Combining influences from Tool, Mastodon, The Agonist, Gojira and A Perfect Circle; Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM‘s sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, they have been making their mark on Vancouver’s metal scene and beyond with cover videos along with singles “Ancient Heart” and “Space Mead”. Set to unleash their debut album “Cosmonaut”, a release loosely based on themes from stories by H.P. Lovecraft and others, the band is ready to reveal it in full with the premiere of its stream on Decibel Magazine at the following link: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2018/11/15/full-album-stream-kosm-cosmonaut/

The band explains “Cosmonaut”:

“Cosmonaut is a concept album loosely based on the weird-fiction of HP Lovecraft, and borrowing concepts from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny. The album follows a cosmonaut on a cosmic journey through time and space; from the earthly confines of mortal life, to ascendancy as an immaterial and omnipotent being. The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

“Cosmonaut” will be released on November 16th and available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play.

“The song (Ancient Heart) itself, which swings between some appetizingly heavy progressive riffs and aggressive growls and more melodic moments (with clean singing behind them). A tough band to place in that regard, but one certainly worth seeking out as they continue to expand their sound.” – DeadRhetoric

“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove.  They have all sorts of dual guitar sections, and very psychedelic and moody parts on “Cosmonaut” as well.  They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second. ” – Technical Music Review

Dizzy Mystics, a psychedelic progressive rock band from Winnipeg, Canada, will be dishing out their tunes across Ontario this coming December in support of their latest singles and planned 2019 debut album “Wanderlost”. The tour will kick off in Selkirk, MB on Nov 30th and see the band trek a week through central Ontario wrapping up the fun in Sudbury on December 8th.

The band comments:

“We are over the moon to make our first journey through the Canadian Shield, and “Enter Ontario”! She’s a big beautiful province and her music scene is a vast ocean, but we aim to make waves.”

Earlier this year the band served up their third single “Diamond Duller”, the most hard hitting and jarring of the songs off the band’s upcoming 2019 debut album “Wanderlost”. Still retaining their colourful medley, the single expands further into their depths of psychedelic melody, pocket grooves, crushing intensity, mind bending passages, and catchy vocals.

The band explains:

“It’s a heavy track with a theme around the classic case of the grass being greener and taking things for granted. With a metal base, there are pronounced elements of melodic hard rock and funk.  Full of cryptic imagery and metaphors, super jazzy bass lines and progressive guitar riffs this track is sure to be a favourite for fans of Mastodon, Led Zeppelin and The Mars Volta.”

DIZZY MYSTICS forthcoming debut full length “Wanderlost” could be loosely based on the concept of being lost in oneself; sonically traversing through a plethora of genres and elements including hard and progressive rock, metal and folk, jazz fusion and grunge. The album was self recorded; mixed by John Paul Peters (Private Ear Recording, Winnipeg); mastered by Ed Brooks (Resonant Mastering, Seattle) and the album artwork was crafted by Ben Duncan.

BIO:

Dizzy Mystics Soup for the Rocker’s Soul;
2 cups Psychedelic
2 cups Progressive
1 cup Hearty 70’s Metal
3 tbsp. Jazz
3 tbsp. Funk
2 tbsp. Folk
1 tbsp. Soul
A pinch of Celtic Pepper is optional

(Measurements of each ingredient are subject to change for each batch made)

As the recipe implies, rock music is the spoon that stirs the soup, and no genre (or spice) is out of the question for Dizzy Mystics. Climbing out the stock pot in 2015, Dizzy Mystics are a psychedelic rock band based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. One can expect a dynamically diverse, tastefully complex, and energetic dose of adventurous hard rock with feet moving rhythmic swagger, and stargazing melodies.

– 30 –

“It is clear that Dizzy Mystics may be among the most unique of the vibrant Canadian rock scene to be delivering tracks that will leave fans of classic, progressive, and 90’s alternative rock excited for what is to come.” – Canadian Beats

“Mysticism aside, this band certainly got the “dizzy” part right! The Winnipeg rock quartet Dizzy Mystics offer up a staggering musical concoction that, considering its progressive and experimental flair, is surprisingly radio-ready. Think Rush and Primus drinking wine with Tool before dropping acid with Frank Zappa and checking out a jazz club with Steely Dan. Dizzying, right? Jokes aside, frontman Kyle Halldorson, guitarist Alexandre Joyal, drummer Jeffrey Laird and bassist Aaron Bacon have some serious chops and, with the right amount of work, gigging and outside help, this Canadian act has the potential to not only see the end of the tarmac, but to also take off!” – PureGrainAudio

“Diamond Duller moves and groves, in interesting rhythms, changing from one beat to another, shifting and clanging with energy. The vocals bring about high energy and ensure the listener is hooked from the get go.” – The Median Man

“The quartet has crafted a psychedelic and progressive sound upon many others including melodic hard rock and funk.  The band takes you through a heavy and psychedelic trip on their latest single.” – Technical Music Review

Recruiting a cast of characters from several well-known Toronto Metal bands including Vesperia, Asaroth Incarnate, Völur, Hallows Die, Sludgehammer, Bloodmoon Collective and The Silence Factory, IOMAIR was founded by drummer/vocalist Dylan Gowan. Combining haunting violin work with blackened growls, melodic singing, heavy riffs and thundering drums, IOMAIR creates a style that’s unique for all members involved.

