The primary elements come from progressive, death, and thrash, and over time, they find a lot of their tracks becoming longer, more epic, and more dynamic becoming more melodic and groove-oriented, as well as utilizing a healthy balance between heavy sections and clean sections. The latest iteration of the Canadian quartet can be experienced with their recently released sophomore album “From the Ashes”.

Since writing their second album “From the Ashes”, Fall OF Earth says that they have a better understanding of what they want their music to become and where to steer the direction of their future works. “Fresh Tracks: Fall of Earth offers a smorgasboard of metal on From the Ashes… What if a band took numerous metal genres and combined them to form a monstrous kaiju ? This is the modus operandi of Edmonton’s Fall of Earth. Known more succinctly as “hybrid metal,” Fall of Earth’s sound encompasses death, thrash, progressive, metalcore; you name it, they have it cranked to 11″ – Edmonton Journal

“From the Ashes is an impressive album that showcases Fall of Earth’s growth as musicians and their ability to create powerful, impactful music. The band’s unique sound and technical skill are on full display, and Rye’s vocals are a standout feature throughout the album. From the Ashes is a must-listen for any Metal fan, and Fall of Earth is a band to keep an eye on in the future. Look for them on tour in Canada and many other places.” – Metal Express Radio

“A young and rising Canadian Progressive Death Metal and Metalcore act will attack your senses mercilessly with their incendiary and very personal sophomore album.” – The Headbanging Moose

“A young and rising band from Edmonton kicked some ass armed with their Progressive Death Metal and Metalcore where rock will never die in Toronto last night…. if they’re playing in your city anytime soon don’t miss the chance to watch one of the most promising names from the Canadian Prairies.” – Headbanging Moose (Live Review – June 18, 2023 – Toronto – The Rockpile)

“Whether you see them on stage on the screen, Fall of Earth is truly a force of nature and if you’re looking for one of Canada’s next big metal bands right before they blow up, look no further!” – Dropout Ent. (Live Review – Toronto – June 2023)

“It is an extreme variety of the form we get here, and one that at the core level is defined by seamless transitions between extreme metal, thrash metal and power metal. But in between we also get quirkier parts more aligned with progressive metal, and more interestingly from a progressive point of view we also get a liberal array of acoustic and semi-acoustic passages and interludes with a more delicate and atmospheric laden style, form and orientation. The vocals come with the same amount of versatility, with harsh and melodic lead vocals being the main forms used. A production to seek out by those with an interest in a powerful and vibrant variety of extreme progressive metal expanded with a liberal array of delicate and atmospheric laden interludes.” – Progressor

“Progressive metal, with a bit of a tech death thing going on. clean and harsh vox. cool stuff” – WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“The nine songs present some real diversity in the genre by embracing several different approaches” – Metal Temple

“Listen to Fall of Earth lead singer Alex Rye belt out the title track of the metal band’s sophomore album, From the Ashes, and you’d swear it was Beelzebub himself growling and grunting from the bowls of hell. Then hear Rye’s speak over the phone. No demonic images whatsoever. Just the sound of a well-spoken young man sporting a velvety voice that would be right at home accompanying a mainstream ad plugging the latest in SUVs.” – Sault Star (Sault Ste. Marie, ON)

“Fall of Earth coming to Victoria – Hybrid metal is sure to electrify the crowds… To say Fall of Earth is a work in progress is anything but a negative review of this immensely talented group of musicians.” – Monday Magazine (Victoria, BC)

“a mélange of genres with elements of progressive, death, and thrash.” – Penticton Western News (Penticton, BC)

“hybrid-metal heroes… It’s not your average Canadian band that can secure opening-support slots for popular American extreme-metal acts as Metal Blade recording artists Allegaeon, but then again Fall of Earth is certainly not your average Canadian band.” – E-Know (Cranbrook, BC)

“For Edmonton’s Fall of Earth, the Road to Purgatory is one that they’ve decided will take them across the country.” – Barrie Today (Barrie, ON)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 29, 2024

Traumatomy’s “Consumed Into Nothing” Is A Gory, Relentless Slam Attack Off “Triumph of Enslavement” Out July 2024

Brutal death metal enthusiasts rejoice! Traumatomy, the international band renowned for their slamming brutality, is set to release their latest single “Consumed Into Nothing” off their sixth upcoming EP “Triumph of Enslavement” out this coming July 2024 on Gore House Productions. This highly anticipated release promises to deliver a relentless auditory assault that fans have come to expect from the band. They comment on what to expect with the single:

“We composed this track as the very first one for this album. It turned out to be quite fast and technical. We thought about the lyrics for a long time and decided that it should be abstract and brutal.”

