Finnish Thrashers MUTANT BLAST Haunt Fans w/ Horror Inspired Video “Final Day”

New Album “Soulsteeler” Out Sept 2024 via Rockshots Records

Featuring a mix of slightly older, re-arranged tracks alongside new compositions, Finnish thrashers Mutant Blast are set to unleash their new album “Soulsteeler” this coming September 2024 via Rockshots Records. The album has been meticulously crafted over the last year and a half with utmost dedication. The band’s sound is characterized as ‘Metal thrashing death’n’roll – and heavy!’. This defining style is evident throughout “Soulsteeler”, featuring powerful riffs, good melodies, and strong songwriting aimed at engaging listeners.

“The album is full of groovy thrash metal songs blasting away in high gear! It contains both slightly older, re-arranged songs and more recent compositions. We hope that as many fans of heavier music as possible will find the band and get to hear the end result!” adds the band.

Today, Mutant Blast unveils their latest single and accompanying video, “Final Day”. This track stands out as the slowest and most atmospheric on the album, yet remains intensely heavy.

The band comments:

“The slowest and very atmospheric, but at the same time very heavy song on the album. We wanted to do something different this time. This song begins with a spooky horror movieish intro which leads to stomping verses and a melodic chorus. The lyrics are also set in a horror movie environment; lost alone and the dread of the unknown.”

After a five-year hiatus from releasing new material, San Diego, USA’s Tzimani is set to unleash their highly anticipated new single “We Stand and Fight”, on July 19, 2024. This track marks the dynamic duo of brothers Eddie and Seb Vazquez’s bold return to the metal scene, blending old-school heavy metal elements with their unique sound. They comment on the single:

“We Stand and Fight is the rippin’ high-octane opening track to our debut album. We knew from the get-go that this song would be the opening track to the record, with its triumphant and powerful riffs, leads, and battle-themed lyrics about rising to the occasion and fighting for what you believe in, against all odds. Since we wrote the song, it has become our show opener and a live staple when we need to kickstart the crowd and get heads banging.”

You know those albums that you listen to over and over again and you just know when the first song hits your sense of familiarity, nostalgia, warmth, and comfort? That is what Tzimani is trying to encapsulate. The song is straightforward rockin’ heavy metal and they feel it is the best track to kick off the next release cycle and to show all the fans as well as new folks listening to them, what they are capable of.

Despite the relentless touring from 2017 to 2019, the pandemic brought an unexpected slowdown for Tzimani. From 2020 to 2023, the band entered a dormant phase, with limited activity and sporadic performances across California. During this period, however, they remained active in the local scene, using the time to write, record, and finalize their highly anticipated debut album, which can be expected in the near future. They are recommended for fans of Van Halen, Revolution Saints, and Santa Cruz.

“Typically, when promo proclaims that a band represents a “bold new take” on a traditional, well-trod style, you can expect the same: yet another forgettable “revitalization” of a sound and aesthetic that has been done to death, reanimated, and then slaughtered by copycats once more. In the case of Tzimani, the status quo is effectively put in its place.” – Sleeping Village

“Electrifying pace sets ‘We Are The Ones’ on fire, hurtling along at full velocity, displaying all the hallmarks associated with the “foot on the monitor” style of traditional heavy metal. Hitting hard like an out of control wrecking ball” – Frenzy Fire / Metal Gods TV

” This two piece hailing from San Diego shredded their way through their set. Straight up heavy metal brothers rocking their way across North America. Eddie can really play the guitar. Each song they played were full of mean riffs and ripping solos.” – Metal As Medicine (Live Review – 2019 – Kelowna, BC)

” They surprised us all when vocalist/guitarist Eddie Vazquez announced that they were the only other band on the bill. It was their best time to shine. Kudos to you Vazquez brothers!… Tzimani set up shop, and made that stage their biatch! Soon enough they began playing songs that were not included in their demo such as “Overdrive,” and dished out their hits “Final Hour” and “Get Me Out Of Here” which are available on their demo. “You know those albums that you listen to over and over again and you just know when the first song hits your sense of familiarity, nostalgia, warmth, and comfort? That is what we are trying to encapsulate. The album is straightforward heavy metal mixed with modern elements with a dash of AOR and we feel it is the best representation to show everyone what we are capable of. We are also trying to represent the future of the band and give everyone an entry into some of the larger questions that we struggle with and how we choose to represent that with our songwriting. We are not the type of band that is capable of singing about stories, dragons, and swords, but we excel at writing tunes that people can genuinely relate to and connect with.” – Seb V. – Tzimani

