Saudi Thrash Metal DUNE Unleashes Powerful Lyric Video For “Reject”

Debut EP “Years Of Chains” Out May 2024

Thrash metal aficionados, brace yourselves for the thunderous single, and lyric video “Reject” from Saudi Arabia’s DUNE, which comes from their debut EP “Years Of Chains”, slated for release on May 31st. Clocking in at 05:06, this track is a masterclass in aggressive thrash metal fused with djent, nu-metal, oriental, and groove influences. This EP has been a long time in the making and Dune shares a bit on the process behind the single:

“Reject was redone multiple times and the song structure had drastic multiple changes, the demo of the song sounded nothing like the final result as we kept removing and adding parts till we felt the song became tight and made sense. It is a groovy song with a dark story.”

DUNE originally formed in 2004 but went on hiatus for quite some time. After their resurrection in 2021 their music has been met with fervor, and “Reject” is a testament to the band’s unyielding commitment to pushing musical boundaries. With a synergy between aggressive vocals, relentless guitars, and powerful drums, “Reject” promises to be a highlight of the upcoming EP.

Prepare for a headbanging experience as DUNE unveils the lyric video “Reject” to the world. The “Years Of Chains” EP, promises a collection of songs that delve into aspects of Saudi culture, urban legends, and personal issues. It is recommended for fans of Slayer, Pantera, and Metallica.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “Reject” at https://youtu.be/0pOQjql7KdI

“Galloping thrash metal from Saudi Arabia, Refuge is taken from Dune’s first ever EP, Years Of Chains, which arrives next month. Incredibly, 2024 marks the twentieth anniversary of Dune’s formation, so whether you’ve been into them for a while or are new to their particular brand of noise, there’s no bad time to get on board. Refuge may be a little rough around the edges, but there’s no arguing with those riffs!”- Metal Hammer

Montreal, QC – May 16, 2024

THIRTEEN GOATS Tramples On With Video For “A Wolf In Shepherd’s Clothing” Off New Album “Capricorn Rising” Out July 2024

L-R: Thirteen Goats Current Lineup | Rob Fitz-Gerald (Lead & Rhythm Guitars, Backing Vocals) | Graham K. Miles (Lead Vocals, Lead & Rhythm Guitars) | Cody Lewichew (Bass, Gang Vocals) | Leonid Verman (Drums, Gang Vocals) – Photo Credit: Kevyn Lilith Hoskin

Hailing from Vancouver, Canada, the four-piece Thirteen Goats has, with their upcoming album “Capricorn Rising”, crafted a death metal rock opera that follows the journey of their mascot, Shepherd: a goat-skull wearing Antichrist leading an army of 12 demon goats to liberate the earth from humanity’s wars and greed. They introduce this album to the world with the first single, “A Wolf in Shepherd’s Clothing”, out now in music video format. The band comments:

“A Wolf in Shepherd’s Clothing wasn’t originally going to be a single, but as we were finishing it in the studio, we changed our minds. It felt like we were able to take a lot of the more aggressive elements of our sound and put them together in a surprisingly accessible way—it has these angry riffs and big, heavy grooves, but they’re anchored by a catchy chorus with a dynamic vocal hook.”

In the story that is being told on the record, this song is Shepherd’s recruitment anthem—he’s trying to convince the animals of Earth to join his army and finally stand up to humanity so he can get his revenge. But taken in a broader context, it’s also a song about how making someone feel like an outcast is the easiest way to strip away their humanity and radicalize them.

Watch and listen to “A Wolf In Shepherd’s Clothing” via its music video premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Digital Single – https://hypeddit.com/thirteengoats/awolfinshepherdsclothing

“Capricorn Rising” is not just an album—it’s a journey through madness, destruction, and the perils of letting anger consume you. Is it thrash? Death? Groove? Thirteen Goats don’t care, and neither should you. This Vancouver four-piece tramples all over subgenre conventions to create an alchemical style of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They are recommended for fans of System of a Down, Megadeth and Cannibal Corpse.