Their self-titled album was written by Gowan in 2017 as a way to cope with the personal challenges he faced throughout the year.  The nine-song release is a collection of musical stories that center on the universal themes of love, yearning, trials of life and self-reflection. Spanning a multitude of influences including folk metal, melodic death metal, prog and even Latin music, IOMAIR aims to delight listeners with often unexpected twists while offering an outlet for hardship.

Gowan comments:

“All the lyrics involved are about personal struggles, relationships and the trials of life. These experiences inspired me to write so that I could walk away from those experiences intact rather than broken. All of the tracks on the album are all about the personal struggles we all go through in life, and I hope people will find comfort in these songs knowing that they are not alone.”.

IOMAIR are suggested for fans of Opeth, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree and anyone who enjoys heavy, melodic progressive metal.

IOMAIR‘s self-titled debut album is set to be released worldwide on September 21, 2018 via Infamous Butcher Records and available for pre-order at the following link: http://smarturl.it/iomair

Dizzy Mystics, a psychedelic progressive rock band from Winnipeg, Canada, are serving up their third single “Diamond Duller”. It is the most hard hitting and jarring of the songs off the band’s debut album “The Wanderlost”set to be released at a later date. Still retaining their colourful medley, this new single expands further into their depths of psychedelic melody, pocket grooves, crushing intensity, mind bending passages, and catchy vocals.

“Diamond Duller” is a heavy track with a theme around the classic case of the grass being greener and taking things for granted. With a metal base, there are pronounced elements of melodic hard rock and funk.  Full of cryptic imagery and metaphors, super jazzy bass lines and progressive guitar riffs this track is sure to be a favourite for fans of Mastodon, Led Zeppelin and The Mars Volta.

Take a listen for yourself via PureGrainAudio, where the track is streaming now: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/prog-rockers-dizzy-mystics-shine-bright-on-their-new-single-diamond-duller-exclusive-premiere

The full length album “The Wanderlost” could be loosely based on the concept of being lost in oneself; sonically traversing through a plethora of genres and elements including hard and progressive rock, metal and folk, jazz fusion and grunge. The album was self recorded; mixed by John Paul Peters (Private Ear Recording, Winnipeg); mastered by Ed Brooks (Resonant Mastering, Seattle) and the album artwork was crafted by Ben Duncan.

NEWS RELEASE

Vancouver progressive alternative metal KOSM have looked to the stars for inspiration, creating their own sound and story-telling mythos; a welcome break from the media-saturated negativity that threatens to overwhelm us; and like all good sci-fi / fantasy, KOSM’s songs reflect the world around us, they truly are 21st century sonic bards!

Inspired by Tool, Mastodon, The Agonist (Alissa White-Gluz era), Gojira and A Perfect Circle, KOSM have created a fan following both on their local scene and beyond, firstly with cover videos, and most recently with two singles “Ancient Heart” and “Space Mead”. The quintet is now revealing their debut music video for “Ancient Heart” with its premiere on Prog-Sphere.com. The single will appear on the band’s planned debut album entitled “Cosmonaut” slated for release later in 2018.

Drummer Sterling Paterson comments:

“We’re quite excited to debut our first music video for our single ‘Ancient Heart’. It’s a milestone for all of us because, while we’ve shot a few cover videos for YouTube, manifesting a picture to the lyrics that’s a bit more than just a bunch of dynamic shots of us playing our instruments, required a lot more thinking outside of the box. We had to work within the concept and theme of our upcoming album ‘Cosmonaut’, as well as the lyrical direction of the song itself, and taking into consideration we didn’t have much for budget, it was a lot of thinking on our feet to make something from nothing.

A lot of the credit goes to our vocalist Jessie for her creative direction and our photographer/videographer Lee Tebb for really helping us bring this video to life. It’s not like we had a few grand to throw around for special effects, professional grade audio/visual gear, etc; so working with what we had, we all couldn’t be happier.”

EPK – https://wp.me/pciNW-busAbout:
Our ancestors believed that our lives on Earth were reflected in the stars. ‘As Above, So Below’ was their wise wisdom, seeing the lights of the cosmic firmament as reflecting the lives of the people below. Moreover, they told tales, cloaked in mystical terms, but tales of the world around them, reflections through a glass darkly. Now, progressive metallers KOSM have looked to the stars for inspiration, creating their own sound and story-telling mythos; a welcome break from the media-saturated negativity that threatens to overwhelm us; and like all good SF/Fantasy, KOSM’s songs reflect the world around us, they truly are 21st century sonic bards!Inspired by Tool, Mastodon, The Agonist (Alissa White-Gluz era), Gojira and A Perfect Circle, drummer Sterling Paterson describes their sound as “female fronted progressive alternative metal.”

Creating interest on their local scene and fan following first with cover videos, along with two singles “Ancient Heart” and “Space Mead”, Sterling is stoked for fans to hear KOSM’s planned debut ‘Cosmonaut’ set for release in 2018.

“I think our upcoming album should be received well. The authenticity and sound of this band and how it has been received just blows us away. We want to tell a story that is inspired by our love of dark fantasy and H.P Lovecraft!”

Live, KOSM really do bring their audience to another dimension.

“Despite being a heavier band, people are coming to our gigs that don’t even listen to metal and are headbanging and having a riot! Both men and women come to our shows, it’s never a boy’s club. In one of our last gigs we were swamped with people wanting autographs on gig posters. We put on a show that’s akin to Tool and Mastodon. A good balance of heavy riffs and hooks crossed with hypnotic bridges and interludes whilst delivered over a series of different time signatures. People can expect to be taken on a journey where they’ll be thrashing around one moment and swaying to the music the next!”

(Bio written by Steve Earles)