About The Album Artwork:

Ryan Bartlett based out of Los Angeles has been our go to guy for all things album releases. He did our band logo, band symbol, and our eponymous release, so we wanted him to be able to take the artwork that we have from the EP and transcend it to something more comprehensive and elaborate. He absolutely knocked it out of the park and we think it is his finest piece in his portfolio but that is me being biased because I love it so much. He even went above and beyond and did out templates for physical release and did an incredible job at providing something original but engaging.  – Seb V.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

This album is our first synthesizer infusion with our sound. I’ve always wanted to blend heavy metal and synth and it’s our first foray into that sound and we think we were able to get it down in a way that works and remains engaging without potentially alienating the focus of the music. It also gives us an opportunity to go in a broader direction with where I want to go musically too. I’d love to go into a synth heavy AOR direction with a rockin’ metal twist. This album gives me that platform.  – Eddie V.

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

We Stand and Fight

We Stand and Fight is a powerful speed metal song that channels the power and energy of early heavy metal to convey a lyrical message about standing up for what you believe in,  against all obstacles.

Breaker

While Tzimani is not an overtly political band, this song is specifically about those who have been scapegoated and blamed for all the ills in the world. Immigrants, are those that are trying to find a better life. This song is definitely more of a rock vibe to it with the midtempo chug but it is something that we like to perform live as a set piece to our shows.

Hold On

I think we all have had enduring issues with loved ones and those we choose to become romantic with. We try our best to make things work and over time we realize that some things are not quite right. The song is about those who struggle to hold on to something that they know it is not right for them in terms of forever. It will eventually be ok as time heals everything, and we have an uplifting tone and drive to the arrangement of the song with galloping double bass lines, sweet guitar leads, and energetic connecting pieces. It also slows down a bit so that the dynamics can speak for how the song is written lyrically.

Haunting

As Eddie said, Haunting is a song about toxic relationships and people having the courage to walk away from them. It can be difficult to realize the strength to make the distance so that is what I wanted to write about with this song. The song is infused with a driving synth-heavy pulse that not only carries the mid-tempo piece with elegance and eloquence it also pieces it all together with a melancholy timbre. It is one of our favorite songs to play and it really opens the dynamic capabilities of the band and what we can achieve sonically.

Endless Road

Musically, this song is going to bend and be closer to what modern heavy music leans to. While it retains the classic Tzimani double bass and heavy but clean rhythms, it has a mood and tone to it that brings the song to a resounding climax in the solo section. We think it is one of our more strong solo sections and it is a song that was written almost ten years ago and we feel that we are ready to release the song after some maturation musically. We all dream of triumph and tribulation and becoming the best that there is to be. This song represents the struggles one may go through the perseverance of building character and fear the loss of strength and the inability to carry on beyond what you personally believe you are capable of.

Bleeding Life

Imagine if Journey decided to write a slightly metal-heavy tune and added some galloping bass drum parts to it. This song represents an allegory of the struggles of daily life and the challenges that come with it. No one ever has it easy, even the dudes that we think do, so this song has more of a sad tone to it to carry the message that we are trying to illustrate musically. We love that this song gives us a lot of room to work with in terms of where we can go musically but its a song that represents a lot of the inner struggles that we each deal with as people, and as people in a band.

Empty

I think we all have had someone that “walked away” on us but really it was a matter of our own doing. We sometimes have to struggle within and deal with our personal demons in order to have a satisfied outlook on life and sometimes our own personal demons can get in the way of our romantic partnerships or people that we hold dearly. It’s a song closer to AOR with a bit of rock to it and we love how we arrange the tune to carry the message forward with clean rhythms, catchy lyrics, and an anthemic solo section.

I Feel Fine

This is Van Halen meets heavy metal all the way, baby. Go put on some 5150 and listen to that rattle and roll that was captured by the band during that point in their tenure. We tried to go with a bit of VH worship but also close out the record with a resounding finish to put the record to a close. Most of the songs in a lot of ways capture some form of inner struggle and this one certainly has the anthemic chorus where we proclaim “I Feel Fine.” The song is about the banality of everyday life. Think about the problems of that most people have to go through and the fact that most have to hide their true feelings. The song has blistering double bass. Massive hooks and a solo break to tie it all together.

FUN FACTS / STORY ANGLES

1.We tour in a SUV hauling a trailer. If you ever catch a black Pilot out on the road hauling a trailer at night chances are you will trail us to to a parking lot where we will eventually get cozy and fall asleep. We have this air mattress that we blow up and it fits perfectly when we put all the back seats down. I guess one of the perks of a traveling two man band.

