Unleashing their debut album “A Tale of Fire” this past March, Moncton, New Brunswick’s Ominivide blend their favourite elements from progressive metal, technical death, and symphonic/power metal to present very heavy/dark riffs, along with very grandiose/more epic orchestral instruments, as well as lighter/cleaner sections with clean vocals.

Lyrically, the songs on “A Tale of Fire” are broadly about Omnivide trying to understand death, both as a tragedy and a natural part of life, the pain it brings, and the resilience that can be born from it. They use storytelling in some songs as a vehicle for this, and since they love fantasy media, the content of these stories has fantasy elements, while also weaving in deeper concepts of death, hardship, regret, and growth. Other songs revolve around historical figures, while others are mostly metaphorical, but all are linked together by this exploration of all aspects of death.

As the band is just beginning their Eastern Canadian Tour (dates listed below), the band is showcasing the shred with their latest guitar playthrough video for the album’s title track.

“This song was written by Nicolas and begins with a choir and orchestral intro that slowly builds into developing melodies in a manner similar to classical music. The intro makes the listener anticipate the arrival of the rest of the band, and when the full band does kick in, there is a sense that the song is going to metaphorically explode. There are a lot of old classical music techniques like counterpoint and dual melodies that make this song very tech-death until it slows down in the middle to make it more thrash sounding. The goal was to write more melodies with the keyboards and orchestral instruments to have the song be less guitar-oriented compared to the other songs on the album even though the guitar definitely has a lot going on. This song starts and ends with an orchestral arrangement only, almost like a storm passing by. Lyrically, this song is a metaphor for someone or something who has completely lost control of themselves, being completely overwhelmed by their emotions, like a fire destroying everything in its path.” adds the band.

“The compositions on the album are as tenacious and imposing as the angles in the band’s logo. Each song packs a list of surprises that are like colorful candy being fed to you just when you are beginning to get hungry. Obviously talented, the quartet never lets their talent outshine their songwriting, although the flashes they do show will leave you speechless. How is this band not signed to a major record label?” 9/10 – Metal-Temple

“The mix of styles in the material on “A Tale of Fire” speaks volumes to me. Debut albums are always a great stepping stone for bands, and I hope this landmark moment will spur them on. I am sure they have plenty of ideas in their locker and I look forward to hearing more from them. 9/10” – The Prog Space

“The vast swirling and shimmering sounds that open the new song (Csomic Convergence) quickly encompass the expanse and wonder of the cosmos, but the heavy punching throb of the bass and electrifying percussive acrobatics presage something different on the way — and the change arrives in a sudden flurry of rapidly darting notes, furiously hammering drums, and scalding snarls — which suddenly trade places with sky-high singing. It’s a head-spinning experience, with many moving parts that spin and shift with thrilling speed, eventually overlaid with keys that resemble a glorious heavenly choir whose tones contrast with the ravenous growls and manic instrumental intensity beneath them. Although the rhythm section continue to kick up a storm, the music seems to become even more magnificent and sweeping — until the intensity erupts in blistering blast-beats, unhinged screams, synths that sear, and a thoroughly mind-bending guitar solo at the finale. It’s the kind of closing spectacle that will put your heart in your throat.” – No Clean Singing

“Canadian quintet Omnivide started life as an Opeth tribute band before changing lanes and writing their own music. A Tale Of Fire is the band’s debut album, promising to deliver engaging progressive metal that fans of Alkaloid, Obscura, and, yes, Opeth will enjoy. There are a lot of styles and influences at play here, and Omnivide aim to keep the listener engaged throughout. The band succeeds wonderfully – and no, despite their history they do not come off merely as old Opeth imitators. The symphonic element present is tastefully done, the arrangements are all what one would expect from a more established band, and the performances are all outstanding. Overall, A Tale Of Fire is an excellent debut, and Omnivide are firmly on my radar going forward. In fact, if it wasn’t for Big Big Train this would have been our pick of the month. 4/5” – The Progress Report – Heavy Music Headquarters

