“Screeching for Vengeance” is a song that was written on a bender while the band was drinking Newfoundland Screech and is obviously an ode to Judas Priest’s song! ” comments bassist Cole Hume.
The band’s 2013 debut album “Something Fierce” was released on Spread The Metal Records and is available on iTunes and the band’s Big Cartel store here.

About:

Sanktuary kicked things off with two back-to-back EPs – 2009′s self-titled release and 2010′s Black Magic Brew – and soon followed that up with a massive move from Whitehorse, Yukon to Halifax, Nova Scotia. After touring the country following their epic relocation, Sanktuary released their third EP in 2011, Tundrastruck (a 3 way split with Black Moor and Metallian), which was followed by their signing to Spread the Metal Records for their debut full length ‘Something Fierce’. The band is currently back in Whitehorse, Yukon working on new material..

“It’s like a lightweight Havok or Evile” – Terrorizer Magazine

“On their debut full-length ‘Something Fierce’, Sanktuary deliver a furious half hour of exceptionally retro-infused metal. Although inspired by NWOBHM in much of its tonality, there’s a good dose of vintage speed metal injected in to the band’s ferocious delivery, with the result being something rather thrashy indeed. ‘Thrill Of The Kill’ is a great example of this, the band channelling an early Bay Area feel through both the unrelenting riffs and spit-drenched bite of the lyrics….when Sanktuary get it right, such as on the brilliantly eviler-than-thou heavy metal anthem ‘Midnite Mass’, they sound as suitably fierce as their album title implies.” – Powerplay Mag UK
“Canadians Sanktuary may have a dodgy moniker and album artwork featuring a clumsily-drawn skeletal beast-warrior, but once you get past that, there’s a lot to enjoy. Their sound is equal parts traditional metal and machine-gun thrash, all topped off with some high-flying, melodic vocals and peppered with spiralling solos. Take some early Testament, shades of Annihilator, throw in some classic Vicious Rumors, and a pinch of Lååz Rockit, give the resulting mixture a raw, electric production, and inject it with youthful energy and a certain naive charm…it is great fun and passes in a flash, leaving you ready for more.” – Zero Tolerance Mag

“Drawing on elements from traditional metal and early thrash-, speed-, and power metal, Sanktuary’s music is quite melodic and considerably easy to listen to and take in. There are plenty of all out rock ‘n’ metal guitar histrionic, and the mildly Geddy Lee-ish vocals actually fit nicely into the picture…Capturing the best of thrash as it was in its nascent era, Sanktuary’s “Something Fierce” should appeal to fans of thrash, speed, and traditional metal alike.” 4/5 – MetalMusicArchives

“‘Hailing from the farthest reaches of Canada, The Yukon, Sanktuary are a band hot on the heels of their contemporaries laying down a mix of classic metal, power metal (US) and thrash all in one debut album release that is presented in a very nice digipak format…This is a mix of great musical genres, delivering a real exuberant energy and clear passion, Sanktuary are certainly worth checking out.'” – Brutalism

“My first impression of Something Fierce was that this was the kind of album I would have saved my allowance for. It represents everything that is good and exciting about thrash and doesn’t sacrifice musical quality for ego or showmanship. It just thrashes, from beginning to end. The best tracks on this album are those that go for sheer speed—check out “Thrill of the Kill,” “Screeching for Vengeance,” and “Fire in the Sky”—for the way these guys dive in to the speed and energy, the thrill, of the music itself. These are good thrash songs, contributions to a beloved musical style, not karaoke-style imitations.” – SeofTranquility

“With a mature, up-tempo, retro sound they could be described as a blend of Iron Maiden and early Motley Crue. But despite the comparison, they are a unique group that is definitely worth a listen…This album holds a very consistent sound that displays Sanktuary’s clear and driven musical style. All 8 songs sound like they belong on vinyl, destined to spin in a 1970’s designed garage during a rowdy house party. Sanktuary reflects badass metal from a different era and is indeed something fierce.” 5/5 – Louder Than Hell

“I love listening to this album. It’s barely left my ears since I have gotten it.” – Metal Forces Magazine

“Something Fierce is packed with enough galloping rhythms to make an entire battalion of cavalry jealous. Shades of Metallica can be heard and they even have a track called “Screeching for Vengeance.” Complete with clean vocals, ripping solos, big choruses and gang shouts, this is an uncompromising homage to the golden age of heavy metal. It’s something I like to call “buddy metal.”. Grab some buddies and some beverages and fire up Something Fierce.” – Heavy Metal.About.com