Traumatomy was formed in 2012 by Constantine Chevardin (Disfigurement Of Flesh) and Haruka Kamiyama (ex-Gorevent/Medic Vomiting Pus) as an online project with no plans for live performances. Their debut album “Transcendental Evisceration of Necrogenetic Beasts” in 2013 garnered significant acclaim within the global brutal underground community. Between 2012 and 2018, the band released a second full-length album and three EPs. With the addition of a bassist and drummer in 2018, Traumatomy began touring, bringing their crushing sound to live audiences around the world, and will attract the attention of fans of Gorevent, Cerebral Incubation, and PeelingFlesh.

«There is a consistent groove throughout each song which either features slow, dragging parts where the focus is on the slams, or faster parts in which the riffs and drumming get a lot more technical and intense» – Angelusmortem

«Musically, Traumatomy’s style is very similar to Abominable Putridity, Visceral Disgorge, Party Cannon and Epicardiectomy since the songs have that groovy aesthetic but this time, they’ve bring more depth in their sound since every song doesn’t feel the same as it keeps the melodics, tempos, arrangements and style feel its welcomed and for that, I truly feel this is the best Traumatomy album they’ve done to date» – Metalpurgatorymedia

«You want absolute bestial brutality? You’ve got it!» – bloodynews.ro

=================================================

About the EP as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

The new EP sounds faster, more brutal and more raw. Lyrically it is the same as others.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

1. It`s just intro, nothing special. Our intros are different from other bands, because we actually play tracks instead of just using samples.

2. It`s main track of this EP. The track represents the entire EP, as the lyrics and title are related to the album cover.

3. This is the fastest track on the album. It has the most blast beats.

4. It`s our drummer`s favourite track. The most balanced track.

5.  It has the perfect structure for the end of the album.

=================================================

STORY ANGLES – FUN FACTS

1. A former band member once vomited and shitted at the same time after the last show of our European tour. He drank a lot of the national Czech drink slivovitz.

2.  Our bass player was smoking weed, thinking he was smoking cigarettes. Then he fell in the bathroom and hit his head. :)))
It was slammy!!!!

3. When we were on tour in Russia, in the city of Astrakhan, our bus was broken into and our merch was stolen.

The next day we noticed that local alcoholics were wearing our T-shirts.

4. One day we were invited to an open air event in Cheboksary. We didn’t know what awaited us since it was our first time working with this show manager. When we arrived, there was an open field, forest and pits in front of us. There was no equipment or stage, just bare ground.

When we approached this manager with a question, he replied that all his bands performed like this and did not see any problem. He invited us to play and then spend the night on the bare ground with him. (Even without beer)

5. The former live vocalist performed with us at the festival in Germany “Death Fest open air”, after our return to Russia a local newspaper wrote about him, the headline was: “The retail worker of a local alcohol store was carried on fans arms in Germany” lol

Traumatomy – international band formed in 2012 by Constantine Chevardin (Disfigurement Of Flesh) and Haruka Kamiyama (ex-Gorevent/Medic Vomiting Pus). Initially, the band was planned as an online-project without live shows. In 2013, the debut full-length album  “Transcendental Evisceration of Necrogenetic Beasts” and was well received in the global brutal underground community. Second full-length albums and three EP were released between 2012 and 2018. Since our bassist and drummer joined us in 2018, the band began touring activity.

As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2024 will be the 33rd edition of the festival and will be held from July 31st – August 3rd. The 2024 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Scorpions, Amon Amarth, Blind Guardian, In Extremo, Pain, Beast In Black, and many more. Details here.

EPK – The Aphelion – Nascence (2024)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“The Aphelion is an outlet for each member to push their technical abilities to the max, while also telling album-spanning stories and composing complex, engaging, creative pieces of music. While the ultimate goal is purely artistic, the hope is that the results bring a challenging but overall satisfying listening experience to fans.

