Rockshots Records: Greek Prog/Power ILLUSORY Release New Video “A Poem I Couldn’t Rhyme”

New Album “Crimson Wreath” Out Now!

Greece’s prog power Illusory are sharing their new lyric video for the heroic rhapsody “A Poem I Couldn’t Rhyme” in support of their third album “Crimson Wreath” released on May 21st via Rockshots Records.

“This is a song with heavy riffing, a song where vocal lines are almost fighting against guitar and keys themes. However, the whole outcome gives you peace – finally! Based on a nightmare of a story or vice versa, this lyric video is filled with emotions and emphatical images, portraying a story which could easily be never-ending.” adds the band.

The lyric video for “A Poem I Couldn’t Rhyme” can be viewed on Rockshots Records YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/9x-aRn1wmxE

Having opened for such legendary acts Blue Oyster Cult, Warrel Dane, Geoff Tate, and Gus G, Illusory‘s new album “Crimson Wreath” is the next step in their widely praised evolution to follow 2016’s Polysllabic (7hard/7us) and 2013’s “The Ivory Tower” (The Leaders Records).

Melodic, riffy, cerebral, and complex “Crimson Wreath” is a very emotional and melodic release, yet heavy and strong at the same time. Both new fans and ones who have been listening to the band for years will indulge themselves in this latest offering of classic, progressive, epic, and thrashy performances. Lyrical themes found on “Crimson Wreath” are mostly anti-war, but the full length also includes a thematic unit consisting of three songs that deal with human loss.

“The band is thrilled! When we look back, from the first minute to the last one, from the moment we pressed record on the very first drum takes to the album wrap-up, we can’t stop thinking about all the things we set and done during those long hours of arranging every little album detail. “Crimson Wreath” has become a member of our discography and our most recent brainchild. And we are totally proud of it!”

Rockshots Records: ILLUSORY Release Music Video For Heroic Rhapsody “Ashes To Dust”

New Album “Crimson Wreath” Out Now!

Greece’s prog power Illusory are sharing their new music video for the heroic rhapsody “Ashes To Dust” in support of their third album “Crimson Wreath” released on May 21st via Rockshots Records. Illustrious actor/director Grigoris Valtinos is the leading man in the story, which exemplifies the essence of a fable across a path walked by the bravest and honored by the scholars of the world. This short film is about an epic manifesto, a darkening day to come and everlasting hope.

“Achilles! The greatest hero in Homer’s Iliad. A human war machine in the flesh. He was the inspiration for this specific song and this is the first time we actually pass the borders of Epic Metal. So much power engaged with melody as it was meant to be. Warriors shouts, battle vibes, seismic rhythm section, twin guitars, screaming high melody notes… and finally a glorious shivering narration from Mr. Grigoris Valtinos, a world-renowned famous Greek theatrical actor and director. It was such a huge honour to have him on board.” adds the band.

Canada’s The Wring released the new album“The Wring² Project Cipher” recently on May 28th. Founded by guitarist Don Dewulf, the studio project’s full length has something for everyone across the spectrums of classic heavy metal to progressive rock and features a lineup of guests that includes Marc Bonilla (Keith Emerson Band, California Transit Authority, Glenn Hughes), Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai), Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams), Jason Henrie, and Jason Sadites.

“The Wring² Project Cipher” is seven songs with one instrumental and six vocal tracks and is highly recommended for fans of Rush, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, and The Dead Daisies.

Dewulf adds about full length:

“I love prog music, but it can be a challenging listening task. I wanted to combine the interesting bits of prog with a strong melody and composition. You can rock out or geek out to this.”

Continuing to support the album’s reach to new fans, the band has put together a visual space odyssey in the form of a music video for the record’s opening track “Steelier”, which was inspired by one of Dewulf’s influences, Steely Dan.

