MetalInjection Premiere Violin Progressive Metal CYDEMIND’s VIVALDI Cover In Stunning Music Video “Winter”

After releasing their debut album “Erosion” in 2017 and writing the videogame soundtrack of NavyBlue and the Spectrum Killers in 2018, CYDEMIND is back with a new single and music video called “Winter”. The song is an arrangement of one of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Season violin concertos.

Watch “Winter” via MetalInjection.net at the following link: http://www.metalinjection.net/video/cydeminds-violin-metal-shred-was-made-for-winter-in-this-beautiful-video

As the Montreal-based quintet is led by classical violinist Olivier Allard, it was natural for the band to showcase its classical sound in this music video.

“It’s always been in CYDEMIND’s side-projects to make metal covers of classical music pieces, says Olivier. What better way to start than with one of my favorite violin concertos by Vivaldi!”

Co-directors Vincent Allard and Juliette Guerin hopped in the project without hesitation:

“Vivaldi’s Winter violin concerto is already such a cinematic piece with lots of contrast. It was a great challenge to find landscapes that could match both our view of Quebec’s winter while maintaining CYDEMIND’s highly energetic approach to the piece.”

The video was shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada. Scheduled to be filmed in March 2018, the project was postponed to February 2019 due to bad weather.

“As much as we had no luck last year, karma was on our side this year, says guitarist Kevin Paquet. The weather was fabulous, I think it definitely highlights the splendor of our Canadian winters.”

“Winter” was recorded at The Grid studio in collaboration with producer Christian Donaldson (The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Beyond Creation). The artwork was created by CYDEMIND’s own drummer Alexandre Dagenais.

“Winter” is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, and all other major platforms, where you can also find CYDEMIND’s debut album Erosion (2017).

About:
In a world where so much music is bland and generic, CYDEMIND is a breath of fresh air! Mixing progressive rock, jazz, classical, and progressive metal, Montreal-based CYDEMIND is a special and unique band, one we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future. Influenced by such bands as Dream Theater. Symphony X. Haken, Neal Morse Band, and jazzmen like Avishai Cohen and Tigran Hamasyan, violinist Olivier Allard describes their sound as “violin meets instrumental prog metal!”.

Prolific artists, CYDEMIND released its first EP ‘Through Mists and Ages’ back in 2014 and soon after its single ‘What Remains’. After a few years of writing and refining their sound, the quintet (violin, bass, piano, guitar, drums) came back with their first full-length album. Entitled ‘Erosion’, its six tracks are centered around the theme of nature and its persistence through time. Epic is the word here, with one track clocking in at an impressive 27 minutes. ‘Erosion’ was released independently on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and all major online retailers.

CYDEMIND then branched off a bit from the usual metal band musical path to produce the music for the indie video game ‘Navyblue and the Spectrum Killers’. The game released in September 2018 and is available on Steam. In addition to writing the whole soundtrack for the game, CYDEMIND also released two singles ‘Navyblue’ and ‘Lights of Iberia’ as bonus content for the game.

To further expand their musical soundscape and reach new audiences, the versatile band released its first music video ‘Winter’ in March 2019. The single is an arrangement of Vivaldi’s ‘Winter violin concerto’ from the Four Seasons. Shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada, the video highlights both the majestic Canadian winter and the highly energetic performance of the band.

In addition to their recording experiences, the band has performed many times in the Montreal area since 2011 in venues like Foufounes Électriques, Katacombes, Theatre Plaza and more. They recently created the first edition of Proggy Nights in Canada, a small tour that reunited 3 Canadian prog bands in Québec City, Montreal and Toronto.

Aside from their performance expertise, Olivier (violin) and Camille (piano) have also been teaching their instrument for many years. Olivier is a doctorate student in violin performance at University of Montreal, while Camille graduated from the classical piano program at CEGEP St-Laurent in Montreal.

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have an excellent album on their hands with “Erosion.”” – Progressive Music Planet

“Everything a person could want in his or her progressive metal is contained within the album’s six tracks. Heavy, complex riffs? Check. Knotty, constantly-shifting time signatures? Check. Shreddy solos? Double check. Winding, non-linear song structures? Epic track lengths? Uplifting melodies? Check, check, and check. And then there’s that violin. It’s pretty clear from the first few notes that Olivier Allard has classical training, because he attacks his instrument like Yngwie Malmsteen with a bow.” – Indy Metal Vault

Jason Rodriguez Plunges Into Arachnophobia Distress With Music Video ‘Tarantulas’ via TheCirclePit

Debut Album ‘Heartstrings’ Out Now!