2. We track and engineer all of our stuff in house. Eddie is good as an engineer so he puts all the hard work in the studio process to get a finished product. He really enjoys just playing guitar though and often thinks about hiring on a killer guitar player so he can just be a frontman and really own the stage. As we have learned doing the two-piece for so many years is that you are incredibly limited in how you do a “stage show” so you need to let the songwriting, energy, and live performance do most of the talking.

3. The best tour story that we have ever experienced was having our show in New Mexico get canceled on the same day we were supposed to play there. The promoter called me to give me the bad news but he had a friend that was throwing a garage style party and needed another live act. So he put me into contact with the birthday woman and she gave me an address.

Little did we know that the address was going to take us to backroads Albuquerque and it was sitting on a lot surrounding by two house that we had to drive on unpaved road for a bit. We feared that we would lose control of the vehicle as we were hauling a trailer headed to the place but it was fine. Once we arrive the party, it turned out that it was a backyard biker gang party and that there was going to be pantera tribute as the main entertainment. Think old, rad dudes in bandanas, open carrying, big knives in their waistbands, chain smoking, and real tough looking mfers.

We ended up performing our set to a widely accepting audience with loud hollering and hoots. We tore down and let the Pantera band set up.

Once they got going to kick off the show, the front man announced “WE ARE FROM LA.”

Eddie and I looked at each other thinking “dude this shit is tight! We are playing this garage biker party with another CA band”

Then the frontman goes “LOWER ALBUQUERQUE!” and the guitarist goes right into the opening riff into Cowboys from Hell. We must have openly laughed for a solid 5 minutes straight. It was incredibly well delivered and the seriousness of the gag gave it the punchline it deserved.

That is one hell of way to pitch to someone and it was such an incredible experience given the circumstances of the entire ordeal in New Mexico on that day.

4. Our backing track bassist has two nicknames. Mac Ableton is the one we created, and Robobass 5000 is the one our buddy DJ created. We did one time hear two kids talking shit about us in a bar after we played a set.

One kid goes to another and says “dude did you like that band?” and the kid responds “fuck no. They use auto bass.”

It was hilariously candid and I am sure the kids did not know we were within earshot but we laughed about it and still joke about it to this day. It keeps us grounded and ensures that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Especially living in the 21st century.

5. Raising Canes is our favorite tour food and we try our damndest to consume it as often as we can while living out on the road. I have tried contacting them through several outlets to try to secure some form of sponsorship but to no avail.

Tzimani is a dynamic metal duo comprised of brothers Seb and Eddie Vazquez from San Diego CA. Founded in 2017 after the pair split from a previous project, Tzimani sought to revolutionize their musical direction. Seb, a powerhouse on drums, and Eddie, a multi-instrumentalist handling guitars, bass, synthesizers, and vocal duties, hit the ground running with their new sound.

In 2017, Tzimani launched their journey with a demo release, swiftly followed by an ambitious West Coast and Southwest tour. They captivated audiences in key markets like Portland, Seattle, and Texas, rapidly building a dedicated fanbase with their electrifying live performances.

The band’s momentum continued to surge in 2018 with the release of their eponymous self-titled EP. This major release, distributed digitally through Noize Cartel Records, propelled Tzimani into the national spotlight. Their relentless touring schedule took them across North America, including over 100 shows that extended into Canada. Notable festival appearances at the Legions of Metal Festival in 2019 and Hyperspace Metal Festival in 2022 solidified their reputation as a formidable live act.

Tzimani’s sound is a unique fusion of melodic AOR elements and the aggressive, rhythmic intensity of old-school heavy metal. Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe, Van Halen, and Def Leppard, Tzimani’s music features twin-guitar leads, virtuoso solos, and Seb’s pounding double-bass drumming. Eddie’s vocal phrasing echoes the legendary Dio, while his guitar work channels the spirit of Eddie Van Halen.

Their dedication to the craft saw them included in two significant compilations: “No Legacy” in 2017 and “Metal Assault Mixtape” in 2019. Following the success of their 2018 EP, Tzimani re-released it as an expanded edition in early 2020. This reissue featured two cover songs from W.A.S.P. and Dio, along with their original 2017 demo, aiming to reach a broader audience in anticipation of their next major release.

Despite the relentless touring from 2017 to 2019, the pandemic brought an unexpected slowdown for Tzimani. From 2020 to 2023, the band entered a dormant phase, with limited activity and sporadic performances across California. During this period, however, they remained active in the local scene, using the time to write, record, and finalize their highly anticipated debut album.