The objective with Nascence, the first of two album, which will be followed by Senescence was to create a cohesive multi-album spanning story while still having each album contain its own unique musical aesthetics and complete listening experience. In a way, Nascence musically has always been the calm before the storm, and while the songs are almost always rooted in metal, the album grows from a more classical-influenced, beautiful prog-rock flavoured sound to a fast, angry, teeth-gnashing finale.” – Evan Haydon-Selkirk – Lead Vocals, Bass – The Aphelion

“The name may be kind of similar to a Leprous album from 2021 but The Aphelion are a Canadian prog metal quartet who are about to release their new concept album Nascence on August 9. The upcoming album tells the story of a man’s descent into madness and his mind in response to the mundanity and repetitiveness of the world around him. “Musically, this song takes influence from the 70s prog rock era,” the band state. “It features guest appearances by Brian Asselin on saxophone and Eric Littlewood on trumpet. At this point in the story, the protagonist meets the love of his life, and while their new love is beautiful and for a time he is fulfilled and happy, eventually the relationship sours as he becomes afraid of her hurting him, and grows distrustful and controlling.” – Prog Magazine – Tracks of The Week – August 9th  – The Seed of Doubt

“The sonic goal is one of innovation, dramatic flair, and emotional gravity, with unexpected shifts in genre to create contrast and bring levity. With upcoming double album “Nascence” and “Senescence”, The Aphelion are once again telling an album-spanning story inspired by philosophy and the human condition; a tradition that began with their 2018 release “The Labour Division”.” – The ProgSpace

“This song is masterfully handled musically, with soaring vocals and string melodies, all tackled in a minor key, that oozes melancholic hopelessness. It’s a crazy juxtapose of beauty within the instrumentation, and utter painful madness lyrically. Heavy riffs, growls, thunderous drums, and cyclical riffs in crazy time signatures create the soundtrack of sheer madness and terror by the end of the track, along with multi-layered vocals, like voices in the head of the protagonist. A very clever track indeed. 9/5/10″ – Ever Metal

“This Canadian quartet combine a range of styles into a progressive metallic stew where at one end of the spectrum classical and orchestral elements cross swords with aggressive death metal and thrash at the extreme end…. ‘Flight’ sees The Aphelion persevere with an intense passage: almost seven minutes of furious and breakneck release with a suitably harsh vocal, with barely a pause for thought, and perhaps the reason for an intricate passage offered by ‘The Interloper’ where the intensity is provided by an impassioned vocal and impressively complex interplay. The musical climax of ‘Deserter’ is suitably grandiose yet leaves the expectation that the story will find its natural conclusion.” – Powerplay Magazine UK

“For me it’s the Prog record of the year, which is never too cerebral or tiring, but carries you through the entire album. That’s why it’s mine 9 out of 10 Hellfire points worth it, because I’m already really looking forward to it if I can hold the second part of the saga in my hands.” – Hellfire-Magazin

““Fragility!” It’s a wild track that really highlights the bands composing ability, and heavy, yet soulful side.” – Ghost Cult Mag

“The Aphelion’s phenomenal vocal range and enticing clashing of instrumentals will prove to be nothing short of intoxicating.” – Canadian Beats

“What strikes me most about the album is how well the themes fit into the music, as well as the level of care they put into their craft. The music has this thread of tension that runs through it in nearly every song, and the musicianship is outstanding. It can go from calm to on fire in a second, and it keeps the listener actively engaged in both the music and the tale. Bravo. 9/10″ – Metal-Temple

“An album to seek out by those fond of an expressive and expansive take on the progressive metal tradition.” – The Progressor

““The Seed Of Doubt,” breathes into the liminal testing of time. A song that shimmers and shivers into bright sparks.” – The Median Man

“The Aphelion are very different and refreshingly intriguing. The musicianship is complex as you would expect with prog-metal, but that’s where their genre similarities end. The vocals are wonderfully unique and the tracks from their new album “Nascence” (dropping Aug. 9th) are also full of unique metal passages to take you on a conceptual journey. Tune in & catch The Aphelion on your Home for the Best New Rock…” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

“In this single – which I highly recommend – THE APHELION wanted to capture the essence of the vulnerability we all experience. “Fragility” is a testament to the beauty and strength found in our moments of weakness. For them, it is a piece that resonates on a deeply personal level, both musically and lyrically.” – Plus PROG de Vous

“… a really interesting album, filled to the brim with technical skill and fantastic storytelling. Having that almost conceptual essence helps to drive home the album as a whole. I really enjoy the inclusion of unclean vocals alongside the clean in both “The Heavy Mist” and “Flight”, and those two tracks in particular are standout moments for me… I cannot wait to see how the 2nd album in the series differs from this one. I’m hoping for more of the same, but tweaked.” – Fox Reviews Rock

