0 Kingston Music Reviews – Van Halst – World of Make Believe

  • · Van Halst

Throughout the album the driving force behind each song for me is the vocals from the lead singer Kami Van Halst. If you are a fan of Evanescence then you will be particularly enthralled with her vocals. She really helps and pushes the tones and tempos of each song. “Denying Eyes” shows the acoustical and combination Rock side of Kami’s vocals. Without losing the energy and backing of the guitars in track Kami shifts over from the acoustics to a heavier and stronger tone alongside the electrified guitars.

  • · Gomorrah

Gomorrah are a Canadian three piece that plays crushing deathcore/death metal, laden with strange tones and riffing. Taking cues from the oddness of fellow Canadians Gorguts and Ulcerate, Gomorrah’s ‘The Haruspex’ is an album full of alien melodies and devastating brutality.

NECRONOMICON have a well-earned reputation for quality by releasing material only when ready and satisfied with the outcome ever since their demo entitled “Morbid Ritual” (1992) firmly established their name within the underground. “The Silver Key” EP (1996) led to mainstream recognition on a national level, but their debut album “Pharaoh Of Gods” (1999) and the sophomore “The Sacred Medicines” (2003) did even more to establish the band as a household name in Canada. “Return Of The Witch” (2010) marked the international break-through for NECRONOMICON, and saw them performing at prestigious festivals such as Inferno (Norway), Ragnarok (Germany), and the Barge To Hell metal cruise among others, while sharing stages with acts such as CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR, BEHEMOTH, and MORBID ANGEL, to name but a few. Their steady advance around the globe grew considerably in impact by their next full-length “Rise Of The Elder Ones” (2013). NowNECRONOMICON are more than ready for the next step with ‘Advent Of The Human God’, their latest brutal assaulting soundtrack now available via Season of Mist for North America as of March 25th.

Delivering a lethal dose of symphonic, blackened death at a new height in their long lasting career, which began as early as 1988 with the founding of the band by guitarist and singer Rob “The Witch” in the deep northern part of Quebec, Canada known as the “Fjord of Saguenay”

The Canadian veterans keep their tracks on ‘Advent Of The Human God’ as gloriously epic as furiously massive and harsh. Songs like “The Golden Gods”, “Unification Of The Four Pillars”, “Crown Of Thorns” and “I Bringer Of Light” tell of experienced songwriting and an eclectic wide range of influences that flow into the sound of NECRONOMICON. Nodding to DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH to DEICIDE and SUFFOCATION, these extreme metal addicts carve their own sound out of the much cherished ingredients of brutal dark music.

Vocalist Rob The Witch comments on the album’s release:

“And here it is, our latest chapter in the book that is Necronomicon. The most brutal and at the same time the most atmospherically imbued of the events of what it is to be a divine part of the universe. As part of the great energy we have to understand and take our rightful place in the creation, to open the path so the mass can open their eyes and ascension as spiritual beings toward the future and beyond all matter of the flesh. Now witness the Advent of The Human God.”

Montreal Power Metallers DEMISE OF THE CROWN Post Studio Video Recording New Singles w/ Producer Glen Robinson

Self-Title Debut Album Out Now!

Upcoming Show Dates:
April 3 – Montreal, QC @ Piranha Bar – Wacken Metal Battle Canada – Event info

Unleashing their debut self-titled album earlier this March, Montreal, QC power metal quintet DEMISE OF THE CROWN are wasting no time getting back in studio for the release of new material. Collaborating with award winning producer/engineer/mixer Glen Robinson who has worked with names such as The Ramones, AC/DC, GWAR, Annihilator and Voivod, DEMISE OF THE CROWN are recording two new singles ‘Black Rain’ and ‘Glorius Light’, which the band has posted behind the scenes video for that can be viewed below.

Guitarist Manuel Iradian comments on recording with Glen Robinson.

“Its been a privilege recording our two new singles with heavy hitter Glen Robinson. Our band has definitely been feeling the pressure working with a man with such a tight ear and a sharp stylistic vision. He has this very amicable and humble approach despite his demand for structure and clean lines. I can confidently say that our song writing has matured into something that just works.”

About:
Brandish your weapons and bare your teeth in the battle for new world order with Montreal’s power metal quintet, DEMISE OF THE CROWN. They run the gambit from melodic power metal to hard rock weaved together with soaring solos reminiscent of Eddie Van Halen with undertones of Yngwie Malmsteen. The band’s sound has developed from progressive to a heavy metal band that has a pop format structure to the music in order to lure people into the realm of metal. Through many years of playing music with different people in the Montreal scene and slowly forming the official line up in 2014. Each member have spent their time paying dues in the local community and have banded together with the same goal and vision for a band determined to shake the foundation of power metal.Guitarist, Manuel Iradian writes all the music, then handed off to Kevin “Kevy Metal” (drummer) to dress up each song with his high-speed, galloping rhythms, finally, Darren Beadman crafts the anthemic lyrics rousing crowds to chant along with an anarchistic frenzy. Each song is rooted in all basic human emotions; anger, lust, depression, happiness, death and revenge.

Influenced by headliners like Nevermore, Avenged Sevenfold, Opeth, Pantera, and Faith No More, the band is working their way up the royal blood line to cause chaos right alongside their heroes. They have performed with iconic bands like Hellyeah, Devin Townsend Project, 3 Inches Of Blood, Katatonia and Firewind.
