Psychostick didn’t so much play a gig as host a party. Other bands may think they can get a giggle by swearing a bit or insulting the fairer sex’s ability to give directions, but Psychostick somehow manage it better than anyone else. Add to this their brilliant “Bruce Campbell” anthem and the simply superb “So Heavy” and you’ve got a great night up wrapped up in a setlist.

Prog Metal TACTUS Premiere New Track ‘Goliath’ via Progressive Music Planet
New Album ‘Bending Light’ Due Out October 7th

L-R: Tactus Current Lineup | Steve Parish (bass) | Ben MacLean (drums) | Jason McKnight (vocals) | Alec Dobbelsteyn (guitar) | Adrian Barnes (guitar & vocals)
Fredericton, New Brunswick five piece progressive metal band TACTUS will be unleashing debut full length ‘Bending Light’ on October 7th. The album features ten outer limit prog tracks produced by the band with mixing and mastering by Jamie King (Between The Buried In Me, Paradise Lost, Scale The Summit) to follow their previously released EPs ‘ins(T)rumental’ (2015) and ‘T’ (2014) plus singles ‘Enigma’ and their metal cover of The Police’s ‘Roxanne’.
The band has teamed up with Progressive Music Planet for the premiere of their behemoth of a second single ‘Goliath’.
The band comments on the track:
“Goliath is one of the longest song’s we’ve ever written, and it actually went through the most iterations and re-writes of any song on the album. We think it captures some of the more progressive spirit of Bending Light, and is a great reflection of the directions in which we want to push our music in the future. We were beyond honoured to have incredible guitarist and our good friend Didier Archambault of Cardinals Pride put the cherry on top with the first guitar solo on the track.”
The album is available for pre-order at the following links.
Formed in 2011 as a jam project by three fellow music students, the group has gone on to release several singles and EPs independently, while having the opportunity to share the stage with great metal acts like Protest the Hero, Intervals, Black Crown Initiate, and Mandroid Echostar. The group pride themselves on their infusion of multiple musical styles into hard-hitting riffs, epic choruses, and technically intense passages. Soaring melodies, guttural growls, and destructive breakdowns flow into soft, slow, and pensive segments of jazz and rock. Their compositional method, where songs are conceived, written, transcribed, and edited before they are ever learned or rehearsed, adds a level of refinement and fluidity not always found in heavier music. The band do almost all of their engineering work themselves, but have also worked with several talented producers. Their first EP T (June 2014), comprised of four previously released singles and one new song, featured the mixing and mastering handiwork of Gino Bambino (Novallo) and Justin Hill (SikTh). Their single Resurface (December 2014) was handled by George Lever (Burials).

Out Now! ALMAH Unleash New Album ‘E.V.O’ In North America via Test Your Metal Records
Brazilian metallers ALMAH led by ex-Angra singer Edu Falaschi are proud to unleash their new album entitled ‘E.V.O’ out now as of September 23rd and available in North America (US/MX/CA) via Test Your Metal Records at the following link: http://www.testyourmetalrecords.bigcartel.com/product/almah-e-v-o-pre-order. ‘E.V.O’ is also available through Pride & Joy Music (EU) and King Records (Japan).
‘E.V.O’ is the 5th studio album from ALMAH and was recorded in São Paulo, Brazil at IMF studios by Tito Falaschi plus mixed and mastered by Damien Rainaud (Fear Factory, Dragonforce, Baby Metal, etc) at Mix Unlimited in Los Angeles, California. The release is a concept album based on the evolution of people’s mind and soul during the so-called AGE OF AQUARIUS – the new era that the world is about to live. The author of the concept, Edu Falaschi, touches different subjects connected to the main idea, creating very positive lyrics for the album’s atmosphere.
Musically ‘E.V.O’ brings a fresh and powerful sound with the typical modern and heavy ALMAH touch, but this time one will be able to realize that it also has a direct connection with the Angra’s “Rebirth” (the first Angra album with Edu Falaschi’s voice). The compositions are a pleasant travel between contemporary rock, modern power and prog metal. The vocal lines on ‘E.V.O’ are very powerful, classic and the vocals have a higher pitch compared to previous ALMAH’s records. It’s very melodic, clean and into the bel canto style.

Calgary thrashers ILLYRIAN have teamed up with Metal Nation Radio for the premiere of their second single and lyric video ‘Zeta Reticulan’ in support of their upcoming album ‘Round 2: Fight!’ due out on October 7th. The album was co-produced by the band with Casey Lewis at Echo Base Studios plus mastered by Sacha Laskow (Every Hour Kills, ex-Divinity) at Perfect Fifth Studios.

Formed in 2011 under the name Hellborn Death Engines, the band is resurfacing under the new moniker ILLYRIAN with the recent additions of bassist / vocalist Jeff Perry (Sikarra, ex-Animus Labyrinth) plus British drum sensation Darren May (ex-Deacon Birch) who have brought new and progressive musical mindsets into the band to join original and founding members Scott Onofrychuk (guitars/vocals) and Brandon McNeil (guitar/vocals).
Evolving into a highly technical group playing thrash metal with their erratic and precise on-stage delivery, rapier wit, along with nostalgic charm, ILLYRIAN have removed the constraints of conventional metal sub-genre formula to replace their sound with a melting pot of technical thrash riffs, blistering solos, prog-influenced rhythms along with the band’s signature tri-vocal attack.

0 Wonderbox Metal – Fractal Cypher – The Human Paradox
If you’ve ever wanted a hearty progressive mix of old and new, then look no further. Imagine Dream Theater and Pagan’s Mind thrown into a melting pot and then given a modern makeover. Do you like the sound of that? I do, which is why I like Fractal Cypher….The songs on The Human Paradox are bold and bigger than life, leaping out of the speakers with confidence and surety. The band know what they’re doing and know how to pull off the ambitious material with apparent ease…The Human Paradox has the ostentation and songwriting of good power metal, the exploratory nature of quality progressive music, the aggression and technicality of modern extravaganzas and the atmospheric impact of an album waiting to be discovered anew with every listen.
