Looking to witness a true retro psychedelic synth-rock experience with a progressive edge? Look no further because ELEKTRIC MISTRESS is here to deliver! Hailing from Halifax, Nova Scotia, ELEKTRIC MISTRESS covers a wide spectrum of sonic grooves and influences from the early pioneers of heavy riff rock such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd. Take a deep breath and ride the wave through a hypnotic haze of electric highs and sedated tones to take you back in time and return again.

ELEKTRIC MISTRESS began their journey through oblivion in 2018, creating a unique soundscape of stoner rock ignited with crunchy, groovy guitar riffs, bombastic drums, dirty keys, choice bass licks, and loud and raspy vocals. For those keen to experience what can best be described as ‘smoke rings in a blizzard’ the band’s debut self-titled EP is set for release this coming Friday, July 19th and promises to be a solid offering of tunes suitable for those looking for a classic stoner rock vibe and also those that are more experimental minded.

The first step can only be taken when the last toke has been drawn and ELEKTRIC MISTRESS is ready to unveil their single ‘Turn To Grey’ off their upcoming debut self-titled EP due out on July 19th. Channeling the energy of inspirations such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd the stoner rock quintet from Halifax, Canada is all about the groove.

ELEKTRIC MISTRESS is face punching psychedelic rock firmly rooted in what has come before, and also looking ahead, their single ‘Turn To Grey’ is described as ‘smoke rings in a blizzard’. They go on to tell listeners what to expect from the track:

“Perhaps the most “progressive” song on the recording, it starts the EP with an ominous psyche drone, and builds from mellow trippiness to full on smoke rings in a goddamn blizzard.”

Each track on the EP has a unique sound and showcases their varied influences and songwriting abilities with riffing low guitar/bass chug fused with B3/Rhodes/Synth sounds, the EP tries to recapture the retro rock sound of the 70s with a modern tinge and stands as a tribute to the band’s early influences.

“If I had to describe the album in one word it would be: fun. There are plenty of head-boppin’ moments and there’s a really nice flow that takes you from earth to the stars and back in less than an hour. We got sweet fuzzed-out guitar tones, harmonies, melodies, hooks…and gongs! It’s a nice ride. And embedded throughout are certain words and phrases designed to elicit new ideas, widen the field of perception, and inspire a more cosmic outlook on life. Which is also fun. Especially on acid. It’s an incredible place to be as an artist: creatively free, without any limitations, so we can offer the world our fun and fuzzy freakadelic rock music.”

“One Hallucination Under God” follows the band’s two previous albums “Skylight” (2016) and “One Day All This Will Be Yours” (2011). The band is the psychedelic brainchild of UK-born Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist David Lines; joined on his creative journey by disciple of the Rickenbaker bass Thomas Chollet, and virtuoso drummer Dom Salameh.

They are a trio of sonic alchemists that together create a chemical wedding of cosmic chords, constantly seeking the philosopher’s stone of the perfect psychedelic song…and as we all know, it’s not the journey…it’s the trip, which they certainly do well taking listeners on a ride to the center of the psyche with their superb mind-expanding music created for all the right reasons. The band is inspired by The Beatles (66,67), Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Byrds.

And A Devil’s Din certainly takes listeners on a trip…a journey to the center of the psyche with their superb mind-expanding music created for all the right reasons. Inspired by The Beatles (66,67), Syd Barret-era Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Byrds, Lines describes his band’s music as ‘adventurous, transcendent, melodic, esoteric, rockin’!”.

A Devil’s Din has two fine albums under their collective kaftans, “One Day All This Will Be Yours” (2011) and “Skylight” (2016), and now, as though creating a trans-dimensional triptych, they unleash “One Hallucination Under God”.

“A Devil’s Din plays a form of rock music that takes cues from both psychedelic and progressive styles. “‘Eternal Now’ opens the album. It’s an upbeat song with a snazzy guitar riff and verse sung in three-part harmony. The chorus is the closest thing we have to a pop song, but when pop wasn’t a disposable, corporate-driven product. Overall, the theme of the album is about ‘Perception Versus Reality,’ how our world is essentially a subjective experience and a reflection of our individual thoughts and judgments. This idea is perhaps best expressed by semanticist Alfred Korzybski’s dictum, ‘The map is not the territory.’ Songs like ‘Sea of Time,’ ‘Eternal Now,’ ‘Where Do We Go?’ and the title-track all touch on this theme: how we are born into a reality and then conditioned into accepting that this version of reality is ‘it’… And anyone who’s been on the Psychedelic Path will tell you otherwise.”

A DEVIL’S DIN is made up of 3 musicians born in the Old World who traveled across the ocean to find each other in Montreal, QC where they were drawn together by a mutual love of melodic, innovative, inventive and daring rock / metal tinged music. Fusing the colourful sounds of Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd & the psychedelic-era Beatles with intensity of classic power bands like Sabbath, The Who, and Led Zeppelin, as well as the boundary-pushing adventure of Yes, Gentle Giant and King Crimson, A DEVIL’S DIN is an uncommon and uncompromising voice in modern music.