Due out on July 12, 2024, “Capricorn Rising” is available from Exitus Stratagem Records for album pre-order at https://www.exsrmusic.com/store/p/pre-sale-thirteen-goats-capricorn-rising

Track Listing:
1. Sign of the Goat (4:53)
2. Murder Lives in the Heart (5:30)
3. A Wolf in Shepherd’s Clothing (4:10)

5. Beheading Zoo (3:44)
6. Permission to Die (3:48)

What the press said about 2022 album “Servants of the Outer Dark”:

#14 on Top 20 – Loud – Canadain College Radio – August 2022 (Earshot)

“An alchemical style reminiscent of Cannibal Corpse, Misery Index, classic Megadeth, melodic Swe-death, and all eras of Death and Carcass.” – Decibel

“Rips, we’re here for it.” – MetalSucks

“Perfectly marries old school death metal, blackened tendencies, and heavy metal choruses.” – Metal Injection

“THIRTEEN GOATS unapologetically raise the deathcore flag for the new decade and absolutely don’t care what people think.” – Exclaim!

“Think Vulgar Display of Power-era Pantera in a cage match with Cannibal Corpse and Ministry.” – The Georgia Straight

“A gut-punching and head-hooking offering of death metal that borrows liberally from many of the genre’s subsets, as well as bringing in elements of thrash, black metal, and grindcore.” – No Clean Singing

“With a name like THIRTEEN GOATS, it’s gonna be evil. It’s cool, thrashy, blackened groove metal, a little like a Lamb of God sound with a bit more heavy brutality going on and a dash of black metal evilness. Great stuff!” – The Mosh Pit on WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“THIRTEEN GOATS make seriously good music and sound like they have a lot of fun doing it. They write great upbeat thrash songs with strong melodies that appropriately sway from sinister to camp and pull it off tremendously. For some classic charcuterie of extreme metal mixed with a bit of tongue in cheek, you’re well looked after here.” – Heavy Mag

“THIRTEEN GOATS is a new strength in the extreme scene.” – Metal Temple

“The starting point of Thirteen Goats and their debut album Servants Of The Outer Dark is death metal, but it doesn’t remain tied to it. They explore all types, including tech death and melodic death metal, and even genres outside of that like thrash, groove, and doom metal. Each song brings out a unique side to the band, whether it’s the politically charged ‘Prisoner’s Anthem’ or the body horror of ‘Sub-Being.’” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Canada’s THIRTEEN GOATS are incredibly fun to listen to and at multiple points subtly humorous—and, as such, make themselves easily a breath of fresh air within the technical scene. That sense of fun is backed up with very proficient playing and dizzying creativity, far beyond what you would expect from a debuting act’s first full length… Servants of the Outer Dark is an excellent debut full-length from these guys and I can’t wait to hear more!” [9/10] – Metal Observer

“All you need is love? No. All you need is THIRTEEN GOATS. Their debut album has everything your heart could desire in a Metal record, it’s a metaphorical pizza with all the toppings and a better thrill ride of a first crack we defy you to find!” [8.5/10] – Metal Noise

“These guys have the ability and the chops to succeed, whilst channeling bands like Lamb Of God into their output.” – Man of Much Metal

“This is so good.” – Stephen Quinn, The Early Edition (CBC Radio One)

0 Yellowknife’s GNARWHAL Get Ready For A Stoner Sludge “War / Nothing More” With Latest Single Off Upcoming EP “Altered States” Out May 2024

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 14, 2024

Yellowknife’s GNARWHAL Get Ready For A Stoner Sludge “War / Nothing More” With Latest Single Off Upcoming EP “Altered States” Out May 2024

From the far reaches of the Canadian North in the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife’s award-winning (Best New Single at the 2022 Music NWT Awards) Gnarwhal are bringing forth their doomy stoner sludge rock sound to the masses with their forthcoming EP “Altered States” due out on May 24th, 2024.

Unveiling singles “Tides” and the EP’s title tracks over the last few weeks, the quartet is getting ready with their latest peek at the release with “The War/Nothing More”, which is actually two songs that the band wrote at completely different times and thought they would work well stitched together.

