artwork

The title “All To Dominate” can be interpreted in various ways depending on the context. Originally, the idea was “altogether to dominate,” emphasizing a collective effort to achieve domination. This is reflected in the image of Stan, who encourages people to follow him toward freedom and life, away from the oppression of the time when the album was written.

On the other hand, the title can also be understood as “Everything to dominate,” meaning that all the necessary resources to achieve domination are available. The artwork illustrates Stan motivating people to take control of their lives. The album artwork is double-sided. On the back, it’s clear that the people are ready to be revitalized.

The second image also reveals a darker reality, suggesting that power can sometimes corrupt.

The artwork offers an engaging perspective, giving the impression of being part of the crowd, creating a triangular shape with Stan at the top, evoking an image reminiscent of the Eye of Providence above a pyramid. This reference can be interpreted spiritually, encouraging the search for knowledge and a deeper understanding of life and faith.

Ultimately, the meaning of “All To Dominate” depends on the listener’s perspective and the context in which they listen to the album. This adds depth and a multifaceted dimension to the album, allowing each person to find their own interpretation.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Lyrically: The album tackles various themes such as personal struggles, and global issues like economic inequalities and social injustices. Grief is also one of the subjects explored on the album. Despite this, the prevailing messages conveyed in most of the lyrics are about perseverance and courage to keep moving forward despite hardships. I strive to write introspective lyrics, expressing emotions like sadness, frustration, and anger, but also hope and determination. The lyrics encourage listeners to reflect on their own lives and take action to overcome the obstacles in their path. Listeners can expect an album that addresses universal themes.

Musically: All To Dominate skillfully blends various musical elements, ranging from Black/Death Metal to Heavy Metal and Rock, offering a rich and diverse sonic experience. Powerful guitar moments, crazy solos, and impactful rhythms demonstrate undeniable mastery of the instruments. However, the melodic and melancholic sections serve as a reminder that emotion remains at the core of each composition. This balance between technical expertise and emotional depth creates an intense and emotionally charged musical experience!

About Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

LIBERTY
Lyrically: The first song of the album addresses the psychological and emotional consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on people, as well as the deceptive maneuvers of governments to pacify the masses. I also express my frustration and anger towards the situation and encourage listeners to unite in the fight against tyranny and to regain lost freedom. I criticize the measures taken to contain the pandemic, which have led to isolation, fear, and anxiety, highlighting their detrimental impact on the mental health of the population.

Musically: This song kicks off the album, brilliantly capturing the variety of moods that unfold through our melodies. Although precise labeling of metal styles and subgenres isn’t my forte, I would say it starts with a fast and thrashy riff, subtly guiding us towards powerful and rock-oriented sections, an evolution we increasingly incorporate into our songs. Then, a guitar solo in Johnny Dead’s style emerges, followed by a bridge that quickly returns us to the initial atmosphere, concluding with a warrior-like riff that urges one to wreak havoc all around!

DOMINATE THEM ALL

Lyrically: “Dominate Them All” encourages people to rise against obstacles and fight for what they want in life. In this song, free will play the role of a true referee who gives you time when you’re down to reflect on what’s not right in your fighting technique. You can then get up and implement a different approach to defeat the opponent. It’s good to be strong and resilient in taking hits, but constantly falling can lead to demotivation and failure, which may result in giving up. Hence the importance of studying the opponent and not losing sight of the ultimate goal – emerging victorious from every battle rather than merely settling for having tried.

Musically: This song marks a turning point in the evolution of our music! “Dominate Them All” will be the first Strigampire track you hear that wasn’t composed by Johnny Dead! Yes, on this album, a few compositions bear the signature of Willy Thousand, and we are very pleased with the result! Will, who has been performing with Strig since 2016, has gradually immersed himself in our style while bringing something new to it.

