Canada’s Maudiir Unleashes Double Digipak For EPs “La Part du Diable” & “Le Temps Peste”

Includes Bonus Track: Sid Vicious Was Innocent (The Exploited cover)

Montreal’s one-man-black-metal-band Maudiir created by F. has unleashed two EPs since its inception. The debut “Le Temps Peste” was issued in 2020 and within a year later, the sophomore recording “La Part du Diable” was unveiled this past February.

Both are different in sonics, but similar in delivery of their creative veined black metal. The first EP featured more straightforward black/thrash elements whereas Maudiir‘s second release experimented more with progressive influences. Overall, both demonstrate intense, dark music from the mind of F. with lyrics that draw on societal reflections, religion, and the environment.

Today, Maudiir announces the release of both EPs on limited edition double digipak, which features a bonus cover track of The Exploited’s “Sid Vicious Was Innocent”.

F. aka Maudiir comments:

“I felt that combining the 2 EPs on one digipak would work well to offer an interesting listening experience, showing the progression of the music and sound between Le Temps Peste and La Part du Diable. Maudiir is very much a DIY family affair, so again my brother handled the visuals and did a beautiful job. It’s a really nice package to get into the world of Maudiir. Plus there is also a special version of The Exploited song “Sid Vicious Was Innocent” that’s going to surprise people.”

Maudiir is recommended for metalheads looking for something new, especially fans of Carcass, Darkthrone, and Skeletonwitch.

Digipak order is available on https://maudiir.bandcamp.com.

Canadian College Radio Loud Charts: #1 – The National Loud Chart – For the Week Ending: Tuesday, February 16, 2021 (Earshot)

“As “The Slumber” begins, a jittery, dissonant bass riff, underlaid by droning guitar and soon joined by F.‘s rabid snarl, creates an immediate feeling of incipient and dangerous derangement as it quivers above a neck-popping back-beat and a febrile bass line.” – No Clean Singing

“Feel free to imagine Maudiir as a mix of early Metallica and Enslaved, Darkthrone, Diamond Head, Skeletonwitch, Martyrdöd, Skitsystem and fellow French Canadian technology users/abusers, Voivod. Sitting at home with no shows to attend or play for a year has provided F. the opportunity to work in isolation and create the next chapter in the Maudiir story, La Part du Diable. The five songs within continue stirring the influence pot with the result being simultaneous sweet and sourness, light and darkness, uplift and despondency.” – Decibel Magazine

“If you’re tired of all those black/thrash bands that sound too much like each other, this is a little different. Just solid blackened thrash with a strong footing in traditional heavy metal that calls for repeat plays.” – The Metal Crypt

“If this is what Maudiir can achieve in only 24 minutes and 24 seconds, bring on a full-length. If you’re into Skeletonwitch, Voivod, or Ihsahn, give release this a listen!” – 4/5 Metal-Rules.com

“It’s The Crowning Hour that closes out a banger of an EP. Where the guitars blur reality and the drums hammer so hard, the brain begins to ache. The tempo is fiery, and the passionate delivery is joyfully received again.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“The first thing you notice about Maudiir‘s new EP, La Part du Diable, is just how good the record sounds. Crystal clear production on a blackened thrash release might not be at the top of every listener’s shopping list, but here the production absolutely works for F.” – Sentinel Daily

“What’s so refreshing with this E.P. is the flourishing evolution of styles and the sheer confidence in which the music is played. Aided by the crisp and professional production, this is a genuinely exciting release.” – The Razor’s Edge

“Maudiir entertain those who like black metal but also are open to prog and old school heavy metal. The mix is pleasing and the whole thing works very well.” – CGCM Podcast

Canadian thrash legends Anonymus have reunited with band founder Marco Calliari for a live-off-the-floor video performance of “Tierra” from the band’s latest 12th album and first Spanish release “La Bestia” (winner of two GAMIQ Awards). The track is sung in both Italian and Spanish.

Calliari‘s departure from Anonymus in 2003 was to pursue a solo career that has so far released three albums: Che la vita (2003), Mia dolce vita (2006), and Al faro est (2010).