Guitarist Benji Straker comments:

“I wrote The War shortly after we finished recording our first album. At that same time, I was writing music for my Hughes project EP so lyrically and thematically it fit right in line with that. Once I finished it, I actually released it as an acoustic solo version on the EP, Here I Am. The Nothing More demo was written shortly after and musically it was inspired by my classic post-hardcore/punk influences. I think Refused would be the main driver of the rhythm on this track.”

Vocalist Mark Kilbride adds:

“In Nothing More, I am fond of the lyric: “Shed your skin to make it”. This part relates to putting in the work day in and day out, wanting something so bad you are willing to do anything just to grasp it. Pushing your own boundaries, knowing you put the time and effort into your vision. “Whole again you can’t fake it”: Being authentic. To be whole this character has to believe in this process and be present in his delivery of the songs.”

Listen to “The War / Nothing More” at https://youtu.be/IOTBEVpGFlE

The band’s sophomore record, “Altered States” promises to deliver a diverse and introspective musical journey in which the band artfully navigates the realms of heavy alternative fuzz rock and progressive metal, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.

“We hope our progression as a band and as songwriters appeals to our fans and listeners. The Altered States EP is a bit darker and maybe heavier than our first one. Conceptually and thematically, the songs on the EP fit together better as a package and we hope this is conducive to a front-to-back experience for listeners.” says Srtaker.

Recommended for fans of Kyuss, Mastodon, and Elder, “Altered States” is due out on May 24, 2024, and available for pre-order at https://gnarwhalband.bandcamp.com

“Gnarwhal moves along at its own Fuzzed Out Stoner pace with its style of Hard Rock and slightly Doom tinged grooves. Taking cues from bands such as Mastodon, The Sword, Elder and King Buffalo, these guys walk a fine line between Classic and Modern day Stoner sensibilities especially with the Proggy Spaced out vibes. There’s a HEAVY METAL beast waiting to escape from the cleaner grooves that Gnarwhal plays and when it does escape from its cage, Gnarwhal becomes a more exciting creative unit.” – Outlaws of the Sun

““Tides,” a brutal, stormy track that meshes fuzzy, downtuned vibes with unrelenting proggy rhythms. Forlorn vocals that seem to prophesy the inevitable collapse of civilization, as illustrated by the single art.” – Doomed And Stoned

Montreal, QC – May 13, 2024

LAY OF THE AUTUMN Announces New Lead Vocalist

Streaming First Single / Video “Si Sta Come D’Autunno Sugli Alberi Le Foglie”

Rockshots Records is thrilled to announce the name of the lead singer for Lay Of The Autumn: Iryna “ERIA” Boyarkina!

Iryna is a renowned artist from Ukraine, recognized as “ERIA” and has gained fame through her performances with the band Mysterya and her appearances in popular contests like Eurovision, X-Factor, and The Voice. Davide Scuteri, the mastermind behind Lay Of The Autumn, shared his excitement about Iryna joining the band:

“I’m sure that fans of my previous projects, Ravenword and Choirs of Veritas, will appreciate the melancholic and epic tones of this new project. They’ll be astonished by the enchanting and powerful voice of Iryna.”

Lay Of The Autumn combines the talents of Davide Scuteri (Ravenword, Choirs of Veritas), Cesare Ferrari, Davide Lovecchio, and Michele Olmi (Chronosfear, Embrace Of Souls). The band’s debut album is highly anticipated, and with Iryna at the forefront, the symphonic metal scene is in for a treat. Keep an eye out for more updates and get ready for the band’s upcoming single featuring Iryna on vocals, set to be released at the end of 2024.

The band’s first single “Si Sta Come D’Autunno Sugli Alberi Le Foglie” underscores the full power of Lay Of The Autumn.