Debuting their album ‘One Day All This Will Be Yours’ in 2011, it has been a trippy five years since fans have heard new material from the psychedelic rockers. Hitting the studio in 2014, they now return with their 2016 follow up ‘Skylight’ out now officially as of June 17th to take fans on a new trip.

Vocalist / guitarist David Lines comments on the album:

“Essentially this album is really a tribute to the psychedelic experience. I drew on my own personal involvement with certain consciousness-expanding substances to create a set of songs that would take the listener on a journey, both lyrically and musically. Within these 9 songs there exists a certain contrast between the hallucinatory and the heavy. Obviously we also owe a lot of this album’s influence to another era, not just by sound and texture, but by the spirit of adventure, daring and experimentation that was prevalent then and bring all of that to the world today, right now.”

Bassist Tom G. Stout also adds “Even though we are inspired by LSD trips, we still like to hit hard, and enjoy getting a little aggressive. You have to balance out the light with the darkness, because otherwise you’re not being real.”

About:

In 2008, UK-born stalwart Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist and session musician David Lines decided he needed to form a musical outfit that would suit his own particular psychedelically-induced musical visions, and thus A Devil’s Din was born. While still working as a musical “gun-for-hire” around town, he continued to develop the songs and sound for A Devil’s Din–which he considers an Art Project not to be tainted by commercial desires–recording their first album One Day All This Will Be Yours between 2009 and 2010, and releasing it on his own label Island Dive Records in 2011.

Though the musicians on that record were excellent, it wasn’t until Lyonnais bassist and disciple of the Holy Trinity of Rickenbacker Bass (John Entwistle, Chris Squire and Geddy Lee) Thomas Chollet entered the picture, along with drummer Dom Salameh (whose being born in Abu Dhabi did not at all prevent him from becoming an ardent Keith Moon devotee) that the sound really began to take shape. The synergy of the three took the music to another level, as witnessed at their intense and energetic live shows and has been made manifest on the new A Devil’s Din album SKYLIGHT that is set for release on June 17th, 2016.

A Devil’s Din continues to travel further afield in the world of psychedelic and progressive rock music, transforming listeners’ minds where ever they go.

Their first European tour will take place in September and their albums are available through various retailers on line and through their website www.ADevilsDin.com.

Debuting their album ‘One Day All This Will Be Yours’ in 2011, it has been a trippy five years since fans have heard new material from the psychedelic rockers. Hitting the studio in 2014, they now return with their 2016 follow up ‘Skylight’ set for official release on June 17th to take fans on a new trip.

Vocalist / guitarist David Lines comments on the track:

“Phaze Ulysses” is the second track on the album and a continuation of the album’s theme, which is about growth and discovery on the psychedelic journey. It’s probably our most upbeat tune on the record, with a really fun, driving guitar riff that opens up the track. The beat is almost like those classic “bug beats” from the 60’s, but the chords move in unusual ways, creating the space for unexpected, but really hooky melody. And over-all, it’s pretty heavy! It’s about opening your mind, but not being too stressed about it. “You don’t have too see the light, just scrutinize the glow.” No one expects you to become a Buddha, at least make the effort to not be an asshole.” comments vocalist/ guitarist David Lines

Debuting their album ‘One Day All This Will Be Yours’ in 2011, its been a trippy five years since fans have heard new material from the psychedelic rockers. Hitting the studio in 2014, they now return with their 2016 follow up ‘Skylight’set for official release on June 17th to take fans on a new trip. The first single / video released is the album’s opening and title track, which can be seen and heard in the following video link below. Album pre-order available atwww.ADevilsDin.com.

Vocalist / guitarist David Lines comments on the track:

“The heavy, fuzzed-out guitar riff leaps right out of the starting gate and sets the vibe for the rest of the song, which is the general theme of the album, an ode to the psychedelic experience we like to present. I wanted to write a song that illustrated some of the things I’ve seen or experienced under the influence of acid. It truly is a subjective reality that we’re all living and you can’t really get to know that concept any better than when you’re dosed out of your gills. It [LSD] has had such a huge impact on my being; it’s helped me see the world differently, more connected, and helped me realize that we are energy masquerading as flesh and bone. So anyways, I wanted to put all this in a little rock song as a kind of a “thank you” to the chemical. If Albert Hoffman was still alive, I would have loved to have him hear it! To add, musically, ‘Skylight’ at its core, is a straightforward psych/rock nugget, but it is adorned with tasty guitar melodies that interweave with a very hooky vocal melody, something that the songwriting of A Devil’s Din works hard at creating. I like melodies that go places, that stretch out over bar or two, or more. In the end, it’s things like the Beatles or even Burt Bacharach that wind up inspiring me to conceive of long, twisty melodies, that hopefully will burrow in your ear and stay a while!”