“Un album limite extrême prog percutant, fabuleux dans le genre. Un son à part, fort, énergique, métal mais progressiste et fabuleux, rien d’autre, c’est excellent 9/10″
“An album bordering on extreme prog, hard-hitting, fabulous in its genre. A sound apart, strong, energetic, metal but progressive and fabulous, nothing else, it’s excellent.9/10” – Profil Prog

“I love the melodic prog metal sound they’re going for, and I’ll be following their career from the sidelines to see how they develop. They’re one of the few groups for which I can say that I’ve been covering them since the beginning, and they’ll always have a special place in my heart because of that.” – The Progressive Subway

About The Album Artwork:

All of the pieces for each single and album cover are done by the incredibly talented Thunder Bay artist Alyssa Kusik (@salsafish.art on Instagram). Each piece is oil painted on canvas with mixed media elements such as yarn poked through the canvas, as well as digital layering applied in the final process. Her works were all inspired heavily by the album concept as well as the lyrics, and she worked closely with Evan to create as strong of a visual representation of the story and emotionality as possible.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):
EVAN SAYS:

Lyrically Nascence tells the story of a man’s descent into madness and his own mind in response to the mundanity and repetitiveness of the world around him.

As our protagonist loses his grip, he begins to allow his relationships with those he cares about to deteriorate, and becomes increasingly paranoid; at first suspecting that those who love him are hurting him, being unfaithful, and eventually that they’re merely actors who are staging his life. As he stalks his wife one day, he is confronted by a homeless man who tells him not to trust his reality and that everyone around him is not what they seem. In response, he snaps completely and begins to run from his life. What happens next? You’ll have to wait until Senescence to find out.

While the album is not autobiographical, I made a point of drawing from life experience where I could in order to emotionally charge my writing and performances, as well as to create authenticity while still telling a fictional story.

JAMES SAYS:

Musically, the album begins with a more accessible, prog-rock-influenced sound. Songs towards the beginning of the album (Nascence, The Seed of Doubt) are calmer and catchier, and feature lots of grand pianos, violin, and horns. As the album goes on, the sound slowly becomes more dissonant, heavy, and layered with organs, strings, distorted guitars, and synthesizers. These shifts in genre match progressions in the story told by the lyrics, and the growing dissonance and chaos represent the protagonist losing his mind as the story unfolds.

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

PRENASCENT – Prenascent is an instrumental overture made up of passages from the other songs on the album. It introduces all of the main musical motifs and sets the tone for what’s to come. While it has no lyrics, Prenascent could be considered the birth of our protagonist.

NASCENCE – Nascence is the title track of the album and lyrically represents the beginning of the story and the mental state we find our protagonist in. He is afraid of dying and even more than that, he is afraid of having lived an unremarkable life. Musically, it begins with a beautiful orchestral passage of grand piano, horns, and strings, with soft, somber vocals and jazzy solo passages. However, the song takes a turn for the darker, weaving through extremely intense and technical instrumental passages before arriving at a grandiose operatic chorus and a sweeping guitar masterclass before going out with heavy riffs, blast beats, and a stunning piano finale.

THE SEED OF DOUBT – Musically, this song takes influences from the 70s prog rock era. It features an organ solo and guest appearances from Brian Asselin and Eric Littlewood on saxophone and trumpet. At this point in the story, the protagonist meets the love of his life, and while their new love is beautiful and for a time he is fulfilled and happy, eventually the relationship sours as he becomes afraid of her hurting him, and grows distrustful and controlling.

FRAGILITY – Fragility is where the first real cracks in the protagonist’s psyche begin to form. At first he suspects, and then accuses his wife of cheating, telling her that she is the reason he’s so unhappy and the root of his mental illness. The man awakens the next morning remembering nothing but violence, and yet his wife lays sleeping peacefully next to him and nothing is out of place. He begins to wonder if he has had a vision of death, and whether it was his death or hers that he saw, and fears that the worst has yet to come. Musically, the song is a blend of classical orchestration, art rock sensibilities, and heavy riffs.

THE HEAVY MIST – At this point, the protagonist’s paranoia has begun expanding to his mother and his friends, and he begins to realize he has no memories of his upbringing or much of his past. Musically, this song is of two halves – it begins with a rocky alternating meter riff before soothing the listener into a false sense of security with beautiful chord progressions and vocal layering. From there it brings the energy back up into a more straight-ahead hard rock sound and eventually a death metal reprise of the first verse, setting the stage for Flight.