The band comments on the video reunion:

“Marco was in the band for a long time, we were friends as young kids and during high school was when we decided to start Anonymus. We learned our skills together doing covers initially, then moved on pretty quickly to make our own songs. For us, it’s always a great pleasure to have him come in to sing and play with us here and there. He left the band to fulfill his career in another genre (worldbeat/ pop). He’s a hell of a performer and we remain on the best of terms with each other. So to have him come in and share some moments with us is very natural. We celebrate our past having him in this live performance, while on the other hand, we focus on the future on writing new material for our next release.“Tierra” is very special because it’s the only song that we wrote in both Italian and Spanish. This is a tribute to our families who had to make sacrifices in their lives and leave their families and countries behind for a better future and a new home. It strikes a chord when you see all these immigrants doing the same in Africa, South America, and the rest of the world. Our parents ended up having a nice story about their immigration, which is not the case for everybody. This song is a song about the newfound land.”

Watch “Tierra” on YouTube – https://youtu.be/V333tZVtf7Q

Anonymus‘ twelfth studio album “La Bestia” (Bam&Co Heavy) was released in June 2020. The album is the band’s first Spanish album that follows their discography of both French and English releases. Many metalheads and critics asked the most relevant question, why an album in Spanish? The answer… since Drummer Carlos Araya is Chilean-born, and Oscar (lead vocals and bass) and Dan Souto (guitars and backing vocals) are sons of Spanish immigrants, it was only inevitable to make a record in that language that 3/4 of the band is fluent in.

The tracks on “La Bestia” were produced mainly by guitarist Jef Fortin as well as Colin Richardson who also produced 1999’s ‘Instinct’ and Jean-Francois Dagenais (Kataklysm) who produced 2006’s ‘Chapter Chaos Begins’. The album also features the bilingual song “Violencia Versus Violence” with the participation of Carlos Maldos of Lethal Creation (MX) and Arno Dhenain Le Bourhis of Black Bomb A (FR) along with a second bilingual track “Tierra” with Marco Calliari singing in Italian.

EPKAbout:

Anonymus is a Canadian thrash metal band that explodes on stage with each presence, that pulls you in with its passion and that yells at you with corrosive and violent texts that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Since their first release in 1994, Anonymus has made its mark on the Quebec music scene. From the beginning, the group has been well received while demonstrating its brutal sound and technique that has continually evolved over the years. Oscar Souto (vocals, bass) Daniel Souto (guitar, vocals) Carlos Araya (drums), Jef Fortin (guitar since 2006) and Marco Calliari (vocals, guitar from 1994 to 2006) have since widely traveled the roads of their country, participated in the deprivation of Mononc’Serge and continue today to ignite stages everywhere they go. These veterans of the metal scene continue to proudly carry the torch after 20 years of chaos and barbaric music.

Forever hungry for metal, everyone in Anonymus brings ideas to the table. Sometimes it is a whole song or just the beginnings of one, yet together the band works to create a full thrashy anthem from the pieces, working on it until it is complete. The music always comes first, and when the ambiance is formulated, the lyrics, which come from a personal place and from current events, can be added.

Unstoppable and indestructible, inspired by bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax; Anonymus is nothing short of the powerful, aggressive and technical thrash metal that they have been refining for decades exemplified on their impressive discography of both French and English releases, which includes: “Ni vu, ni connu” (1994); Stress (1996); Instinct (1999); Daemonium (2002); Academie du Massacre (2003); Chapter Chaos Begins (2006); Musique Barbare (2008); État Brute (2011); Envers et contre tous (2015); P.O.M.M.E (2017); Sacrifices (2019); and their first-ever Spanish album La Bestia (2020) due out June 12 via label Bam&co Heavy.

Today, Anonymus does not need a presentation. This institution of the Quebec metal industry has been offering for twenty-six years, a passion for dark notes and unrivaled power. The offer is still valid. With more than 1500 career shows under their belt, Anonymus is completely in their element when performing in front of fans, they offer only their absolute best ensuring the crowd is moving. Having shared the stage with metal great such as Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, and Kataklysm at festivals such as Heavy Montreal, Montebello, and through international tours, they are no strangers to a wild show.

