Calgary’s LOST IN STATIC are a new band to the Canadian metal scene in the vein of groups like Volumes, After the Burial, Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris, and like fellow artists, are pushing their way up the ladder to be noticed by fans of the genre. This past October, they released the debut single ‘Feel Alive’, a track that features heavy, fun, and awe-inspiring djent rhythms. Taking no pause to make more noise and stir up mosh pits once again, LOST IN STATIC are ready to warm the hearts of fans this coming holiday season with their metal rendition of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.

Guitarist Lance MacBain explains:

“I love Christmas and I love Christmas music. Ever since August Burns Red started putting out Christmas music I have been wanting to make some in my own way.  So with the band starting to take off this year, it was time to finally write one. “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” was picked because it’s one of the best known Christmas songs and I had lots of ideas for it, so that’s what we went with! We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we do!”

Riveting and aggressive, listen to LOST IN STATIC‘s holiday cover via TheCirclePit‘s YouTube HERE.

And if ya like to hear (maybe cringe), the original Mariah Carey pop version here.

In the vein of Volumes, After the Burial, Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris; Lost In Static is metalcore with heavy djent rhythms that is heavy, inspiring and most of all, fun. The band shares their hopes for the reception of the track:

KOSM is a progressive metal band hailing from Vancouver BC, Canada. Combining influences from Mastodon, Tool, and Gojira; their sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, they have been making their mark in Vancouver’s metal scene as an absolute force to be reckoned with.

Familiar to members of the progressive metal covenant, and playing with themes from the H.P. Lovecraft and Bloodborne universes; KOSM is quite unique and authentically its own being. Their first release, 2018’s “Cosmonaut” was an album loosely based on the Lovecraftian myth of Cthulhu and each song was meant to walk the listener through a story from beginning to end. Following this, the band recently plunged listeners into the dark universe of their Bloodborne video game inspired EP “Eyes On The Inside” unleashed on June 28th, 2019. The dark and agile record demonstrated KOSM‘s maturity in sound and was the first release that featured all members of the band contributing to the writing process.

Teaming up with GearGods.net, the progressive metal quintet are showcasing their latest band playthrough for their track ‘A Call Beyond’ off of “Eyes On The Inside”, which can be viewed at the following link here.

The band adds about writing the EP:

“We really set out to give people what they were asking of us, we all feel it’s going to be received incredibly well. On top of that, this is 100% for all the Bloodborne fans that trolled us into oblivion last year, so we hope that they love it just as much as the fans of progressive metal do! It’s heavier, trickier, and more concise with obvious nods to our biggest influences including Tool, Mastodon and Gojira.”

EP “Eyes On The Inside” is available on Spotify, Bandcamp, and Apple Music.

“The technical abilities of all band members blew my head off. The flow and continuity of the music is maintained from the first to the last note despite all the challenging progressiveness. It’s got more creativity crammed in 5 songs than some bands put in their entire discography. And it kills swiftly with no mercy. For all you waiting on that new Tool album, make this EP your warm up.” 9.5/10 – The Metal Observer

“If you love your prog chunkier and sludgier KOSM is right up your ally.  They are definitely one of the genre’s best kept secrets and lets not make them a secret anymore, okay?”  – Technical Music Review

“KOSM’s knack for creating concept albums has paid off yet again!” – The Music Below

“I am immediately impressed. “Yharnam” is the first track, and I am already thinking Otep, Epica and iwrestledabearonce. The lyrics are impactful, the flow of the song fits and I want to listen to the rest already. Jessie Grace, vocalist, is showing her talent from the get-go. Having such a strong female lead is really a treasure, and I can’t fault the song. It’s definitely my favourite track off of the EP. The lyrics are dynamic and descriptive, and well executed. If you haven’t played Bloodborne, then this song will make you want to…I loved this EP! Everything worked and came together. It was refreshing, powerful and I believe the band will go far.” – Midlands Metalheads

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises, and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira, and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut. The technical, progressive musicianship of Tool meets the crushing grooves and rhythmic vocals of Gojira, and Mastodon’s ear for riffy, thunderous prog are all present on Cosmonaut, which features some of the most technical metal I’ve heard this year outside of, you know, technical death metal. ” – Decibel Magazine

Vancouver’s KOSM are ready to plunge listeners into the dark universe of Bloodborne with their new EP “Eyes On The Inside” due out Friday, June 28, 2019 and before it officially drops, the band has teamed up with MetalInsider.net for the release’s full stream at the following link: https://www.metalinsider.net/new-music/exclusive-ep-stream-kosm-eyes-on-the-inside

This dark and agile record shows that KOSM has matured in sound since releasing their 2018 Lovecraftian inspired debut album “Cosmonaut” and is the first release that features all members of the band contributing to the writing process. The band tells about the motivation for writing this album:

Quoting that they spent less time on this release than the previous one, KOSM feels like this is their strongest material to date focusing on the lore of the Bloodborne game and toying with their musicianship to create a five-track record that is heavier and more sonically detailed than earlier material.

