Revealing to the world their latest epic “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” at the end of this November, Italian gothic doomsters Shores of Null are giving fans a visual experience of their 38-minute single-track concept album that takes listeners through the stages of grief. The video explores the band’s dark opus with many special guests, including two doom-titans, Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus) along with the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno). The band also presents an even more diverse and eclectic sound on the album thanks to the addition of piano and violin.

Shores of Null comments on the video:

“This video goes hand in hand with the theme of the song, exploring the process of grief in its black and white grandeur. In these dark times, with no live shows in sight, we wanted to offer you an intense visual experience to better capture the empathy of the album, teaming up once again with Sanda Movies, who succeeded in the exceptional task of putting the full 38-minute song into images, giving the work as a whole a much deeper meaning”

Experience the stages of grief with the full album video HERE.

Shores Of Null can be overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time, trading off between gothic-doom vibes and blackened aggression. Their music stands out for its melancholic yet majestic vibe, made of choral-like guitar textures exploiting their full range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined brew of clean and growled vocals, with a large use of vocal harmonies, which have become one of the band’s trademark through the years.

Suggested for fans of Paradise Lost, Amorphis, and Saturnus, “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” is available at the following link HERE (CD, Vinyl, Digital).

About:

Shores Of Null is a Rome-based metal band, an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013. They have churned out two impressive records: the melodic and somber  “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014) and the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), both of which were highly praised by the worldwide music press.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic yet majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

Shores Of Null has performed over 150 shows, including six European tours (with In The Woods, Ereb Altor, Hooded Menace, Mourning Beloveth, Novembre, Harakiri For The Sky, Sylvaine, and more), dozens of shows and tours in their home country (with Primordial, Arcturus, Candlemass, Moonsorrow, Leprous, Saturnus, Negura Bunget, etc.) and many European Festivals (Inferno Festival, Eindhoven Metal Meeting, Winter Days Of Metal, Doom Over London, Metalitalia Fest, Frantic Fest, and more).

Shores Of Null’s third work, “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying),” is expected to be released in November 2020 via Spikerot Records, continuing to prove the band’s willingness to go off the beaten path and create their ultimate doom manifesto, a 38 minute-long suite emphasizing their heavier, slower and dramatic side, inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. The band has collaborated on the dark opus with many special guests, including two doom-titans, Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus), along with the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno). The band is able to present an even more diverse and eclectic sound on the album thanks to the addition of classical instruments like piano and violin, along with the return of the talented Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse) behind the production desk.

Rome’s Shores of Null have a third teaser to preview their upcoming doom record “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)”. Close to forty minutes, the one track album is an epic journey through the process of grieving.

From a lyrical viewpoint “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” is inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and explored in her book “On Death And Dying”, hence the title.

Today, the band shares “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt III)”. The third excerpt opens with feeble notes of a grand piano before the unmistakable spoken words of Saturnus’ Thomas A.G. Jensen enters the scene, and his doleful growl finally puts you out of your misery. Saturnus is one of Shores of Null‘s favorite death/doom bands and vocalist Davide Straccione personally has been a fan of them since ‘Veronika Decides To Die’ came out in 2006. They’re truly honored to have him on board for this release.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place.

Recommended for any and all doom fans, especially fans of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Amorphis, “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt III)” can be heard via its North American premiere on DoomAndStoned HERE.

“Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” will be released in its entirety on November 27th, 2020.

Rome’s Shores of Null are releasing an ambitious and massive single track album “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” via Spikerot Records on November 27th, 2020.

The album, one complete work, can be divided into five separate movements, each one exploring one of the recognized stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. This album is a partial deviation from the sound Shores of Null has been refining over the years as they enhance their heavier, slower, and dramatic elements to create their ultimate doom manifesto. In this dark venture, the band has involved a bunch of special guests, including two doom-titans such as Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A. G. Jensen (Saturnus) plus the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno).

The doom metal act has already released the first excerpt for listeners to immerse themselves with a three and half minute clip that shows various elements that this doom metal band has woven together to create a thick aura of forlorn melancholy.

Shores Of Null is a Rome-based metal band, an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their outset in 2013, able to churn out two impressive records: the highly acclaimed debut “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014) and the sophomore, more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), both heavily praised by the worldwide press.

For fans of anything dark and dreary, especially those with an existing interest in Swallow The Sun, My Dying Bride, and Paradise Lost; “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt I)” was released on October 2, 2020 and can be heard on the following links:

Bandcamp

The full release of “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” will be available on November 27th, 2020.