ANONYMUS FOLLOWS ITS PATH, AGAINST ALL ODDS!

“Anonymus mix together some of the best from Slayer and Lamb of God. Allowing for some of incredibly strong extreme metal on La Bestia. If you need any proof, tracks “Sobrevivir” and “Violencia Versus Violence” are easy stand outs for melding some spectacular sections and making the most of the band’s sound.” – Metal Injection

“a savage barrage of brutality from Anonymus, featuring break neck speed thrash that’s in your face and intense. 9/10” – Metal Gods TV

“La Bestia hits bluntly and brutishly. It certainly lives up to it’s name, the beast.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“What a musical violence! Thrash lovers would do well to give this album of Spanish Canadians a listen.” – Arrow Lords of Metal

“Thrashy heavy stuff with a Sepultura-like groove and probably having the lyrics in Spanish help with the vibe… the catch? They’re from Quebec! ” – WORT 89.9 FM – Mosh Pit Radio (Madison, WI)

“The album has a very “bouncy” vibe that really gets the foot tapping and despite the album sounding overall angry, this anger comes off as fun. There’s no way in hell that anyone would stand still when the band plays anything on this album live. If you’re like me and usually more into the classic thrash sound and its close derivatives and feel like trying something else, La Bestia might just be what the doctor ordered.” – The Metal Crypt

Out Now! Canada’s Maudiir Unleash Dark Progressive Black Thrash w/ New EP “La Part du Diable”

“La Part du Diable” Out February 19, 2021

Riff-driven with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals, Montreal’s one-man-band Maudiir created by F. unleashes a new progressive black thrashing EP “La Part du Diable”, a full year after releasing the debut EP “Le Temps Peste”. The intense, dark music comes with lyrics that draw on societal reflections, religion, and the environment.

F. aka Maudiir comments:

“I had great reviews for the first EP “Le Temps Peste”. I think the new EP “La Part du Diable” expands on the first one and brings more progressive and thrash elements. I also added distortion to the bass guitar this time around, which I think adds a Voïvod feel to the songs. All in all, it’s a pretty interesting and unique listen. I also wrote everything alone. Starting on guitar, adding drums, then guitar leads and textures, bass, and finally writing the words and recording them as I am advancing through the vocals. In the case of “The Crowning Hour”, I had a structure done with rhythm guitars and drums, but when I started adding bass, I realized the structure needed to change. Basically, the bass riff made it clear to me what was the verse in the song. Pretty much the same thing happened with “The Slumber”; switching things around when I got to the bass parts. So after that, I thought “why not try to write a whole song on bass?” That experiment yielded the track “Spirit of Sulfur”. That was very interesting for me; getting out of my comfort zone trying to figure out guitar parts that would complement the main bass lines.”

Maudiir is recommended for metalheads looking for something new, especially fans of Carcass, Darkthrone, and Skeletonwitch.

“La Part du Diable” is out now as of February 19th and available on the following digital platforms:

Canadian thrash legends Anonymus’ unleashed their award-winning (GAMIQ Awards) and 12 studio album “La Bestia” (Bam&Co Heavy) during June 2020.

Canada’s Maudiir Summon A Blackened Thrash Slaughter With “Spirit of Sulfur” Off “La Part du Diable”

Single Premiere via Decibel Magazine

New EP “La Part du Diable” Out February 19, 2021

Montreal’s Maudiir has a new single out, “Spirit of Sulfur” being premiered on Decibel Magazine HERE.

The second single is from the upcoming EP “La Part du Diable” due out on February 19, 2021.

The fourth of five tracks, “Spirit of Sulfur” is where it starts to get more experimental on the EP. Very bass-driven, the contagious harmonies flirt with thrash and punk, and it then develops into a kind of space rock instrumental section. The abrasive lyrics are about deceitful leaders grinding down their countries.

