From the relentless blast beats to the fetid vocals onIntegral, the spine of the Inverted Serenity sound is one of unrelenting heaviness. This alone is enough of a reason for the discerning death metal fan to give this a spin.

Taking our introduction to Canadian trio Like Animals through new EP Feral, it did not take long for their sound to show it matched up to the release’s title; each of its five tracks an untamed slice of noisy revelry and warped imagination and all leaving the licking of lips and a taste for more.

Stoner Thrash Metal BUFFALO THEORY MTL Post ‘Skeptic Knight’ EP Preview

Due Out Feb 26th via Stand Productions

Comprised of members from legendary Quebec bands Ghoulunatics, Les Ékorchés, Arseniq 33 and currently active Vantablack Warship, Montreal, QC based stoner thrash influenced metallers BUFFALO THEORY MTL return to the scene with a new preview for their fourth and latest offering ‘Skeptic Knight’ set for release via Stand Productions on February 26th.

The EP is the follow up to 2014’s ‘Murder Trilogy’ EP and their 2012 full length ‘Heavy Ride’ and was recorded at Indica Studio in Montreal, QC where it was produced by BUFFALO THEORY MTL along with Peter Edwards (Grimskunk).

“We think ‘Skeptic Knight’ is our best material to date and it’s damn heavy as usual. It has a different sounding production that we like a lot. We completed 5 songs for the release. There were lots of riffs just waiting to be completed and it was hard to choose which ones to release first as we are already prepared to unleash another EP by next year to follow it.” comments bassist Gary Lyons.

Featuring five annihilating tracks each with its own eclectic flavour / twist, all will appeal highly to fans of Down, COC, Queens of the Stone Age and Black Sabbath. The band is gearing up for their first single ‘Punishment’ set to hit the mosh pit in the coming weeks with their forged sound of heavy energetic metal.

About:

BUFFALO THEORY MTL is a band of beer chugging, heavy riffing fans for the fans. Attributing their name to a scene from the pop culture 80’s TV show CHEERS (Cliff Claven explains the Buffalo theory of beer to his buddy Norm (explanation here.)) and the MTL abbreviation representing their pride for their hometown of Montreal, these seasoned veterans from the Canadian and Brazilian metal scenes are always ready to set the stage ablaze with their stoner / thrash infused metal for beer lovers around the world.

Comprised of members from legendary Quebec bands Ghoulunatics, Les Ékorchés, Arseniq 33 and currently active Vantablack Warship along with vocalist Anton Parr’s experience in thrash bands in Brazil. BUFFALO THEORY MTL’s passion for metal is truly in the blood of this quintet whose past experiences are a combined amount of over 1300 shows, 15 studio albums along with sharing the stage with bands such as Korn, Marilyn Manson, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies.

The band’s first EP ‘Live In Studio’ was released in 2010 and was later followed by their debut full length 2012’s ‘Heavy Ride’ released via Galy Records, which was then followed by their 2014 EP “Murder Trilogy’.

Now in 2016, the band returns with their third EP ‘Skeptic Knight’ set for release on February 26th via Stand Productions.

The opener “Dreaming of Death” is heavy, brutal at times and epic. “Paralyzed” is another stellar track in the same mold…“An Outsider” should please many fans of progressive death metal.

0 Merchants of Air – Like Animals – Feral (EP)

  • January 22, 2016

  • · Like Animals

Like Animals doesn’t seem to care about genres.  Pop songs with thrash metal riffs, of brutal hardcore with gently rock vocals, alternating with whatever they can come up with.  Tempo and intensity regularly change.  One moment I’m listening to something like Led Zeppelin, the other I’m being punished by Gorilla Biscuits or The Melvins.

OUT NOW! Yukon Power Thrashers SANKTUARY Unleash New Album ‘Winter’s Doom’

L-R: Anders Grasholm – Drums | Cole Hume – Bass | Alan Binger – Vocals, Guitar | Glen Emond – Guitar

Hailing from the harsh and blisteringly cold of the deep far North of Canada’s Yukon Territory situating themselves in the city of Whitehorse (pretty far north, like the Siberia of Canada eh!), power thrash champions SANKTUARY are ready to unleash their latest album ‘Winter’s Doom’ full of fierce and dynamic high speed riffs, catchy hooks, and belted out lyrics for the metal crowds.

‘Winter’s Doom’ is now out as of January 22nd and is fully streaming at the following links plus available on CD and for digital download.

“Winter’s Doom is a big step up for us and a step our homeland of the frigid North directed us in. The vast emptiness and shear mammoth proportions of this landscape lend a very helpful hand in open palm smacking the creative juices right into you. In this album the songs are faster, heavier and all around more to the tune we have always been drawn to. I’m sure all who listen will agree this is our best offering to date!” comments bassist Cole Hume.

About:

Power thrash champions SANKTUARY Hailing from the harsh and blisteringly cold of the deep far North of Canada’s Yukon Territory situating themselves in the city of Whitehorse (pretty far north, like the Siberia of Canada eh!). They have been trekking across the country for the past 6 years to bring their fierce and dynamic high speed riffs, catchy hooks, and belted out lyrics to the metal crowds.

A collective vision that began in high school with a group of like-minded teens fed up with the constraints of mainstream music who wanted to emulate the lifestyles of their favourite bands. Their straight-forward, no-bullshit attitudes shape their signature brand of heavy metal, which has led them to release the full length, 2013’s ‘Something Fierce’ that reached #19 on the national college radio loud charts, 2011’s ‘Tundrastruck’ split with Nova Scotia’s Black Moor and Montreal’s Metallian plus two EPs 2010’s ‘Black Magic’ and 2009’s self-titled.