The song begins with a fairly smooth and catchy riff, but it quickly takes us into a different atmosphere. Guitars filled with melancholy under a rapid drumbeat where the bass drum resonates like machine guns on a battlefield! Moreover, during Johnny’s solo, you can feel the vibe of a military march, giving a sense of invincibility, as if nothing could stop us from advancing! It’s a direction you wouldn’t expect when the piece starts!

SOLD OUR SOUL

Lyrically: “Sold Our Soul” talks about our passion for Heavy Metal music. I explain that we dedicate our lives to music, even if it means making sacrifices. I reference the idea of selling our soul to the devil for the love of Heavy and rock music!

I elaborate that, in my opinion, it’s important to sometimes stop fixating on the horizon and thinking about the destination, and instead take the time to appreciate the wonders that surround us in this wild adventure along the path of life. I believe that our most beautiful moments occur when we veer off the road and venture into uncharted territory. Even if the journey is occasionally bumpy, we never cease to move forward! For us, it’s when we venture off the common path that we truly find what makes us proud.

Musically: “Sold Our Soul” eloquently explains why we are an Extreme Rock band! It’s truly an anthem to Heavy Metal! The atmosphere surrounding it is electrifying and incredibly badass. However, at times, it delves into a more mystical and less in-your-face ambiance, with a guitar melody that gradually evolves to culminate in an epic solo, emblematic of the rock & roll spirit.

This song embodies a remarkable fusion of rock’s fervour and the extravagance of metal. The high-energy elements seamlessly blend with introspective moments, creating a striking balance. In essence, “Sold Our Soul” is a true reflection of our identity as an Extreme Rock band, celebrating the roots of Heavy Metal and capturing the raw energy and melodic finesse that characterize our music.

IN THE MAZE OF THE LOST

Lyrically: “In The Maze Of The Lost” narrates the personal struggle of a man against his inner demons and addictions. I describe the mindset of an addict who is unable to find a way out of his problem, much like someone lost in a labyrinth. His addiction pulls him towards the abyss and causes him to lose all forms of trust, whether it’s in others or in himself. It’s only when he realizes that he’s deceiving himself that he recognizes his once seemingly harmless consumption has now become a significant issue. His desire to overcome leads him to set aside his pride and ask for help.

Musically: The second song, composed by Willy, begins with a melodic intro over a breathless blast beat. This is followed by a break where the lead guitar evokes a Finnish influence, creating a bridge to a highly rhythmic riff, accompanied by captivating vocal lines and a drumbeat that’s equally engaging. Finally, it transitions into a groovy cadence where the strings and drums come together to deliver powerful and impactful punches. All of this is accompanied by a guitar solo that belongs to the realm of competition!

WHERE I BELONG

Lyrically: The message primarily revolves around a character who battles their doubts, fears, and insecurities to reach the place that is promised to them. It’s the story of a person who charges forward without concern for those trying to slow them down in the pursuit of their dream. Perseverance and determination are once again highlighted in this text, with a strong emphasis on self-confidence and faith in one’s own abilities.

Musically: It’s hard to believe that the music of “Where I Belong” was written about fifteen years ago. Of course, we reworked certain passages when we pulled it out of the vault, but the essence remained the same! It’s a very brutal piece, arguably the most aggressive on the album! There are plenty of blast beats, sometimes straightforward and punchy guitar riffs, but also a melancholic chorus. Throughout the piece, the atmosphere is electrifying, culminating in a conclusion that reminds me a bit of “Summer Dying Fast” by Cradle of Filth. However, Johnny concludes the piece with an epic solo and a magical touch of rock emotion that is uniquely his own!

BASKING IN PARADISE

Lyrically: The song “Basking in Paradise” denounces economic inequalities and social injustices caused by the exploitation of resources by the wealthy in the West. I refer to the plight of impoverished countries being stripped of their natural wealth by the greed of the upper class, who take advantage of it to live in opulence.

There’s a tone of anger and frustration in the lyrics, describing the negative consequences of this exploitation on the local population. I also mention corrupt and insatiable leaders who are never satisfied with what they have and continue to exploit the resources of impoverished nations. I call for solidarity and equality for all.

