Orchestral blackened death metal outfit Vortex has emerged from the void with their most ambitious release with their next concept record “Alien Realms”, set for release on April 11th, 2025, alongside the first single “When Humans Defy the Void”. With this release, they also announce eastern Canada tour dates with France’s XAON for April followed by European dates in October and November. They comment on the single:

“This song is a melodic assault, blending thrash-driven verses, hyper-melodic choruses, and an epic finale, all immersed in grand, sweeping orchestrations. Bold and daring, humans leave Earth in search of intelligent extraterrestrial life. This track is divided into three distinct sections: the thrashy, aggressive verses; the ultra-melodic choruses; and the glorious, epic ending.”

The band further explains that “Alien Realms” is a natural progression from their previous work. They’ve enhanced the orchestral elements while pushing deeper into blackened death metal territory. The EP explores humanity’s venture into space in search of intelligent life, though what they discover isn’t quite what they expected.

Known for their ability to seamlessly blend technical prowess with emotional depth, Vortex promises performances that showcase both crushing intensity and melodic sophistication. This can be witnessed at one of their live shows or felt through the song “When Humans Defy the Void”. They are recommended for fans of Septicflesh, Shadow of Intent, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

About Vortex:

Vortex is a symphonic Death Metal band from Quebec, Canada, and is comprised of seasoned musicians with an abundance of studio and live experience. Their masterful lyric writing is equally matched with their prowess in devising riffs, and orchestrations.

Vortex music is filled with heavy riffing and melodies, technical vocals, and epic soloing. They will transport the listener into a new world and are recommended for fans of Lorna Shore, Shadow of Intent, Dimmu Borgir, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

In June 2023, Vortex released “The Future Remains In Oblivion”, their third epic concept album set to aggressive and beautiful orchestral melodic death metal with hints of black metal. Each song on the album is one chapter in their well-written sci-fi tale and there is a build-up in intensity and emotion that goes along with the storyline and the lyrics as you traverse the album. VORTEX is gearing up to release a new 5-song EP and hit the road in 2025 alongside the talented band XAON. They will be supporting each other on a tour across Canada in April 2025 and Europe in October-November 2025.

About XAON:

XAON. An elusive name born in the Alpine Might. Never quite fitting in any of the numerous galleries metal has to offer, drifting through the extremes whilst juxtaposing finesse and vehemence from an unworldly orchestra, endlessly exploring the vast echoic gloominess of the human mind.

In only a few short years, the combo has managed to step foot on 3 continents through the release of their debut album “The Drift”, notably across Europe with gothic metal monsters SIRENIA and folk metal legends TYR, in Japan with OBSCURA and ARCHSPIRE, in the US with THE VEER UNION, and sharing the stage in festivals across Europe with bands such as MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, GOJIRA, PARADISE LOST, ELUVEITIE and many more. In 2019, XAON came back with their critically acclaimed 2nd album “Solipsis” and raged across Europe with SEPTICFLESH and KRISIUN and distinguished themselves as an extremely powerful live act.

On July 1st, 2022, XAON released their new magnum opus, “The Lethean”, bringing the band’s grandiose aggressiveness to a whole new level, pummeling their way through a cataclysmic atmosphere while reaching a new majestic apotheosis. This record got them to play at the mighty WACKEN OPEN AIR 2023.

Canadian singer-songwriter Nate Silva is kicking off Eastern Canadian tour dates in support of his debut rock album “The Chase” released on May 3rd. On this first full-length, Silva revisits some of his earlier musical inspirations including 1990s alternative post-grunge and dance rock vibes and acoustic, folky melodies. After years of leading bands and freelancing with various artists, he felt compelled to embark on a new musical journey. Compared to his work in other bands, the writing process for “The Chase” was much more stripped down and each one of the tracks was a learning experience on the direction he wanted to take his music.

“There’s definitely an explicit channeling of a lot of the 90s alternative and rock bands that I used to be into when I was younger in this album. Those bands and styles were certainly integral – more than I probably realize – so I think it has a nostalgic quality for that era of rock music. The album is also a look into some of the darker parts of grief and heartbreak that I was experiencing leading up to the beginning of the pandemic; experiencing the actual pandemic itself, and just trying to persevere one’s creative integrity through such a strange moment in society for everyone. So it’s also a very personal reflection of what I was dealing with during the creative process.” adds Silva.

Combining rock anthems with introspective folk songs, “The Chase” is a varied introspective offering from Silva, that is approachable and easy to enjoy. He joins forces with drummer/vocalist Matt Babineau and bassist/vocalist Dan Joseph, to form a trio that delivers a unique and catchy listening experience. It is recommended for fans of Foo Fighters and Danko Jones.

