Hailing from Winnipeg, MB, DARK MESSIAH is a band of marauders blending the elements of metal, metal and more metal for the perfect soundtrack to the apocalypse. Their soul cleansing sound is the perfect thing to gracefully walk you through the collapse of a failed capitalist world burning to ashes in front of you. When it’s all said and done, Dark Messiah’s music will elegantly grasp you and escort you through the excruciating, agonizing abyss that is forever known as the gates of hell.

About:

Hailing from the frozen tundra of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is a band of metal marauders. A group of 5 each marking a point on a pentagram.

In the summer of 2015, guitarist Jonathan Hayward started forming a band that would be inspired by the great classic shredders of decades past. In a time and place where metal had become a sort of melting pot, a band slowly emerged and each member came together to turn back the clocks and rediscover the roots of heavy metal. That band would become what is now known as Dark Messiah.

Hayward recruited a drummer, a bassist and a rhythm guitarist and together their started to craft their sound that would make the band. On recommendation from the drummer, Stephen Chubaty was given an audition to become the vocalist and main lyricist to give voice to what Dark Messiah would become.

The band jumped onto the scene quickly. A very established bar that had been around about as long as rock n roll itself “The Zoo” announced it was closing. Jonathan and Stephen had never played the iconic venue before so the band set out to try and book a gig. Even though the group did not have a name yet and had barely been off the ground for a month, they decided to push forward.

With the gig fast approaching the need for a name was getting frustrating. In a conversation with a friend Hayward was asked what kind of band he was trying to help put together. “A classic metal inspired band, but one different than anyone else. a band that would bring back what once was.” He said. His friend responded with “Kinda like a chosen band.” as a joke. “Yeah but an evil one. Like a….dark messiah.” the name was solidified and the gig was officially booked.

In preparation for this goal the band worked hard together to make the show happen. Conflict and personality clashes led to the band’s first bassist to quit. They found a replacement to join the band a mere 12 days before the show. With original parts written and personalized by each member Dark Messiah took the stage.

In the end it was deemed a success. The band would go on to play more shows throughout the next couple of months but also had some more lineup changes. Lawrence Reimer was brought in to play rhythm guitar as the first member had to follow a different path. Lawrence’s drive helped push the band to it’s next level. Perfectly balancing the already established sound.

The band was shook to the core when it was forced to use the services of a fill in drummer due to unforeseen circumstances.

Even with all these issues arising the band never cancelled a show and never missed a beat. They eventually recruited the naturally talented Robert Schau on drums. A few months later the band was forced to once again replace a bassist right in the midst of recording. Lagg Walker joined the band and helped finish the E.P. The release debuted at #4 on Reverbnation for metal in Winnipeg and the next day made it to number #2. Now the band is stronger than ever and has their eyes set on touring throughout Canada in support of the E.P. come summer of 2017.

“Vocalist Stephen Chubaty has a gruff roar which compliments the music perfectly; his vocals combined with the band’s musical style gives a vibe somewhat reminiscent of Xentrix.” – Moshville
“Ultimately “Dark Messiah” is a nasty, down and dirty metal recording with a pissed-off attitude and a real sense of “Knock down the fucking door now you pinheads!” urgency!! Groove metal or not, “Dark Messiah” has got some set of balls of it!!! If you liked your metal big, bad, and ugly then you are going to want to check this one out.” – Heavy Metal Time Machine

BIO:

The ‘M’ in Dark Messiah stands for metal, metal and more metal! Hailing from the thunderous tundra of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Dark Messiah formed in 2015 when guitarist Jonathan Hayward started a band that would build on the great work of the metal giants of the past and take this hellbound sound forward into the future!

Hayward explains the origin of their name. “We are called Dark Messiah because it’s like a metaphor for resurrecting something great and old. We feel like we’re going back to the roots of metal and bringing it back from the dead. We have a sound that’s inspired from classic metal and hard rock from decades ago and we don’t think there’s enough bands out there doing that with original music so we tried to do it ourselves!”

