Rome’s Shores of Null have a second teaser to whet palates in anticipation of their upcoming doom masterpiece “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)”. Close to forty minutes, the one track album is an epic journey through the process of grieving.

From a lyrical viewpoint “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” is inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and explored in her book “On Death And Dying”, hence the title.

“Beyond the Shores (Excerpt II)” is five minutes of pained, haunted vocals that convey feelings of despair set against a brooding doom background while the listeners are enveloped in cold feelings of loss. Existing fans of the band will notice a divergence in sound from they are used to from the band’s previous two releases. The overall sound gets even more diverse and peculiar thanks to the addition of classical instruments like piano and violins to the opus.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place.

Recommended for any and all doom fans, especially fans of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Amorphis, “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt II)” can be heard via its North American premiere on MetalInsider.net HERE.

“Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” will be released in its entirety on November 27th, 2020.

About:

Shores Of Null is a Rome-based metal band, an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013. They have churned out two impressive records: the melodic and somber  “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014) and the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), both of which were highly praised by the worldwide music press.

Shores of Null stands out from its contemporaries with its ability to blend seemingly disparate elements and their ability to sound overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time. Blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic yet majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

Shores Of Null has performed over 150 shows, including six European tours (with In The Woods, Ereb Altor, Hooded Menace, Mourning Beloveth, Novembre, Harakiri For The Sky, Sylvaine, and more), dozens of shows and tours in their home country (with Primordial, Arcturus, Candlemass, Moonsorrow, Leprous, Saturnus, Negura Bunget, etc.) and many European Festivals (Inferno Festival, Eindhoven Metal Meeting, Winter Days Of Metal, Doom Over London, Metalitalia Fest, Frantic Fest, and more).

Shores Of Null’s third work, “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying),” is expected to be released in November 2020 via Spikerot Records, continuing to prove the band’s willingness to go off the beaten path and create their ultimate doom manifesto, a 38 minute-long suite emphasizing their heavier, slower and dramatic side, inspired by the five stages of grief formulated by the Swiss-American psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross. The band has collaborated on the dark opus with many special guests, including two doom-titans, Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. Jensen (Saturnus), along with the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno). The band is able to present an even more diverse and eclectic sound on the album thanks to the addition of classical instruments like piano and violin, along with the return of the talented Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Fleshgod Apocalypse) behind the production desk.

Rome’s Shores of Null are releasing an ambitious and massive single track album “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” via Spikerot Records on November 27th, 2020.

The album, one complete work, can be divided into five separate movements, each one exploring one of the recognized stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. This album is a partial deviation from the sound Shores of Null has been refining over the years as they enhance their heavier, slower, and dramatic elements to create their ultimate doom manifesto. In this dark venture, the band has involved a bunch of special guests, including two doom-titans such as Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A. G. Jensen (Saturnus) plus the angelic voice of Elisabetta Marchetti (Inno).

The doom metal act has already released the first excerpt for listeners to immerse themselves with a three and half minute clip that shows various elements that this doom metal band has woven together to create a thick aura of forlorn melancholy.

Shores Of Null is a Rome-based metal band, an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their outset in 2013, able to churn out two impressive records: the highly acclaimed debut “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014) and the sophomore, more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), both heavily praised by the worldwide press.

For fans of anything dark and dreary, especially those with an existing interest in Swallow The Sun, My Dying Bride, and Paradise Lost; “Beyond the Shores (Excerpt I)” was released on October 2, 2020 and can be heard on the following links:

The full release of “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)” will be available on November 27th, 2020.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 6, 2019

For fans of Kamelot, Kataonia, Type O Negative, Dimmu Borgir, Paradise Lost

Canadian Horror Metal MALACODA Posts New Video ‘Wrapped In Laments’

New Album “Restless Dreams” Out Now! via Rockshots Records

L-R: Tiny Basstank – Bass, Lucas Di Mascio – Vocals, Vlad Prokhorov – Drums, Mick D Kiss – Guitar

Releasing their album ‘Restless Dreams’ during October of last year via Rockshots Records, Canada’s horror influenced symphonic power metallers MALACODA are sharing with fans their new lyric video for their track ‘Wrapped In Laments’.