“With “A Tale of Fire”, Omnivide have crafted a bold, layered and compelling debut album marking themselves as a worthy addition to the Heavy Metal ‘Omni’ bands/albums and to the thriving Death Metal scene in Canada. Through clever songwriting and outstanding musicianship (seriously, check out the band’s ‘Opulence’ playthrough), they combine elements familiar to the genre in an engrossing way that rewards repeat listens. It may still be early in the year, but OMNIVIDE have put forth a very strong entry for Tech/Prog Death in 2024.” – Mostly Metal

“I enjoyed A Tale of Fire, as it was lively, cerebral, and still intense to-boot with the wailing guitar leads, proggy synth section, and harsh death metal vocals. I think that people who enjoy melodic synth death metal will flip for this album. It’s got the harsher elements of Obscura and Black Daliah Murder with the musical eccentricities of Haken and Devin Townsend, something that makes for an enjoyable listen.” – Metal Epidemic

“Throughout A Tale of Fire, Omnivide showcases their musical diversity and storytelling prowess, providing one with a deeply satisfying and rewarding listening experience. From the highs of intense heaviness to the lows of emotional introspection, A Tale of Fire invites one to immerse themselves in its intricacies and complexities.” – Amplify The Noise

Known for his versatile guitar work and captivating vocals, Silva’s solo endeavour promises to captivate listeners with an arrangement of styles and influences. He comments on “The Chase”:

“There’s dance rock and 90s post-grunge vibes throughout this tune, with a catchy chorus and a Tom Morello-inspired guitar solo halfway through. This song is about navigating a relationship that’s about to break and trying your best to make it work despite everything working against you.”

“Come Down” is fueled by human experience, infused with the raw emotion and depth that have become synonymous with Silva’s music. Reminder – This Week – April 11-13 – Vancouver – HYPERSPACE METALFEST

w/ Týr, Flotsam and Jetsam, Skelator, Trollfest, Aether Realm, Iron Kingdom and more!

HMF 2024 Lineup Spotify Playlist – https://spoti.fi/44bNcLT

Canada’s premier melodic and power metal festival HYPERSPACE Metal Festival returns for its 5th edition after selling out its first two of three nights during its 2023 event. Their forthcoming 2024 lineup is their most epic to date to be hosted from April 11th to 13th in Vancouver, BC at Rickshaw Theatre. The lineup features headliners Týr, Flotsam and Jetsam, and Skeletor along with Trollfest, The Dread Crew of Oddwood, Aether Realm, Iron Kingdom, and more performing over the three nights.

Festival organizer Joey Hockin of Journeyman Productions adds:

“Here we go with another Hyperspace Metal Festival, and this is the biggest one yet! I feel like this is a dream lineup for us, one that we’ve been working towards since the inception of the festival! Unfortunately, Transgressive has had to drop out of the lineup. We hope to have them in 2025! We couldn’t have come nearly this far without the incredible support we’ve received from the power metal community. So, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN! See you in April!”

Hailing from the Faroe Islands, Týr has been performing Viking and folk metal since first forming in 1998. The band will be supporting their upcoming 2024 album “Battle Ballads” being released by Metal Balde Records. The album follows their 2022 live record “A Night at the Nordic House” and their eighth full-length “Hel” (2019). Music Video – “Ragnars Kvæði” – https://youtu.be/Us-NTwC3vOM

Legends in their own right, Phoenix, AZ’s Flotsam and Jetsam have been rumbling thrash around the world since their beginnings in the early 80s’ touring alongside every heavyweight known in metal. They have released fourteen studio albums in their career, with the latest being 2021’s Blood in the Water (AFM Records). No filler, all killer, “Blood in the Water” is once again mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (U.D.O., Volbeat, Amaranthe, Powerwolf) and sees Flotsam and Jetsam exploding with creativity, moving forward but nodding to their past. Watch their music video “Brace For Impact” – https://youtu.be/BSG9CLAH5Wc