Just when spring begins to peak in the Great White North, Majestic Downfall (Mexico) and Helevorn (Spain) will arrive from warmer lands to plunge the country back into the cold and dreary atmosphere that Canadians are accustomed to with their individual styles of melodic and melancholic doom metal. Both bands have released impressive albums recently that have caught the attention of media around the world. Now, Canadian metalheads will have the chance to experience the live acts from these well-regarded bands.

Helevorn released “Aamamata” in January 2019 and following in the veins of Draconican and Swallow the Sun. Heavy and dreary, it has enough variation and self-expression to keep from being dull.

“Aamamata is an experience that oozes with desolation and gloom, yet still provides that slightly uplifting feeling at the end of the day. Bone-crushing riffs that reverberate with emotion join up with some more introspective moments (see “Goodbye, Hope”) to bring in the contrast that bands like Daylight Dies and Novembers Doom have done so well, yet the structuring of both gives Helevorn a little wiggle room to reach for their own sweet spot.” – Dead Rhetoric

Majestic Downfall unleashed “Waters of Fate” in December of 2018 and the six-track album is recommended for fans of My Dying Bride and old Katatonia. As their fifth studio release, they bring finesse and emotion back into the genre.

“The sound of these Mexicans improved in industrial proportions and this innovative and varied approach to their music, presents the extreme and melancholic detail that Doom/Death Metal left forgot long ago.” – breathlesssleep.com

Doom and death metal fans are invited to witness these acts across the desolate North.

Majestic Downfall

Majestic Downfall started as a one-man doom journey in August of 2006. The idea was to recapture the feeling of the 90s European death/doom metal scene, while mixing it with some more modern metal overtones. In 2007, MAjestic Downfall pressed its first demo titled – “The First Abyss Demo 2007” which was later released in a split with Italian black/doom metal band Ansia.

On April 6th, 2009, Majestic Downfall released its debut full-length album, “Temple of Guilt”. This time the music contained a darker edge full of sorrow and new influences from bands like Shining and Forgotten Tomb. 2011 saw the release of “The Blood Dance” album which contained 7 sorrowful passages with an even darker edge than Temple of Guilt. The “Three” album was released in 2013 and this time the sound contained even more experimentation in the music but without staying too far away from the band’s musical roots. 2015 sees the release of “…When Dead”, an album that is not only the bands most diverse output incorporating lots of influences outside doom metal, but one that also and for the first time has an important backing label.

In 2018, “Waters of Fate”, was released in 3 different continents by 3 different labels. It is mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Portrait, Mayhem) at Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and definitely more and more opportunities in all areas coming along the way for the band.

Spanish Doom Metallers HELEVORN Posts New Lyric Video “Aurora“

New Album “Aamamata” Out Now via Solitude Productions/BadMoodMan Music

Shadows of The North Canada Tour 2019 w/ Majestic Downfall

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “Aurora“. The video is in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” released this past January via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.

Check it out at https://youtu.be/L1Zqs_wM99E

Vocalist Josep Brunet explains the track:

“This song is about an extraordinary woman who fought for the civil rights of the working class and was murdered during the fascist military coup in 1936-37 in Spain. She was only 25 years old and her body has still not been found.”

“Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

The band adds:

“We think that fans will love the new album. We know that we are not discovering something new, we are creating 90’s goth-doom metal in present times. It should be received like a piece to reborn the scene and for the music to relate on the decadence of humankind through the drama of the refugees that are dying and trying to escape from the hell that the Western countries have put them in.”

With more and more fans craving the somber tones and dreary vocals, HELEVORN has brought their dramatic intensity to many European festivals including Dutch Doom Days, Gothoom Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, and Madrid is the Dark Fest. They are also bringing their gloom to Canadian cities this coming May for their first cross country tour with Solitude Productions label mates Mexico’s Majestic Downfall (dates listed below).

Montreal, QC – January 21, 2019

For fans of Draconian, Swallow The Sun, Paradise Lost, Woods of Ypres

Spanish Doom Metallers HELEVORN Posts New Lyric Video “Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)”

New Album “Aamamata” Out Jan 23rd, 2019 via Solitude Productions/BadMoodMan Music

Shadows of The North Canada Tour 2019 w/ Majestic Downfall

L-R – Enrique Sierra (Keys), Josep Brunet (Vocals), Will Adrift (Bass), Sandro Vizcaino (Guitars), Samuel Morales (Guitars), Xavi Gil (Drums)

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)”, which is sung in eight different languages. The video is in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” due out this Wednesday, January 23rd via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.

Check it out at https://youtu.be/5Yw7akleTPQ

Vocalist Josep Brunet explains the track:

“This is a song about what our Mediterranean Sea was and what is nowadays… I mean, during the past times it was a sea to share, to grow, of course, there was a lot of wars, but it was our true nation, of all of us, so in this song appears eight different languages of our big cultural area (Greek, Maltese, Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, Italian, French, and Hebrew), and we had our friends and fans of the band do the vocals on it.