Vocalist Lucas Di Mascio explains the track:

“Full of melancholic lead melodies over a frantic, almost djent sounding guitar riff, topped off with a dissonant drawn-out scream, the song sounds eerie, angry and sad all at once. It was inspired by the “Lying Figure” monsters from the Silent Hill 2 video game. They are female creatures that are trapped in a straight jacket of their own skin. They have holes in their chest where their hearts should be and they spew acid if the main character gets too close. They are beautifully haunting and evoke pity and disgust. They represent how the main character’s wife felt while dying of melanoma, she felt she was a monster- too hideous to love and trapped in her own skin. I always took the acid-spewing from the chest as symbolic to how she was very verbally abusive to the main character in her final days and said things that while hurtful, came from the heart. The chorus brings up the words “lie about” as a common phrase, and it’s both referencing how the main character would lie to her about his infidelity, but also how she felt all she could do was physically lie in a bed and waste away.”

Watch ‘Wrapping In Laments’ here.

Inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”, “Restless Dreams” is a musical journey through dark tormented themes of doubt, loss, guilt, and terror. The plot of the album follows a broken man’s journey through the ghost town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet her there. MALACODA brings a fresh interpretation of these themes and artfully bring to life the oppressive, claustrophobic aura of the fog consumed town with deviously clever song-writing and mind-catching lyrics. “Restless Dreams” is a musical release unlike any other. Fans and new listeners alike, prepare for an atmospheric and melodic metal descent into a world of horror and despair. ‘Restless Dreams’ was masterfully mixed by Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith).

Just when spring begins to peak in the Great White North, Majestic Downfall (Mexico) and Helevorn (Spain) will arrive from warmer lands to plunge the country back into the cold and dreary atmosphere that Canadians are accustomed to with their individual styles of melodic and melancholic doom metal. Both bands have released impressive albums recently that have caught the attention of media around the world. Now, Canadian metalheads will have the chance to experience the live acts from these well-regarded bands.

Helevorn released “Aamamata” in January 2019 and following in the veins of Draconican and Swallow the Sun. Heavy and dreary, it has enough variation and self-expression to keep from being dull.

“Aamamata is an experience that oozes with desolation and gloom, yet still provides that slightly uplifting feeling at the end of the day. Bone-crushing riffs that reverberate with emotion join up with some more introspective moments (see “Goodbye, Hope”) to bring in the contrast that bands like Daylight Dies and Novembers Doom have done so well, yet the structuring of both gives Helevorn a little wiggle room to reach for their own sweet spot.” – Dead Rhetoric

Majestic Downfall unleashed “Waters of Fate” in December of 2018 and the six-track album is recommended for fans of My Dying Bride and old Katatonia. As their fifth studio release, they bring finesse and emotion back into the genre.

“The sound of these Mexicans improved in industrial proportions and this innovative and varied approach to their music, presents the extreme and melancholic detail that Doom/Death Metal left forgot long ago.” – breathlesssleep.com

Doom and death metal fans are invited to witness these acts across the desolate North.

Majestic Downfall started as a one-man doom journey in August of 2006. The idea was to recapture the feeling of the 90s European death/doom metal scene, while mixing it with some more modern metal overtones. In 2007, MAjestic Downfall pressed its first demo titled – “The First Abyss Demo 2007” which was later released in a split with Italian black/doom metal band Ansia.

On April 6th, 2009, Majestic Downfall released its debut full-length album, “Temple of Guilt”. This time the music contained a darker edge full of sorrow and new influences from bands like Shining and Forgotten Tomb. 2011 saw the release of “The Blood Dance” album which contained 7 sorrowful passages with an even darker edge than Temple of Guilt. The “Three” album was released in 2013 and this time the sound contained even more experimentation in the music but without staying too far away from the band’s musical roots. 2015 sees the release of “…When Dead”, an album that is not only the bands most diverse output incorporating lots of influences outside doom metal, but one that also and for the first time has an important backing label.