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM released their debut “Cosmonaut” during November 2018. A concept album loosely based on the weird fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, along with borrowing influences from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny, the full length serves as both musical and lyrical adventure.

The band explains:

“The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

With praise from their local Vancouver metal scene and beyond for their debut full length, the band is sharing another tribute to the author H.P. Lovecraft that has inspired them, their music, and their latest music video ‘Wza-Y’ei’.

The band adds:

“The word ‘Wza-Y’ei’ is a word in Aklo, the language of the Old Ones. We are interpreting the meaning as something akin to “Om”, or the liberation of the mind. This is a summation of the album themes. Cosmonaut begins with naivety explored in the first track “Space Mead,” but ends in epiphany with ‘Wza-Y’ei’.”

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut.

“The song (Ancient Heart) itself, which swings between some appetizingly heavy progressive riffs and aggressive growls and more melodic moments (with clean singing behind them). A tough band to place in that regard, but one certainly worth seeking out as they continue to expand their sound.” – DeadRhetoric
“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove.  They have all sorts of dual guitar sections, and very psychedelic and moody parts on “Cosmonaut” as well.  They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second. ” – Technical Music Review

“KOSM definitely show enough potential with this release to be a band that should be on your scopes.” – Noizze UK

” Kosm’s Cosmonaut isn’t bland: it’s the pleasing sound of a band following their own inner vision.” 9/10 – Hellbound

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM is sharing their latest guitar playthrough for their track “The Esoteric Order”. The playthrough showcases the dual shredding of KOSM‘s guitarist Erik Leonoard and Mike Slater who play Kiesel and PRS guitars respectively, along with using a blend of Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifiers and Scuffham Digital Amps. The ambient sounds heard at the end of the track are created with a combination of the El Capistan dTape Delay pedal by Strymon and the Afterneath Reverb pedal by Earthquaker Devices.

Watch the shredding via GearGods.net at http://geargods.net/playthrough/kosm-esoteric-order-playthrough/

The track is third single off of KOSM‘s debut full length “Cosmonaut” released this past November and is influenced from the cosmic-horror of H.P. Lovecraft and classic science-fiction of others; the album and song tell the story of a cosmonaut’s transformative journey through time and space.

The band adds:

“Cosmonaut is a concept album loosely based on the weird-fiction of HP Lovecraft, and borrowing concepts from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny. The album follows a cosmonaut on a cosmic journey through time and space; from the earthly confines of mortal life, to ascendancy as an immaterial and omnipotent being. The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

“Cosmonaut” is available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – December 12, 2018

For fans of Meshuggah, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Intervals, Plini, Tesseract

Jason Rodriguez Plunges Into Arachnophobia Distress With Music Video ‘Tarantulas’ via TheCirclePit

Debut Album ‘Heartstrings’ Out Now!

Floridian solo artist Jason Rodriguez has released the first video to compliment his debut full length album ‘Heartstrings’, which was independently released November 6th, 2018. The 10 track instrumental album is primarily heavy, modern metal with splinters of EDM along with aggressive death and thrash metal highlights.

The track, ‘Tarantulas’, is a creepy crawly, abrasive homage to the furry eight legged creatures that send shivers down the spines of some and is recommended for those who like the pulverizing sounds of Meshuggah, Animals as Leaders and Devin Townsend Project.

“I have always been a fan of instrumental heavy music and artists who write instrumental music. This type of music has always attracted a niche audience that is drawn to instrumentation, lyrical phrases, great melodies, and memorable riffs. This is what I set out to create with this album.”

Working on one song at a time, Rodriguez writes all the music for each instrument, striving to personify the title of each track. ‘Heartstrings’ is rife with bizarre heaviness, erratic lines and suspicious melodies that will thrust you out of your comfort zone.

Watch ‘Tarantulas’ video premiere via The Circle Pit at the following link: https://www.thecirclepit.com/2018/12/jason-rodriguez-tarantulas-music-video-world-premiere

‘Heartstrings’ is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon.

Track Listing:
1. Heartstrings (2:53)
2. Tarantulas (4:15)
3. Apostasy (4:06)
4. Ad Hockery (2:54)
5. The Elephant In The Room (4:37)
6. Insider Threat (4:03)
7. Reciprocate (4:24)
8. Squaring The Circle (3:15)

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM‘s sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, part of making a name for themselves on their local scene in Vancouver and beyond, has been putting together cover videos of some of their favourite bands such as Mastodon, Queens of The Stone Age, System of A Down, Halestorm, Plini and many more. Now the quintet is paying their respects to one of their influences Gojira by covering their track “Ocean Planet”.

“We chose Gojira because they’ve been one of our prominent inspirations for the band! Our bassist actually kept heckling us to cover ‘Ocean Planet’ and eventually we caved and took the song on. It was intimidating to undertake a band as powerful as Gojira, but we hoped to have done it justice!” says guitarist Erik Leonhard.

Watch KOSM cover Gojira‘s “Ocean Planet” at the following link:

KOSM recently unleashed their debut “Cosmonaut”, an album loosely based on themes from stories by H.P. Lovecraft and others.