IVY GARDENS Continues Their Stoner Barrage With Video “Stoic” To Kick Off Canadian Tour (ON, QC, NB, NS, PEI)

New Album “Goon” Out Now!

Ivy Gardens, the grunge powerhouse from Niagara, Canada, stands as a testament to complete collaboration and total honesty. Formed on Ivy Gardens Crescent, the band’s journey began with a shared passion for crafting music that resonates with sonic belligerence and intensity. They have recently released their album “Goon” and have a supporting tour coming up quickly. In the meantime, they are dropping a new music video for the single “Stoic”, which they comment on:

“Stoic is our most lyrically packed song on the album as well as rhythmically unique. Bouncing between hard-hitting dirges, biting riffs, and quick, jumping rhythms, the song explores the perspective of someone with a lot of self-destructive behaviour, who still manages to find peace through it. The titular Stoic, while seemingly devoted to his philosophy, uses it more as a tool, and even an excuse.”

Every song on “Goon” is a result of complete collaboration, with each member contributing to the skeleton of a song. Within, listeners will be met with the grooves of stoner metal, the crushing nature of sludge, the muscular energy of nu metal, and the attitude of good ol’ fashioned doom.

Just like the album, an Ivy Garden’s gig doesn’t disappoint. They are headed out on tour shortly and will be bringing sonic belligerence, and euphoria through volume to cities across the region. Their vulgar, punky “dog ass music” is recommended for fans of Truckfighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Nirvana.

Watch and listen to via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Goon” was released on April 19th, 2024, and is available at the following links:

“…the sonic equivalent of a panic attack.” – Canadian Beats

“Stoner metal, a little chilled sounding, but fast paced, cool stuff.” – Mosh Pit – WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

““Boner” has got a really cool groove, too, showing you what can happen when you’ve got a band that is truly possessed by the power of The Riff. It’s one of those grinding, motoriffic jobs in the spirit of Kyuss’ “Green Machine.” And it doesn’t take long before we, too, are caught under its sway. The retro organ sound from the keys provides a spooky touch to the chorus, which comes like a sigh of relief after the tense build-up of those guitar-driven verses. The drumming is swarmy and frenetic, and strikes with power at pivotal moments. The breakdown at 4 minutes is a headbanging oasis, made even cooler with the synthesizer’s late-’60s garage twist.” – Doomed and Stoned

“This Canadian trio are promising us a debut album that is “a relentless onslaught of vulgar, belligerent punk, sludge and sweat” when it is released in April. If this lead single is anything to go by, things are going to get very belligerent and sweaty when the full-lengther finally hits our death decks.” – Uber Rock”GOON is an action packed and turbocharged release powered by Pissed Off grooves and a snarling Punk Rock Attitude which allows IVY GARDENS to deliver a devastating FREAKY slice of Psychedelic Sludge/Stoner Metal.” – Outlaws of The Sun

Canadian singer-songwriter Nate Silva is now releasing his debut rock album “The Chase” in which he revisits some of his earlier musical inspirations including 1990s alternative post-grunge and dance rock vibes and acoustic, folky melodies. At the same time, he is releasing a video for the title track. He comments:

“Lyrically, it’s a very personal album. I went through a tough breakup before writing this – probably the hardest breakup in my life – so I was healing from that when writing the lyrics, and it shows. The act of writing these lyrics and putting them into songs was also part of the healing process for me – to get those feelings out and express it through song was therapeutic in itself.”

Reflecting on his transition to a solo career, he also mentions that this project emerged from a period of personal and creative evolution. After years of leading bands and freelancing with various artists, he felt compelled to embark on a new musical journey. Compared to his work in other bands, the writing process for “The Chase” was much more stripped down and each one of the tracks was a learning experience on the direction he wanted to take his music.

Breaking the mold of traditional musical experiences, Ivy Gardens unleashes a belligerent musical atmosphere punctuated with sweat, sludge, and grunge. In 2021, Ivy Gardens embarked on a mission to create an album that mirrors their electrifying live performances—a fusion of relentless energy, unexpected surprises, and a euphoric climax. Their new album “Goon” is out now and it will take listeners on a journey through unexpected twists and turns. The band comments on the album:

“The time has finally come to release our baby into the world. A crazed, feral infant frothing at the mouth. A year in the making, this is our record, our voice. While our self-titled debut served as a mission statement, this follow-up takes things to a whole new level and we can’t wait to get in your ears. We consider Goon to be a historical document. At a particular point in space and time, somewhere in a sweaty basement in Southern Ontario, we achieved a sound. Sonic belligerence, and euphoria through volume.”

Since their first self-titled EP, Ivy Gardens has got bigger amps and tuned their guitars lower. They’ve written faster songs, they’ve written heavier songs. And then they hammered them out across Ontario and the east coast of Canada until they were beaten into shape.