Influenced by mostly by thrash metal along with names like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, Lamb of God more. Dark Messiah are bringing forth their self-titled debut EP.

Hayward explains the genesis of the ‘Dark Messiah’ EP. “The release is a concept for what would happen if a Dark Messiah rose up and destroyed the world. It’s a five song story. ‘Dark Messiah’, the songs and EP is who we are and tells the tale of an evil entity being revived from the dead. ‘No Soul To Sell’ is about humanity as a whole and individuals in general trying to sacrifice themselves to him. ‘Eliminate The Enemy’ is the Dark Messiah’s intentions and initiative of the army he recruits. ‘Death From Above’ is him taking over the world. ‘Your Final Breath’ is him killing you!”

Only just a year old, Dark Messiah is experiencing their evolution as it unfolds, their sound is based on a foundation of catchy old school riffs, but innovation and groove to call it their own headbanging experience.

The digital version of their debut self-titled EP was released on Nov, 27 2016 and is now available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Google Play and Deezer. Physical CD will be available on January 20, 2017 via Bandcamp and CD Baby.

Out Now! Horror Metal MALACODA Unleash New EP ‘Ritualis Aeterna’

Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers MALACODA (named after a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’) return with their new six track EP ‘Ritualis Aeterna’ out now as of December 2nd. The EP is the follow up to their well-received 2014 self-titled debut album. Packed with dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century with intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

Vocalist Lucas Di Mascio comments on the EP:

“After a long journey filled with equal measures of happiness and misery, large helpings of hope and despair, and a pinch of euphoria and rage…. we can finally say “It’s here!” Enjoy the tracks, and we’ll see you on the road soon…. These six tracks are full of character and are definitely a sign of things to come.”

‘Ritualis Aterna’ is now available digitally on iTunes and on CD at MalacodaMetal.com plus can be heard in full stream at http://www.malacodametal.com/music.

Plus the band’s new music video inspired by the since canceled Showtime TV show by the same name ‘Penny Dreadful’ can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTJfr292o7g.

The video was directed, produced and edited by The Laundry Design Works. The song explores the themes of the show, each section of the song being a different character’s personal struggles. Just as the show paid homage to horror’s roots, the band’s music video pays respects to classic horror films, using only practical effects to achieve everything from the dark corruption of the blood in the veins of the possessed woman, to the sped up and jerky motions the band members display as the song crescendos.

1. Penny Dreadful (5:34)
2. I Got A Letter (4:37)
3. Pandemonium (3:39)
4. The Wild Hunt (4:20)
5. Linger Here (2:23)
6. There Will Always Be One (3:47)
EP Length: 24:24

About:

Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s dark gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

As band leader Lucas, who studied Literature and Religion at University explains: ‘Malacoda was the name of a very minor character in the book, a fallen angel who flies around with a small army of demons torturing helpless souls in Hell. From a literary perspective, I found it interesting that he wasn’t merely an evil creature being tortured for his sins, but was given free reign to do what he pleases and takes it upon himself to torture other wicked souls in the spiritual prison that is Dante’s Inferno. I wanted a powerful name that fit not only the sound of the band but also the lyrical themes I touch upon. I wanted something dark, but not something that would be blatantly devilish sounding. The name translates roughly in Italian to ‘Cruel Tail’ and most people don’t see it and think “this band is named after a demon” and see it as something more romantic sounding.’

Like the ‘Inferno’ that inspired their name they forge metal without limits in sonic shapes endless and horrifying in equal measure. Malacoda’s music vision shares much in common with Dante’s, they are unafraid to gaze into the abyss, unafraid to be inspired by the myriad of human horrors within and without. They are not blind to the worlds within them waiting to be born.

Malacoda are about to follow their well-received self-titled debut with the horror-themed ‘Ritualis Aeterna’, which enters this world on December 2, 2016. Festive it most certainly isn’t, magnificent it certainly is. Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!