Musically: “Basking in Paradise” is one of those songs that were composed many years ago but remained unfinished until now. It is evident that we can feel the influences of Black Metal from that time, just like in “Where I Belong.” Overall, I’d say it’s the song that maintains the Black Metal ambiance the longest. It starts off strongly with a riff over a blast beat, taking us to the chorus, then immerses us in another Black Metal atmosphere but with a different cadence. This transition paves the way for a kind of narration on my part, leading us to a break that swiftly returns us to the initial structure.

However, we took care to introduce some variations in the drum rhythm, which helps the listener orient themselves within the song. This sense of orientation is crucial, especially to avoid being suddenly overwhelmed by the grandiose finale, where the guitar melodies take the forefront in a striking manner! An instrumental conclusion that has the power to enchant the listener and plunge them into a deep trance!

DEATH SILENCE

Lyrically: This song is the last one I wrote, and at that time, I was struggling with the dreaded writer’s block, unable to put into words the ideas swirling in my head. Eventually, I found inspiration by drawing a parallel between this creative pause and the pause imposed on the entire world during the pandemic. I explored the similarities between the adverse effects of these two dormant periods.

As the words took shape, I realized that what I missed the most was not just the words to compose a song, but that sense of unity and sharing of emotions with our audience during our live performances.

The song concludes by evoking the terror that a blank page can instill. However, it also carries a message of hope by reminding us that a blank page is not just an emptiness but an opportunity to write a new chapter in our story.

Musically: After two tracks steeped in the essence of Black Metal, “Death Silence” arrives, starting with a long instrumental introduction. However, when this piece takes flight, hold on tight, because its intense thrash metal rhythm, flirting with punk, will amp you up solidly before suddenly propelling you into an ambient segment.

This is where things get intriguing, with floor tom beats, tom rolls, and a narrative voice leading to enchanting guitar melodies. The ensemble creates a floating atmosphere, and suddenly, the chorus erupts like an explosion with a gang vocal, brutally bringing you back to earth in an instant! So yeah!!

The conclusion of this song is one of the most explosive in the entire album! It’s truly a musical detonation that leaves everything in ruins in its wake!

THE DAY I JOIN YOU

Lyrically: “The Day I’ll Join You” is a letter addressed to a recently departed loved one. The abrupt ending has left me with a feeling of confusion and distress as the cause of the death remains unknown to this day. I explain to them that they’re probably better off up there and that they’re not missing out much here, highlighting the ongoing war in Ukraine and the infamous COVID-19 pandemic.

In this song, I express frustration and sadness over the global issues caused by humanity. Humans have the capacity to create incredible things, but unfortunately, they also use that capacity to cause significant harm to their own planet and species. This situation allowed me to accept and better understand the motivations of my friend, in case she had foreseen her own passing.

Musically: The first time I heard “The Day I’ll Join You,” I was a bit surprised by Johnny’s artistic direction. The song had an atmosphere all its own, somewhat different from what we usually do. I felt that same surprise with “Death Silence,” written by Willy. However, once I found the theme that matched the music, I truly immersed myself in the atmosphere.

From the very first notes, you can feel a deep melancholy, a distress settling in right from the start. I’d say this song is really like the soundtrack of a film. It feels like we’re following a story with chapters and final resolution. The guitars toward the end thrust us into a whirlwind where madness, incomprehension, and bitterness violently collide.

BRAVE THE TEMPEST

Lyrically: In the final track of the album, I share my perspective on the importance of being attentive to external signs that indicate the need for a change in order to achieve inner well-being. I encourage people to step out of their comfort zones, face challenges, and make changes in their behaviour and outlook on life in order to regain inner peace.

Musically: “Brave the Tempest,” the album’s final track! Our very first ballad, well, almost! Haha! No, not really, but there is still a slower-paced refrain, tinged with melancholy, where hope and determination linger. This song encourages us to rise up and confront life with a determined attitude. I quickly got to the refrain to explain why, in my opinion, it’s our ballad, but in reality, the song is very energetic and mainly composed of catchy riffs.

