Fredericton, New Brunswick five piece progressive metal band TACTUS will be unleashing debut full length ‘Bending Light’ on October 7th. The album features ten outer limit prog tracks produced by the band with mixing and mastering by Jamie King (Between The Buried In Me, Paradise Lost, Scale The Summit) to follow their previously released EPs ‘ins(T)rumental’ (2015) and ‘T’ (2014) plus singles ‘Enigma’ and their metal cover of The Police’s ‘Roxanne’.

The band has teamed up with Progressive Music Planet for the premiere of their behemoth of a second single ‘Goliath’.

Check it out! at the following link: https://progressivemusicplanet.com/2016/09/23/canadian-prog-metallers-tactus-premiere-second-track-from-bending-light/

The band comments on the track:

“Goliath is one of the longest song’s we’ve ever written, and it actually went through the most iterations and re-writes of any song on the album. We think it captures some of the more progressive spirit of Bending Light, and is a great reflection of the directions in which we want to push our music in the future. We were beyond honoured to have incredible guitarist and our good friend Didier Archambault of Cardinals Pride put the cherry on top with the first guitar solo on the track.”

The album is available for pre-order at the following links.

Formed in 2011 as a jam project by three fellow music students, the group has gone on to release several singles and EPs independently, while having the opportunity to share the stage with great metal acts like Protest the Hero, Intervals, Black Crown Initiate, and Mandroid Echostar. The group pride themselves on their infusion of multiple musical styles into hard-hitting riffs, epic choruses, and technically intense passages. Soaring melodies, guttural growls, and destructive breakdowns flow into soft, slow, and pensive segments of jazz and rock. Their compositional method, where songs are conceived, written, transcribed, and edited before they are ever learned or rehearsed, adds a level of refinement and fluidity not always found in heavier music. The band do almost all of their engineering work themselves, but have also worked with several talented producers. Their first EP T (June 2014), comprised of four previously released singles and one new song, featured the mixing and mastering handiwork of Gino Bambino (Novallo) and Justin Hill (SikTh). Their single Resurface (December 2014) was handled by George Lever (Burials).

Out Now! ALMAH Unleash New Album ‘E.V.O’ In North America via Test Your Metal Records

Brazilian metallers ALMAH led by ex-Angra singer Edu Falaschi are proud to unleash their new album entitled ‘E.V.O’ out now as of September 23rd and available in North America (US/MX/CA) via Test Your Metal Records at the following link: http://www.testyourmetalrecords.bigcartel.com/product/almah-e-v-o-pre-order. ‘E.V.O’ is also available through Pride & Joy Music (EU) and King Records (Japan).

‘E.V.O’ is the 5th studio album from ALMAH and was recorded in São Paulo, Brazil at IMF studios by Tito Falaschi plus mixed and mastered by Damien Rainaud (Fear Factory, Dragonforce, Baby Metal, etc) at Mix Unlimited in Los Angeles, California. The release is a concept album based on the evolution of people’s mind and soul during the so-called AGE OF AQUARIUS – the new era that the world is about to live. The author of the concept, Edu Falaschi, touches different subjects connected to the main idea, creating very positive lyrics for the album’s atmosphere.

Musically ‘E.V.O’ brings a fresh and powerful sound with the typical modern and heavy ALMAH touch, but this time one will be able to realize that it also has a direct connection with the Angra’s “Rebirth” (the first Angra album with Edu Falaschi’s voice). The compositions are a pleasant travel between contemporary rock, modern power and prog metal. The vocal lines on ‘E.V.O’ are very powerful, classic and the vocals have a higher pitch compared to previous ALMAH’s records. It’s very melodic, clean and into the bel canto style.

The band’s single ‘Age of Aquarius’ can be heard at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXHrA6ro0HY

1 – Age of Aquarius (7:13)

Calgary thrashers ILLYRIAN have teamed up with Metal Nation Radio for the premiere of their second single and lyric video ‘Zeta Reticulan’ in support of their upcoming album ‘Round 2: Fight!’ due out on October 7th. The album was co-produced by the band with Casey Lewis at Echo Base Studios plus mastered by Sacha Laskow (Every Hour Kills, ex-Divinity) at Perfect Fifth Studios.

calgary thrashers illyrian premiere new lyric video 'zeta reticulan' via metal nation radio - metal nation news

Formed in 2011 under the name Hellborn Death Engines, the band is resurfacing under the new moniker ILLYRIAN with the recent additions of bassist / vocalist Jeff Perry (Sikarra, ex-Animus Labyrinth) plus British drum sensation Darren May (ex-Deacon Birch) who have brought new and progressive musical mindsets into the band to join original and founding members Scott Onofrychuk (guitars/vocals) and Brandon McNeil (guitar/vocals).

Evolving into a highly technical group playing thrash metal with their erratic and precise on-stage delivery, rapier wit, along with nostalgic charm, ILLYRIAN have removed the constraints of conventional metal sub-genre formula to replace their sound with a melting pot of technical thrash riffs, blistering solos, prog-influenced rhythms along with the band’s signature tri-vocal attack.

