We want to take a minute to thank all of our fans who took the time to vote, our friends and family for all the support we have recieved over the years, and the CBC crew for making the Calgary scene so supportive, and welcoming for bands of any calibre. In additional news, has posted video performing ‘Hands Tied’ at this year’s Calgary Metal Fest, which is about a close friend’s imprisonment for a victimless crime and how corrupt the judicial system torments and beats souls senseless. TOV  – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9lNCJj0psU.

About: The Calgary Beer Core was founded by Mark Russell with the goal to get more exposure to Calgary’s great, but ultimately hidden underground music talent. Along with a handful of bands and a lot of work, the Calgary Beer Core has grown into Calgary’s premiere promoter of Hardcore, Rock, Punk, Metal, you name it.The Calgary Beer Core has striven to give back, not just to the music community, but Calgary as a whole. Yearly events like Rock for Tots and partnerships with the interfaith food bank have allowed them to give back to Calgary.

The Calgary Beer Core is also behind the one and only Beer Core Awards, an annual Awards Show that pays tribute to Calgary’s great live acts. Once a year, bands all hope to win the highly prized “Corey” as voted on by their peers.

About TOV: Bridging the gap between metal and rock with help from dual guitar harmonies, pounding drum lines and wide-ranging vocal harmonies, Calgary’sThrone of Vengeance released their EP ‘Live Evil’ on October 19, 2013 that echoes the band’s signature thrash-tinged rock.

“‘Live Evil’ is “a collection of songs based on our experiences in the last two years, covering everything from a close friend’s imprisonment for a victim-less crime to the realization of humanity’s demise to the contrast between good and evil and life and death,” says drummer Trevor Cobb.

“If there’s anything we would like people to take away from the record, it’s that you should be your own person, do what makes you happy, be aware of your world and be real. We have the power to control our own destiny. Together, we are more powerful than any world leader.”

Having shared the stage with numerous legends over the years, including Kill Devil Hill, 3 Inches Of Blood and Steven Pearcy of RATT, Throne of Vengeance is ready to take things to a whole new level with Live Evil. Are you ready for a major ‘bangover’?

“Calgary metal band Throne of Vengeance rule the local rock scene with heart and soul…Recorded with Emmy-winning producer Paul Sabu, who recorded the band’s 2011 debut Flesh Engine and has worked with such names as David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Shania Twain and Prince, it captures Throne of Vengeance’s sound in a huge, warm and oh-so slick way. It’s all pro from the get-go.” – Calgary Herald

“the record follows their 2009 EP Toxic Black Cloud and 2011’s Flesh Engine and delivers the thrash-tinged classic metal for which the quartet is renowned.”  – Beatroute

“One of the keys to Throne Of Vengeance’s energy and drive lies in their passion…masters of their own domain…Their work is solid and I recommend you check them out” – Beatroute Magazine

“Calgary has an amazing music scene, and in my opinion, if you want to listen to great metal music in this city, this is the band that you need to see.” – X92.9 FM

“The band have hit the sweet spot of heaviness and melody that is hard to find. They have had a considerable amount of local success and LIVE EVIL will help them continue to build on that…this piece is rock solid release with excellent production and a good mix and balance of the instruments. The band tapped Paul Sabu (Only Child, ex-Malice) and countless production credits of big name artists like Alice Cooper. The songs range from mid-tempo to quite a bit faster, songs like ‘Hands Tied’ almost creeping almost in that power metal speed zone. The quartet use some gang-vocals a bit to back up vocalist Tommy. The band also will throw in a hint of acoustic guitar once in a while as well adding to the rock end of the spectrum.” – Metal-Rules

“…they joyously pay homage to their influences while creating their own distinctive sound…there are no lowlights and no filler tracks – each song is a mighty entity unto itself and worthy of your ears.” – Extreme Metal Television

“Whether you are a die-hard metal fan, or prefer rock n’ roll, Throne of Vengeance is the perfect blend of both… a great album to put on if you’re going to get together with friends, have a barbecue and drink beer. It feels like a summer album, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in feel-good thrash rock.” – Vancouver Metal

“The band is perfect for fans of classic metal such as Dio, Iron Maiden and Megadeth.” – Canadian Music News

““Live Evil” features seven hard rock songs including my two favourites, “Live Evil” and “Terminal Velocity”. One thing that I really enjoy about this album is that guitar reminds me of classic metal. You can feel the passion and drive in the songs.” – Canadian Beats

“Their shows are energetic, well-attended and the crowd absolutely loves them…I’ll babysit those maniacs anytime!..One of the few metal bands out there who are 100% convincing in that they genuinely LOVE what they do, and it shows.” – Philly Roach, Owner/Operator – The Distillery Rock & Roll Ballroom, Calgary

About:

Founded in 2009 as a six-piece and named after the Soviet dog who became one of the first animals to travel to space, the band unleashed a self-released album in 2010, then hit the road, sharing the stage with the likes of All Shall Perish, Kataklysm, Necronomicon and Unleash the Archers, before temporarily backing away from the spotlight.

Driven by a thirst for evolution, LAIKA spent two years constructing and writing its upcoming full-length album, ‘Somnia’, filling it with melodic hooks, ominous keys and lyrics that are bound to get stuck in listeners’ heads to an almost maddening degree. Brace yourself, as this fall; LAIKA will hit the scene hard, just like they did all those years ago.

