0 Canadian Beats – Review – Shark Infested Daughters – These Tides, Our Tombs

  • November 14, 2016
  • by Asher
  • · Shark Infested Daugthers

Packed full of speedy riffs and crushing breakdowns, fans will have to come up for air with each new track or risk being lost to the depths of it’s beautiful melodies. The musicianship is expertly displayed, immediately intense and surprisingly diverse. The vocals are executed brilliantly, and the dichotomy of Erika Leah’s siren song voice against the pure aggression of Chris Thoresen gives the album an overall feeling of decadent dread.

Calgary Metalfest V Raises Over $7,000 From Live Charity Auction For Make-A-Wish-Foundation Alberta

This year’s Calgary Metalfest, held from September 14-17, saw an incredible historic line up that included ANNIHILATOR, the original line up of EXCITER,  thrash veterans RAZOR and SACRIFICE plus killer sets from THE EXALTED PILEDRIVER, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, GATEKRASHÖR, DISCIPLES OF POWER, THE ORDER OF CHAOS and many more!

With all these performances over 3 nights in Alberta’s largest mosh pit, the festival organizers are no strangers in giving back to the community, using the event since 2013 to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta.

This year’s live charity auction, which is held in between band sets, had multiple offerings and bidding donors that lead the festival to raised its highest ever amount of over $7,000 to help the children.

0 Amps and Green Screens – Fractal Cypher – The Human Paradox

  • November 14, 2016

  • · Fractal Cypher

I was more than impressed with Montreal’s FRACTAL CYPHER and their self-released debut The Human Paradox. They manage to find that perfect balance between esoteric and accessible, and they exploit it over and over. Seriously, opener ‘Lost” is over eight minutes long, but it sure as shit doesn’t feel like it at all. “Endless Circle” is all power and fury from beginning to end, and each one of the members gets a chance to shine.

New EP ‘Frame of Mind’ Out Nov 25th

Show Dates:

Nov 12 – Kingston, ON – The Mansion – info

Ontario punk rockers Excuses Excuses will be releasing their debut EP‘Frame of Mind’ on November 25th and before it drops they are premiering their new music video ‘The Outsider’ via New Noise Magazine at the following link: http://newnoisemagazine.com/premiere-excuses-excuses-outsider-video/#

The band comments:

“‘The Outsider’ is an anthem to those who sit outside of the social norm. It speaks of living life to please oneself, rather than relying on other people’s acceptance. Never let others get in the way of your success. In the video we took a bit of quirky spin on this idea by using the character of the bear to symbolize an obvious outsider from our society. The bear experiences the process of rejection, determination, perseverance, and finally success to demonstrate the ideal of achieving his dreams.”

The trio is also offering fans a FREE download of the track exclusively viaPureGrainAudio.com at the following link: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/excuses-excuses-the-outsider-free-song-download

‘The Outsider’ is one of 5 on the band’s debut EP that focuses largely on events and experiences from their teenage years touching on topics of drug use, family/personal matters, loss, and the uncertain future. The words “frame of mind” discusses the perception of one’s own life experiences and retrospectively looking at it. Holding a mirror up to the worst aspects of one’s life, the EP encourages people to seek different perspectives to attain a better understanding.

1. The Outsider (3:41)
2. Alibis (3:59) [Stream]
3. Rewind! (3:33) [Stream]
4. Frame of Mind (3:43)
5. (Is That) What You Meant (4:36)
EP Length: 19:34

For more info, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/OfficialExcusesExcuses.

About:
Excuses Excuses is a punk rock n’ roll three piece that refuse to listen to any more lies by promising to live an honest life through their music in Oshawa, ON just on the the outskirts of Canada’s Music Capitol Toronto, ON. The band is calling for people to take responsibility for their actions and Kyle (vocals, guitar, ex-Stained Glass Army), Trevor (bass, ex-Stained Glass Army), and Jay (drums) write thoughtful anthems. Since February 2016 the band has been developing their own version of punk rock inspired by bands like Green Day, Billy Talent, and Foo Fighters.

Kyle lights a spark for the band by crafting the initial melodies and structure for each song and brings it back to the team to craft the final details. Their goal is to write timeless material that speaks to disenfranchised outliers that are seeking solace through lyrical poetry and catchy riffs. Excuses Excuses write songs that are destined to be performed live with an emotive and captivating show that focuses on the crowd and ensuring their enjoyment until the last song.

Melodic death metallers CHARIOTS OF THE GODS have unleashed their new lyric video ‘Resurrection’ in support of their new album ‘Ages Unsung’, which was released this past September. ‘Resurrection’ is one of ten shredding tracks recorded at The Grid with legendary Montreal producer Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis). The album also  features a special guest solo from The Agonist’s Pascal Jobin on the song ‘Into Oblivion’. For this album, CHARIOTS OF THE GODS turned to fans on kickstarter with a pre-order campaign (thank you video) and surpassed their goal of $3,000. The album marks the return of Canada’s first metal band to tour Cuba after a small hiatus and line up change to follow up their 2013 debut album ‘Tides of War’ that was produced by music legend Glen Robinson (Queensryche, Gwar, Annihilator).

The band comments on ‘Resurrection’:

“For the third lyric video, we thought “Resurrection” could be a great addition to our series of singles. The song talks about the rising of beasts ready to set the world ablaze. With the US elections having passed, we felt the themes can somewhat be connected. We went into new territories with this one, but we’re really proud of the turnout. We hope you will enjoy it!”
