Yellowknife’s GNARWHAL Look Inwards With Provocative Title Track From Upcoming EP “Altered States” Out May 2024

Gnarwhal, the genre-bending rock phenomenon hailing from the remote northern Canadian city of Yellowknife, continues to captivate audiences with the release of their latest single, the title track from their upcoming album “Altered States”. The single is out now and the remainder of the fuzzy, doomy album is being released on May 24, 2024. The emotionally charged track offers a profound exploration of resilience and memory, weaving together intricate melodies and haunting lyrics that resonate with listeners on a deep and personal level. The band comments on the creation of the track:

“Altered States is interesting because when we went into the studio we hadn’t even fleshed the song out and it wasn’t near complete. Mark hadn’t finalized the vocal melody or lyrics and structurally the song wasn’t making a lot of sense. We were actually a bit tentative about including this in our studio time and having it on the EP. It was the last song we tracked. Once Layne laid down the drum tracks and we started working on bass and guitar, we knew we were onto something a bit different and cool.”

“Altered States” delves into themes of personal transformation and the enduring power of memory. The track serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of embracing our past experiences, even as we navigate the uncertainties of the present. The upcoming EP promises to deliver a diverse and introspective musical journey in which the band artfully navigates the realms of heavy alternative fuzz rock and progressive metal, creating a sound that is uniquely their own.

Powerful and personal, the single “Altered States” invites the listener to look inward. It is recommended for fans of Kyuss, Mastodon, and Elder.

Listen to the lyric video for the EP’s title track “Altered States” via its premiere on Outlaws of The Sun HERE.

“Altered States” is due out on May 24, 2024, and available for pre-order at https://gnarwhalband.bandcamp.com

“Gnarwhal moves along at its own Fuzzed Out Stoner pace with its style of Hard Rock and slightly Doom tinged grooves. Taking cues from bands such as Mastodon, The Sword, Elder and King Buffalo, these guys walk a fine line between Classic and Modern day Stoner sensibilities especially with the Proggy Spaced out vibes. There’s a HEAVY METAL beast waiting to escape from the cleaner grooves that Gnarwhal plays and when it does escape from its cage, Gnarwhal becomes a more exciting creative unit.” – Outlaws of the Sun

““Tides,” a brutal, stormy track that meshes fuzzy, downtuned vibes with unrelenting proggy rhythms. Forlorn vocals that seem to prophesy the inevitable collapse of civilization, as illustrated by the single art.” – Doomed And Stoned

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 17, 2024

Rockshots Records Signs LAY OF THE AUTUMN + Streaming First Single / Video “Si Sta Come D’Autunno Sugli Alberi Le Foglie”

Rockshots Records is thrilled to announce the birth of LAY OF THE AUTUMN, a new band emerging from the creative vision of the talented Davide Scuteri.

Born from the desire to continue the musical legacy of projects like RAVENWORD and CHOIR OF VERITAS, LAY OF THE AUTUMN promises to make its mark in the symphonic metal scene.

Spearheaded by Davide Scuteri and joined by Cesare Ferrari (Bass), Davide Lovecchio (Guitars), and Michele Olmi (Drums), LAY OF THE AUTUMN embodies the essence of classic symphonic metal with a female vocalist, continuing the rich tradition established by Ravenword, following the release of their album ‘Transcendence’.

Just as a continuation of the Ravenword project, Lay Of The Autumn is a band born from the synergy between Davide Scuteri and Rockshots Records, who continue their collaboration together for an album set to see the light at the end of 2024.

The band’s first single “Si Sta Come D’Autunno Sugli Alberi Le Foglie” underscores the full power of Lay Of The Autumn.

As described by mastermind Davide Scuteri “This is a hermetic title. During the First World War, there was a poet on the battlefield, his name was Giuseppe Ungaretti and he wrote these lines in his poetry “Soldati (Soldiers)”, as a perpetual symbol of life in the trenches.
It’s an instrumental powerful and virtusistic song, in the style of the Stratovarius, which talks about the conflicting emotions which can live inside us, and the precarious condition of life when the Lay of the Autumn comes”.

Lose Yourself In Societal Noise In NOTSM’s Music Video For “Humans”

Debut Album “Only Death Brings Silence” Out May 2024

On man project NOTSM continues to build anticipation for their debut album “Only Death Brings Silence”, slated for a May 3rd release, with the unveiling of the second single, “Humans”. Accompanied by an AI-generated video, the track offers listeners a glimpse into the band’s exploration of the human experience. With thought-provoking lyrics and dynamic instrumentation, “Humans” delves into the complexities of human nature, inviting listeners to contemplate their place in the world. Matt Barkley comments on the single:

““Humans” is a relentless barrage of heavy metal fury, confronting the harsh realities of human existence and our destructive impact on the world around us. With blistering riffs and pounding rhythms, the song pulls no punches in its indictment of human nature. The lyrics paint a bleak picture of our tendency to exploit and destroy, questioning how we arrived at this point of environmental and moral decay. As the song progresses, it becomes a scathing commentary on our insatiable appetite for consumption and our failure to confront the consequences of our actions.”