The biggest benefit to a solo project is being unrestricted in style and creative direction, something that is fully embraced in Maudiir’s work. An aggressive blackened thrash base is complimented with upbeat punk drumming and a heavy focus on the bass parts, resulting in a fresh take on modern metal. This uncommon attention to bass riffs resulted in this single, as Maudiir explains:

“On the first single, ‘The Slumber’ I was switching things around when I got to the bass parts. After that, I thought “why not try to write a whole song on bass?” That experiment yielded the track ‘Spirit of Sulfur’. That was very interesting for me; getting out of my comfort zone trying to figure out guitar parts that would complement the main bass lines.”

Riff-driven with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals, “La Part du Diable” is the second release from the one-man project to follow the debut EP “Le Temps Peste” released in February of last year. The intense, dark music comes with lyrics that draw on societal reflections, religion, and the environment.

Maudiir is recommended for metalheads looking for something new, especially fans of Carcass, Darkthrone, and Skeletonwitch.

The entire EP “La Part du Diable” releases on February 19, 2021 on all digital platforms.

Track Listing:
1. Fracture (4:50)
2. The Slumber (4:57)
3. The Fortunate Few (4:54)

About:
Maudiir, coming from the underbelly of Montreal, Quebec, Canada is an outlet for observations on obedience and industrialization riddled with man-made waste. With 80s heavy metal influences alongside black metal and punk, Maudiir is unique in sound; hauntingly dark while being corrosive and galloping.

Maudiir is a one-man black/thrash metal project that formed to be musically independent. Starting with guitar, F. works his way through each sullen track, adding drums, recording all the colorations and textures of the guitars, adding bass, and finally writing the words, very often at the same time they are being recorded.

The pessimistic aura of the music combines with lyrics about consumer society, religion, science going awry, addiction to technology, and environmental decay.

Maudiir released their debut EP “Le Temps Peste” during February 2020 and now returns exactly a year later with the follow up “ La Part du Diable”
due out February 19, 2021.

Creating an intensely dark sound, “La Part du Diable” was inspired by reactions from people to the health crisis created by Covid, the political climate in the US, and conspiracy theories. It’s a riff-driven  EP with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals, mixing thrash metal and black metal with progressive elements, giving it a unique sound and feel.

“I would say that with “La Part du Diable”, I’m going into a slightly more progressive and thrash sound than on the first EP. I also added distortion to the bass guitar this time around, which I think adds a Voïvod feel to the songs.”

F. (ex-Deeply Confused, Tears for the Dead Gods) is also currently leading prog/thrash metal outfit Trinity Blast.

Maudiir is F.

– 30-

“As “The Slumber” begins, a jittery, dissonant bass riff, underlaid by droning guitar and soon joined by F.‘s rabid snarl, creates an immediate feeling of incipient and dangerous derangement as it quivers above a neck-popping back-beat and a febrile bass line. But the flashing thrash riffs that come into play give the song a different and more glorious and heart-palpitating dimension. And the multi-faceted nature of the song becomes even more evident when the drums start spitting bullets and the riffing creates a manifestation of savage, blazing chaos, driven to further heights of spectacle by an incandescent guitar solo. F.‘s vocals rise to greater heights of throat-splitting madness as the feeling of perilous tension returns, but that turns out to be a prelude to another eye-popping solo and another dose of thrashing ebullience at the finale.” – No Clean Singing

“Crunchy, razor-sharp guitars, thundering drums and good vocal work all delivered with heaviness. If you’re tired of all those black/thrash bands that sound too much like each other, this is a little different. Just solid blackened thrash with a strong footing in traditional heavy metal that calls for repeat plays.” – 3.75/5 – The Metal Crypt

“I’d say that the one-man band exists in the progressive black/thrash zone, overall landing in a spot where extreme metal begins. This comes across as relatively accessible and modern, despite the pummeling drum sound, bracing guitar and bile vocals, not an easy thing to achieve. They are in the same family tree as their provincial compatriots Voivod, but on the slightly less odd side of the family. Professional in every respect, the production and playing are top notch, and the song writing is obviously advanced as well, rendering me very surprised that this hasn’t been picked up by a label yet.” – The Mighty Decibel

Montreal, QC – January 5, 2021

Canada’s Maudiir Announce Corrosive Black Thrash Single “The Slumber” Off Upcoming “La Part Du Diable”

Single Premiere via NoCleanSinging

New EP “La Part Du Diable” Out February 19, 2021

Coined as ‘blackened thrash metal’ F of Maudiir takes advantage of complete creative control and effortlessly moves between styles, adding infusions of punk, focused guitar solos, and clean production to the classic black metal vocals and chunky bass riffs.

