Unleashing their debut album “Race Against Time” this past January, Ottawa’s instrumental progressive metal trio THE DEAD CENTURIES’ full length features ten tracks of melodic, high energy and refreshing material. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, their release is full of hook and sinker compositions, shining guitar riffs and overall escapades through their instrumental progressive metal. Teaming up with GearGods.net, THE DEAD CENTURIES are showcasing their shredding chops with their fist guitar playthrough for “Reboot”.

“Reboot follows our second track “Gotham” on the release, but incorporates heavier elements bridging melodic sections. Near the end, Reboot features a harmonized lead section, which then continues with a harmonized guitar solo over top. The main idea is to bombard the listener with fast, melodic, dense, energy before closing with a chorus, which doesn’t give the listener the expected harmonic resolution.” comments guitarist Adam Tremblett.

“The album title “Race Against Time” is loosely representative of the experience writing, recording, and preparing the collection of songs. Throughout the process there have been band member changes, last minute rewrites, and several other testing circumstances. These have only served to further determine The Dead Centuries to release a high quality release that truly represents the band as a whole.”

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio, the trio premiere their second single “Attack of The Mutant” that features a guest guitar solo from Jeff Tremblett, brother of TDC guitarist Adam Tremblett.


Adam Tremblett adds:

“’Attack of the Mutant’ is the heaviest song of the album thus far, using down tuned guitar and bass along with dissonant harmony to give the feeling of tension throughout the introduction. This tension is then resolved by a melodic, upbeat chorus which leads into another heavy section, followed by a guitar solo, and the album’s first guest solo. The song ends with several heavy parts, with the final section building into an extremely dissonant broken ‘computer’ sounding part.”

“Overdrive is a very melodic, upbeat song, with the focus being on fun singable melodies. Starting with a half tempo clean theme, the song then picks up, keeping the melody, but adding heavier rhythm and more energy. There are several guitar harmonies throughout, a staple of the album. The song also features the album’s second guest, James Krul (Mandroid Echostar), again by way of a guitar solo trade off.”

Formed in 2011 as a jam project by three fellow music students, the group has gone on to release several singles and EPs independently, while having the opportunity to share the stage with great metal acts like Protest the Hero, Intervals, Black Crown Initiate, and Mandroid Echostar. The group pride themselves on their infusion of multiple musical styles into hard-hitting riffs, epic choruses, and technically intense passages. Soaring melodies, guttural growls, and destructive breakdowns flow into soft, slow, and pensive segments of jazz and rock. Their compositional method, where songs are conceived, written, transcribed, and edited before they are ever learned or rehearsed, adds a level of refinement and fluidity not always found in heavier music. The band do almost all of their engineering work themselves, but have also worked with several talented producers. Their first EP T (June 2014), comprised of four previously released singles and one new song, featured the mixing and mastering handiwork of Gino Bambino (Novallo) and Justin Hill (SikTh). Their single Resurface (December 2014) was handled by George Lever (Burials).

Formed in 2011 as a jam project by three fellow music students, the group has gone on to release several singles and EPs independently, while having the opportunity to share the stage with great metal acts like Protest the Hero, Intervals, Black Crown Initiate, and Mandroid Echostar. The group pride themselves on their infusion of multiple musical styles into hard-hitting riffs, epic choruses, and technically intense passages. Soaring melodies, guttural growls, and destructive breakdowns flow into soft, slow, and pensive segments of jazz and rock. Their compositional method, where songs are conceived, written, transcribed, and edited before they are ever learned or rehearsed, adds a level of refinement and fluidity not always found in heavier music. The band do almost all of their engineering work themselves, but have also worked with several talented producers. Their first EP T (June 2014), comprised of four previously released singles and one new song, featured the mixing and mastering handiwork of Gino Bambino (Novallo) and Justin Hill (SikTh). Their single Resurface (December 2014) was handled by George Lever (Burials).

Fredericton, New Brunswick five piece progressive metal band TACTUS are proud to unleash their debut full length ‘Bending Light’ out now as of October 7th. The album features ten outer limit prog tracks produced by the band with mixing and mastering by Jamie King (Between The Buried In Me, Paradise Lost, Scale The Summit) to follow their previously released EPs ‘ins(T)rumental’ (2015) and ‘T’ (2014) plus singles ‘Enigma’ and their metal cover of The Police’s ‘Roxanne’.

“Aurora is the first full song on Bending Light. We wanted to kick the album off with something fast and heavy to get the momentum going, and we started writing Aurora with that purpose in mind. We loved the first few riffs so much though that we just kept writing more and more, and it evolved into one of the longer and more progressive songs on the album.”

“Goliath is one of the longest song’s we’ve ever written, and it actually went through the most iterations and re-writes of any song on the album. We think it captures some of the more progressive spirit of Bending Light, and is a great reflection of the directions in which we want to push our music in the future. We were beyond honoured to have incredible guitarist and our good friend Didier Archambault of Cardinals Pride put the cherry on top with the first guitar solo on the track.”

The album features ten outer limit prog tracks produced by the band with mixing and mastering by Jamie King (Between The Buried In Me, Paradise Lost, Scale The Summit) to follow their previously released EPs ‘ins(T)rumental’ (2015) and ‘T’ (2014) plus singles ‘Enigma’ and their metal cover of The Police’s ‘Roxanne’.

“We chose ‘Scimitar’ to be the first ambassador for ‘Bending Light’ because even though it’s shorter and more accessible, it still showcases some of the weird progressiveness of the album. It’s consistently fast and upbeat plus as one of our favourites to play, we thought it was a great way to introduce everyone to the new Tactus.”