Seattle, WA’s Skelator are all speed and no need for posers with their epic heavy and thrash metal spirit conquering fans for 20 years. Over the span of their career, they have shared with fans six full-lengths and two EPs, their latest “Blood Empire” was released in 2022 from Gates of Hell Records. Music Video – “Good Day To Die” – https://youtu.be/flltOMjU80Y

From Oslo, Norway, pioneers of true Norwegian Balkan Metal, Trollfest are all fun, with titles such as “All Drinks On Me”, “Piña Colada” “Twenty Mile and Hour” and “Flamingo Libre” among many many more from their 10 album discography. Their latest ‘Flamingo Overlord’ (Napalm Records) was released in 2022. The band makes sure their tracks have the highest possible singalong factor and are guaranteed to make you stomp your feet and sing yourself hoarse while sharing the best of times with your finest friends. Music Video – “All Drinks On Me ft. Jonne Järvelä from Korpiklaani” – https://youtu.be/S4bV4RDgkSI

The Dread Crew of Oddwood is an acoustic pirate band from San Diego, CA. They play a combination of folk music, heavy metal, and traditional Celtic music. The band performs using only traditional and acoustic instruments, including the accordion, mandolin, tin whistle, bouzouki, toy piano, and stand-up bass. They have unleashed four self-released albums, their latest being “Lawful Evil” (2016). Lyric Video – Raise Your Pints – https://youtu.be/P_ZEl3zT6qA

Hailing from Greenville, North Carolina’s Æther Realm is set to unleash their blend of melodic death metal and folk metal, with lyrical themes of fantasy and mythology. They are joined by festival alumni local Vancouver heavy metal warriors Iron Kingdom, who have been touring hard for their new and fifth album “The Blood Of Creation” (Music Video – Queen of The Crystal Throne – https://youtu.be/YyhEutgL9gI). The Metal Temple has described them as “A distinctively distinguished experience in Heavy Metal… an injection in infectiously venomous momentum most definitely deserves interest – do check it out.” Making their first appearance at HMF will be Borealis, a power/progressive metal band from Orangeville, Ontario. Their latest album “Illusions” has gotten praise from across the metal community, My Global Mind has stated “Borealis have proven themselves to be one of the most consistent bands when it comes to producing excellent dark power/prog metal, and this album is no exception, standing as possibly their best work to date. Longtime fans should be very pleased with this album, and newcomers are highly recommended to start with this album.” Other bands joining the lineup will be Odinfist (Okanagan, BC), Naitaka (Kelowna, BC), and Calgary’s Osyron, Syryn and Balrogath.

Born on a quiet street named Ivy Gardens Crescent, Ivy Gardens emerged from humble beginnings with an unwavering passion for creating music that resonates with raw energy and volume. Originally formed under a different name, the band, hailing from Niagara, Ontario, Canada, underwent a transformative journey. In 2020, fueled by their collective experiences as young musicians, Ivy Gardens took root and blossomed into a force to be reckoned with. With an EP already under their belts, they are gearing up to release their new album “Goon” on April 19. Ahead of this release, they are premiering the title track, which they comment on:

“Goon is a song that was written with the intention of being both rhythmically intricate, but ultimately danceable. Where the verses are filled with screaming lyrics from the point of view of a struggling addict, the chorus takes a more melodic approach, as the person in question experiences the ecstasy that comes with getting their fix. This song is filled with sonic surprises, and we hope it serves as a sweet release for all those “goons” out there.”

To support this album, Ivy Gardens will be embarking on a tour through Eastern Canada (dates listed below) and each stop promises to be a rip-roaring good time. One of their gigs is typically 30 to 40 unbroken minutes of high-energy, heavy-hitting music at a crushing volume. Beaten-to-hell drums, throbbing bass synth, searing organ, and a liquid wall of guitar sludge. One song flows immediately into the next.

Ivy Gardens wastes no time, gets the audience involved, and provides an immersive, belligerent, good time full of sweat, sludge, and grunge. They are recommended for fans of Truckfighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Nirvana.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Goon” via its premiere on Outlaws of The Sun HERE.

