Montreal, QC – October 17, 2023

Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect – 9 String Bassist) Reaches New Progressive Heights With “Lithium Blue”

New Album “The Kvlt of Glitch” Out Now!

With their latest album “The Kvlt of Glitch”, Canada’s VVON DOGMA I is set to cement their status as a band that is unafraid to take risks and push boundaries. The album is a visceral and immersive listening experience, with songs that take unexpected twists and turns and showcase the band’s impressive musicianship. Fans of experimental rock and avant-garde music will want to dig into this release, especially the latest video for the track “Lithium Blue”, which 9-string bassist and founder Chaoth explains further:

“I just love that track, “Lithium Blue”. It was on the “Communion” EP but I felt like it needed a better production so I gave it a second chance and brought it in the studio and I love the result. From intricate high tapping patterns to the most caveman djent riff, it’s so satisfying.”

Watch and listen to “Lithium Blue” via its video premiere on V13 HERE.

“The Kvlt of Glitch” is Chaoth paying tribute to every period of different influences that he had in his life, from 90’s alternative and nu-metal to modern electronic and ambient music and everything in between. For him, it’s very freeing to be the main songwriter because you don’t have to fight for your ideas, whatever goes so, this is a glimpse of his psyche. Lyrically, the album is very much fueled by dark feelings that have been following him his whole life.

Chaoth struggled to find the right people for the band until he enlisted drummer Kevin Alexander as a creative partner which brought his vision to the next level. Alexander embodies the balls and attitude that the outfit needs to feel right. And then Yoan MP joined on guitars and his old-time collaborator Blaise Borboën added some spice to it and produced the first EP. With this lineup, fans can expect a barrage of synthetic sound, impressive riffs, and melancholic dissonance. The album is recommended for fans of Unprocessed, Meshuggah, and Igorrr.

“The Kvlt of Glitch” was released on May 5, 2023.

“His most recent playthrough video, Day of the Dead, combines all manner of picking, slapping and tapping, combining an expansive compositional approach with his virtuosic technique.” – Bass Player Magazine

“The invigorating glitched out bliss they have on display here is as dense as it is rewarding, with nothing falling out of place, yet with everything shifting all the time. If “The Void” is any indication of what’s to come, I seriously cannot wait to hear the rest of The Kvlt of Glitch, when it lands on May 5th independently.” – Everything Is Noise

“Vvon Dogma I are an act I praised many, many moons ago and I’m stoked to do so again. The band lead by ex-uneXpect bassist Frédérick Filiatrault is mixing electronics, progressive metal, vocoder, grooves and more. This one is for prog nerds and bass geeks alike. Also, there’s a wild cover of Radiohead’s “2 + 2 =5″ and you won’t hear anything like it anywhere else.” – Metal Injection

“Vvon Dogma are back with a new video for their new record, The Kvlt of Glitch, in the form of the track “One Eye.” It features some seriously insane nine-string bass playing… Chaoth, their nine-string bassist, is a big driver behind their experimental sound and their popularity.” – Metal Sucks

“The album promises to push boundaries with its unconventional approach to music.” – Metal Insider

“The path has been challenging for this new Canadian juggernaut, but now awakened in their futuristic glory Vvon Dogma I has positioned themselves to emerge victorious in a way past efforts did not. Worship noise, don leather straps and desert goggles, turn down the lights—the Kvlt will consume you.” – Angry Metal Guy

“if you’re in the market for something a bit different and potentially challenging, then check this out. If you’re a fan of bands such as Scale the Summit, Synaptic Glitch, Cynic, Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders, Sleep Token, Unprocessed, and OU, then put this on your radar.” – Wonderbox Metal

“I am not exaggerating when I say you’re in for something very different. Vvon Dogma I is a project from Montreal, Canada, led by Frederick F a.k.a. ChaotH. He’s playing a 9 string bass, added by drummer Kevin Alexander, guitarist Yoan MP and Blaise Borboën on synthesizers, strings and production. I added Vvon Dogma I as progressive metal in the database, but is so much more than ’just’ that! At times so complex it is almost impossible to count the rhythm. It’s like uptempo industrial metal with progressive twists, added by jazz moves at times… Sometimes the music feels like madness transalted into notes, but still with a thread to follow. I like this, probably because it is so unique.” – Melodic.net