The first single “The Slumber” off Maudiir forthcoming 2021 EP “La Part du Diable” starts on a big bass riff flirting with drone guitars and explodes into an epic instrumental black metal section. The song is about the worst personality traits we have seen awaken in some people, and that might have stayed dormant if not for the current situation. Maudiir comments on the EP as a whole:

“I had great reviews for the first EP “Le Temps Peste”. I think the new EP “La Part du Diable” expands on the first one and brings more progressive elements to the songs. I also managed to get the bass guitar at the forefront of the songs, which is not so common in modern metal, so I’m really happy about that. All in all, it’s a pretty interesting and unique listen.”

Creating an intensely dark sound, “La Part du Diable’‘ was inspired by reactions from people to the health crisis created by Covid, the political climate in the US, and conspiracy theories. This second offering from the band goes in a slightly more progressive and thrash direction than the first, F has also added distortion to the bass guitar giving a Voïvod-esque feel to the songs. It’s a riff-driven  EP with big bass grooves and corrosive vocals, mixing thrash metal and black metal with progressive elements, giving it a unique sound and feel.

Recommended for fans of Skeletonwitch, Darkthrone, and Voivod, “The Slumber” can be heard via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The single will be available on all digital platforms on January 8, 2021 and the full EP “La Part du Diable” is out on February 19, 2021.

“Touches of punk add attitude to these five angry and aggressive pieces of blackened thrash metal and make it an impressive debut EP” –  Loud Enough? Magazine

“Some really great tracks and precise playing makes this debut EP a note worthy event” – Absolute Underground Magazine

““Le Temps Peste” is overall an engaging listen that, as it progresses, gets even better and more complex, gradually easing you into the building mood and feel of the EP, the first couple of tracks  “Product” and “Abuse The Used” build on bleak Blackened driving riffs alongside a vitriolic rasping vocal delivery, the latter also benefiting from more of a haunting melody developing, a galloping Thrashy second half and soaring lead work which really adds to the sound.” 4/5 – The Metal Wanderlust

– Metal France

Canadian thrash legends Anonymus’ 12th studio album “La Bestia” (Bam&Co Heavy) has won two GAMIQ Awards (Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec) for “Metal Album of The Year” and the first-ever “Piggy Award”, named in honour of late Voivod guitarist Denis “Piggy” D’Amour for career recognition in the Quebec music industry. The full list of winners from the 15th annual GAMIQ awards can be found here along with the viewing of the event online here that was hosted on Sunday, December 6th.

GAMIQ – Metal Album of The Year Nominees:
Anonymus – La Bestia – Winner
Obey The Brave – Balance
Sandveiss – Saboteur
Scare – Not Dead Yet, Probably…
Souphl – Commerages
Warsenal – Feast Your Eyes

Celebrating his birthday on the same night of the awards event, Anonymus drummer Carlos Araya comments on winning the GAMIQs:

“At the start of this adventure for “La Bestia”, which began not long after the release of our 2019 Sacrifices album, the question arose… What do we do afterwards, do we change the pattern? Are we going to push elsewhere and differently? So, Carlos Ponte, our manager proposed to do something different, to make an album totally in Spanish, which will naturally attract the attention of a Canadian band with a wide history along with all of us being tri-lingual (Spanish, French, English)… Starting from there, things were instinctively created in what we do and what we know in metal.

We’re very thankful and honoured to have won Metal Album of the Year, we want to thank those who worked with us on this, our label Bam & Co, including Steve, Dany, Virginie and company, Propagande, Believe, Soundblast Media, Asher Media Relations, Background Noise and Omv Networking who helped put us forward. Benoit Nantel for the live recordings, which served us well, Mat Charest for the video “Bicho Loco” and Anthony Chognard for the recording along with Colin Richardson and Jean-Francois Dagenais of Kataklysm for their co-producing contributions.