Floridian solo artist Jason Rodriguez has released the first video to compliment his debut full length album ‘Heartstrings’, which was independently released November 6th, 2018. The 10 track instrumental album is primarily heavy, modern metal with splinters of EDM along with aggressive death and thrash metal highlights.

The track, ‘Tarantulas’, is a creepy crawly, abrasive homage to the furry eight legged creatures that send shivers down the spines of some and is recommended for those who like the pulverizing sounds of Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders and Devin Townsend Project.

“I have always been a fan of instrumental heavy music and artists who write instrumental music. This type of music has always attracted a niche audience that is drawn to instrumentation, lyrical phrases, great melodies, and memorable riffs. This is what I set out to create with this album.”

Working on one song at a time, Rodriguez writes all the music for each instrument, striving to personify the title of each track. ‘Heartstrings’ is rife with bizarre heaviness, erratic lines and suspicious melodies that will thrust you out of your comfort zone.

Watch ‘Tarantulas’ video premiere via The Circle Pit at the following link: https://www.thecirclepit.com/2018/12/jason-rodriguez-tarantulas-music-video-world-premiere

‘Heartstrings’ is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon.

Tres Thomas – Photo Credit: Kirsten Robinson

Forming his one man shred-a-thon INFINITEE in 2016, Tres Thomas, guitarist of death metal band Tales Of The Tomb created the iconoclastic beast to forge his own musical path different from the extremes he usually performs. Inspired by My Chemical Romance, Dance Gavin Dance, Plini, Modern Day Babylon, The Contortionist, INFINITEE’s sound is a mix of djenty, heavy, dynamic, melodic and progressive influences as showcased on the debut album “The Possibilities Are Endless” just released as of April 20th.

Teaming up with Technical Music Review, INFINITEE is streaming the full album at the following link: https://technicalmusicreview.com/2018/04/20/infinitee-the-possibilities-are-endless-album-stream/

Thomas comments:

“It will definitely be different! However, the title track ‘The Possibilities Are Endless’ leaves all sorts of possibilities open…no pun intended! Tracks like ‘Xenocybin’, ‘Lost’ and the title track are more metal and conventional with their instrumentation. Tracks like ‘Robots Vs The Wooden Chairs Part 1 and 2 are more influenced by EDM, which has sparked the interest of people who aren’t really a fan of metal or djent, but appreciate the more electronic elements of music. This is basically a battle of robots (electronic made sounds) and the wooden chairs (guitars, bass, drums) that are wooden and made and played by humans!”

Fans that will enjoy “The Possibilities Are Endless” will also be delighted to know that the possibilities of new music from INFINITEE are also endless as Tres says he has more music to come!

“I have another album ready to record, and I am working on my third. Anything is possible…expect anything!”

INFINITEE’s debut album “The Possibilities Are Endless” is now available on Bandcamp, iTunes.

For fans of Experimental Prog Funk Djent, Animals As Leaders, Felix Martin, Plini, Between The Buried And Me

GearGods Premiere VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect) Bassist’s 9 String Frankenstein Playthrough For “The Mask”

Created By Ex-Unexpect Bassist

Out Now Debut EP “Communion”

Unleashing their debut EP “Communion” this past October, extreme bassist Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH of Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I has teamed up with GearGods.net for the premiere of his latest playthrough with his 9 string Frankenstein bass for the track “The Mask”.

“Most music featuring extended range instruments is all about technique. I wanted to bring the 9 string bass forward, but focus on songwriting more than fretboard theatrics.” says Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH.

Watch this epic video for yourself at the following link: http://geargods.net/playthrough/vvon-dogma-chaoth-ex-unexpect-plays-9-string-bass-in-this-exclusive-playthrough-for-the-mask/

Inspired by artists as diverse as Radiohead, Meshuggah, Deftones, James Blake, Jean Baudin, Die Antwoord, Clint Mansell, Igorrr, Arvo Part and Hans Zimmer,  VVON DOGMA I was created by lynchpin Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH whom was driven to form the group when his previous band Unexpect parted ways.

Experimenting with elements of prog, djent, funk, and electronic sampling plus featuring his Frankenstein 9 string bass, VVON DOGMA I‘s debut EP “Communion” is a true trip for lovers of outside the box thinking. Full of bashing low ends to its pummeling and dominating 9 string bass accompanied by the ripping of an 8 string guitar along with some morbid electronic samples for good measure.