“Goon” was mixed by Joe Zandwyk, mastered by Audrey Leyenhorst and the album artwork was done by Sebastian Hogg. Ivy Gardens operates under a golden rule: the “dollar to decibel ratio”. They almost exclusively use old junk amplifiers and speaker cabs. Old Peavey garbage, fished from some old fart’s garage jam space, is not only the secret sauce in their sound, but also the only possible way for them to accomplish the task of CRUSHING volume under a budget of $0.

“Goon” is a rip-roaring good time, and it can be experienced now on digital format as well as live during their upcoming tour dates (listed below). Those who enjoy Soundgarden, Kyuss, and Truckfighters should take note.

“…the sonic equivalent of a panic attack.” – Canadian Beats

If this lead single is anything to go by, things are going to get very belligerent and sweaty when the full-lengther finally hits our death decks.” – Uber Rock

“GOON is an action packed and turbocharged release powered by Pissed Off grooves and a snarling Punk Rock Attitude which allows IVY GARDENS to deliver a devastating FREAKY slice of Psychedelic Sludge/Stoner Metal.” – Outlaws of The Sun

Progressive Metallers OMNIVIDE Shares Guitar Playthrough For Album Title Track “A Tale of Fire”

Eastern Canadian Tour Dates (NB, NS, QC, ON)

Unleashing their debut album “A Tale of Fire” this past March, Moncton, New Brunswick’s Ominivide blend their favourite elements from progressive metal, technical death, and symphonic/power metal to present very heavy/dark riffs, along with very grandiose/more epic orchestral instruments, as well as lighter/cleaner sections with clean vocals.

Lyrically, the songs on “A Tale of Fire” are broadly about Omnivide trying to understand death, both as a tragedy and a natural part of life, the pain it brings, and the resilience that can be born from it. They use storytelling in some songs as a vehicle for this, and since they love fantasy media, the content of these stories has fantasy elements, while also weaving in deeper concepts of death, hardship, regret, and growth. Other songs revolve around historical figures, while others are mostly metaphorical, but all are linked together by this exploration of all aspects of death.

As the band is just beginning their Eastern Canadian Tour (dates listed below), the band is showcasing the shred with their latest guitar playthrough video for the album’s title track.

“This song was written by Nicolas and begins with a choir and orchestral intro that slowly builds into developing melodies in a manner similar to classical music. The intro makes the listener anticipate the arrival of the rest of the band, and when the full band does kick in, there is a sense that the song is going to metaphorically explode. There are a lot of old classical music techniques like counterpoint and dual melodies that make this song very tech-death until it slows down in the middle to make it more thrash sounding. The goal was to write more melodies with the keyboards and orchestral instruments to have the song be less guitar-oriented compared to the other songs on the album even though the guitar definitely has a lot going on. This song starts and ends with an orchestral arrangement only, almost like a storm passing by. Lyrically, this song is a metaphor for someone or something who has completely lost control of themselves, being completely overwhelmed by their emotions, like a fire destroying everything in its path.” adds the band.

“The compositions on the album are as tenacious and imposing as the angles in the band’s logo. Each song packs a list of surprises that are like colorful candy being fed to you just when you are beginning to get hungry. Obviously talented, the quartet never lets their talent outshine their songwriting, although the flashes they do show will leave you speechless. How is this band not signed to a major record label?” 9/10 – Metal-Temple

“The mix of styles in the material on “A Tale of Fire” speaks volumes to me. Debut albums are always a great stepping stone for bands, and I hope this landmark moment will spur them on. I am sure they have plenty of ideas in their locker and I look forward to hearing more from them. 9/10” – The Prog Space

“The vast swirling and shimmering sounds that open the new song (Csomic Convergence) quickly encompass the expanse and wonder of the cosmos, but the heavy punching throb of the bass and electrifying percussive acrobatics presage something different on the way — and the change arrives in a sudden flurry of rapidly darting notes, furiously hammering drums, and scalding snarls — which suddenly trade places with sky-high singing. It’s a head-spinning experience, with many moving parts that spin and shift with thrilling speed, eventually overlaid with keys that resemble a glorious heavenly choir whose tones contrast with the ravenous growls and manic instrumental intensity beneath them. Although the rhythm section continue to kick up a storm, the music seems to become even more magnificent and sweeping — until the intensity erupts in blistering blast-beats, unhinged screams, synths that sear, and a thoroughly mind-bending guitar solo at the finale. It’s the kind of closing spectacle that will put your heart in your throat.” – No Clean Singing