Members of the band write harmoniously, basing each song off of a key riff from either Alan Binger (vocals and guitar), Glen Emond (guitar), or Cole Hume (bass), and then Anders Grasholm (drums) works his magic on the rhythm of each tune.

2016 see the band’s return with their sophomore album ‘Winter’s Doom’ set for release on January 22nd, 2016. The album features seven killer high speed, breakneck thrash metal tracks inspired by the Yukon’s far North they call home along with other issues such as politics, technology, etc..

“In the title track and album cover we portray ourselves as heavy metal warriors thriving in a habitat where most would perish instantaneously. That’s our homeland, the Yukon.” comments the band.

Stay tuned for what Sanktuary has to offer for fans! Visit their Facebook page for more details at www.facebook.com/sanktuarymetal.

“Divinity are an insanely talented band who’ve just released an amazing album that just isn’t getting the attention it deserves. I was listening to the full album yesterday on my iPod… and “fucking wow” is still about all I can come up with. It’s it’s complex, it’s progressive, it’s deep, it’s brutal, it’s shreddy, it’s hooky, it’s artsy… it’s everything you (I) want a metal record to be. Every musician in the band is top-notch, including vocalist Sean Jenkins with whom I’m especially impressed (this from a guy who ordinarily doesn’t focus on vocals).” – Metalsucks.net

“Canada’s metal wizards Divinity have just released a vibrant, explosive video for “Lay In The Bed You’ve Made,” from the band’s Candlelight Records debut The Singularity.” – Guitar World

“DIVINITY: F*CKING WOW…Divinity definitely make my balls quiver.” – Metalsucks.net

“Technical death metal fans will find Divinity to be a hybrid of several genres that all have a hand in formulating the band’s sonic reverence. From soft piano to sky-raising clean vocals, every attempt is made to show that monotony and predictability is not in Divinity’s DNA.” – Metal Underground

“Divinity is easily among Canada’s elite bands (along with Into Eternity for example) that have that the new ‘Western Canadian’ sound that morphs Death, Thrash, Prog and crazy chops into one sweet package.” – Metal-Rules

DIVINITY is made up of 5 musicians with 4 of them being original members of nearly 20 years of playing together. They’ve been described as Progressive Death Metal and compared to bands such as Soilwork, Strapping Young Lad, Death, and Fear Factory.

Current Line-up:

  • Sean Jenkins – Vocals
  • Jeff Waite – Vocals
  • James Duncan – Guitars
  • Brett Duncan – Drums
  • Keith Branston – Bass

Divinity, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, started in 1997 and began playing live shows in 1999. In 2001, the band released its first EP album called “Intensify” which recieved a lot of local (Canadian) praise after sending in a couple songs to BWBK’s Knuckletrack CD sampler. A music video was released for the song “World of Pain” in 2003 and the band played local shows building it’s show experience.

Fast forward to 2007, Divinity independantly releases their first full-length album called “Allegory” and is picked up by Nuclear Blast Records just 3 months after the independant release. Obviously, this was a major turning point for the band!

In 2008, Divinity took on it’s first major tour by joining the Summer Slaughter Canada tour. This gave them the opportunity to connect to high-calibre booking agents and other acts such as Dying Fetus, Whitechapel, and Necrophagist.

Then in 2009, Divinity spent it’s time creating their 2nd full-length album called “The Singularity” which was released under Candlelight Recordswith a very positive response from numerous reviewers and listeners.

Since the release of The Singularity, Divinity has toured Canada numerous times over and has received countless support and praise from around the world.

The band is currently in the middle of releasing a trilogy EP concept called ‘The Immortalist’ with Part 1 availabe now at all digital music stores, Part 2 coming out in early February and Part 3 slated for a release later in this year.

The Immortalist – Trilogy Overview
DIVINITY have decided to release a full-length album in a different way. They are going to create a 3 part series of 4-song EPs that will develop a full length concept album that they are calling ‘The Immortalist’. The EPs will be released in digital format only to build up to a physical special edition that will contain all 3 parts in one full length CD along with a full digipak of media such as a video DVD and a full color booklet that illustrates the lyrics and The Immortalist storyline.

Each song within the series will develop the storyline of the main character in ‘The Immortalist’ trilogy. DIVINITY will create an online marketing focus on each song for a time period of 6 weeks. This means the Divinity website, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube pages would only promote and discuss the particular song they are focusing on. They will post videos, graphics, lyrics, song meaning, storyline and as much marketing as possible within the 6 week time period for each song.

The overall idea is to have each song they produce for the series to have a focused marketing push on building the storyline of our album concept with a huge build up to the final package that is meant to contain everything to do with the Trilogy along with a few special items to make it worthwhile to own a physical copy.

Where They Are At Now

Recently, DIVINITY decided to put their new album into an Indiegogo campaign to build up funding for the entire recording process of the remaining songs. After a 45 day campaign, they ended up getting around $6000 in contributions and they will be using this money to fund the rest of the recording.

Part 1 of the trilogy has been released on all major digital music stores since April 22, 2013. Part 2 will be released February 5th, 2016. Part 3 is being written and recorded throughout 2016 and is looking to be completed and released this year as well.
