About:
Hailing from Alma, Quebec, Trollwar combine the best elements of folk, melodic death and black metal into something vital, potent and uniquely their own. They build on the foundations created by the likes of Finntroll and Amon Amarth to forge fiery folky metal that is distinctly theirs. Even their name could only be theirs as guitarist Steeve Jobin-Fortin says: ‘Trollwar is a name that is catchy and easy to remember. It represents the band’s early direction towards the Folk Metal scene.’.

Following such well-received releases as ‘Bloodshed Forges’ and ‘Earthdawn Groves’, Trollwar are working mightily to forge a new EP ‘The Traveler’s Path’, that will feature their trademark ‘symphony, brutality, darkness, ambiance, and power!’.

All Trollwar’s songs are a collaborative effort, as the bands proudly states. ‘Live the listener can expect something epic…Seven metalheads banging their heads off…epic breakdowns and melodies. It’s harder to move on stage when you are seven strong and play in small venues…but it won’t keep the energy from being thrown in your face from the stage!’.

Trollwar’s lyrics are ‘mainly inspired by books such as Tolkien’s or Lovecraft’s. It can also be inspired by mythological events such as the ones in old European mythologies.’.

The new release will be ‘way darker and deeper than “Earthdawn Groves” but Trollwar is always following the same path. Starting from a blend of blackened folk metal, we worked really hard to develop the melodic and dynamic aspects that forge our sound. Prepare for something really epic. Adding an orchestral aspect to both the album production and live act will be a great phase for us.

Its funny how I started listening to this EP straight after reviewing the excellent Devilment Album by Dani Filth and his cohorts , these guys would fit in perfectly with the Cradle of Filth front mans  merry band of Gothic themed demons live and would be an awesome addition to any Devilment / Cradle of Filth tour!

The album is a hard knocking 13 track ride produced by their drummer Chris Bonavia to continue the band’s reputation of delivering energetic anthems, which has garnered them a loyal following in the Ontario and Quebec scenes.  Since debuting their blend of northern groove and stoner metal with a tinge of hardcore energy on their 2007 self-titled EP to 2009’s full length ‘Born The Wicked, The Fallen, The Damned’, the band has gone on to perform on one of Canada’s biggest outdoor festivals Amnesia Rockfest, headline Fete Nationale in Gatineau, QC plus tour across Canada along with sharing the stage with known bands such as Cancer Bats and Kill Devil Hill.

0 Musicology – Heart Avail – S/T

  • · Heart Avail

Heart Avail is an EP about the pain that comes from the loss of loved ones, which most listeners can probably relate to. It is not only therapeutic for the listeners that are dealing with similar experiences, it’s a great EP to listen to in general, and Heart Avail are definitely a group to look out for.

0 Kingston Music Reviews – Red Cain – S/T

  • November 17, 2016
  • by Asher
  • · Red Cain

The layers that comprise each track are quite interesting, and entertaining. A European Metal sound is definitely there, but there is also a progressive or almost industrial aspect to their sound as well. I am for sure not scared to throw around the experimental Metal sound around with the album as well. The vocals also hit at a few different measurements as well, within the backing and lead vocals.

0 Hellbound – Illyrian – Round 2: Fight

  • · Illyrian

Illyrian impressively fuse such influences as classic thrash, death metal in the vein of Obituary, and a lot of 80s influences into a profoundly impressive package.
