Band life is always a truth of being broke as f*ck and playing for the fun and the road. Halifax, Canada’s Turbo embraces this reality with their latest music video “Broke & Ugly”, the title track of their latest album released this past July.

With a slim budget, and a trailer as their jam space, Turbo has effectively proved they are truly “Broke & Ugly”. The band comments on the song:

“The title track of the album was written in a period of hard times, financially speaking. Since this is more or less the general state of being for Evan in particular, who else would be better suited to lyrically immortalize this mindset? It’s catchy, it’s boppy, it’s snarky, and it has our favourite chorus on the album: “Got no money, and STILL fuckin’ ugly”! An anthem we hope at least SOMEBODY out there will relate to.”

Vancouver, Canada’s Thirteen Goats are proud to release their second album—the extreme metal rock opera “Capricorn Rising”. It tells the story of their mascot, Shepherd: a goat-skull-wearing Antichrist who raises an army of animals to liberate the earth from humanity’s constant wars and greed. This high-concept narrative is delivered with Thirteen Goats‘ signature blend of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They comment on the album:

“We think fans are going to get everything they loved about our first record, only more of it—and more focused. We’re exploring similar themes on this release, but we’ve connected them by weaving a cohesive story throughout these nine tracks that gives more context to the different musical and tonal shifts. And just like on the last record, we haven’t been afraid to break the rules.”

Each song on the album is part of a broader narrative that explores themes of disillusionment, radicalization, and rebellion as Shepherd and his 12 demon goats wage their crusade. Thirteen Goats delivers a unique blend of death and thrash metal, combined with a storytelling approach that takes listeners on a journey through the darkest aspects of both human and animal nature.

Listeners can expect furious riffage, ambitious song structures, and even occasional female guest vocals (courtesy of guest artist Carly Ellen Jones). “What makes this turbocharged song (Sign of The Goat) so damned much diabolical fun is the band’s melding of viscerally compulsive grooves, head-spinning instrumental pyrotechnics, and rapid-fire vocal assaults — and doing so in a way that makes the track highly infectious too. The track was written by drummer Sylvain Coderre and vocalist/guitarist Evan Frizzle while both were going through nasty breakups.

It has a few little Easter eggs from other songs from the band peppered through it, and a green hand grabbing for some shit tickets from a busted-ass urinal that belongs to the velociraptor featured in the album art from their first record, “Fast As Fvck”.”

Kicking off their 2024 Summer tour dates on May 31st that are in honor of guitarist Dallas Toler Wade’s 50th birthday and the 10th anniversary of Narcotic Wasteland‘s self-titled debut album, the trio is unshackling their latest single “Barbarian” for the masses. The song will be featured on the band’s forthcoming third full-length “Digital Cordyceps” out on Megaforce Records in 2024 (release date TBD).

Dallas Toler-Wade comments on the new track:

“Barbarian is one of my favorite songs I have written so far. The guitar work is thrashy but also has a neo-classical element to it. I love the mid-tempo churning bass drums that is no secret at this point. Lyrically the song is about my personal feelings on how I want to live my life, but also an observation of what is going on in the world right now. I am sure I am not the only one who sees we are living in an oligarchic society. Meaning we are in a society where only a chosen few have most of the political power. This has always disgusted me. I never needed a political leader or organized religion to tell me how to act, what to read or listen to, and who to vote for. I think it is all complete self-serving bullshit and I refuse to have any part in it. I am barbaric. I follow no rules but my own. I refuse to participate in a society that is untrustworthy, narcissistic, and completely selfish. So I choose a more nomadic life as far away as possible from all of the madness. I am here to entertain. It is my calling. I hope you enjoy the song!!!!! Thanks to all of the fans for your continued support and inspiration!!! Let’s rise above and take our freedom back!!!!!”

Combining the anthemic melodies of traditional and power metal, the precise, aggressive attack of thrash, and twists of dark intensity borrowed from second-wave black metal, Jersey, USA’s Mindrazer plays a style as familiar as it is fresh. Their first full-length, “A Thing of Nightmares” is a bold, brutal, and diverse exploration of melodic thrash metal, which even before its official release, was igniting mosh pits at the band’s live shows.
