Highlight: #10 on Top 10 – For The Week Ending: Tuesday, July 8, 2014 – Canadian College Loud Charts – (Earshot)
“”Mordrake” should finally drive a stake through the heart of the idea that independent bands cannot produce records equalling those backed by labels. This band from Montreal has come up with an album that in every way equals something coming from Nuclear Blast, Metal Blade or Season of Mist. That goes for artistic packaging, musical quality and just overall professionalism.” – Wormwood Chronicles
“Clad in black and painted in ghostly, skeletal white and gray, Montreal’s Hollow is one of North America’s most deceptively original and subversive underground metal acts today. Exploiting the surface aesthetics of black metal, the band surprises with an abundance of musical diversity and depth.” – Metal Underground
“A primer on how extreme metal ought to sound: adventurous, expansive, daring, and heroic.” – Metal Underground
Boulevard Brutal
“‘Mordrake’ is a superbly crafted album and an exciting listen, so much so I can’t even begin to imagine where these guys will go from here.” – Metal Talk
“…after one single spin of this album, you know what, this is good stuff! Hollow are a melodic black/death metal from Canada and man do they know how to craft tunes and build emotion into this European melodic black metal sounding release.” – Brutalism
“if I will need to choose an album that you can really call Metal album I will name “Mordrake” as one of them. This is a 52 minutes (almost 53) of a Metal storm that resembles a Blitzkrieg War; fast, no remorse and the only thing to do is kill them all. However in our case it’s to make real metal album with no inhibition and I think that HOLLOW did it. Rated Masterpiece” – Metal Temple
“Montreal’s Hollow are anything but. This is a truly solid and substantial piece of metal. Like a crowbar. Or a nail. Or some othersuch that will leave its mark on you. Check out Landscape on youtube. This band are so good they even have the road matching their corpse paint. Symphonic BM seamlessly weaving melodic DM. Clean vocals, choirs, straight ahead metal solos, thrash riffs. Whatever the songs needs it gets. All played with a level of musicianship set to frustrate many a cover attempt to come.” – Rock n Reel Reviews
“Mordrake is simply remarkable, one of the most promethean debuts in a long time and certainly within death metal this year, though Hollow have a sound and presence which you cannot confine to a single genre or singular mind-set. A brilliant album from a brilliant band” – Ring Master Review
“At first listen, I knew this band was a step ahead of the pack. These guys are tight as hell, and create an intense atmosphere with their brutal approach to metal…For only having one guitarist, they’ve certainly got the right one – this dude shreds!!! Hot damn. And of course, as for vocal delivery, you get it all on this album. Nice high black metal-eque screaming, demonic harmonies, and intense gutteral death metal growls.
All of these guys are above average musicians on their own, which is blatantly evident when listening to them play as a band. I would jump at the opportunity to see Hollow play live, and if they’re coming to play near you, I advise you do the same. But more importantly, if you’re a black metal fan, get yourself a copy of Mardrake when it comes out on May 30th.” – Counter Culture Nerd
“Hollow show a lot of versatility and excellent chops on a very promising debut effort.” – About.com Heavy Metal
“Hollow are serious about their corpsepaint and serious about their chops. LetMordrake be the proof in the pudding that these guys are not to be overlooked.” – Metal Bandcamp
“Mordrake is a pretty killer debut LP” – Emurg
– Muzik Injection

Hailing from Montreal, QC, melodic death metal band Hollow has amassed quite the portfolio since its conception in 2009. Conquering audiences across Québec and Ontario, Hollow has became a household name that has showcased in front of industry giants such as Alex Skolnick (Testament), Blacky and Dan Mongrain (Voivod), Stephane Barbe (Kataklysm) and Mikey Heppner (Priestess) .
Their unique look and high-energy stage performances have permitted the band to take part in concerts and events such as Heavy MTL and Trois-Rivières Metalfest along with supporting acts such as VOÏVOD, SUFFOCATION, SWORD, JUNGLE ROT, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, BLACKGUARD, THE AGONIST, BEYOND CREATION, MARDUK, 1349, TYR, ORPHANED LAND, KEEP OF KALESSIN, SUIDAKRA, PSYCROPTIC, ABORTED, PATHOLOGY, AUGURY, etc.
Their first release, “Cynoptic Eschaton EP”, was released in 2010 to critical appraise from fans and media, securing them many shows and a short tour supporting Norwegian act EINHERJER during their first Canadian tour “Dragons Over Vinland”. In the following months, the band entered the studio to record their long-awaited first full-length entitled “MORDRAKE”.
The album features a unique analogue approach towards extreme metal: recorded without the use of any triggers, midi or copy/paste editing, the album features true-to-life performances that bring a breath of fresh air into an over-compressed and digital world. “MORDRAKE” was produced at Uplift Studios by Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope) and co-produced by Dan Lauzon (Entropy) and Hollow.