In 2018, “Waters of Fate”, was released in 3 different continents by 3 different labels. It is mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna (Watain, Portrait, Mayhem) at Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm, Sweden and definitely more and more opportunities in all areas coming along the way for the band.

Melancholic doom outfit Helevorn started in 1999 in Palma, Spain, and has been exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world ever since.

They began their journey with a demo in 2000, “Prelude” that featured female vocals and followed the gothic doom formula. They were quickly accoladed by the press and they dove into writing, gigging and recording. In 2005 the first full length “Fragments” was released.

In 2006 they were asked to contribute to the Katatonia tribute “December Songs” and released the second studio album in 2009 “Forthcoming Displeasures”. This release saw their musical style evolve into a more intense and heavy sound, more forceful and deep. “Compassion Forlorn” was released in 2014, and was accompanied by a music video for “Burden Me”.

With more and more fans craving the somber tones and dreary vocals, Helevorn brought their dramatic intensity to many European festivals including Dutch Doom Days, Gothoom Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, and Madrid is the Dark Fest.

The fourth studio album “Aamamata” was released on January 23, 2019.

Spanish Doom Metallers HELEVORN Posts New Lyric Video “Aurora“

Shadows of The North Canada Tour 2019 w/ Majestic Downfall

L-R – Enrique Sierra (Keys), Josep Brunet (Vocals), Will Adrift (Bass), Sandro Vizcaino (Guitars), Samuel Morales (Guitars), Xavi Gil (Drums)

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “Aurora“. The video is in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” released this past January via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.

Check it out at https://youtu.be/L1Zqs_wM99E

Vocalist Josep Brunet explains the track:

“This song is about an extraordinary woman who fought for the civil rights of the working class and was murdered during the fascist military coup in 1936-37 in Spain. She was only 25 years old and her body has still not been found.”

“Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

The band adds:

“We think that fans will love the new album. We know that we are not discovering something new, we are creating 90’s goth-doom metal in present times. It should be received like a piece to reborn the scene and for the music to relate on the decadence of humankind through the drama of the refugees that are dying and trying to escape from the hell that the Western countries have put them in.”

With more and more fans craving the somber tones and dreary vocals, HELEVORN has brought their dramatic intensity to many European festivals including Dutch Doom Days, Gothoom Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, and Madrid is the Dark Fest. They are also bringing their gloom to Canadian cities this coming May for their first cross country tour with Solitude Productions label mates Mexico’s Majestic Downfall (dates listed below).

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)”, which is sung in eight different languages. The video is in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” due out this Wednesday, January 23rd via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.

Check it out at https://youtu.be/5Yw7akleTPQ

Vocalist Josep Brunet explains the track:

“This is a song about what our Mediterranean Sea was and what is nowadays… I mean, during the past times it was a sea to share, to grow, of course, there was a lot of wars, but it was our true nation, of all of us, so in this song appears eight different languages of our big cultural area (Greek, Maltese, Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, Italian, French, and Hebrew), and we had our friends and fans of the band do the vocals on it.

The lyrics for it are from a poem by Catalan writer, Miquel Martí I Pol, translated into these eight languages. The melodic vocals done by Julia Colom too are really awesome; we had goosebumps on our skin when she was recording her vocal parts. Very epic, gothic and very deep.”

“Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “A Sail To Sanity“ in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” due out on January 23rd via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.  “Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

The band comments:

Recently releasing their latest album “Restless Dreams” this past October on Rockshots Records, Hamilton, ON based horror influenced symphonic power metallers MALACODA are premiering their new music video “I Got A Letter” via PureGrainAudio.com. The track is a re-imagining from the original recording on the band’s 2016 EP ‘Ritualis Aeterna’. It is stripped back from the embellishments and presented as it was originally intended; a dynamic and moody listening experience with melodic flourishes.