“Laika combine the Gothenburg sound with a North American groove and intensity, the result is a giant slab of kick ass melodic death metal. Sommia the groups’ second full length release consists of 8 finely crafted songs and a dreamy and eloquent intro track called “The Restless Mind”. There some great guitar work on “Somnia” especially on tracks like “Fidelity” and the albums lone instrumental “Dream of Nothing”. The musicianship on this release is all-around solid. Vocalist Jordan Dorge has a powerful growl that cuts through the bands layered sound and the rhythm section add some crushing heaviness…a damn good melodic death metal album. If you like the classic Gothenburg sound do yourself a favor and pick up the latest release from Laika.” – Extreme Metal Television

“This Canadian sextet play old school inspired death metal, with synthesizer elements thrown in with the more melodic and heavier guitar parts. Laika, is not solely focused on playing fast and crazy, as their music contains tons of substance for starters, and their music is as unique as possible with synths used as a chilling backdrop to their progressive death metal.” – Explicitly Intense

“For an unsigned and independent band with only one other album under their belt, this really is a phenomenal release, and it really shines a light on how promising Laika’s future could be…the melodies and hooks they employ are the shining stars here.” – Metal Observer

Taking their name from a Clive Barker short story and shifting gears from jazz (which most of the members studied at Vancouver Island University) to progressive metal, the band combine poly-metric grooves, aggressive screams and soaring vocal melodies to push the boundaries of modern metal music with technically impressive musicianship to follow up their 2011 debut album ‘All Too Human’ (also available for free download at the following link http://thebodypolitic.bandcamp.com/). Their emotionally charged songs incorporate an element of playfulness that has lead THE BODY POLITIC to stand out in a vast metal crowd and to perform opening slots for Tesseract, Protest The Hero and Scale The Summit plus multiple Western Canadian tours with their evolution.

“The Body Politic share a similar desire to take their art in new directions. Opening track “Vitam Agere” is the perfect intro to the EP, short ,modern and original, and something that would work well in film soundtrack. Second track “Armature” shows the band to be technically adroit but not at the expense of song-writing. “All Hands” mixes precision with power, while “Swing For The Fences” shows The Body Politic are very much making music for the 21st century. “Colqhoun” has a raw power to match its melodies. Finishing with the fine “Irradiate,” it’s clear that The Body Politic are a band with the potential to cross over to a wide audience indeed.” – Hellbound

“Watch these prog-metal masters as they rip through “Armature,” a song off of the band’s forthcoming self-released EP, Egressor… If you’re into the likes of Periphery and Protest The Hero, this song will most certainly get your blood flowing. And in all the right directions, you dig?” – Gunshy Assassin

“The Body Politic combines staccato rhythms with catchy vocal melodies and blends them in a killer progressive metal package. “Egressor” their new six song EP is a short but extensive slice of modern metal…The production on “Egressor” is top notch and the musicianship…there is no denying that “Egressor” is a great album…Go get your grubby little hands on The Body Politic’s Egressor” – Extreme Metal Television.

“The feverish energy and charisma that floats through your speakers while you listen to Egressor will leave you enlightened with a sense of purpose and motivation.”- Damnation Mag

“Wow! Yes, this is what I said, when I started listening to The Body Politic, as their latest ep “Egressor” comes at you like a locomotive engine, yet puts you at ease with their melodic vocals and melodic guitars.” – Explictly Intense

“technical brilliance. This is an EP of six cuts that slash twenty minutes long that brings together all the ingredients for modern and advanced metal.” – Noizz Webzine

“These guys show an uncanny understanding of how to balance disparate elements into a cohesive, pleasing whole. In fact, for an unsigned band, their ability is beyond exceptional and surpasses that of many signed acts. . . This band has a real chance to become a leader in the progressive metal field.” – Mike Korn, ReviewYou

“All Too Human shows off the whole band’s abilities, with futuristic sounds and some obviously talented musicians, they’re already way ahead of some of their contemporaries.” – Emma Newlyn, Indie Music Reviewer

“The Body Politic deliver an incredible live performance; you’ll be groovin’ and throwing down before you know it. . . With the perfect mix of hard rock and progressive metal, the songs off their latest album, All Too Human are irresistible attention-getters.” – Clayton Rourke, The Minds Eye

“A magnificent beast . . . something much more than your everyday progressive rock band.”  – Wonderful, Bravo! Review

“All Too Human is all in all a solid album. A strong debut that showcases TBP’s talent and diversity . . . it’s a good thing when I hear every sonic element perfectly balanced on a record.” – MusicEmissions.com

“Make no mistake, these are virtuoso musicians, mind boggling performers and very, VERY funny dudes to hang out with at a party. I’m serious. They tell jokes.” – The Soundbox Recording Studio

About:

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist  Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music that Chimaira, Machine Head, and Hatebreed would be proud of, and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter.

With three full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title,” “Sandwich,” and their holiday album, “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” – the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

After a successful 2013 that saw these touring ninja warriors hit the road for multiple shows on the ‘Our Tour Can Beat Up Your Tour’, ‘Blow Your Fingers Off’ summer tour, their late summer dates with American Head Charge plus appearances at summer fests that included Rockapalooza, A2 Fest, Breast Fest Biker Bash, and Dirtfest.  The band finally took a break in last months of the year and held a successful crowd funding campaign (thank you video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSeQHqMCfJI), where they are now currently in studio recording their follow up to 2011’s ‘Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs’.