This song was the shortest one we had, and it was among the three songs that had been sleeping in our repertoire for a few years. That’s precisely why we hadn’t used it yet. It was short, and it seemed like something was missing. By reworking it, we finally crafted an epic finale, where Johnny and Willy exchange guitar melodies that evoke in the listener, at least in me, an inner strength that encourages self-improvement and fulfilment in life.

It’s with this feeling that we hope the listener returns from this spiritual journey named “All To Dominate”!

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. We have a mascot that has been featured on all our album covers since our debut full-length album, “Where Torments Drown.” This creature was inspired by the strigoi as described in numerous Romanian legends, but we’ve given it a somewhat more human-like appearance, one could say. It makes its first appearance on our debut album, but you can trace the transformation of this being into the creature by examining the demos we released before the album.

2. On “The Hike Of Life,” released in 2007, you can see a man kneeling, looking at his reflection in a puddle of water. At this point, he still retains a human appearance. Then, in 2008, you can spot him on the roof of a building, observing the carnage he has caused. In this image, the man is now equipped with wings but still maintains a somewhat human physique. It’s on the full album released in 2009 that his transformation is finally complete as well!

3. The name of our creature is Stan. We’re just one “a” away from Satan! But that’s not the primary reason for our choice. In fact, my name is Steve, and the other founding member, Johnny, is actually named Jonathan. If you take the first two letters of my name and the last two of his, it spells Stan. Hehe!

4. On our 2008 demo, when you rotate the cover by 180 degrees, a subliminal image is revealed – it’s quite incredible! Unfortunately, it was only a promotional album with three songs, and it’s now out of stock. Nevertheless, upon reflection, I should seriously consider creating merchandise based on this illustration because I’m continually amazed by the imagination and talent of our artist, Dan ‘Dotel’ Turcotte when I look at this artwork

5. Our current bassist actually played with us at our beginnings in 2001. He left the band in 2003 when we were still just teenagers. Eighteen years later, when we were in search of a bassist, he reached out to me, and since 2021, we have had three original members back in the band. This is something that hasn’t happened since 2005!

6. Johnny and I have been friends since we were 6 years old! It’s been over 30 years now, and we’ve stuck together through thick and thin! Hahaha! The strength of our bond lies in having fun and staying young at heart!

In 2001, Strigampire emerged onto the music scene, captivating audiences with their eloquence and delivering electrifying live performances. Over the years, their intense energy has earned them recognition and opportunities to share the stage with renowned international bands, including Dark Tranquility, Krisiun, Belphegor, Cannibal Corpse, Misery Index, and Despised Icon, among others.

After the release of their demos “The Hike Of Life” (2007) and “Promo 2008,” Strigampire unleashed their first album, “Where Torments Drown,” in 2009, garnering praise from both fans and critics alike. Despite encountering lineup challenges, they persevered and released “The Merry-Go-Round” in 2012. Although an EP showcasing three tracks from their upcoming album was unveiled, the band faced internal struggles, leading to a dissolution in 2013.

However, fueled by their undying passion, the two founding members reunited in 2016 and surrounded themselves with a fresh surge of energy. With three talented and dedicated musicians who share an incomparable chemistry, Strigampire made a triumphant comeback in 2017, leaving an indelible mark on the “Omnium Du Rock” competition, where they emerged as one of the top five finalists out of 125 bands from across Quebec.

Adding to their achievements, the band signed their first record deal with PRC Music in March of the same year. They entered the studio in November and unveiled their highly anticipated single, “The Only Hell I Know”, in early 2018, a prelude to their new album, “One Fix, Nine Clouds & Six Feet Deep,” which was released on March 23. This milestone was followed by a series of exhilarating concerts throughout the province of Quebec.