As Tzimani prepares to re-emerge, they aim to reclaim the respect and recognition they earned in their early years. Their upcoming 2024 release “I Feel Fine” promises to capture the essence of their relentless energy and innovative sound, heralding a new era for the band. With a legacy of electrifying performances and a sound that bridges the past and future of metal, Tzimani stands poised to make a significant impact on the music scene once again.

Join Denver, USA’s Siege Perilous as they embark on a journey through the annals of history and myth with their latest single “Across the Rubicon”. The single comes from the upcoming EP “Creation’s Call”, which is being unleashed on August 23, 2024. The single is inspired by the legendary crossing of Julius Caesar, this epic anthem transports listeners to the brink of destiny, where the fate of empires hangs in the balance. Vocalist Shaughnessy McDaniel comments:

“This was one of the first songs we wrote for the EP. This was a fun opportunity for me to get to write in Latin which I hadn’t done in a while and to reconnect with some of my friends from the academic world. I’ve always thought that the story of Julius Caesar and the fall of the Roman Republic was fascinating, so getting to tell that epic story in a new format was a genuine delight and I think fans will really enjoy the combination of metal and historical storytelling in this one, channeling bands like Sabaton while forging our own pathway.”

With its thunderous drums and soaring vocals, “Across the Rubicon” captures the drama and intrigue of one of history’s most pivotal moments. As guitars blaze like the fires of war and basslines march in unison, Siege Perilous paints a vivid portrait of ambition and defiance, inviting fans to witness the turning of the tide. This single will captivate power metal fans and history buffs alike and is sternly recommended for fans of Iron Maiden, Wind Rose, and Alestorm.

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that Creation’s Call is a blast. Siege Perilous has succeeded in creating what I would call Epic Power Metal for the Working Man. They don’t waste your time with overlong symphonic interludes between tracks, melodramatic narration, or overproduction that tests the limits of your sanity. The band gets right to the point and pulls you into their epic tales of heroic daring immediately. This is a nice breath of fresh air and if this EP is anything to go by, Siege Perilous has a great future ahead of them. Yes, this could be considered power metal but the no-nonsense approach and urgency to the songwriting makes this release absolutely worth checking out for those of us in the NWOTHM scene. Plus, it’s really just a lot of fun. This one is highly recommended. THENWOTHM SCORE: 9/10” – The NWOTHM

“[Betrayal of the Dracolich] was one of my favorite metal EPs of 2022” – Harry Cane Twisted Mind Radio

Proggers SHUMAUN Releases Video For Instrumental Masterpiece “Anxiety and Daydreams”

New Album “Opposing Mirrors” Out Now!

Featuring An All-Star Lineup of Drummers – Thomas Lang (Peter Gabriel, Paul Gilbert), Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats), Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation)

(L to R) – Jose Mora: Bass, Farhad Hossain: Vocals, Guitar, Keys, Tyler Kim: Guitar

Shumaun, the progressive rock band from Virginia, USA, has gained recognition for their intricate compositions and emotive soundscapes across their last three albums. They have recently released their fourth album “Opposing Mirrors,” which features guest drummers Thomas Lang (Peter Gabriel, Paul Gilbert), Marco Minnemann (The Aristocrats), and Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation).

Today, the band releases their latest music video for the instrumental single “Anxiety and Daydreams.” This six-minute track highlights their progressive songwriting, blending post-rock and heavy-metal influences to create a distinctive and compelling sound. Here, the band discusses the creation of the single and its accompanying video.

“This track is easily my favorite instrumental I’ve written. It really takes the listener on a journey through several moods. It’s also our first attempt at a proper music video. The basic plot involves the band wandering through the woods playing their instruments while comically running away from scary figures they encounter—characters clearly inspired by the twin girls in ‘The Shining’ and Pennywise from ‘It.’ We’re a bunch of goofy dudes, so we decided to inject some humor into this video and not take ourselves too seriously.” adds vocalist/guitarist Farhad Hossain.

“We filmed in the video for “Anxiety and Daydreams” on a ridiculously hot day, with mosquitoes eating us up,” said bassist Jose Mora. Guitarist Tyler Kim added, “We had to abandon the shoot after setting everything up just to get bug spray.” Despite these challenges, the band persevered, and it turned out to be a fun experience.

The album features material that will definitely resonate with prog fans, but Shumaun believes their music is accessible to all music lovers, blending technical impressiveness with deep emotional impact. It is recommended for fans of Rush, Porcupine Tree, and Dream Theater.

