the way that Karkaos infuses all of their elements that make it a standout record. This is a band that can strike hard and fast if they want to, and on a number of occasions bring out some rather pleasing, death metal-induced heaviness.

0 Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life – Album Review: Karkaos – Children of the Void (Self Released)

  • · Karkaos

The 12 tracks of Children of the Void take you on a symphonic journey, a journey filled with pace & intense metal riffs blended with soaring melodies. The mix of female vocals against the death metal growls, the super-fast drum beats, the screaming guitar solos & action packed orchestral elements really push Karkaos to another level.

Think the guitar style of Children of Bodom with the brutality of Arch Enemy & the melodic nature of Epica but with their own unique sound.

The EP is now available as of May 12th on iTunes, Spotify and all major online retailers. In support of the EP, vocalist and illustrator Karim Terouz has put together a time lapse video painting a mural of the release’s cover artwork to background samples of their new tracks.

“‘These are some of the best random, visual motifs on the net altered to flow with the strokes and sounds of our new EP” comments Terouz.

In additional news, those local to Montreal are invited to the band’s FREE entrance CD launch presented by Hennessy at Le Plateau Lounge (901 Rue du Square-Victoria) on May 26th. THE RISING FEW will be joined by friends Po Lazarus opening the event with an acoustic set. The launch will also be in a gallery-like setting with a hand drawn replica of the massive mural painted by THE RISING FEW vocalist Karim Terouz (watch here) up for auction along with installation art. Plus on location at the event, THE RISING FEW will be joined by The Vocalist Magazine, the Bell Media documentary show that highlights Montreal artists on Bell Fibe TV.

About “Adult Entertainment”:

Cairo born singer-songwriter, Karim Terouz, fronts the now expanded THE RISING FEW, a culturally diverse group of Montreal musicians from scattered points of the world (Haiti, France, Syria, Canada, Brazil, Armenia and Egypt) that seem to converge in their shared love for melodically constructed, Springsteen inflicted rock and roll storytelling.

With their new EP, ‘Adult Entertainment’, the follow up to their 2014 debut album “Sinners On St-Laurent’”, THE RISING FEW have transitioned from their beginnings as a folky local singer songwriter/backing band to stadium-worthy rock for the world’s global mainstream stage.

Delusional behavior is the main theme driving this new EP’s lyrical and musical content. Songs like “Big Boy Games” illustrate the act of treason while ‘’The Sinking of The I’m Alone’’ depicts the historical sinking of the Canadian schooner the ‘’I’m Alone’’ during the prohibition era. Other songs like the hypnotic “Try Try Again” flirts with the delusion of failure while the subtle ‘’Lights and Shadows’’ tackles melancholy in love-loss, as you cannot fight without loving. The generous EP also contains 2 additional bonus tracks.

“It was GO BIG or GO HOME! We’re all recent immigrants to Canada and in a time where cultural differences are threatened, THE RISING FEW take the chance to promote their unity, by tackling these issues and presenting them in classy, colorful, adult contemporary rock.” says Karim Terouz.

Track Listing:

1. Try Try Again (Gonna Need A Helping Hand) (4:24)
2. Gullible (4:08)
3. The Sinking of The I’m Alone (3:22)
4. Big Boy Games (2:52)
5. Save Yourself (2:52)
6. Lights And Shadows (5:16)

Montreal, QC – May 17, 2017

For fans of  Ghost, Mastodon, Opeth, Agent Fresco

Montreal’s ECKMAN DREDGE Premiere Debut Single “Get Away Closer’ On PureGrainAudio

The mysterious mind of Montreal’s Eckman Dredge is finally being revealed with the debut of his first single “Get Away Closer” premiered on PureGrainAudio.com. The track off his forthcoming debut self-titled album produced by Glen Robinson (Voivod, GWAR) with mastering by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Muse) and is planned for release later this fall 2017.

“On behalf of myself and the wonderful musicians I serve with, thank you for engaging with our music. The opportunity to connect with people is why we do what we do. Love always!” – Eckman Dredge.

Listen to “Get Away Closer” at the the following link: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/eckman-dredge-unveils-stream-of-new-single-get-away-closer-exclusive-premiere

To Eckman Dredge, the world is a strange and dangerous place. But those of courage can break through its placid surface and peer at the naked mystery of life. They can open their eyes and escape the dull monotony of an existence lived as it is served. They can reach out and hold firm to that which lies beyond; pulling themselves along. And what do they see out there? A chance, an opportunity. A burning moment of singular choice that can reveal a path of discovery beyond the shackles of assumption.

Welcome to the journeys of one who lives beyond. These are the experiences of a man; of a warrior wandering the planes of greater realities. This is the journey of Eckman Dredge. For him, and those like him, there are no guarantees. Nothing is given. But out here there is hope; a march towards revelations that lie beyond the horizon. His music; built from a world beyond the one we know; let it take you. Let it push you beyond the limits of yourself. Join him as he plunges headlong into the unknown. Out here the risks are great and deadly. But ahead there is light. Just ahead there is the brightness of day. And that is where we are headed. So sit up, take heart, and follow him to a place beyond the stars.

As Eckman Dredge continues his journey, his experiences find rhythm through a band bearing his name. They pull his message from their instruments and envelope those with an ear for it. One of their first performances where they will preview Eckman Dredge‘s material will be in Montreal on July 17th at Piranha Bar supporting Cave of Swimmers.

Show Dates:
July 17 – Piranha Bar – Montreal, QC w/ Cave of Swimmers

Biography

Edmonton’s own Protosequence offer a rush of groovy guitar parts met with story-filled lyrics and serene, landscape-sized instrumentals that roll like hills into a valley.

Protosequence is a reference to the original genome where all life began — much like the band, which existed in principle before they even had a presence. Each of the members were lying in wait to be activated and become the strain that is now Protosequence. Kyle Hunter (guitar) was constantly crafting near-complete songs that were ready to be realized. It did not take long for Kyle and Logan Vars (drums) to finally meet. It seemed as though there were two projects destined to combine into a singular effort to form the final line-up for the band: Logan (drums), Kyle (guitar), Parker (guitar), Joseph (vocals), and Ryan (ex-bassist). Members have a long history in the Edmonton music scene, playing in bands like Anubian and In The Midst Of A Murder since the early 2000s.

The band draws influence from acts like All Shall Perish, August Burns Red, and The Black Dahlia Murder. With a foothold on their influences, they root their music in technicality while layering emotional, yet gruff vocals weaved into every track. The band transitions seamlessly through djent riffs, grinding drums, and groove elements, making their sound versatile and ever-changing. Each live performance is crafted like an album played from front to back, with each song bearing a story and painting the room like a canvas — leaving the colours and experiences on each audience member.

The band is currently planning to release another EP as a follow up to their 2016 release ‘Schizophrene’ that will be announced early 2017.

Shared the stage with: Ne Obliviscaris, Protest The Hero, Black Crown Initiate, The Schoenberg Automaton, Archspire, Our Last Crusade, Death Toll Rising, Tylor Dory Trio, and The Noumenon

Festivals and tours: Metallion 2017, Breakdown For Break-fest 2015, The Greasy BC Tour 2017