“Goon” is out April 19th, 2024, and available for album pre-order at https://ivygardens.bandcamp.com.

“…the sonic equivalent of a panic attack.” – Canadian Beats

““Boner” has got a really cool groove, too, showing you what can happen when you’ve got a band that is truly possessed by the power of The Riff. It’s one of those grinding, motoriffic jobs in the spirit of Kyuss’ “Green Machine.” And it doesn’t take long before we, too, are caught under its sway. The retro organ sound from the keys provides a spooky touch to the chorus, which comes like a sigh of relief after the tense build-up of those guitar-driven verses. The drumming is swarmy and frenetic, and strikes with power at pivotal moments. The breakdown at 4 minutes is a headbanging oasis, made even cooler with the synthesizer’s late-’60s garage twist.” – Doomed and Stoned

“This Canadian trio are promising us a debut album that is “a relentless onslaught of vulgar, belligerent punk, sludge and sweat” when it is released in April. If this lead single is anything to go by, things are going to get very belligerent and sweaty when the full-lengther finally hits our death decks.” – Uber Rock

0 Rockshots Records – DENDERA Unveil Music Video For Title Track “Mask Of Lies” Off Forthcoming Album Out June 2024

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 5, 2024

DENDERA Unveil Music Video For Title Track “Mask Of Lies” Off Forthcoming Album Out June 2024

Signing to Rockhots Records for their forthcoming album “Mask of Lies” out this June 2024, the UK’s Dendera has been on a steady rise while playing sell-out shows and festivals across Europe and in their home country along with supporting bands such as Sepultura, Queensrÿche, Saxon, Death Angel, Gloryhammer, Skindred, Rhapsody of Fire and many more.

Expertly delivering modern melodic metal, Dendera’s combination of towering clean vocals and powerful screams along with unfaltering musicianship, energetic performances, and stunning choruses has rightfully earned them a reputation as a formidable band. Their steadfast handcrafted approach means they operate almost entirely self-sufficiently. This gives the band the ultimate edge when trying to hone their sound meaning they can push the best from themselves and always deliver professional results.

Following tough times after the COVID-19 pandemic and personal tragedy from within the band, Dendera has fought against the odds to record a stunning third full-length album. Co-produced by themselves and mixed by Alessio Garavello plus featuring a guest solo from Russ Parrish (aka. Satchel – Steel Panther), this album showcases Dendera‘s relentless vision to move forward, using the traumas of the past to write a powerful record that explores personal themes, grittier undertones that showcases their signature strong vocals and multi-layered songwriting approach.

“This album has been far too long coming from us, and we cannot wait to get it out. We really want our fans to hear how much we have grown and give them a treat. The time we have taken to do this has all been to make sure we get it right, and we think the end product reflects that.” adds the band.

To give the first glimpse of the album’s sound, Dendera is sharing the music video for the title track “Maske of Lies”. Starting with double kicks, a crushing riff, and a hard-picked guitar melody, the song takes no time getting to the point. From the intro, screams unleash a four-to-the-floor verse with a huge, aggressive vocal line from frontman Ash.

The band comments on the single:

“This is a song about rising up against oppression that will resonate with many people in the modern world, Mask Of Lies brings an unstoppable chorus with call and response clean and scream vocals. A chorus that is sure to impress live. A heavy and modern breakdown section cements Dendera’s musical shift into a more modern sound before getting to the last chorus with an inspiring and goosebump-raising orchestral break that will have the listener wanting to go back and listen again.”

