I went into this open minded but Jupiter Hollow truly shocked me with this EP. The guys have a refreshing sound, very different to what I usually listen to. Musically, it’s written really well and I can definitely tell that the duo are going places.

The world needs heroes now more than ever. In the shape of Montreal’s larger-than-life metal warriors Valfreya, it has them! And in their striking vocalist Crook, they have their own Valkyrie!.

In 2009, vocalist Crook wanted to play something akin to folk metal, but even more aggressive and fast paced. Combining Valhalla and the Norse goddess Freya, the band has been creating music and lyrics to revolve around stories inspired by Norse mythology.

Orchestral and death metal with a hint of folk music, the prolific Valfreya have released two well-received EPs (‘First Chronicles’ and ‘Acoustic Chronicles’), an impressive 2012 debut album entitled ‘Path To Eternity’  via Maple Metal Records and have just unleashed their second ‘Promised Land’ independently on January 13, 2017.

“The album is a journey through a lot of emotions and situations, giving life to a host of varied songs, each with a different sound and personality. The story behind the album is about Eric The Red discovering America and how he defies the Gods, but pays a hefty price for that defiance. ” says Valfreya about the release. “It’s a step-up in sound quality and has more intricate guitar parts and better-written music that with every listen you can discover parts you hadn’t noticed before. On top of that we have an original sound and songs! We want to give more to people that enjoy good riffs!”

Just as you hear on record, Valfreya promises the fans a unique live experience. What you hear on the album is what you get on stage. All vocals, whether clean or screams, are done by the band members both in studio and live. They dress in a fantasy-like Viking fashion to go with their story-telling, which gives an interesting visual aspect, while delivering the instrument-playing with precision. Valfreya has shared the stage with Arkona, Dark Tranquility, Nekrogoblikon, Necronomicon, Koorpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr and Insomnium.

‘Promised Land’ is available on iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, Bandcamp and all online major retailers.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 31, 2017

Greece’s Ritual of Odds Signs To Swimming With Sharks Records; New Album ‘Ritual of 9’ Out Feb 3rd

Melodic death metal outfit Ritual of Odds from Greece have signed a worldwide deal with Swimming With Sharks Records. The band’s third studio album ‘Ritual of 9’ was recorded at StudiOdds Recording Studio and was mixed & mastered by John Mcris. The band takes influences from bands such as At The Gates, In Flames, and Carcass and have been called the ‘Melodic Death Metal Masters of Greece’ by Axis of Metal (Canada).
Label founder Noah “Shark” Robertson (Motograter/Ex-The Browning) states: “Patras, Greece… What a great find! The moment I heard “Ritual of 9” I knew this band was something special. They give me the same feeling I got the first time I listened to At The Gates or In Flames. They have all the elements of a melodic death metal powerhouse!”
‘Ritual of 9’ will be available worldwide on Friday, February 3rd via Swimming With Sharks Records and can be pre-ordered at www.swimmingwithsharksrecords.com
The first single, and title track “Ritual of 9” is streaming here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utDjaDxVW4Y

Ritual of Odds formed in 2003, originally under the moniker Existence Edge, but changed the name in 2005 and began work on their ‘Building up the Underverse’ Demo. In 2008, the band played this material live on stage for the first time and received great reviews, encouraging them to begin working on their debut full length album ‘Underverse’; which was released in early 2010. At the end of that same year, the band recorded their 2nd full length album ‘God is an Atheist’, which was very well received. The band toured Europe and the US, in support of the release, performing with bands such as OMEN (USA), PAUL DI’ANNO (UK), SEPTIC FLESH (GR) and NIGHTRAGE (SW). The band is often described as Melodic Death Metal, but many influences can be heard. Ritual of Odds have forged a unique sound by infusing elements of thrash, horror and epic metal into their own, creative brand of melodic death.

Stoner Doom Grunge Hybrid LUNG FLOWER Posts Psychedelic Music Video ‘Beyond Burnt Out’

Vancouver’s sludgy stoner doom grunge hybrid LUNG FLOWER have posted their new psychedelic music video ‘Beyond Burnt Out’ in support of their latest album, the seven track ride ‘Effigy’ released during April 2016. The album is the follow up to their 2014 EP ‘Death On The Crowsnest’ and 2012 debut album ‘Under A Dying Sun’.

The band comments on the video:

“The video was mostly shot in an abandoned house on the outskirts of Abbotsford BC. We chose this location because it was a perfect symbol for the meaning of the song, the purposely literal lyrics conveying the everyday struggle of the modern day city dwelling man. Burning the candle at both ends eventually leaves you hollow and empty, like most of this house was. We felt that this house, with its disrepair, a sad shadow of what it probably once was, served as our metaphor for a person trying to walk the edge of the abyss, the edge of alleviation and addiction. Someone who is quite literally Beyond Burnt Out.”

To watch ‘Beyond Burnt Out’, please visit the following link:

‘Effigy’ is available on Bandcamp at the following link: https://lung-flower.bandcamp.com/album/effigy

“Lung Flower are increasingly causing a stir in the Canadian metal underground scene, thanks in large part to their most recent release Effigy” – PureGrainAudio

“Vancouver’s very own modern day hybrid with equal parts Nirvana and Sabbath with just a hint of Soundgarden for good measure” – Canadian Beats

“Their guitarist is just rocking crisp riffs and some great leads. Their bassist is just a monster of a man and even more of a monster on the bass! His thick grooving bass lines fit perfectly with their drummer who adds a classic metal vibe to the whole sound.” – Hammer Records