“US prog trio Shumaun blend progressive musical inclinations with arena-sized choruses on powerful new song Some Memories.” – Prog Mag

“Lead vocalist and guitarist Farhad Hossain channels his admiration for rock legends like Rush and Tears for Fears in this modern yet nostalgic track (Opposing Mirrors).” – Metal Insider

“heaven is waiting to delight all real music lovers with SHUMAUN, with their authoritative masterpiece ´Opposing Mirrors´. ( 9.5 points )” – Saitenkult

“Favourite songs are the multi-faceted opener that even features a folk-rock accordion phrase. I love the head-banging hook on That Which Turns. This is a real driving-in-the-car anthem that gives a generous nod to latter-day Fates Warning. Beyond Reflection is a modern prog ballad with some joyous guitar work at the end. Anxiety Day Dreams is an instrumental for hazy summer days, whilst the closing Porcelain Trees is another multi-headed beast that spins from a poetic lullaby to tech-metal! However, the absolute gem is Some Memories which packs a giant hook, a killer riff and a great keyboard solo into its compact four minutes. One of the best songs Shumaun has ever written. So yes, Opposing Mirrors is another success for those of us who love melodic progressive rock/metal. Four out of four, and still counting!” – DPRP.net

““Opposing Mirrors,” rocks the house down, slapping the forward ground and driving the heart of the hardness.” – The Median Man

“The opener ‚ The Perils Of Amnesia ‘ already pushes the previous limits of the SHUMAUN cosmos: At the beginning, a subtle drum computer and lovely vocals whisper your ears, until a break plunges you into an almost folky whirlpool of percussive rhythms and brisk guitars. A great chorus puts the crown on the whole and because of the sheer variety, you can hardly believe that nine minutes can be over so quickly….What remains is the feeling of having listened to a very special album by a very special band, with the certainty that this pleasure will probably be denied to so many ignorant forever. But that shouldn’t be the case…” – Obliveon – 9.5/10

“Shumaun, continuing on the independent path of absolute autonomy, remain a precious secret for anyone who is moved by everything that the wider field of progressive rock/metal promises. With a multifaceted bond of thought and emotion, with a tamed technique that harmoniously serves the goal of expression and with a deep humanism in the themes of another great album, they are waiting even for those who are late, to share with them a new link of their precious chain.” – Soundcheck Network

“If I should summarize this album, then I’d say that a more accessible and atmospheric laden variety of classic era Dream Theater would give quite a few clues in the right direction. So if that sounds intriguing, this is an album that you might want to investigate.” – Progressor.net

Montreal, QC – July 18, 2024

Streaming Now! Phoenix’s JUPITER CYCLOPS’ New Album “Age of the UFOnaut”

Set to release their debut album “Age Of The UFOnaut” on July 19th, 2024 from Rockshots Records, Phoenix, AZ’s Jupiter Cyclops is an electrifying blend of energy, rockin riffs, catchy powerful vocal melodies, and contagious grooves. Featuring scene veterans Aaron Peltz (Downthesun, On a Pale Horse), guitarist Dustin Lyon (Opiate for the Masses), bassist Jake Melius (Big Wheel Stunt Show), and drummer Kyle Eades (Old Fashion Assassin), the quartet’s influences of classic rock and NWOBHM is sure to please fans of Clutch, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and more.

“The album is a journey through our minds. What we have created was born out of our experiences and influences. It has an overall rock feel with a metal tinge, and a little acid trip mixed into it all.” adds the band.

Exploring UFO sightings, conspiracy theories, interstellar demons, and the hidden parts of your mind, this is an album full of groove sludgy riffs, and a fresh take of blending stoner rock, classic heavy, and 70’s proto-metal. Fans will fall in love with tracks such as opener “Doomed”, an in-your-face fast-moving rocker fueled by conspiracy theories and paranoia to “Down From the Inside”, a classic tune about dismantling the system from within, all layered upon a sweet cake of riffs to “Chemical Voodoo”, a trippy song with a sludgy swinging guitar about the classic woes of drug experimentation to album closer “Way Down Below” featuring a booming guitar riff followed by thundering drums and bass, capped off with lyrics about the consequences of bad decisions.

Hailing from Tennessee, USA, Quiescent Mantis is geared up to unleash primal fury with their debut album “Here Comes The Swarm” produced by Yanic Bercier (Quo Vadis, Gone In April) at WaveTransform Recording Studio and due out on July 19th on Exitus Stratagem Records. The genre-defying release blends elements of hardcore, thrash, death, and metalcore into a whirlwind of relentless aggression.