““The Void” opens the album and immediately grabs the listener with that insane bass playing and technical sound. There’s some cool noises and those mesmerizing vocals as well… Chaoth’s bass playing is just unreal, I mean on the same level of Les Claypool. The electronic embellishments that pop up on this album just makes it sound all the more foreign and not of this world. This is currently my top contender for album of the year.” – Transcending The Mundane

“If you have a taste for more of a quirky and off kilter variety of djent-flavored contemporary progressive metal, this album is probably one that merits a check.” – Progressor

“Vvon Dogma I delivers here an album beyond limits – beyond limits, plural… I find this Kvlt of Glitch very successful, avant-garde and yet very accessible.” – Erdorin

“The album had a mixture of harrowing, ominous elements and smooth, accessible melodies. But it was the way that these were combined that make it so unique. It was all about the use of tension. This feature kept the listener on his toes, because at times it was buried in the background, while other times it was right in your face. The musicianship was impeccable as well. 9/10” – Metal Temple

Israel’s Neolia released their debut self-titled album this past May. The album is an experimental, progressive slab of metal that fans have been flocking to local shows for. From the record’s haunting melodies to its complex rhythms, every aspect of this full-length has been crafted with care and precision.

Today, the band shares their latest vocal playthrough from Ben Reiss for the track “Carried Away” via its premiere on V13 HERE.

“Carried Away is dark yet restless. It has a dynamic wide range from the most tender guitars to the sharpest and most dissonant tones. The vocals in the song incorporate a variety of vocal techniques that keep the listener on his toes. ‘Carried away’ takes you on the journey inside the mind of a child that is hallucinating scary images.” adds Mash.

Musically, Neolia‘s self-titled album is a reflection of years of soaking up music of different genres from rock to pop to world music and whatnot. It’s a fusion of bits upon bits of pieces absorbed and processed and then spat out from a personal perspective. In its musical aspect, it’s rock and metal-based, but with a twist of African, Latin, Jazz, and ambient that reaches the spectrum of high and low, tender, extreme, and crazy.

Recommended for fans of Protest The Hero, Coheed and Cambria, The Human Abstract, and Tool, Neolia‘s self-titled album was released on May 5th, 2023, and is available on https://neolia.bandcamp.com/album/neolia, Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3nsmoaf

“as the chaotic screams of Dance of Violence and the ever-contorting Rise and Fall attest, the rawness of their emotions often turns that into a positive. The slow-burning Anchors builds on moody tension, jarring textures melt into a soundscape that, across seven minutes, throws in heavy bursts, tender lulls and spiky rhythms. It’s a wildly diverse ride… Their ambition or vision can’t be faulted.” – Prog Mag

“This band is going to be huge. You know how Tool and the Mars Volta developed into their own sound and how they have a legion of devoted fans? That’s what Israel’s Neolia is about to do with this self titled debut album.” – Transcending the Mundane

“Karma”, (the video) accompanied by a beautiful shot somewhere in the deserts of Israel, has that fantastic balance of aggression and melody that I love about alternative metal. At its more frenetic moments, like the excellent transitions from the heavier moments near the end of the track and the more melodic chorus, it reminds me of The Mars Volta, and that is one big compliment. Elsewhere, Yerushalmi’s guest vocals are expertly utilized to balance the rawer, more harried vocals of the band’s own singer, Ben Reiss. Together, they present the major melodic force on the track, while the instruments deliver well written, complex, and undeniable groove. This mix is exactly what alternative metal is so good for, hitting on both the emotional and the visceral level of enjoyment. The track ends up being both interesting to dissect and take apart but also something you can move and sing to. If the band’s self-titled is as good as this, and the other tracks released so far seem to indicate that that is indeed the case, then we’re in for a treat. Make sure you head on over to the band’s Bandcamp to pre-order it; I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!” – Heavy Blog Is Heavy