“This song started with the pre-chorus – a very jazzy progression in the spirit of Steely Dan.  I named the rough early version Steelier in that context. When the lyrics came later, the story is about perseverance and wonder in the face of adversity so I thought the demo name was appropriate. The chorus is in odd time, but fits perfectly, something I love to do.”

The music video “Steelier” was created by Jason Henrie using the digital artwork of Don Mupasi (https://instagram.com/visualdon)   and can be watched and listened to via its premiere on Sonic Perspectives HERE.

About:
The Wring is a progressive rock project created in 2015 by guitarist Don Dewulf who had compiled a large inventory of compositions that he had fully demoed, just needing players to turn the demos into songs.  The project started out in a band format with local musicians and they released a debut self-titled album in 2017.

After a series of live dates sharing stages with Anvil, Diamond Head, and Dead Daisies, the band dissolved.  A chance conversation with Mikael Akerfeldt inspired Dewulf to forge ahead with new material, re-connecting with bassist Jason Henrie and engaging world-renowned musicians to perform, bringing the new songs to another level.

The result of that was “The Wring 2 – Project Cipher” releasing in 2021, which will feature album guests Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai), Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams), Jason Henrie, and Jason Sadites.

Always starting with a riff, Dewulf builds compositions that showcase his signature blend of classic heavy rock meets prog. The lyrics come after the music is done and are usually a targeted response to an interaction that has sparked anger. The translation of emotion into words is subtle, often belying the more aggressive undertones. Expect more from Dewulf with The Wring3 already in the recording stage!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 31, 2021

For fans of Symphony X, Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Queensryche, Nightwish

Rockshots Records: Finland Prog Power Ultimatium New Music Video “(Don’t) Fear The Silence”

New Album “Virtuality” Out Now!

Finland power proggers Ultimatium are sharing their new music video “(Don’t) Fear The Silence” in support of their epic theme album “Virtuality” released this past November via Rockshots Records.

Music Video – https://youtu.be/DfZgp-32Woo

The band comments on the track:

“(Don’t) Fear the Silence is the most beautiful and saddest song on the album. Heroes have lost one of their own and they must say goodbyes in order to prepare for the final battle against the villain… This song is the first acoustic ballad from Ultimatium, with the ending chorus bringing in all the instruments. Listeners beware: the song features a sudden, hidden bass solo!”

Ultimatium was birthed out the deep forests of Suomussalmi, Finland. Their 4th studio full-length “Virtuality” follows their independently released “Vis Vires Infinitus” (2015), “New Dawn” (2004, Mastervox Records), and “Hwainoo” (2008, Mastervox Records).

The premise behind “Virtuality” is an introduction of a storyline of four gamers getting stuck in a virtual reality game in a near-future setting. Packed with five amazing lead vocalists, Peter James Goodman (Conquest, ex-Virtuocity), Jukka Nummi (ex-Myon), Emily Leone, Tomi Viiltola (ex-Dreamtale, Perpetual Rage, Viilto) and Matti Auerkallio (Katra, Manzana, SoulFallen), “Virtuality” is a unique storyline about the virtual world, and the dangers of sharing everything in social media, along with up-tempo power metal songs combined with darker elements.

The story album is backed up with lots of background vocals, sound effects and a “narrator”/system voice synthesized with Amazon’s Alexa.

The album introduces the best parts of power and progressive metal combined, including easier up-tempo songs, but also long, progressive mid-tempo tracks. The songs take influence from such bands as Stratovarius, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Rainbow. Especially on tracks “Digital Tower” and “Ghost of Yesterday” where influences from Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore are easily heard.

Canada’s The Wring will be releasing the new album “The Wring² Project Cipher” on Friday, May 28th.

Before the album officially drops, The Wring has teamed up with TheProgSpace for the record’s full stream HERE.