“With this album, it truly shows not only how we come together as musicians but as storytellers. This album is all the best elements of thrash metal and science fiction horror movies put into one single package. ‘Here Comes The Swarm’ is the sound we created to release the swarm to the world.”

The band continues to explain that their goal is to give listeners the thrill of discovering metal for the first time. The writing process for this album was fueled by their collective stress, frustrations, and the challenges we all face, all brought to life through heavy, groovy, and relentless music. Each song is its own beast, crafted to evoke intense emotions and a sense of discovery.

Lyrically, the band draws inspiration from science fiction films like “Alien”, infusing their music with underlying themes and a touch of humor. Jordan McKenzie spearheads the lyrical compositions, weaving together narratives that reflect the struggles and triumphs of everyday life. The album artwork is a look into the hive and the queen mantis and what she has done to the humans taken back to the hive welcoming (if you can call it that) to the swarm. The album is recommended for fans of Orbit Culture, Havok, Power Trip, and Pantera.

Streaming Now! Quebec City’s ONCHOCERCIASIS ESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENOSCOPY Slamming Death Metal EP “The Fallen Lament”

New EP “The Fallen Lament” Out July 2024 – CD and Cassette From Stillbirth Records / Gore House Productions

L – R – The Popuko – Guitars, Drums, Bass, Backing Vocals, Alice Simard – Guitars, Drums, Jesse Agiomamitis – Vocals

The wait is over for fans of Quebec City brutal slam band Onchocerciasis Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (OxE) as the band is set to unleash their fourth record “The Fallen Lament” digitally on July 19th and CD on August 9th from Stillbirth Records / Gore House Productions (SBR is a GHP sublabel).

Before the EP officially streams on all platforms, the band has teamed up with Decibel Magazine for its full-stream premiere HERE.

With this EP, OxE is doing what they’ve always done, simply better. They don’t want to stray too far from their original death metal DNA, but there’s always going to be progression in some direction. The band comments:

“This record marks our longest gap between releases, which isn’t something we had in mind, but great art can’t be rushed out the door, and while it may have taken some time to materialize, I’m certain that this record will be everything fans have wanted and then some, because it certainly was for us. Each album is a learning process and I feel as though these new tracks we’ve got, more than anything else we’ve made, have taught us invaluable lessons about who we are as people, and just how much we love music and the creative process.”

“The Fallen Lament” is designed to be both a cerebral and visceral experience that the listener can enjoy at home with a nice pair of headphones, and marvel at the complexity and immensity of the music. Or as a conduit to switching your brain off and using these songs to push through a workout at the gym. This duality makes the album accessible to a wide range of listeners, from dedicated audiophiles to casual fans seeking an adrenaline rush.

“The Fallen Lament” features artwork by The Popuko, whose personal illustration perfectly encapsulates the EP’s cosmic horror theme. Theep is recommended for fans of Deathspell Omega, Artificial Brain, and Devourment.

In this, their twenty-five minute, nine-track offering that is akin to standing in a bucket of water and attaching yourself to a car battery, The Rotted Plinth of Sachiel is a full-on assault on your senses that is sure to test the endurance of even the most seasoned veteran of fringe, extreme metal sub-genres.” – Distorted Sound Mag (2021 – The Rotted Plinth Of Sachiel)

“They may come across as a novelty act trying to be extreme for the sake of extremity, but OEGD are here to subjugate you. Give them five minutes, and they’ll bludgeon you into submission. Recently unleashing their new album “At What Cost” this past May on Punishment 18 Records, Fort McMurray, AB’s Supermodel Taxidermy announces they will be hitting the road for show dates in Saskatchewan and Alberta, which includes performing alongside legendary Montreal punks Ripcordz in Lethbridge. (dates listed below).

Upcoming Shows:
Aug 1 – Prince Albert, SK – Prince Albert Exhibition – info
Aug 3 – Edmonton, AB – Rendez Vous Pub
Aug 4 – Lethbridge, AB – The Slice w/ Ripcordz – info

With their new album “At What Cost”, Supermodel Taxidermy delivers an electrifying blend of intense riffs, powerful vocals, and unbridled energy that will leave listeners craving for more.

“If you haven’t checked out the album yet, we think it is going to exceed the expectations of our early listeners while also adding dynamics with new elements that we decided to enforce all over the record. Things such as Cheney’s crushing vocals. We do a lot of back-and-forth vocals on this record. This record was made to catch your ears with its intense guitar hooks, heavy drums, and catchy bass lines all while keeping your attention to the lyrical topics at hand.” adds the band.