“It’s as if Ben’s screams had come straight out of hell tearing the skies in all directions” – Metalist Magazine

Canada’s HARDBALL Are Reimagining Grunge With “NRA” Off Upcoming Debut S/T Album Out July 21st

+ Western Canadian Tour Dates

Hardball is an emerging punk/grunge act from Vancouver, BC, Canada, who are set to release their debut self-titled album in July. The deadly trio of seasoned musicians is eager to play something that is uncommon these days and the new album delivers something that is reminiscent of the 90s with a modern twist amidst the punk and grunge rock chaos. The second single is “NRA”, which captures huge-sounding drums, and over-the-top-heavy, layered guitars. To them, the vibe is also very important and resulted in rerecording some sections many times trying to get the energy exactly how we wanted.

According to Hardball, the single is musically just supposed to sound completely bonkers. Drums going completely ape all over the place, obnoxious riffing, and big low-tuned power chords, the heavily distorted bass guitar holds down the main riff. Lyrically, it is an anthem about gun control. Not really even with a coherent position on the matter. Calling it NRA despite not directly having anything to do with the NRA, was a humorous take to them. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Budgie explains more:

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that the US has major social problems that have led to regular shootings. I don’t like it, and I can’t do anything about it. But, I’m going to shout about it the way a scared, confused child might. I think listeners will recognize that we’re not a nostalgia act, there is a clear influence from contemporary punk and hardcore that shows through. I think people will recognize that this is original and genuine music.”

Hardball is composed of former Poles frontman and Vancouver local Scott Budgie, as well as Okanagan residents, drummer Jeremy Head also of The Motion Picture, and bassist Jamie Black. Their self-titled album is a joint production between recording engineer Matt Roach of Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Baptists, Misery Signals, Comeback Kid) and mix engineer Felix Fung of Little Red Sounds in New Westminster, BC (Needles//Pins, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Mode Moderne).

In support of the album, Hardball is setting out on tour this August with appearances throughout Western Canada. Full tour dates are listed below. They are recommended for fans of Wipers, Hüsker Dü, and Flipper.

Listen to “NRA” via its premiere on V13 HERE.

0 Canada’s THE BLOODY HELL Shares Their DIY Video “Hide Away” Off Latest Album “Nobody Cares” Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Canada’s THE BLOODY HELL Shares Their DIY Video “Hide Away” Off Latest Album “Nobody Cares” Out Now!

Halifax, Canada’s The Bloody Hell are sharing with punksters their new DIY music video “Hide Away” to follow their two previous videos “Nobody Cares About America Anymore” and “When You’re Gone” that they worked and collaborated with a digital artist and a stop motion artist to bring the songs, stories, and videos alive.

For the new video “Hide Away”, the band decided to go full DIY to capture the energy and image of the band and song, in a more stripped-down and raw visual approach. It was shot in January/February of 2023 by the band themselves and edited together by guitar player/singer Ian Kean in a true DIY fashion.

Kean comments:

“The main challenge with doing the video ourselves was making it not look like it was just four guys in their jam space. We didn’t have much of a budget for this project but with some cool camera techniques and fancy editing, it achieved that goal quite nicely. The video is dark, personal, and moves quickly, which is a great visual representation of the song itself. DIY or die”

The video is in support of their latest album “Nobody Cares” released in November of last year.

“Hide Away” can be heard and seen via its premiere on V13 HERE.

Since forming in 2017, The Bloody Hell has gotten dirtier and more polished at the same time, with the band infecting fans with their pop-cultural hooks and concepts, while the guitars keep getting louder and the vocals becoming uglier. The Bloody Hell is pretty much what would happen if George Thorogood sang for the Misfits, but all the songs were written by Tom Petty.

With their super catchy horror rock songs about drinking and heartache, The Bloody Hell play at a punk rock speed with a lineup that features vocalist/guitarist Ian Kean (guitar, vocals), guitarist and pianist James Densley also known from Bubbles and The Shit Rockers, the band fronted by the character Bubbles from the hit TV show The Trailer Park Boys, drummer Kyle Cantfell (Elektric Mistress), and bassist Joe Woods (Root Cellar).