“The eight-track, 29 minute EP is almost a bit too short but always leave them wanting more, which is just what the band did. The power-trio rips out the eight cuts of molten metal with a string sense of and velocity coursing through the veins of the album. Melding classic Metal and hints of thrash, Sanktuary finds a sweet spot with some excellent songs with good delivery bolstered by good gang vocals…If you need a touchstone reference, I van hear nice bits of other great Canadian bands like Cauldron, Skullfist and all those types of acts. SOMETHING FIERCE is an admirable, sure to catch a few ears and the band will be one to watch.” – Metal-Rules

“Looking for the unholy love child of Judas Priest & Metallica, as fronted by a singer who sounds half Geddy Lee/half Lee Dorrian? Look no further! “Something Fierce” is the fine collection of whiplash groove thrash that you seek. The solid debut by displaced Yukoners, Sanktuary, takes you on a shake-your-hips, raise-your-fist, wild thrashin’ retro power metal ride.”  – CKCU 931. FM (Ottawa) – E.v’s Underground

“Something Fierce is exactly what this album is, Sanktuary has recorded one of the best  Traditional Canadian Heavy Metal Album that I have listened to in a long ass time.” – KingstonMusicReviews

“Elderoth delivers a challenging sound that is catching the attention of metal aficionados, guitarists and professional musicians around the world for its pinnacle of musicianship, composition and technical ingenuity.” – Metal-Rules.com

“Elderoth are the brainchild of a certain Collin McGee, and his singular vision has produced a unique metal sound…a sublime release.” – Hellbound

“Strong prog-metal is usually reserved for DREAM THEATER and the countries of Europe. But this album has put the entire community on notice. Name recognition will only take you so far. This music is fresh, crisp and chocked full of melodies, and keeps one step ahead of you, making you long for more.” – Metal Temple

“Boasting a unique mix of metal music with oriental instruments, Elderoth stands out in the Quebec metal scene due to their overall difference to other acts from the area, and their new album Mystic shows that they might be one of the best in that scene.” – Audio Honesty

“Elderoth present a very uplifting album that feels absolutely genuine in its lyrical themes. Mystic takes full advantage of the Progressive Metal aspect of its sound to tackle other styles in a way that feels natural to the blend of Sonata Arctica and DragonForce-lite material that makes up the album, all the while exploring different atmospheres without any concern to whether it’s heavy enough or not. This commendable approach makes for a journey that leaves you actually feeling good about yourself by the end of this just under thirty-five minute self-released offering. If you’re into well composed music that doesn’t restrict itself to one specific sub-genre of Metal in a way that feels one hundred percent fluid from start to finish, Mystic is something you are going to want to check out right away.” – Apoch’s Metal Review

“After the first spin of Mystic, my immediate reaction was that this music, these arrangements, are quite dense. Mostly this comes from the riffage and orchestration. You could further define the compositions as being either, in the worst sense, busy and cluttered, or in the best sense, complex and intriguing. It’s a knotty conundrum. Eventually, I think it will come down to the each listener’s subjective experience…Call it ambitious and bombastic, Elderoth’s Mystic will definitely give you some music to ponder.” – Danger Dog Review

“To call Mystic, the new album from Canadian melodic metallers Elderoth, easy going and very likeable does not do any justice to the technical craft and skilled invention at work within the proposition, but that is exactly what it is, a highly enjoyable encounter very easy to get on with. The bands second full-length is also a collection of thoroughly captivating songs bred with tenacious imagination and as mentioned, technically impressive invention, a release sure to awaken a new and broader wave of attention on the Montreal based band.” – Ring Master Review

“Elderoth brings out an entire different Metal sound with their latest release Mystic. I can guarantee that you have never heard anything like this before in your Canadian Metal Music as Elderoth brings an oriental sound to songs. Right from the opening track “Within” Elderoth gives you’re a quick taste from what is to come for the most part.” – Kingston Music Reviews

Track By Track of ‘Mystic’ by Elderoth creator Collin McGee:

As a whole, the album is mostly about internal issues, and that in a sense can be mystical to anyone. But the musicality is leaning towards a mystical tone.

1. Within

This song has no lyrics but the musical meaning is like welcoming the listener to the album.

2. Black and Blue

This song is about following your dreams even if you are lying to yourself to achieve them.

3. This Shadow By My Side

This song is about being introverted but persevering in life regardless.

4. My Future

This song is about moving on and breaking up from a relationship.

5. Falling Star

This song is about remembering the person you used to be in the past

6. In A Dream

This song is generally about following your dreams to become more than who you are.

7. The Ocean

This song is about falling into depressing and being alone.

8. Far In The Sea

This song is about drug/cocaine addiction.

9. Always Remember

This song has no lyrics, but musically is about never forgetting the things that had happened to you in life.