“I wanted to feature my freak instrument of a nine-string bass. It is often a Frankenstein of bits and pieces of writing. But I also want people to know it’s not about shredding or anything. I wanted to see how I could apply this weird playing style in a musically accessible venue. My art is song writing plus arranging and the 9 string is only one aspect of it. I find it definitely adds an interesting flavor. Hopefully people will see it for what it is as a whole.”

“It sounds like Cynic mixed with The Algorithm, Last Chance To Reason, and others. It’s a shame this is only an EP, because I wand so much more.” – Metal Injection“It’s very much a ‘thinking outside of the box’ type of EP, with many different instruments and musical styles blended together.” – PureGrainAudio

“Chaoth (Frederick Filiatrault) is undoubtedly a member of the ranks of the most outstanding Canadian musicians.” – Silence-Magazin

“We may have the arrival of a whole new genre or style of music with what’s happening here from Montreal, Quebec’s Vvon Dogma I. Having just released the “Communion” EP in recent days, the music contained upon it is quite forward thinking progressive metal at its roots.” – Riff Relevant

“Chaoth is a M-A-S-T-E-R at what he does on the bass. At not a single point does he sink to the lower three strings, to prove how djent he can be, for more than ten seconds, and never does he get too noodly to enjoy what’s going on. The guy can fuckin’ PLAY a bass…What I immediately noticed with the Communion EP was that all the songs (there are four) sounded really well rounded… what it SOUNDS like is the unholy child of Les Claypool and Meshuggah. Just picture that for a second.” – Blood Rock Media

“Vvon Dogma I’s new EP has more than twice as many bass strings than tracks…an explosive look at Frederick Filliatrault’s new project, one that he conceived almost entirely as an excuse to write with his nine-string bass. Yep. Nine strings. On a bass…the Canadian band’s debut starts them off strong.” – All About The Rock

“a very unique EP.” – Games, Braaains & A Headbanging Life

“Vvon Dogma I really makes you feel that there is a well planned progression that aims to make you go through different stages until you reach a safe place” – RTMB Music

“”Communion projects a cocktail of Creative Rock and Metal of outstanding quality that will appeal to the connoisseur of all things out there in prog and avant-garde space. This is some wild shit. And does the RMR office suite like wild? Damn straight we do. And so should you – get some.” – Rock Music Raider

“This is a band that have managed to create their own brand of odd progressive metal…This is a band that does to djent what Claypool does to funk and Patton does to rock and metal. An out there and challenging affair, and most likely with more of a niche appeal due to that. But those who get it will enjoy this stuff immensely.” – Progressor

“What would happen if you lock Daft Punk, Meshuggah, Apoptygma Berzerk and Scorn into a rehearsal studio? Well, I have no idea but this fascinating EP by Vvon Dogma I might give you an idea. To say that this EP is quite varied would be a tremendous understatement. Elements from industrial (techno ànd metal), progressive rock, trap, funk, house, djent and metal pummel you down until have no idea where you are or what musical age you’re living in. Of course, there is ChaotH at his 9-string bass, but that is just one aspect of the unique and eventful sound of this band. Or in one word: Wow !” – Merchants of Air

It’s a very unique EP.” – Games, Braaains & A Head-Banging Life

When instrumental prog metal meets violin, the outcome is truly a unique sound that sets a band apart from all others in their respective genre of music. Introducing Montreal’s CYDEMIND, their instrumental prog technique blended with violin as their vocal piece makes for an auditory experience like no other.

“I grew up listening to metal while playing classical music. I’ve always dreamed of merging these two musical environments that many would find conflicting. CYDEMIND is living proof they can actually be complimented perfectly together.” says violinist Olivier Allard.
Influenced by bands such as Symphony X, Dream Theater, Haken, Plini, Rush along with classical, jazz and progressive rock, CYDEMIND are ready to present their first full length album ‘Erosion’ on May 26th, 2017 to follow their 2014 debut EP ‘Through Mist and Ages’.  The album was recorded in Montreal at The Grid with producer Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) along with additional recording of grand piano done at Studio 270.

“Even if we are a metal band, classical music is part of our identity and it was clear starting the project that we wanted to record with the most acoustic instruments possible.” explains Camille Delage, a graduate of classical piano from CEGEP St-Laurent in Montreal.

‘Erosion’ consists of six compositions including a 27 minute masterpiece of the album’s title track, making the release CYDEMIND‘s most ambitious project to date. The album artwork was done by drummer and band co-founder Alexandre Dagenais along with lyrical poems included with the release written by pianist Camille Delage. The poems describe each composition as the album gravitates around the theme of nature and its persistence through time.