0 Wonderbox Metal – Fractal Cypher – The Human Paradox

  • September 22, 2016
  • by Asher
  • · Fractal Cypher

If you’ve ever wanted a hearty progressive mix of old and new, then look no further. Imagine Dream Theater and Pagan’s Mind thrown into a melting pot and then given a modern makeover. Do you like the sound of that? I do, which is why I like Fractal Cypher….The songs on The Human Paradox are bold and bigger than life, leaping out of the speakers with confidence and surety. The band know what they’re doing and know how to pull off the ambitious material with apparent ease…The Human Paradox has the ostentation and songwriting of good power metal, the exploratory nature of quality progressive music, the aggression and technicality of modern extravaganzas and the atmospheric impact of an album waiting to be discovered anew with every listen.

About:

RED CAIN was originally conceived as an industrial/gothic hybrid along the lines of Deathstars and Marilyn Manson; they soon evolved to embrace intricate storytelling, finessed their guitar sound, and grew into a more fluid and dynamic musical style. With increased musicianship, the progressive nature of the band grew as did the influence of acts like Kamelot, Symphony X and Tesseract.
Infused with Eastern European mythology and vivid imagery, RED CAIN delivers their style of venomous, yet focused and cinematic metal, constructing compelling musical and lyrical tales in their work.

The band has been a steadfast on the Calgary music scene since 2012, playing at venues such as Distillery, Lord Nelson’s, Dickens, Vern’s, and the Republik, alongside known international and local acts such as Arkona and Scythia.

“Occasionally a unique talent appears on the radar, causing you to really sit up and take notice…This is as much accessible, yet compellingly complex and thrilling 8/10″ – Metal Hammer UK (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

“What Do They Sound Like?: Like Coheed And Cambria with Steve Vai battling Travis and Claudio on guitar; like Jane’s Addiction or early Killing Joke covering Tool (or vice versa). Massively kooky narrative alternative metal with weird vocal effects, pianos and amazing guitar work. Like War of The Worlds played by a band made up of The Fall of Troy and Steve Vai.” – Metal Hammer UK (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

““really fucking impressive.” This Montreal one-man project falls somewhere in the nebulous continuum between Devin Townsend, Cynic, Meshuggah, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, King’s X and Tool. They (he) play complex, melodic but punishing progressive metal that doesn’t lose sight of the art of writing actual “songs.”” – Metal Sucks (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

“The music is metal/progressive rock influenced by bands like Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, that showcase Dominic’s precise technical guitar prowess.” – Amp Kicker (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

“a magnificent debut album” – Sputnik Music (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

“a forward-looking Modern Metal album that’s well worth your time and patience.” – Metal Reviews (2007 Starborn, Tome I)

Short Bio:

Long Bio Download here.

THE CHRONICLES OF ISRAFEL is the solo project of guitarist/vocalist Dominic Cifarelli (former guitar player for Pulse Ultra (Atlantic Records)). It was born during a very uncertain and difficult period leading up to the breakup of Pulse Ultra in 2004. Many late night solo jam sessions combined with the constant viewing of violent Japanese Anime movies helped form the sound of the sometimes brutal and very dark first concept album “Starborn, Tome I”. The album was written to focus on the main character Israfel in his search for a new home and self-discovery. ‘Starborn’ was released in June 2007 through Bridge of Hands Entertainment, an independent arts label dedicated to the development and the distribution of original art.

After its release, a hiatus from TCOI was taken due to demand for Cifarelli’s guitar talents requested for many other projects that included a stint in Los Angeles, touring with Scars on Broadway that featured Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan of System of a Down, a collaboration with Lukas Rossi on the single “Headspin” that is featured on the album “Rockstar Supernova” starring Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted, recording guitars and bass for Billy Ray Cyrus’ 2012 release “Change My Mind” plus performances on French platinum artist Zaho’s debut and sophomore albums, two guitar solos on a Rush tribute album released by Magna Carta, which featured Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Mike Mangini (Dream Theater) and Stu Hamm (Steve Vai. Other highlights in Cifarelli’s career include a featured guest guitar appearance with Cypress Hill and Travis Barker at the annual Smoke Out Festival in San Bernardino, CA, which also featured Incubus, Living Colour and Manu Chao plus guest performances in 2013 with Chevelle in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Taproot at the Whiskey in Los Angeles.

Now fast forward to 2016, nine years after ‘Starborn’ is released. TCOI is reborn beginning in 2014 with new material being written and released as singles / music videos during 2015 and early 2016, which is then followed with a handful of warm up shows in preparation for the official release of Cifarelli’s follow up and sophomore album ‘A Trillion Lights, Tome II’ due out October 15, 2016. The album features 13 tracks of progressive songwriting blended with incredible guitar riffs and symphonic piano rounded with melodic vocals for a cinematic music experience.

Current Endorsements include PRS electric guitars, Godin/Simon&Patrick Acoustic and specialty instruments, Dean Markley Strings, DiMarzio pickups, Sandberg Basses, Two Notes Torpedo Digital Load Box, Source Audio & Solid Gold pedals.