As described by mastermind Davide Scuteri “this is a hermetic title. During the First World War there was a poet into the battlefield, his name was Giuseppe Ungaretti and he wrote these lines in his poetry “Soldati (Soldiers)”, as perpetual symbol of the life in the trenches. It’s an instrumental powerful and virtusistic song, in the style of the Stratovarius, which talks about the conflicting emotions which can live inside us, and the precarious condition of the life when the Lay of the Autumn comes”.

Supermodel Taxidermy has been delivering unrelenting mosh pit madness since they made their debut in 2022 with the EP “A Whorer Story”. Denver-based power metal outfit Siege Perilous has once again ignited the flames of epic storytelling with their newest single “Sons of the Verdant”, which comes from their second EP “Creation’s Call” slated for an August 2024 release. Influenced by LARP, historical events, and fantasy literature, the single is sure to grab the attention of listeners across the metal spectrum. The band comments:

“This song has an interesting combination of dark and triumphant. The story is a fantasy version of a story we see repeated throughout history, that of native resistance to colonizing oppressors. One of the cool things about fantasy is the ability to take these universal themes and be able to apply them without having to point at one group of people and borrow their story, especially since there are so many instances of it from Antiquity to Modern Day.”

The band goes on to explain that this is probably one of their most musically complex songs, featuring longer and more varied instrumental sections, having vocals be almost more of a punchy accent than the driving force, hitting at the right times while really letting the amazing instrumentalists in the band rock out.

Set to enrapture audiences with its fantastical lyrics and thunderous guitar riffs, “Sons of the Verdant” invites listeners into realms of adventure and wonder. It is highly recommended for fantasy fans and those with an interest in Sabaton, Manowar, and Iron Maiden.

“With each song we undertook the interesting if not daunting task of trying to build a world and tell a story in 3-5 minutes.  We are hoping that each track successfully transports the listener to that place to experience the story first hand.  I’ve always found that the escapism of heavy metal and power metal was one of its best qualities and the ability to leave the world behind for a bit to enter the worlds of fantasy and heavy metal being something that got me through some really tough times in my youth, and that’s a huge motivator for me for creating this band and behind the way we try to craft the listener experience into our songs.” – Siege of Perilous

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that Creation’s Call is a blast. Siege Perilous has succeeded in creating what I would call Epic Power Metal for the Working Man. They don’t waste your time with overlong symphonic interludes between tracks, melodramatic narration, or overproduction that tests the limits of your sanity. The band gets right to the point and pulls you into their epic tales of heroic daring immediately. This is a nice breath of fresh air and if this EP is anything to go by, Siege Perilous has a great future ahead of them. Yes, this could be considered power metal but the no-nonsense approach and urgency to the songwriting makes this release absolutely worth checking out for those of us in the NWOTHM scene. Plus, it’s really just a lot of fun. This one is highly recommended. THENWOTHM SCORE: 9/10” – The NWOTHM

“‘Creation’s Call’ never gets boring, even on Heavy Rotation. Five gifted musicians have succeeded in creating a varied EP. The twin guitar solos are convincing the whole time. It’s just a shame that it ends after twenty-one minutes. It makes you wish for a full-length album. And, of course, a thrilling live performance. 9.3/10” – Metalheads Forever Magazine

“solid power metal style that should satiate any LARP-attendees or Dungeons and Dragons mavens. Keep an eye on this quintet – wield thy sword as they lead the battle charge for more quality power metal from the states. 8/10″ – Dead Rhetoric

“If you’re a fan of traditional power metal with a modern twist, Siege Perilous is a band you need to discover. Their self-released EP is a promising glimpse into what they’re capable of, and it’s clear that they have the potential to become major players in the genre. 8/10″ – My Global Mind

“Denver metal mob reckon that their goal on “Creation’s Call” was to build a world and tell a story in “three to five minutes.” It’s a world of fantasy, as “Oathsworn” proves, where metal rules and swords are held high. “Across The Rubicon,” however, is delivered with such skill that you can’t resist getting sucked in with them. Shaughnessy McDaniel has a brilliant “metal” voice, roaring on “Sons Of The Verdant,” and guitar duo Scott Hancock and Cody Martinez can knock out a NWOBHM riff like it’s 1982, as the title song underlines. “Brothers Of Five” brings the epic one last time, galloping in proper fashion, and it’ll be interesting to see how Siege Perilous develops. This is one hell of an opening statement, mind you. 8.5/10” – Maximum Volume Music

