About:

Conceived within the womb of Execration, Helleborus is the latest emanation of Jerred & Wyatt Houseman. Like the enigmatic and deadly winter flower from which the project takes its name, Helleborus pushes the exploration of traditional black metal into the uncharted territory of sensual duality and mysticism. Building on their professional experience with Execration and personal experiences through Akhenaten, the Houseman brothers sought a deeper expression of their experiential-driven musical style that audiences can connect with through a union of opposites.

“We’ve always had a vision for the type of black metal project Helleborus would be. We wanted to explore and deliver a darker and yet more romantic side of black metal. There is an unknown side of metal that is masculine and powerful, yet sensual and respectful; controlled chaos.” comments vocalist Wyatt Houseman.

Album Band Line Up features: Wyatt (vocals, lyrics) & Jerred Houseman (producer, all instruments)

Live Band Line Up features: Brent Boutte’ – Drums, Jerred Houseman – Guitar & leads, Wyatt Houseman – Voice, Ian Horenman – guitar & rhythms, Michael Hylands – Bass

Time and time again we hear from the older metal veterans that there are no younger bands that are ready to take over for them and that they don’t see enough great new bands. Well they haven’t been looking in the right places, like Canada, home to thrash metal giants Sanktuary. Holy shit this band knows how to fucking rock! From the opening killer riff of “Space Rock” to the head bashing “Corpse Blockade” and “Maximum Authority”, this album is 100% grade A metal. The nod to old school thrash shines all throughout the album.

It must be the Northern Lights. Or the cold and remote Yukon countryside. THIS is good old Thrash and Heavy Metal of the speedy kind spilling over the pond into Europe in all its putrid splendor…Sanktuary carelessly take Thrash Metal and then shamelessly transgress on Heavy Metal territory to pick up some elements, shake all of this well and spit it out. This is then spiced up with heavy riffing and soloing, leaving you with a heavily metallic aftertaste in your eardrums, whilst bobbing in their wake as they move on to the next track. Their no-nonsense approach to #metal is refreshing.

New Album ‘World of Make Believe’ Out March 4th

Edmonton, AB’s VAN HALST is a fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal.  A project, which began as a solo artist for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations. Their forthcoming 2016 album ‘World of Make Believe’ is set for release on March 4th and before its release VAN HALST want the world to hear the title track via premiere on Bravewords.com, which can be heard at the following link below:
Vocalist Kami Van Halst comments about the single:
“World of Make Believe speaks to our version of an ideal world. Instead of make believe being about fairy tales, it’s simply about equality. The song talks about wanting to live in a world where everyone is equal in all measures.”

More about Van Halst:
The band’s influences stay true to goth rock, Kami Van Halst demonstrates an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummeling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgemental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.
Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.