About: The Body Politic’s EP ‘Egressor’ was released September 16th to follow up their 2011 debut album ‘All Too Human’.  Taking their name from a Clive Barker short story and shifting gears from jazz (which most of the members studied at Vancouver Island University) to progressive metal, the band combine poly-metric grooves, aggressive screams and soaring vocal melodies to push the boundaries of modern metal music with technically impressive musicianship. Their emotionally charged songs incorporate an element of playfulness that has lead THE BODY POLITIC to stand out in a vast metal crowd and to perform opening slots for Tesseract, Protest The Hero and Scale The Summit plus multiple Western Canadian tours with their evolution.

“The Body Politic share a similar desire to take their art in new directions. Opening track “Vitam Agere” is the perfect intro to the EP, short ,modern and original, and something that would work well in film soundtrack. Second track “Armature” shows the band to be technically adroit but not at the expense of song-writing. “All Hands” mixes precision with power, while “Swing For The Fences” shows The Body Politic are very much making music for the 21st century. “Colqhoun” has a raw power to match its melodies. Finishing with the fine “Irradiate,” it’s clear that The Body Politic are a band with the potential to cross over to a wide audience indeed.” – Hellbound

“Watch these prog-metal masters as they rip through “Armature,” a song off of the band’s forthcoming self-released EP, Egressor… If you’re into the likes of Periphery and Protest The Hero, this song will most certainly get your blood flowing. And in all the right directions, you dig?” – Gunshy Assassin

“As sonically savage as it is melodically radiant, Egressor provides one sizeable tempest of aggression, passion, and technical invention which thrusts Canadian progressive metallers The Body Politic into a whole new spotlight. The EP is a furious yet seductive storm which is as accomplished and gripping in its senses ravaging enterprise as it is in its rich croon of melodic and harmonic endeavour. The six track encounter provides a blistering fascination and unpredictable adventure which took a short while to reveal all its glories but emerged as another of the rigorously compelling events of the year….The release impresses in many aspects, the technical craft, explosive adventure to the songwriting, and the striking vocals of Sam Britton the most striking of these.” – Ring Master Review

“This collection of songs is well produced; the clarity and power exuding through the headphones is amazing given that this group are yet to be signed to a major label. A doff of the cap must be made to those who financed and produced this EP. It delivers the intricate collective guitar work expertly with the vocals front and centre. Vocal duties are split with Sam Britton offering the melodic and thoughtful response to the hoarse rasping of Jesse Janzen who also plays bass. Special effects and background sounds come through clearly adding atmosphere and tension where needed…The album provides nourishment for those fans who like to dissect a song’s technical elements as well as fans that enjoy the overall presentation. This is an expertly put together snapshot of the group’s capabilities and this reviewer certainly hopes that it will result in a bit of major label attention and well deserved support… I would be delighted to see this band deliver their brand of honest, raw and technically fantastic music live and think that audiences over here would be very open to their brand of passionate yet technically brilliant music.” – RocknReel Reviews

“The Body Politic combines staccato rhythms with catchy vocal melodies and blends them in a killer progressive metal package. “Egressor” their new six song EP is a short but extensive slice of modern metal…The production on “Egressor” is top notch and the musicianship…there is no denying that “Egressor” is a great album…Go get your grubby little hands on The Body Politic’s Egressor” – Extreme Metal Television

“their newest EP, Egressor, their heaviest effort yet while still keeping the originality and captivating melodies from before…gives a little something to all participating audiences whether it’s heaviness and groove or melodic brilliance. This is one that progressive metalcore fans can’t miss.” – We Love Metal

“technical brilliance. This is an EP of six cuts that slash twenty minutes long that brings together all the ingredients for modern and advanced metal.” – Noizz Webzine

“a terrific EP of six dramatic metal landscapes.” – Metal Nation Radio

“With its six songs, Egressor is organized like a short album rather than a promo EP. It starts with “Vitam Agere”, a keyboard-oriented instrumental intro, then switches gear on “Armature”, where vocals come in. One thing that immediately struck me is how much The Body Politic’s music breathes. It is apparent that the band knows how to gage the keyboard, bringing it in only when it adds something to the whole, while balancing technique with efficiency. The 7-strings attack stands out, as well as the mechanical math-grooves and the metronome-articulated songwriting. With its cold beauty, “All Hands” reminded me of Sybreed, aside from the clean vocals chorus. There are highlights for each instruments on this EP, for example drums have a particularly nice routine on “Swing for the Fences”. While The Body Politic sounds and plays exactly like a metalcore band (think about Bring Me the Horizon or Parkway Drive), there is a clear venture on progressive territories and a mix of influences, including Opeth (“Colquoun”) and Dream Theater (“Irradiate”).” – Metal Made In Canada