Don Dewulf adds:
“I wrote a majority of the music. Marc Bonilla (vocals) tweaked words here and there to suit his phrasing and ‘melodic acquisition’. A friend of mine, Steve Kraus, wrote the lyrics for one of the songs. He is very verbose so I chopped and modded, but the brilliance is his. All the players on this album are diverse and really complement each other and the overall vibe. I find this album has enough proggy stuff for the geeks, but still plenty of melodies and rock riffery for the regular heavy music listener. For now, The Wring is a studio project and will remain that way for the immediate future. If I can assemble some players, I would love to take this to the live stage. I like to also mention, I have another full album of material in the works! Thank you for your support and please keep continuing to follow us for more music.”

“The Wring² Project Cipher” will be out on May 28, 2021.

Montreal, QC – May 14, 2021

For fans of Rush, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Queensryche, The Dead Daisies

Canada’s THE WRING Music Video “The Light” Off Upcoming Album “The Wring² Project Cipher”

Music Video Premiere via Bravewords

Album Guests ft. Marc Bonilla (Keith Emerson Band, California Transit Authority, Glenn Hughes),
Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai),
Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams),
Jason Henrie, Jason Sadites

The Wring is Don Dewulf and Don Dewulf is The Wring with a little help from some global music superstars. The progressive metal project will be releasing a new album entitled “The Wring² Project Cipher” on May 28th. The full length has something for everyone across the spectrums of classic heavy metal to prog plus features a lineup of guests that includes Marc Bonilla (Keith Emerson Band, California Transit Authority, Glenn Hughes), Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai), Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams), Jason Henrie, and Jason Sadites.

The Wring‘s next single “The Light” is showcased in a new music video to give a visual glimpse of the players inside a cool conceptual framework. The video was created by Wring bass player, Jason Henrie, using content clips from a couple of very talented video artists.

“The Wring² Project Cipher” was created with all hard rock and prog listeners in mind, regardless of how they approach music, as he explains:

“I love prog music, but it can be a challenging listening task. I wanted to combine the interesting bits of prog with a strong melody and composition. You can rock out or geek out to this. “The Light” is a very fun song to play. Lots of changes and riffs. This is one song where Marc Bonilla totally took the vocals in his own direction. I had a much heavier vision but he has a style that really works against the riffs and strange, shifting time signatures.”

Dewulf is proud of his music and it really shines through in the video and across the album. The video gives a great look at the technique and the passion of all of the musicians. The combined experience under Dewulf’s vision creates something truly unique, as he puts it, “if Geddy decided to shun the synthesizer and Alex became an acolyte of Dave Mustaine instead of Midge Ure, Rush might have sounded like this.”

Watch and listen to “The Light” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“The Wring² Project Cipher” is seven songs with one instrumental and six vocal tracks. It’s a rock record with bits of proggy and classic rock elements showcasing the diversity of the musicians along with complementing each other and the overall vibe. It is highly recommended for fans of Rush, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, and The Dead Daisies.

“The Wring² Project Cipher” will be out on May 28, 2021.

Canada’s THE WRING Band Playthrough “Cipher” Off Upcoming Album “The Wring² Project Cipher”

Album Guests ft. Marc Bonilla (Keith Emerson Band, California Transit Authority, Glenn Hughes),
Bryan Beller (Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Dethklok, Steve Vai),
Thomas Lang (Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Williams),
Jason Henrie, Jason Sadites

Don Dewulf is the creative mind behind The Wring, a musical adventure chock full of proggy riffs, angry lyrics, and a heavy dose of melody. He is releasing a second album this year, “The Wring² Project Cipher” that boasts the work of several seasoned, professional musicians, making this one of the top albums prog fans are going to want this year.

Dewulf is the sole songwriter of the project and he takes up guitar duties, but the album wouldn’t have come together without help from drummer Thomas Lang, vocalist Marc Bonilla, bassist Bryan Beller as well as bassist Jason Henrie who also played on The Wring’s first album. Guitarist Jason Sadites rounds out the line-up, playing a killer solo on one track. This incredible depth of players brings to life an album that has enough proggy stuff for the geeks, but still plenty of melodies and rock riffery for the regular heavy music listener.