I like to add, we are extremely honoured to win GAMIQ’s first “Piggy” for career recognition. “Piggy” aka Denis D’Amour of Voivod was and still is a big influence on our metal culture in Quebec and beyond, so we feel very privileged to receive this award.

What more can I say, but that Anonymus is a feat from over thirty years ago when I received my first drums from my parents and from the band’s founding. That the band is together with only one change after all these years is also an achievement so let’s underline the undeniable contribution of Marco Calliari in the band for the first 17 years. Continuing to make music with the Souto twins who have been my friends since I arrived in Canada at the age of 8 is a fate few can dream of. Our friend Carlos Ponte who has been helping us since day one is also remarkable. Marco’s departure was not easy, but Jef Fortin was able to bring stability and efficiency to the riff and the songs. Wow, how lucky we are to have him as a guitarist, songwriter and producer. Above all, he quickly became a member of our tightly-knit family.

There are lots of highlights from our career. We like to thank a brother-in-arms, Mononc ’Serge with whom we shared the stage on three tours, two albums and two DVDs; what a divine collaboration … Many thanks to Nadine Methot, Kaz Choucri, Pierre Rémillard. All the promoters, presenters, bookers, festivals, technical teams, bands, people from the community that we met; you know who you are, thank you.

And the biggest thank you without a doubt goes to our FANS. Without you, this band would be really anonymous…. Eternal Thanks.”

About “La Bestia”:

Known for their discography of both French and English releases, “La Bestia” is the first full length that the band offered up to metal fans that is completely in Spanish. Many metalheads and critics asked the most relevant question, why an album in Spanish? The answer… since Drummer Carlos Araya is Chilean born, and Oscar (lead vocals and bass) and Dan Souto (guitars and backing vocals) are sons of Spanish immigrants, it was only inevitable to make a record in that language that 3/4 of the band is fluent in.

“La Bestia” album stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer HERE. Vinyl HERE.

And for the beer lovers out there, Anonymus also launched their own IPA beer (La Microbrasserie Le Fermentor), named in honour of their first Spanish release. Info here.

About:

Canadian Thrash Legends ANONYMUS Announce Live Stream Concert Sept 5th From Quebec City’s L’Anti Bar

New Music Video “Bicho Loco”

First Spanish Album “La Bestia” Out Now! via Bam&co Heavy

Canadian thrash legends Anonymus announce they will be performing their first-ever live stream concert hosted by District 7 Production on September 5th from Quebec City’s L’Anti Bar. Full details on watching the virtual concert can be found here.

The live stream is in support of the band’s 12th studio album “La Bestia” via label Bam&co Heavy this past June. Known for their discography of both French and English releases, “La Bestia” is their first full length that is completely in Spanish. You may be asking why a Spanish album? Well since 3/4 of the band speaks Spanish. Drummer Carlos Araya is Chilean born, and Oscar (Lead Vocals and Bass) and Dan Souto (Guitars and Backing Vocals) are sons of Spanish immigrants it was time to make one.

“La Bestia” album stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer HERE.

In additional news, the band unveiled their latest music video “Bicho Loco”, which means translated to English “crazy bug”. The video was directed by Mathieu Charest who previously created their music videos ‘Suffer The Consequences’, and with Mononc Serge ‘Sous-Marin Brun’, ‘L’Age de Biere’, ‘Woodstock en Beauce’. The video also stars well known Quebec actor Martin Dubreuil and follows his character as he descends into insanity from being his own worst enemy.

The video was premiered on Decibel Magazine along with a Q&A interview with Anonymus‘ Oscar Souto (Vocals and Bass). View the music video at the following link HERE.

The band adds about the track:

“A song about a virus, cancer, a disease, something that eats you from inside, that comes and goes without warning. You don’t want that thing in your life, but no matter what, it’s there and you have to live and deal with it. Resonates with what is definitely occurring worldwide as of this moment.”

And for the beer lovers out there, Anonymus also launched their own IPA beer (La Microbrasserie Le Fermentor), named in honour of their first Spanish release. Info here.