FLIGHT – Flight is by far the heaviest song on the album, an homage to thrash metal and prog death giants such as Gojira. It moves at a near break-neck pace across its nearly seven-minute track time across blistering solos, thrashy riffs, and pummeling breakdowns. Lyrically, the protagonist has been shaken into fight or flight and tries to escape his life and loved ones. He is chased out onto the street, believing he is being chased by everyone in the neighbourhood. He is tackled to the ground, and forced back inside, where he laments that he is now alone.

THE INTERLOPER – This track is one of the more musically intricate songs on the album. It has tons of keyboard layers, polyrhythms, and time signature changes. At this point in the story he has been left alone and escapes again, but this time decides to stalk his wife and prove that she is unfaithful and plotting against him. Just as he believes he’s got her, he is accosted by a homeless man who starts to tell him detailed things about his past that he had long forgotten.

DESERTER – Deserter is a culmination of all of the sounds across this album and features indulgent non-linear songwriting tied together with catchy choruses. The song pushes each member to their limit at one point or another across its runtime and features complex polymeters and incredibly fast passages. It is the finale of the album, but a cliffhanger of sorts lyrically, as it tells the perspective of our protagonist’s response to a total stranger telling him details about his life and not to trust anything. The protagonist has more questions, but the homeless man disappears before he can answer, which causes the protagonist to snap and begin to run for the forest.

What happens next remains to be seen in the second half, Senescence.

STORY ANGLES – FUN FACTS:

1. The band’s debut album, The Labour Division was recorded in its entirety in a single weekend. All members of the band worked around the clock recording their parts from the time they arrived at the studio on Friday evening to Sunday late at night taking small breaks to sleep on the studio floor.

2. A long-time staple of the Aphelion’s performances has been their infamous “polka wall of death” which involved the band separating the crowd and preparing them for a wall of death and then surprising them by playing the polka-inspired passage at the end of “Conflict Theory” instead of the heavy breakdown the crowd was expecting.

3. A yellow honey bear accompanies the band on stage at every performance. Location varies.

4. The band once serenaded the crowd with a Napalm Death inspired performance of Happy Birthday upon request from bar staff at a gig in Pembroke. The gig took place at a restaurant and much of the audience was enjoying a quiet dinner with family unaware that they were going to be treated to a metal show.

5. Evan, Tyler, and James have known each other since high school, and the lineup has been steady since 2016. James and Evan have been in bands together since 2013. All four members are incredibly close, creating not just a band, but a close-knit group of friends.

The Aphelion is a hard-hitting progressive metal band from Ottawa, Ontario who have been active since 2015. Members, Evan Haydon-Selkirk (lead vocals, bass guitar, keyboard), James Cabral (guitar, keyboard), Tyler Davis (guitar, backing vocals), and Nathanael Livingstone (drums, percussion) have crafted an image, sound, and musical bond on Canadian stages through nearly a decade of collaboration.

The sonic goal is one of innovation, dramatic flair, and emotional gravity, with unexpected shifts in the genre to create contrast and bring levity. With the upcoming double album Nascence and Senescence, The Aphelion is once again telling an album-spanning story inspired by philosophy and the human condition; a tradition that began with their 2018 release the Labour Division.

On the live stage, The Aphelion brings the drama and bombast of their material to life with energetic and emotional live shows focusing on audience participation and feats of musical gymnastics. Truly a single unit, the members interact, spotlight each other for solo sections, and support one another from the first note to the last. Afterwards, the members can be found at the merch booth, or in the pit supporting their fellow locals and headliners.

The Aphelion have opened for bands such as Protest the Hero, Intervals, Mandroid Echostar, Ne Obliviscaris, Alestorm, and Powerglove, and have begun expanding their reach throughout the galaxy.

MOURNING VEIL Release Second Blackened Death Metal Album “Heresy Code”

Mourning Veil, the melancholic and raw blackened death metal band from the USA, is proud to announce the release of their second studio album “Heresy Code”. This new offering emerges as a significant progression from their debut album, 2022’s “Communion”. This latest work promises to deliver an aggressive, and brutal listening experience suitable for all fans of extreme metal. The band comments on the release:

“The album is a soundscape that reaches from the classical guitar to gravity blast beats, filled with intricate riffs and searing solos of both the guitar and bass variety, topped with unrelenting vocals and cemented with a precise and intuitive drum performance. The album title says it all, with themes of war, power, control, subversion, and heresy.”