According to Barkley, “Humans” is fast-paced and is more or less based on the same musical motif throughout its entirety. He is not a big fan of guitar solos, but decided to do something different and thought a solo would fit nicely in the middle of this song. Written with a live setting in mind it is meant to pump up the crowd before the last verse comes in with a bang.

As symbolized in the blurry cover art, NOTSM channels the sense of being unrecognizable and adrift in the sea of societal noise. They are recommended for fans of Rivers of Nihil, Sylosis, and Nightrage.

“Only Death Brings Silence” is due out on May 3, 2024, and available for pre-order at https://notsm.bandcamp.com.

0 Italy’s TYTUS Unleashes NWOTHM Fury with Re-Release of Album “Rises” + EU Tour Dates w/ Canada’s THUNDEROR

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 17, 2024

Italy’s TYTUS Unleashes NWOTHM Fury with Re-Release of Album “Rises” + EU Tour Dates w/ Canada’s THUNDEROR

Italy’s Tytus, the powerhouse heavy metal quartet hailing from the depths of the European underground scene, is set to reignite the flames of metal with the re-release of their album “Rises” on April 22nd on Kornalcielo Records. Originally released in October 2016, “Rises” garnered widespread acclaim for its electrifying blend of classic metal influences and modern ferocity. Now, Tytus is geared up to take the metal world by storm, starting with an EU tour with Thunderor in May (dates listed below). The band shares their excitement:

“Our aim is to take the listener through a journey from the first to the last track, without letting him go until the end. For this reason, we like to use drones and different special sounds to link songs together, trying to create the perfect atmosphere to introduce each one of them.”

Tytus started out quite clearly as an NWOBHM band, but they quickly added different flavours to it: some thrash, some speed, a bit of psychedelic, and a lot of rock and roll. Not ones to copycat, they try to coherently add all of their music influences and experiences into their black cauldron, in order to give their potions a distinctively and unique taste.

The band adds that a heavy metal live show is all about energy and attitude, and there are plenty of both. When they play live, they do it like there won’t be a day after like it is going to be the ultimate experience for everybody, and people can feel it. They connect, it ignites an emotional mutual feedback, and… Boom! While rising from the mud of 80’s hard rock, the four-headed monster stomps its big feet in the swamps of stoner rock with the urgency of punk rock. Tytus can be seen live on the following dates and is highly recommended for fans of Night Demon, Enforcer, and Skull Fist.

The re-release date for “Rises” is April 22, 2024 on Kornalcielo Records and will be available at the following links:

0 Canada’s EXSOMNIS Release New Gloomy, Progressive Gothic Metal Single “Inertia”

  • April 16, 2024
  • by Asher
  • · Exsomnis · Music News

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 16, 2024

Canada’s EXSOMNIS Release New Gloomy, Progressive Gothic Metal Single “Inertia”

L-R – Ehren Hill – Bass, Jeff DeMarco – Guitars, Viky Boyer – Vocals, Jon Mohr – Keys / Orchestrations, Rithiya Kiev – Drums

Exsomnis is an atmospheric and melodic powerhouse in progressive gothic metal, hailing from Montreal, Canada and they are proud to announce the release of their debut single, “Inertia”. This haunting track delves deep into the abyss of existential contemplation, enveloping listeners in a symphony of gloomy soundscapes, haunting riffs, and orchestral grandeur. Vocalist Viky Boyer comments on the track:

“Inertia is one of the earliest songs we wrote and one of the songs I spent the most time writing and re-writing. With every scrap of lyrics and melody, I felt like I was getting closer to the message I actually wanted to put out. I am also very glad that the band was on board with me including some French spoken words in the song, sort of like a mini poem, as I feel like it really completes the vision I had for it. I really hope my experience with the theme of the song will resonate with the listeners, partly for my artistic ego, but also as a sign that I am not alone struggling with those particular feelings of dread when it comes to life choices.”

Formed in 2020 by Boyer and multi-instrumentalist Jeff DeMarco, Exsomnis has evolved from a mere, doom-oriented studio project into a melodic, orchestral metal ensemble. Joined by composer Jon Mohr, drummer Rithiya Kiev, and bassist Ehren Hill, the band’s collective talent and creative synergy have garnered widespread acclaim within the metal community.

Exsomnis hints that they are currently working on their debut album, which should come out by the end of Winter 2024 or spring 2025. In advance of that, they plan on releasing a few more singles before setting a launch date. Fans of Katatonia, Nevermore, and Amorphis should especially take note of “Inertia” and keep their eyes on Exsomnis.
