Australian gothic/modern metal act VICTORIA K unveils their new single “Incubus”, taken from their forthcoming third studio album “The Pleasure of Sorrow”. The release comes ahead of a busy October for the Melbourne-based band, who will support Katatonia and Paradise Lost on their upcoming Australian dates.
Following the previously released “Oh So Weary” and “Take It All”, the new single offers a further insight into the band’s evolving sound, bringing together the atmospheric depth of gothic metal, modern heaviness and a more adventurous approach to songwriting. With influences ranging from Spiritbox to Evanescence and Lacuna Coil, VICTORIA K continues to explore the space between melody, intensity and electronic experimentation.
“Incubus” explores the difficulty of letting go of relationships that have lost their meaning, and the emotional conflict between holding on to familiar memories and accepting the need to move forward. Written during a challenging period in Victoria Knight’s life, the song now reflects personal growth and acceptance.
That emotional contrast carries through to the music. Ethereal passages and atmospheric textures give way to heavier, more energetic sections while a brief, impressionistic piano interlude adds to the track’s dreamlike quality. Rather than following a conventional structure, “Incubus” moves naturally between moments of introspection and intensity, allowing the arrangement to develop alongside the emotions behind the lyrics.

The release also comes at a significant time for frontwoman Victoria Knight, who recently appeared on Season 15 of The Voice Australia, bringing her distinctive vocal style to a wider national audience.
These developments form part of an important new chapter for VICTORIA K. Their forthcoming album, “The Pleasure of Sorrow,” expands on the gothic and progressive metal foundations of their previous work, incorporating elements of modern metalcore, hardcore and electronic music. Produced by Lee Bradshaw with mixing and mastering by Lance Prenc, the record reflects a more personal and exploratory direction for the band, both musically and lyrically.
VICTORIA K will also return to the stage this October for a series of Australian shows alongside two established names in international metal. On October 10th, the band will open for Swedish progressive metal act Katatonia at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre, before joining British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost as special guests for three dates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

BIOGRAPHY:
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, VICTORIA K has carved out their place in the gothic and progressive metal scene through soaring vocals, atmospheric arrangements and a distinctive approach to storytelling. Drawing inspiration from mythology, personal experiences and a broad range of musical influences, the band has continued to evolve their sound while retaining the melodic intensity that has defined their work from the beginning.
VICTORIA K first attracted attention with their 2019 single “Lacuna”, distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Warner Music Group (Australia). The track introduced audiences to the band’s musical identity and paved the way for their debut album, “Essentia”. Around the same time, they made their live debut supporting Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie at Melbourne’s Croxton Bandroom, an important early milestone that helped establish their presence on the Australian metal scene.
“Essentia” showcased the band’s versatility through tracks such as “Forsaken”, “The Haunting” and “Matrix”, moving between darker gothic atmospheres, expansive melodies and more energetic compositions. When the pandemic interrupted their initial live plans, VICTORIA K adapted by performing a studio concert that was subsequently released as “Essentia – Live Isolation Concert”. Once touring resumed, the band embarked on an extensive run of Australian shows, performing across major cities and regional venues.
In 2023, VICTORIA K released their second studio album, “Kore”, a concept record inspired by the Greek myth of Persephone. Drawing on frontwoman Victoria Knight’s Greek heritage, the album incorporated lyrics and chants in Ancient Greek, combining mythological storytelling with the band’s established gothic and progressive metal foundations.
The following year brought further developments, including a heavier reinterpretation of Madonna’s “Frozen”, released in April 2024. The band also shared the stage with Blind Guardian and Katatonia in Melbourne, adding to a live history that has seen them perform alongside established international metal acts.
Alongside her work with the band, Victoria Knight participated in Season 15 of The Voice Australia, bringing her vocal abilities to a national television audience and introducing her artistry to listeners beyond the metal community.
VICTORIA K are now preparing for the release of their third studio album, “The Pleasure of Sorrow”, scheduled for 2027. Representing a new creative direction, the record expands their gothic and progressive metal roots with elements of modern metalcore, hardcore and electronic music. Produced by Lee Bradshaw and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc, the album explores themes of loss, identity, mortality and personal transformation through a combination of intimate songwriting, heavier arrangements and electronic experimentation.
The first singles, “Oh So Weary”, “Take It All” and “Incubus”, offer an introduction to this evolving sound, revealing a band increasingly willing to experiment with different musical textures and approaches while maintaining its characteristic atmosphere and emotional depth.
October 2026 also marks an important period for the band’s live activity. VICTORIA K will support Katatonia at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on October 10, before joining British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost as special guests on their Australian tour, with performances in Brisbane on October 18, Sydney on October 19 and Melbourne on October 20.
With a growing catalogue, an expanding musical identity and a series of high-profile live appearances, VICTORIA K continue to develop their place within the contemporary metal landscape as they prepare to introduce the next chapter of their career.