To commemorate their 18 years as a band, Strigampire released the compilation album “Rarely Legal – 18 Years Of Misconduct” in May 2019. This remarkable album showcases the evolution of two rebellious hearts who share an unwavering passion for the rock and roll lifestyle. The album launch, held in their hometown of Trois-Rivières, marked the departure of Myrdynn and Xander from the band. However, their exit paved the way for Yannick Laplante to reclaim his position as the drummer, a role he previously held from 2005 to 2012. Additionally, Samuel ”Rook” Bédard, a talented musician from Quebec City, joined the formation as a session bass player a few days later.

In 2019, Strigampire unveiled the captivating music video for their song “Dead Of Night,” generating considerable buzz within the music scene. A highly anticipated tour in Quebec was scheduled for May 2020, but unfortunately, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted their plans. Like many others, Strigampire had to adapt and reinvent their strategies to navigate this new reality.

Despite these challenges, the band seized the opportunity presented by the confinement period to focus on composing and promoting their music online. They harnessed this time to push the boundaries of their creativity and refine their distinctive sound.

In 2021, a pivotal moment unfolded when James Foster, a young and talented drummer, answered the band’s call for a member with his remarkable skills. Joining the formation, the band began jamming without a bassist. However, fate had an unexpected twist in store. After an unsuccessful search for a bassist, the vocalist received a call from BadGuy P, the original bassist, and a childhood friend. BadGuy expressed his desire to play music with his former comrades while waiting for a replacement to be found. Against all odds, BadGuy returned to the band after more than twenty years, reuniting three original members from the 2001 lineup.

The following year was marked by an intense period of creativity as the band focused on composing new material. Their hard work culminated in October 2022 when Strigampire entered the studio with Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) to record their highly anticipated third full-length album. In 2023, the band made a triumphant return to the stage, performing at various venues across Quebec to promote their comeback. Among these performances, one stands out as particularly special: the first round of the Wacken Metal Battle Canada, a competition featuring over 60 bands from across the country, with the chance to represent Canada at the legendary Wacken Open Air festival in Germany.

Today, several concerts from this tour are yet to come. The album mixing is complete, and its release is scheduled for December. However, the most exciting news is that Strigampire emerged as the grand winner of the competition and will represent Canada at the Wacken Metal Battle in Germany during this prestigious festival. With over 80,000 tickets sold in less than 8 hours, Strigampire seizes this opportunity to fulfill its ultimate dream: spreading the new sound of extreme rock on a global scale.

The future looks incredibly promising for Strigampire, and the world can expect a musical explosion that will push all boundaries. Get ready to be transported into a whirlwind of raw energy and incendiary riffs because the best is yet to come for this exceptional band.

EPK – Disorientation – Survival Mode (2023)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

EP Title: Survival Mode
Release Date: December 1st, 2023
Label: Self-Release

“This new EP has more of a harder edge compared to our 1st effort, this required a change of sound and we opted for the crisper approach provided by the mixing and mastering of Hugues Deslauriers. Those who already like the band will enjoy it. People new to the band will either like or hate it, or at the least, it will leave them confused. It aims to create tension in the listeners, putting them ill at ease and make them question and wonder what is going on.” – Disorientation

“It sounds all over the place… a very avant-garde vibe to it … It almost feels improvised, it’s like slam poetry but with black metal oboe. This is definitely not going to be for everyone, but I love that weird, kind of obscure random stuff. This is all over the place, it feels improvised, I kind of like it like that, this is Disorientation, which is a perfect band name and title for this self-titled EP.” – Metal Trenches (2021 – Disorientation – EP)

“Canadian band Disorientation produces interesting music. Black/death metal ties with folk instruments and synths. The song Nature, in which the band decorated with plug-ins and acoustic passages and also used choir vocals, caught my attention. They released a three-track self-titled EP; It’s worth taking a look.” – Metal Perver (2021 – Disorientation – EP)

“… a little do-it-yourself project of dark low-fi symphonic metal with a little depressed folkloric side … it’s a pretty interesting little 3-piece EP … the album cover is also magnificent.” – Mtl Metal – CIBL 101.5 FM