“Creation’s Call not only highlights Siege Perilous’ dedication to epic storytelling but also emphasises their versatility within the power metal genre. With influences ranging from historical events to high fantasy, this EP offers a rich and varied auditory experience that will captivate fans. Prepare to embark on a grand journey through myth and history as Siege Perilous delivers their latest saga.” – Amplify The Noise

“Creation’s Call it is a cohesive and well-crafted work, where the combination of rich letters in history and fantasy, with a meticulous musical execution, it makes mandatory, regardless of its short duration. [82%]” – Via Nocturna

“Creation’s Call doesn’t get boring even in heavy rotation. Five gifted musicians have created a varied EP. The solos of the twin guitars are convincing across the board. It’s just a shame that it’s over after twenty-one minutes. You want a full-length album. And of course a sweaty live performance. 9.4/10” – Keep On Rocking

“Colorfully mixed NWOTHM/Epic Heavy/Power Metal elixir that appeals to a broad range of fans between ALESTORM, BATTLEROAR, ETERNAL CHAMPION, GATEKEEPER, IRON MAIDEN, RUNNING WILD and WRATHBLADE. Awakens a huge appetite for a full long-play album. On this EP you can clearly see that the band has enormous potential and has already given a great taste of their skills. Conclusion: Strong-looking genretobak that falls out of the usual range! 8,5/10” – FFM-Rock

““Oathsworn,” hits the guns from the get go, slamming through the turnstiles of time and building the great beyond.” – The Median Man

“America’s Siege Perilous release new EP CREATION’S CALL – 5 slabs of hard and heavy metal with a twist of power metal.” – Loud Enough Magazine

““Oathsworn” simply explodes out of the gate. The band ratchets every possible dial up to 11 and charges into battle with an epic statement of intent.” – Nine Circles

““Brothers Of The Five” offers classic power metal as you would appreciate it. The strain on the neck muscles is correspondingly high and in some places the number cannot deny a slight Maiden stable smell.” – Hellfire Magazin

“This is traditional/power metal awesomeness. It gives off big Iron Maiden meets Hammerfall vibes, and I am all for it! Much like the previous EP, it had me hooked from the excellent opener, through the awesome ‘Creations Call’ and to the epic closer.” – Overtone Magazine

“if you dig keep it true, epic, and fast and heavy metal with fantasy and historical themes, you will enjoy Siege Perilous and their latest EP, Creation’s Call. Recommended.” – Dangerdog Music Reviews

“a thunderous gallop of heavy come power metal, immensely infectious with a sky high level of head bang ability.” – Frenzy Fire Metal & Rock Reviews

“[Betrayal of the Dracolich] was one of my favorite metal EPs of 2022” – Harry Cane Twisted Mind Radio

About The Album Artwork:

The cover for “Creation’s Call” shows Aeon, the time dragon, breathing life into the Universe. In Creation’s Call Aeon begins to communicate with the song’s protagonist, making him slowly go insane. It’s a fantastical version of the question “Would you go mad if you could actually directly speak with God?”

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

It’s all centered around Epic storytelling even if those stories are somewhat varied. We wanted the tones and moods to display range in both songwriting and playing while also conveying a cohesive sound and feel all centered around telling epic fantasy stories.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. Oathsworn – This song centers around a great riff with an epic phaser effect on it to convey the sense of being transported and whipped around through time.  It tells the story about a band of adventurers who when faced with a world-ending evil are flung back in time in order to have a chance to try and save the world.

2. Across the Rubicon – This song uses a marching cadence and heavy chorus hook to tell the story of the fall of the Roman Republic from the perspective of one of Caesar’s legionaries, telling the story of one of history’s most famous points of no-return.   One of the most unique features of this song is the final chorus which is written in Latin and checked by several scholars of Roman history.