Lyrically, the majority of this album looks at death; a lot of the writings question the cause and effect of vices and the wrong choices that can be made throughout our lives. Musically, this album is fast and heavy as hell. Supermodel Taxidermy wanted to have it throwing left hooks repeatedly, there are not many moments on this record when it gives you a break.

The band was formed after an overwhelming response to the EP “A Whorer Story”, which was intended to be a one-off solo record, and since then they have been staking a claim for themselves in the local scene. The album, ten tracks coming in at just under half an hour, was produced by Rob Lawless and mixed/mastered by Terry Paholek, showcasing the band’s commitment to delivering an exciting listening experience. This thrash metal and hardcore punk collision is recommended for fans of Iron Reagan, Dayglo Abortions, and Slayer.

“it’s fun and catchy, it’s crazy fast and just makes you want to throw yourself into walls.” – The Metal Crypt

“At What Cost is one richly impressive and increasingly addictive release. It looks like SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY is coming for the world and the cost? Sheer pleasure!” – The Ringmaster Review

“blends skate punk with elements of thrash into a lethal concoction that slaps you in the face as it runs by. The atmosphere they create is explosive; a mix of punk rock energy with thrash level instrumentals. Their sound is reminiscent of Bad Brains or Minor Threat, but with a harsher bite. The amount of authentic punk energy Supermodel Taxidermy crammed into this record is almost unbelievable, and when combined with the instrumental elements of thrash, its tone is almost deadly. Energetic and emphatic, the band’s raw mix of chaotic energies serves them well on this record. There is no real lull in energy at any point within this record, proving that if Supermodel Taxidermy can do anything, it’s bring in the heat.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Punk rock and thrash when combined can elevate the energy to that youthful exuberance that is hard to resist. Supermodel Taxidermy lean into their love of those styles on At What Cost, creating an enthusiastic platter that channels its messages in short, solid songs that will get the hordes moving. Could be the best skater soundtrack to bust out those rad, death defying moves for 2024.” – DeadRhetoric

0 DERELICT Posts Vocal Playthrough For “Infinite Dread” Off New Album “Versus Entropy” Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 17, 2024

DERELICT Posts Vocal Playthrough For For Dread Off New Album “Versus Entropy” Out Now!

L-R – Eric Burnet – Vocals, Guitar, Max Lussier – Guitar, Vocals, Sébastien Pittet – Bass, Tommy McKinnon – Drums

Returning after a 12-year hiatus with their breakthrough and highly anticipated album “Versus Entropy” unleashed this past June, Montreal, Canada’s Derelict are sharing their latest vocal playthrough from frontman Eric Burnet for the track “Infinite Dread”:

Burnet comments on the playthrough:

”Infinite Dread is about how social media, the news cycle, and algorithms have taken over and monetized our attention spans, creating massive profit for tech and media companies, and infinite dread for everyone else. I included a little nod to Glen Benton of Deicide at the beginning of the playthrough because while I was preparing to record it, there was a clip in the metal media of Glen essentially saying in an interview that musicians didn’t look very metal anymore and wore black-rimmed glasses and hats. I thought that was funny because that’s what I wear in my everyday life, but I thought it would be additionally funny to promote a song about social media bullshit and chaos by commenting on a casual comment someone made in a video as if it mattered at all. I love Glen, he’s a huge vocal influence of mine, and I figure he’d probably get the joke. I really hope he likes my hat.”

Watch and listen to the vocal playthrough for “Infinite Dread” at https://youtu.be/yv5tzxkx-oU

Derelict‘s latest album “Versus Entropy” is a testament to the collaborative synergy between Burnet and guitarist Max Lussier. Each song on the album is a joint effort, with contributions from bassist Sébastien Pittet and drummer Tommy McKinnon adding layers of complexity and depth.

Unshackling their brutal melodic technical death metal, this full length as been a long time coming as it unfolds in two distinct chapters, the first four songs can be considered a pure evolution of what they did on 2012’s “Perpetuation”. It is then separated by an instrumental piece “Attunement” that offers a breather and a bridge to the last four tracks that feature probably the band’s most brutal, southern, thrashiest, and old-school prog death songs ever written by them.

Lyrically, the album delves into both global and personal themes, from climate change and social injustice to introspective explorations of identity and emotion. “Versus Entropy” was produced by Burnet and Lussier, mixed and mastered by JF Dagenais (Kataklysm), with the album artwork done by Cate Francis.