Today, The Wring shares a playthrough video for the single “Cipher”, which captures the whole band performing the song from their personal home studios. A combination homage to Ruh’s “YYZ” and Mastodon’s “March of the Fire Ants”, the track is the only instrumental featured on the full length.

0 Rockshots Records: Finland Prog Power Ultimatium New Music Video “Digital Tower”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 19, 2021

For fans of Symphony X, Dream Theater, Stratovarius, Queensryche, Nightwish

Rockshots Records: Finland Prog Power Ultimatium New Music Video “Digital Tower”

New Album “Virtuality” Out Now!
Finland power proggers Ultimatium are sharing their new music video “Digital Tower” in support of their epic theme album “Virtuality” released this past November via Rockshots Records.

Music Video – https://youtu.be/PAyIWipJLYI

The band comments on the track:

“Digital Tower is a very aggressive, but low-tempo song, the heaviest and most symphonic song we’ve ever made. The song is heavily influenced by these three songs: Rainbow – Stargazer / Stratovarius – Season of Change / Black Sabbath – Heaven & Hell. And shows the full potential of the character sang by Jukka Nummi. As seen on the video, this song has very special meaning for Jukka since Matti gave him the full artistic freedom to use his Ronnie James Dio-vocalising style at full strength.”

0 BLOODSPORT (80s Metal Homage To Jean Claude Van Damme) Release Cassette Edition of EP “Lethal Tender”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 13, 2021

For fans of Helloween, Exciter, Queensryche, Judas Priest

BLOODSPORT (80s Metal Homage To Jean Claude Van Damme) Release Cassette Edition of EP “Lethal Tender”

L-R – Dragos B. – Guitar, Jan Loncik – Vocals + Drums & Bass (studio), Joey Kolsteren – Lead Guitar

What do you get when you combine Jean Claude Van Damme with classic 80’s metal? You get Bloodsport, a heavy metal tribute to the one and only Belgian martial artist/actor. Their first Ep “Kumite Attack” was released in 2018 and the year’s “Lethal Tender” is a cut above with tighter drumming, tighter riffing, better vocals, and A+ production! Fans of true heavy metal are digging right into it!

All Bloodsport lyrics and themes revolve around Jean-Claude Van Damme’s movies in the late 80s and early 90s, specifically focused on his martial arts films. “Lethal Tender” is inspired by Van Damme’s movie Lionheart, for those who haven’t seen it, you’re in for a wild ride! Bloodsport explains the track further:

“We were really wanting to continue with the Bloodsport movie theme because it’s such a hit movie for cult cinema, not to mention it’s Van Damme’s best in terms of action and authenticity! Alas, we decided not to focus too much on one film, as he has close to a dozen good martial arts films from that era, all of them totally awesome in their own way. We feel like our music acts as a second soundtrack to the films! They are completely and respectfully dedicated to the glory of those films.”

Bloodsport prides itself on tons of riffs, complex song structures, and very little repetition; they are highly recommended for fans of early Running Wild, Helloween, and Exciter.

“Lethal Tender” was released on March 12, 2021 via Nightstrike Records and is available as a limited edition cassette and CD along with a digital download at the following link: https://bloodsportband.bandcamp.com/album/lethal-tender

About:
Formed in early 2018 in Vancouver, Bloodsport is a band not only created to pay tribute to Jean-Claude Van Damme and all the exhilarating films he’s put out, but also to redefine the best aspects of 80s heavy metal and speed metal – the music many of us grew up with! Chock-full of fast riffing, crazy solos, pounding drums and, featuring Jan Loncik – one of the best metal vocalists in Canada – the trio can do no wrong! Bloodsport truly takes it to the next level, incorporating the odd time signature and unconventional song structure to their lengthy, riff-laden tunes. Welcome to the Kumite!