3. Sons of the Verdant – This song has an interesting combination of dark and triumphant. The story is a fantasy version of a story we see repeated throughout history, that of native resistance to colonizing oppressors.  One of the cool things about fantasy is the ability to take these universal themes and be able to apply them without having to point at one group of people and borrow their story, especially since there are so many instances of it from Antiquity to Modern Day.  This is probably one of our most musically complex songs, featuring longer and more varied instrumental sections, having vocals be almost more of a punchy accent than the driving force, hitting at the right times while really letting the amazing instrumentalists in the band rock out.

4. Creation’s Call – This song is a darker high fantasy take on Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror ideas.  It’s a fantasy answer to the question “What would happen if you could speak directly to God?” The character slowly losing his mind.  So this is a rather dark song overall showing the protagonist’s descent into madness.

5. Brothers of the Five – This song is probably the most Power Metal song that we have ever done.  A massive, epic, and triumphant sound that shows the brighter side of the genre.  The song itself centers around a group of heroic knights that live their life by five tenets: honor, integrity, resilience, willpower, and command.

Story Angles – Fun Facts

  1. Shaughnessy is a high school history teacher with a Master’s Degree in history who used his knowledge of history and Latin to write the lyrics for Across the Rubicon.  Eric is going to start his first semester of teaching this fall as a math teacher if the teaching angle is of interest.
  2. Oathsworn comes from a Live-Action Roleplaying (LARP) storyline from the LARP that 4 out of the 5 band members play. Scott and Eric are the heads of the plot team and create fantasy stories for the group (sometimes 50-75 players in a weekend) to play out on a monthly basis.
  3. The band is about to make their first major festival appearance in August at the first Mile High Power Festival at the Oriental Theater in Denver (https://www.theorientaltheater.com/event/427460/Mile-High-Power-Fest), working alongside festival founder Soren Bray from Celestial Wizard to make this first festival a success and really bringing more awareness to the great Power Metal community that exists here in Colorado.
  4. The band loves to wear big fantasy costumes on-stage. The lead singer, Shaughnessy, even wears steel chainmail armor to help him feel like a fantasy warrior and each band member has a different kind of persona, roughly equating to a Dungeons and Dragons-style class. (Shaughnessy-Warrior, Eric-Bard, Mark-Druid, Scott-Wizard, Cody-Rogue)
  5. 3 of the members are coming from previously successful and well-known bands but that are outside the metal genre.  Mark Girard from horror punk band 13 Nails while Shaughnessy McDaniel and Eric Fischer were previously bandmates in the raunchy Celtic Folk Band, “The Stubby Shillelaghs”.

Prepare to be engulfed in a maelstrom of diabolical metal as Canada’s Thirteen Goats announces the release of their second album “Capricorn Rising” that comes out on July 12, 2024, via Exitus Stratagem Records. Combining ferocious riff-driven bangers with darkly humorous lyrics, Thirteen Goats delivers a unique blend of extreme metal that will intrigue metalheads around the world. They are teasing this new release with a clip of their upcoming lyric video for “A Wolf In Shepherd’s Clothing”. The band comments on the album:

“Thirteen Goats is back with even more furious riffage and even less respect for arbitrary subgenre boundaries. This time out, we swing for the fences with a “death metal rock opera” that tells the origin story of our mascot, Shepherd, while remaining true to the themes of our earlier work: humanity’s propensity for violence, the way power corrupts, and the urgent need for our species to find a better way together or ultimately face destruction.”

It’s been two years since the release of their debut “Servants of the Outer Dark”, and they’ve worked their asses off to bring everything fans loved about that record back with a vengeance – the frenzied fretwork, the humongous hooks, and the subtly humorous lyrics that mask much darker and more serious subjects. They’ve also worked hard to focus these elements into an offering that is more unified and consistent than anything they’ve done to date.

Is it thrash? Death? Groove? Thirteen Goats don’t care, and neither should you. This Vancouver four-piece tramples all over subgenre conventions to create an alchemical style of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They are recommended for fans of Carcass, Lamb of God, and System of a Down.