Watch it now at the following link on PureGrainAudio: https://puregrainaudio.com/videos/malacoda-can-t-shake-their-restless-dreams-with-the-new-i-got-a-letter-music-video-exclusive-premiere

Inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”, “Restless Dreams” is a musical journey through dark tormented themes of doubt, loss, guilt and terror. “Restless Dreams” was masterfully mixed by Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith).

Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers MALACODA (named after a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’) return with their new six track EP ‘Ritualis Aeterna’ out now as of December 2nd. The EP is the follow up to their well-received 2014 self-titled debut album. Packed with dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century with intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

Vocalist Lucas Di Mascio comments on the EP:

“After a long journey filled with equal measures of happiness and misery, large helpings of hope and despair, and a pinch of euphoria and rage…. we can finally say “It’s here!” Enjoy the tracks, and we’ll see you on the road soon…. These six tracks are full of character and are definitely a sign of things to come.”

‘Ritualis Aterna’ is now available digitally on iTunes and on CD at MalacodaMetal.com plus can be heard in full stream at http://www.malacodametal.com/music.

Plus the band’s new music video inspired by the since canceled Showtime TV show by the same name ‘Penny Dreadful’ can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTJfr292o7g.

The video was directed, produced and edited by The Laundry Design Works. The song explores the themes of the show, each section of the song being a different character’s personal struggles. Just as the show paid homage to horror’s roots, the band’s music video pays respects to classic horror films, using only practical effects to achieve everything from the dark corruption of the blood in the veins of the possessed woman, to the sped up and jerky motions the band members display as the song crescendos.

1. Penny Dreadful (5:34)
2. I Got A Letter (4:37)
3. Pandemonium (3:39)
4. The Wild Hunt (4:20)
5. Linger Here (2:23)
6. There Will Always Be One (3:47)
EP Length: 24:24

About:

Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s dark gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

As band leader Lucas, who studied Literature and Religion at University explains: ‘Malacoda was the name of a very minor character in the book, a fallen angel who flies around with a small army of demons torturing helpless souls in Hell. From a literary perspective, I found it interesting that he wasn’t merely an evil creature being tortured for his sins, but was given free reign to do what he pleases and takes it upon himself to torture other wicked souls in the spiritual prison that is Dante’s Inferno. I wanted a powerful name that fit not only the sound of the band but also the lyrical themes I touch upon. I wanted something dark, but not something that would be blatantly devilish sounding. The name translates roughly in Italian to ‘Cruel Tail’ and most people don’t see it and think “this band is named after a demon” and see it as something more romantic sounding.’

Like the ‘Inferno’ that inspired their name they forge metal without limits in sonic shapes endless and horrifying in equal measure. Malacoda’s music vision shares much in common with Dante’s, they are unafraid to gaze into the abyss, unafraid to be inspired by the myriad of human horrors within and without. They are not blind to the worlds within them waiting to be born.

Malacoda are about to follow their well-received self-titled debut with the horror-themed ‘Ritualis Aeterna’, which enters this world on December 2, 2016. Festive it most certainly isn’t, magnificent it certainly is. Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

Set to release their new EP ‘Ritualis Aeterna’ on December 2nd, Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers MALACODA have unleashed their new music video for their first single ‘Penny Dreadful’ that was directed, produced and edited by The Laundry Design Works. The track/music video Penny Dreadful was inspired by the since canceled Showtime TV show by the same name. Gothic horror literary classics (Dracula, Dorian Grey,  Frankenstein, etc.) all cross paths within the same gloomy Victorian London and struggle with their cursed existence.

The band comments about the video:

“The Penny Dreadful video is something the band has wanted to do for a long time. Being involved with everything from the script, storyboard and even the production of the story scenes was great and let us guide where we wanted the video to go. Our upcoming ep release is a healthy dosage of things to come, we are just merely dipping our toes into a murky pool filled with horror and grandiosity and we hope our listeners take the plunge with us as we dive deeper into these darker areas.”