“Canadian quintet Omnivide started life as an Opeth tribute band before changing lanes and writing their own music. A Tale Of Fire is the band’s debut album, promising to deliver engaging progressive metal that fans of Alkaloid, Obscura, and, yes, Opeth will enjoy. There are a lot of styles and influences at play here, and Omnivide aim to keep the listener engaged throughout. The band succeeds wonderfully – and no, despite their history they do not come off merely as old Opeth imitators. The symphonic element present is tastefully done, the arrangements are all what one would expect from a more established band, and the performances are all outstanding. Overall, A Tale Of Fire is an excellent debut, and Omnivide are firmly on my radar going forward. In fact, if it wasn’t for Big Big Train this would have been our pick of the month. 4/5” – The Progress Report – Heavy Music Headquarters

“With “A Tale of Fire”, Omnivide have crafted a bold, layered and compelling debut album marking themselves as a worthy addition to the Heavy Metal ‘Omni’ bands/albums and to the thriving Death Metal scene in Canada. Through clever songwriting and outstanding musicianship (seriously, check out the band’s ‘Opulence’ playthrough), they combine elements familiar to the genre in an engrossing way that rewards repeat listens. It may still be early in the year, but OMNIVIDE have put forth a very strong entry for Tech/Prog Death in 2024.” – Mostly Metal

“I enjoyed A Tale of Fire, as it was lively, cerebral, and still intense to-boot with the wailing guitar leads, proggy synth section, and harsh death metal vocals. I think that people who enjoy melodic synth death metal will flip for this album. It’s got the harsher elements of Obscura and Black Daliah Murder with the musical eccentricities of Haken and Devin Townsend, something that makes for an enjoyable listen.” – Metal Epidemic

“Throughout A Tale of Fire, Omnivide showcases their musical diversity and storytelling prowess, providing one with a deeply satisfying and rewarding listening experience. From the highs of intense heaviness to the lows of emotional introspection, A Tale of Fire invites one to immerse themselves in its intricacies and complexities.” – Amplify The Noise

Born on a quiet street named Ivy Gardens Crescent, Ivy Gardens emerged from humble beginnings with an unwavering passion for creating music that resonates with raw energy and volume. Originally formed under a different name, the band, hailing from Niagara, Ontario, Canada, underwent a transformative journey. In 2020, fueled by their collective experiences as young musicians, Ivy Gardens took root and blossomed into a force to be reckoned with. With an EP already under their belts, they are gearing up to release their new album “Goon” on April 19. Ahead of this release, they are premiering the title track, which they comment on:

“Goon is a song that was written with the intention of being both rhythmically intricate, but ultimately danceable. Where the verses are filled with screaming lyrics from the point of view of a struggling addict, the chorus takes a more melodic approach, as the person in question experiences the ecstasy that comes with getting their fix. This song is filled with sonic surprises, and we hope it serves as a sweet release for all those “goons” out there.”

To support this album, Ivy Gardens will be embarking on a tour through Eastern Canada (dates listed below) and each stop promises to be a rip-roaring good time. One of their gigs is typically 30 to 40 unbroken minutes of high-energy, heavy-hitting music at a crushing volume. Beaten-to-hell drums, throbbing bass synth, searing organ, and a liquid wall of guitar sludge. One song flows immediately into the next.

Ivy Gardens wastes no time, gets the audience involved, and provides an immersive, belligerent, good time full of sweat, sludge, and grunge. They are recommended for fans of Truckfighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Nirvana.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Goon” via its premiere on Outlaws of The Sun HERE.

“Goon” is out April 19th, 2024, and available for album pre-order at https://ivygardens.bandcamp.com.

Omnivide, the Canadian progressive metal act, formed in 2020 and is ready to release its debut album “A Tale of Fire”. Musically, the album is a blend of their favourite elements from progressive metal, technical death, and symphonic/power metal. There are some very heavy/dark riffs, some very grandiose/more epic sections with lots of orchestral instruments, as well as lighter/cleaner sections with clean vocals. The band expands:

“We are extremely excited to finally share this album with the world. We started working on the first songs in 2019, so this has been in the making for a long time now. We had to learn a lot during those years to achieve our vision, from songwriting to audio engineering and production, and we wanted to make sure that we put out something we’d be truly happy with, which is why the process took so long. We don’t expect the next album to take nearly as long, let’s put it that way!”

With plans for future releases, Omnivide promises to continue pushing the boundaries of its musical exploration, offering fans an evolving and captivating experience. The band encourages fans to expect another album or EP within two years of this release, as they are already immersed in the creation of new material. “A Tale of Fire” is recommended for fans of Alkaloid, Devin Townsend, and Obscura.

Due out on March 22, 2024, “A Tale of Fire” can be heard via its full stream premiere on Bravewords HERE.