About The Album Artwork

It’s a metaphor for all you do, even if it’s considered unacceptable, to be able to deal with the hurt and to keep going in spite of it.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

Survival Mode is more blunt and straightforward than our self-titled EP. It’s about tactics for psychological survival in unpleasant situations.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

1 – Dissociation – This song starts with a fury. The oboes and voice can’t stay pretty when it’s time to express the detachment from yourself and your circumstances. The fast riff keeps the confrontation going, but keeping a hard stance to face the pain is a draining process. The ternary passage that follows shows that slow disintegration, which will lead you to a chamber oboe passage where the real frailty is exposed. A moment of doomy misery follows. The tempo picks up a bit, just like the process of getting back up slowly after a hard hit, and then the song goes back to the start, to shutting down and forcing yourself into amnesia. The forgetfulness can’t be permanent though, and the soft outro reminds you that pain remains.

2 – Jaded – A cyclical song with a slower tempo. Vocals start clean in technique but not in intent, followed by a dissonant oboe choral that will make you physically uncomfortable. The tempo picks up a bit. There are starts and stops, just like the process of building an insensitivity to feelings, and then the music goes back to the start, moody and changing, leading to a burst of craziness where the vocals and underlying music go in all directions. The song ends in resignation, the deadening of emotions is complete, with the voice dying down at the end.

3 – Dark Side – A soft English horn intro will make you believe that not all is entirely gloomy and hopeless. The contrasting fast and straightforward riff that follows and stays constant until the end will remind you otherwise. An in-your-face hardcore-style approach to vocals makes a harsh statement about those who worry about your well-being: why do they care? Honestly? Short and sweet, this one ends abruptly with a bang.

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1. Dan’s 1st show ever was playing in a black/death metal band at a fast-food restaurant. There were 4 people in attendance, Marie-Claude was amongst them.

2. Our recordings are done in our own rehearsal space with no regard to whether or not the equipment we use is considered trendy. Our recording laptop is terribly outdated, we use one of the cheapest guitars, in a tiny practice amp. Same thing for the bass. All with entry-level mikes.

3. More fun facts to come as the band evolves and starts playing live… (I guess)

Disorientation is a DIY Dark Symphonic Metal band from Montreal, Canada, created by Marie-Claude Fleury and Daniel Daris. While other symphonic acts portray beauty, wonder, and grace, Disorientation takes you down a path of troubling disarray, crippling misery, and severe anguish you can’t escape from.

The idea of the band had been floating around for a few years, with song fragments written here and there but it’s at the beginning of 2020 that Marie-Claude and Dan really got serious and started establishing the foundation of their unpolished sound driven by oboe orchestral passages and vocals that are harsh, vulnerable and everything in between.

Disorientation strives to combine the abrasiveness of old death/thrash metal with the orchestral elements introduced by European bands in the late 90s/early 00s to create depressive music with simple riffs that go for emotion rather than technique. The band avoids predetermined chord progressions, verse-chorus-verse-chorus structures, and clean/distorted vocal dichotomies to create disconcerting, dissonant, and memorable songs.

On September 26th, 2021, Disorientation released their first 3-track EP. In spite of minimal promotion, Disorientation’s unique sound and approach were noticed. Metal Trenches called it “a perfect band name and title for this self-titled EP” while Turkey’s Metalperver wrote that it was “Interesting music, worth checking out.” The songs got airplay on Dark Metal Radio, Sewer Spewer, The Autopsy Report, No Name Radio, and Mtl Métal.

“Survival Mode” is the band’s second EP due out in December 2023. Those 3 new songs feature even more of the elements that set them apart: unorthodox vocal lines, odd structures, dissonant oboe arrangements, in-your-face discomfort, and distress. With this offering, Marie-Claude and Daniel intend to keep their momentum. They are currently assembling a lineup with the goal of playing Disorientation’s music live.