“The release is a must for all classic and heavy metal fans, but such is the new adventure and variety the band has woven into their songwriting and sound, there is much for all metallers’ including, us among them, those without an instinctive taste for old school roars. In fact, it very likely will, as here, emerge as a favourite of the year for fans and newcomers alike.” – Ringmaster Reviews

“Pillars Of Creation” is an excellent album and a strong follow-up to “The Killing Floor”. It is an album that urges you to hit repeat after every listen. With this album DENDERA have been successful in further developing their own sound and identity, and are improving with each release. The band already have an ever-growing fan base. With this release and their continuous bouts of touring, hopefully this will propel them further ahead of their peers within the Heavy Metal scene.” – Metal Gods TV

0 Gore House Prod. – Gritty Primitive Death Metal Takes A Gory Turn In CHUNKED’s “Inhaling The Infestation” Lyric Video + New EP “Inhaling the Infestation” (CD/ Cassette Out May 2024)

Montreal, QC – April 4, 2024

Gritty Primitive Death Metal Takes A Gory Turn In CHUNKED’s “Inhaling The Infestation” Lyric Video

New EP “Inhaling the Infestation” (Digital + CD/Cassette Out May 2024) From Gore House Productions

L-R: Arian Mauk (Vocals), Cole Taylor (Drums), James Stone (Bass), Dustin Mauk (Guitar)

Heavy and simple is one way to describe Chunked’s specific blend of death metal, it is also raw, violent, and full of skin-crawling themes. They have already released their debut album “Inhaling the Infestation” digitally and will have a physical release (CD/Cassette) coming May 3, 2024, from Gore House Productions. Right now they are releasing the lyric video for the title track, which they describe;

“Inhaling the Infestation” is a power ballad about a swarm of insects slowly taking over a human body, very painfully and meticulously. It is a well-structured and catchy track that will make your knuckles sink towards the ground and start grinding across the floor.”

Band leader and founder Arian Mauk promises a grimy experience that will compel fans to drag their knuckles on the ground, reverting to a Neanderthal-like state of de-evolution. The singles, he assures, will induce the same raw, primitive energy.

Mauk’s approach to songwriting involves an initial structural idea, hooks, moments, and tempo considerations, all channeled through the raw energy of the first four frets. With the band now performing live with a full lineup, the material has evolved to encompass the intensity of their stage presence.

The violence and brutality in tracks such as “Liquid Cranial Detonation”, “Submerged in Rotten Sewage” and “Pulsing Excrement” are sure to delight death metal fans around the world especially those who enjoy Sanguisugabogg, Torsofuck and Bodybox.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “Inhaling the Infestation” via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

0 Iceland’s DRUNGI Unveils Crushing Dark Rock Debut Album “Hamfarir Hugans”

With two powerful singles “Alda” and “Myrkur” already released, Iceland’s Drungi is set to unleash their debut album “Hamfarir Hugans”. Drungi‘s commitment to exploring mental health struggles through their music is evident throughout the eight-track album, which presents bleak topics with haunting music that is inspired by the dramatic landscape of the island. The band hopes that fans will consider this release worth the wait, and find it deeply satisfying. It is a ride filled with Icelandic lyrics, heaviness, and nature-inspired lyrical content. With the album they are planning a local tour and comment on what to expect:

“We put on a show, the majority of the band, including drummer, bassist, vocalist and guitarist have a background in theatrics and we bring those talents into our shows giving our audience an immersive show where they get pulled into the band. Be it the bassist walking around the venue or the singer pulling the audience closer, the people will find a great show with Drungi.”

With “Hamfarir Hugans”, Drungi wanted to create an album that speaks to the heart of those grappling with mental health challenges. Their music reflects the harsh beauty of Icelandic nature, intertwined with the raw, emotional realities many face daily. Throughout each of the exclusively Icelandic language tracks has been poetically inspired by folklore, Icelandic nature, and the mental sufferings that so many of today’s people suffer from suicidal thoughts, depression, anger, schizophrenia, etc.

The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Stephen Lockhart and the album artwork, a merger between the mind and Icelandic nature, was done by bassist Magnús Addi Ólafsson and guitarist Rúnar Gauti Gunnarsson. Self-reflection and powerful music await in “Hamfarir Hugans”, which is recommended for fans of Black Sabbath, Gojira, and Manowar.

“Hamfarir Hugans” is due out on April 5, 2024, and is available for pre-order at https://drungi.bandcamp.com.