Burnet adds about the album:

“Existing fans of Derelict will recognize that it’s us right away. We play technical death metal with lots of melody and vocals that are more on the clear intelligible side (for death metal). That said, we let ourselves experiment and explore with this album. 2012’s ‘Perpetuation’ was full steam ahead. It didn’t have a single clean passage. While we are very proud of that album, we did not want to do that again. We wanted an album that hits hard, breathes, and ends before you get overwhelmed. We were heavily influenced by the structure of Gorguts’ ‘Colored Sands’ album, where they put a long instrumental piece as the fifth track of a nine-song album. We set out to do something similar and wrote our first full-band proggy instrumental song with ‘Attunement’. It serves as a bridge between the two halves of the album. The first four songs probably resemble the Derelict people are most familiar with, but even within that, there are more dynamics and variations. After Attunement, the second half experiments even more. Dans Les Dents is Max’s first song on lead vocals and is probably our most brutal song to date. Spectrum challenges conventions with more of a bluesy/southern metal sound, but the lyrics are about celebrating differences within masculinity by making space for all kinds of identities. The song Derelict is very thrashy and also very cheesy. It’s an ode to the band’s history and I really didn’t hold back on the cheesy and sentimental lyrics. And finally, The Escapist, another sung by Max, is very old school and progressive. You can definitely hear Max’s Death and Atheist influences there.”

“Derelict are back with a brutal, technical track, “Versus Entropy.”… The new record is nine tracks long and takes on many themes about the diverse and complex human experience, all while showcasing how ripping and heavy their riffs can be. This song is a great first foray into the heavy and nuanced layers they will bring with this release.” – Decibel Magazine

“As song beginnings go, the one at the outset of “Spectrum” is especially electrifying, an amalgam of rapidly quivering strings, savage percussive bursts, and feverishly swirling and wailing guitar solos by Max Lussier and Eric Burnet. The turbocharged intensity stays high with the appearance of vicious snarls and rabid howls, coupled with weaponized drum attacks and swarming riffage, but the song reveals a new dimension as singing joins in with the snarling. There’s more of Lussier‘s soloing too, a head-spinning romp, soon followed by a slithering and menacing guitar arpeggio, as well as further episodes of harmonized singing and fang-baring tirades. The soloing and the singing does bring in elements of “Southern metal”, and gives the song a very distinctive personality.” – NoCleanSinging

“Versus Entropy is a great blend of the band’s influences in old school death, thrash, and prog/technical death metal. Combining their life experiences with world issues and industry matters (Re: Trevor Strnad), Derelict’s June 21st self-released album is a testament to the continuation of a major Canadian death metal project that is worthy of note as it really seeks to show the band’s remaining fervour for quality production and expression along with current world matters that strike a chord with the members, having lived a generation of life away from the grind, only to return with new perspectives and tastes.” – Metal Epidemic

“What is in the water in CANADA! I swear they have been putting out some of the sickest bands and albums this year! Derelict has stepped up after twelve years with their latest self- release “Versus Entropy” with 9 tracks of traditional Brutal Tech Shred!! Displaying every bit of refined talent through each track. I personally enjoyed track 5, Titled “Attunement” an instrumental right in the middle of the record, makes perfect sense and helps cleanse your palette for the rest of the album. We get that speedy, yet melodic guitar shed throughout all 9 tracks sure to impress any musician and fan of tech metal. Grab your copy” – Keeper Magazine

“An album to seek out for those who tend to enjoy a more technical take on a hard, tight and firm variety of extreme metal.” – The Viking In The Wilderness

“You would think with Canadian Tech death you would know everything that there is to know about the style right… Wrong, Derelict has only put out a few albums but each album is really a Great Masterpiece of the tech death world while still showing off that you don’t need to be Tech death 100% of the time. Every riff serves a purpose, every lead sounds so perfect for the song. Everyone in the band absolutely has technicality and musicianship to an absolute but they know how to write songs at the same time and you match that up with fantastic production and you have one of the standout Tech death albums of 2024. Seriously if you need tech death that is not just pure Tech death give Derelict a chance.” – Heavy Debriefings

“It is speedy, brutal and yet still melodic, inventive in arrangement (especially ‘Attunement’) and well produced. Every instrument is cleanly and clearly discerned and the cymbals are easily listened to without overpowering anything else…. no hesitation in awarding Derelict 9/10… Also, fucking ‘Spectrum’ though. The perfect blend of technical ability and groove. Fucking hell.” – Ever-Metal