In November 2022, the band released their long-awaited follow-up to their 2018 debut self-titled album. Entitled “Nobody Cares”, the sophomore record took about 3 years to complete due to Covid restrictions, lockdown, and all the madness that was the pandemic. This latest album features The Bloody Hell’s signature sound of raspy aggressive, catchy horror, and politically charged antics over nine tracks that clock in at just over 28 minutes. From tracks like “Hide Away” with its fast punky driving riff and slick earworm guitar lead to “Barbra” a cover of an old Canadian punk song by Vancouver legends Modernettes to even having saxophone on “G” along with added piano on “As Above” and “So Below”, punk fans will find it to be an energetic and passionate sonic experience that conveys stories from lived experiences that many can relate to.

“With this album, we feel our sound has evolved nicely from the previous record released in 2018. We have worked hard to shape our songwriting and storytelling abilities and that is thoroughly displayed over the nine tracks on this album. Our songwriting has progressed and we hope that people hearing us for the first time will find something in our sound to relate to or sing along with.” adds vocalist/guitarist Ian Kean.

Suitable for a variety of fans, The Bloody Hell cites influences ranging from Misfits, Nirvana, and Motorhead, anyone who enjoys a fun and dirty romp with a bull horn of grungy vocals.

Their new album “Nobody Cares” is available on all digital platforms and cassette at https://linktr.ee/thebloodyhellhfx.

“Punk and horror punk fans should find Nobody Cares of great interest. ” – Metal Talk

“Sound wise it’s very accessible, an up-tempo and fun listen that is easy on the ear and compelling to the mind, with influences that the band cite as ranging from Misfits, Nirvana, and Motorhead and it’s filled with catchy hooks and grungy raw-edged vocals, a winning combination in this particular context, it’s very broad spectrum and if you like a horror twist then it could be even more appealing to you. Lyrically the content is interestingly often ambiguous and delivered with clarity of content so you can give them your own interpretation.” – The Punk Globe (Self-Titled 2018)

0 V13 Video Premiere – StormbounD Share Their Optimistic Love Song “Flying High” Off Upcoming “December”

  • June 3, 2022

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 3, 2022

StormbounD Share Their Optimistic Love Song “Flying High” Off Upcoming “December”

Hailing from Israel, StormbounD are adding to the symphonic metal subgenre with their latest single “Flying High”. This is the third single off their upcoming record “December”, which is slated for summer release. The band coins the album as a “melodic prophecy of wrath” – a journey that will take the listener into new territory while staying firmly planted in symphonic roots. This new single is a love song, that almost didn’t make it onto the album as the band further explains:

“It’s an optimistic love song, where the man is a protagonist that helps his loved one overcome her suffering caused by a mental illness. During the recording, we noticed that all the “Irish” elements made the original chorus we had for it sound a little depressing, so we wrote new lyrics and composed a new chorus. That instantly became a winner. We almost cut this song out of the album and now it’s one of the leading singles.”

The main songwriter for StormbounD is vocalist/guitarist Ofer Friedman, but they say that it’s really about working together as a team and that everything is collaborative. In terms of writing order, they continue to say that lyrics and musical composition go hand in hand, whichever is written first will lead the way.

The band got together in 2018, and after a couple of shuffles and instrument switches, they arrived at their current lineup – powerful frontwoman Yael Horwitz climbs octaves while vocalist/guitarist Ofer Friedman adds a layer of grit to complement her. Guitarist Shani Friedman fills in with harmonized riffs and the rhythm section of bassist Pavel Kleiman and drummer Yuval Partush get heart rates going and heads banging. Keyboardist Rotem Sadia injects orchestrations, strings, and melodies that push StormbounD into the sky.

The combination of soaring riffs, beautiful vocals and heavy beats show that StormbounD is creative, yet accessible. They are recommended for fans of Evanescence, Epica, and Within Temptation.

The video for “Flying High” is being premiered on V13 HERE.