The lyrics for it are from a poem by Catalan writer, Miquel Martí I Pol, translated into these eight languages. The melodic vocals done by Julia Colom too are really awesome; we had goosebumps on our skin when she was recording her vocal parts. Very epic, gothic and very deep.”

“Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

The band adds:

“…Must be said that the Spaniards know how to deal with majestic pieces emotionally charged, that have nothing to envy what they can offer the leaders of this music (like Swallow the Sun or Draconian)…” – MetalShip (FRA – 9,4/10)

“”Aamamata is an experience that oozes with desolation and gloom, yet still provides that slightly uplifting feeling at the end of the day. Bone-crushing riffs that reverberate with emotion join up with some more introspective moments (see “Goodbye, Hope”) to bring in the contrast that bands like Daylight Dies and Novembers Doom have done so well, yet the structuring of both gives Helevorn a little wiggle room to reach for their own sweet spot. ” – Dead Rhetoric

“over the ensuing best part of an hour Helevorn gives a bravura performance, pulling every stop out of the doom/death bag of tricks to present one of the most sonically and emotionally exhaustive albums I’ve encountered in quite some time…I’ve rarely heard such an album; an album where pure riffery can at once spark feelings of real desolation and upset, yet still manages to leave the listener feeling sadly uplifted.” – Sentinel Daily

“Without a doubt, this will be on my Top Ten when the year ends.” – Broken Tomb Magazine”

“this is a really good album that will be among my doom metal favorites of 2019… The down-to-earth themes along with the obvious passion and attention to detail makes Helevorn one of the best active bands in the genre today.” – DeathDoom.com

“Aamamata is an stunning bit of work (and certainly makes me want to check out their back-catalogue). Everything works so well and it’s a very confident and coherent piece – Helevorn have done well here.” – Soundscape Magazine

“a seductive and mature album” – Metal Integral”

“There are goosebumping moments” – Twilight Magazin

“Magnificent album, highly recommended for all lovers of the genre and with many hidden stories inside. Enjoy it!” – TNT Radio Rock

“A really good album worth to check during this cold and dark winter time.” – Voices From The Darkside

“Aamamata is a disc composed of a set of songs of extreme melancholy and pain with suffered melodies, constituting desolating environments, black and often distressing. Doom metal of high category that fans of names like My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost or Draconian should not miss.” – Via Nocturna

“Spanish doom metal legends Helevorn return, with a new opus and some seriously kick-ass music. “A Sail To Sanity,” is definitive doom, bringing some seriously charged riffs, and a powerful  range of melody, the perfect opener.” – The Median Man

“Totally surrendered to its deeper, melancholy, elegant and sincere doom metal, the Balearics give us a work of art from its very cover to the last note of ‘La Sibil·la’. An album that pays tribute to the Mediterranean and everything that unites us, drawing bridges before a darker world. “- Goatia Media

“Aamamata is a bit more epic, more intense and it keeps the personality of the previous albums.” – Permafrost.today

LONG BIO

Melancholic doom outfit Helevorn started in 1999 in Palma, Spain, and has been exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world ever since. They began their journey with a demo in 2000, “Prelude” that featured female vocals and followed the gothic doom formula. They were quickly accoladed by the press and they dove into writing, gigging and recording. In 2005 the first full length “Fragments” was released.

Touring extensively allowed them to bring dark and forlorn music all over Europe, and they were asked to contribute to the 2006 Katatonia tribute “December Songs”. The second studio album 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” saw their musical style evolve into a more intense and heavy sound, more forceful and deep, and was acknowledged as the second best doom metal album of the year by Metalstorm.net.

“Compassion Forlorn” was released in 2014; eight tracks full of human decay from deepest sentiments, and continued evolution in the compositions and the band’s sound. The accompaniment of the “Burden Me” video release firmly anchored Helevorn’s place in the global doom scene. With more and more fans craving the somber tones and dreary vocals, Helevorn brought their dramatic intensity to many European festivals including Dutch Doom Days, Gothoom Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, and Madrid is the Dark Fest.

The current lineup, consisting of Samuel Morales (guitars), Josep Brunet (vocals), Xavi Gil (drums), Enrique Sierra (keyboards), Sandro Vizcaino (guitars) and Guillem Morey (bass) are primed to release the fourth album “Aamamata” on January 23, 2019.

“We know that we are not discovering something new, but it’s how it sounds the 90’s goth-doom metal in the present times. It should be received like a piece to reborn the scene and to relate music and the decadence of Humankind through the drama of the refugees, that constantly are dying trying to escape from the hell that Western Countries put to them. We think that fans will love the new album.”