Across ten tracks, Mourning Veil delivers black, thrash, and melodic metal structures that encompass their technical prowess and showcase themes like questioning authority, the relentless nature of human bloodlust, and the consequences of forced ideology.

Formed in 2022 by Blake Lamoureux and Steven Sorensen, Mourning Veil has quickly established a formidable presence in the metal scene. The current lineup features Blake Lamoureux (Bass/Vocals), Steven Sorensen (Drums), Ryan Dillon (Guitars), and Maxim van Klinken (Guitars). With Blake based in Des Moines, IA, and the rest of the band in Omaha, NE, their collaborative effort transcends distance, bringing a unified and dynamic sound to “Heresy Code”. It is recommended for fans of Behemoth, Belphegor, and Carach Angren.

Out Now! THE MISFIRES New Album “are Dead, long Live The Misfires” Is The Last of Their Legacy!

L-R – Kevin Burgess, Guitar (original member) – Ryan Biggs, Drums – Barrett Klesko, Vocals – Colton Taylor, Guitar – Justin Cruse, Bass – Not Pictured, Seedy Mitchell, Guitar

The Misfires are a high-energy skate-punk band from Edmonton, Alberta, known for their dynamic stage shows that actively involve the audience. The band quickly gained a following and performed numerous high-profile shows, including opening acts for Face to Face and Authority Zero. Their debut album, “Songs about Stuff,” is highly regarded in the punk community.

Despite their success, the band disbanded in 2016 due to internal strife. However, before their breakup, they had completed tracks on a full-length album “are Dead, long Live The Misfires”, which is now out on May 24th, 2024. The album serves as a final testament to their legacy.

“I didn’t want this to sit unfinished on a hard drive forever,” says Barrett Klesko, the driving force behind The Misfires. “Though the band didn’t survive, we made an incredible album that is both a love letter to the skatepunk sound of the 90s and a step forward in modern punk. Our specific style of satirical social and political commentary continues to be loved by our fans. Throughout the years, we’ve received a steady stream of messages and fan mail urging our comeback. While I can’t guarantee it, a reunion is never out of the question. After all, aging punks are still punks, and we definitely still have shit to say.”

The band consisted of notable Edmonton metal scene veterans: Barrett Klesko of All Else Fails, Degenerator, The Secret Places of the Earth, ex. The Order of Chaos (vocals), Seedy Mitchell Sleepwraith, ex. All Else Fails (guitar), Justin Cruse, King Theory, ex Naked Beauty (bass), Ryan Biggs Sleepwraith, ex. All Else Fails(drums), and Colton Taylor Violet Riot (guitar).

The Misfires‘ music was characterized by a potent blend of scathing social and political commentary, sardonic self-analysis, and an explosive musical sound that paid homage to 90’s skatepunk while injecting a fresh perspective into the Canadian punk scene. Their songs resonated with a generation disillusioned with the status quo, making them a band to remember in the punk rock landscape.

Valfreya is a blackened death symphonic metal band from Montreal, Canada that has been active, to the delight of its enthusiastic fans, since 2009. Thrilled bards, fervent musicians, storytellers, and spirited performers, Valfreya used to gear their musicality towards a Celtic and folkloric metal genre. They are now releasing their sixth album “Dawn Of Reckoning”, a concept album that follows the goddess Hel as she brings malice and justice to humanity. The band comments:

“Dawn of Reckoning is a concept album. The main theme revolves around the anger of the goddess Hel which plays the metaphorical role of a fatal justice towards a guilty humanity. The songs convey this anger, but also a range of intense emotions related to the execution of humankind. Musically, you will hear dark symphonies, epic choirs, versatile vocals alongside tumultuous guitars and violin riffs.”

On stage, Valfreya has a theatrical presence even though they don’t always take themselves seriously. They transmit the musical mood to the crowd through a homogeneous complicity, but also through instrumental performance worthy of what you can hear on the album.

Valfreya‘s dedication to their craft shines through in every aspect of “Dawn of Reckoning”. From the intricate compositions to the powerful lyrics, each element of the album is meticulously crafted to immerse listeners in a world of darkness and despair. The album was produced by Valfreya plus mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and the artwork was done by Alex O’Dowd. It is recommended for fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Carach Angren, and Wintersun.
