Tylor Dory Trio from Edmonton, Canada are putting out a new record and it’s exactly the warm proggy hug you need this winter. “Unsought Salvation” is full to the brim with warm riffs and spicy drumming, topped with delectable vocals that will comfort you as the nights grow longer.

TDT explains the connection between the new album and their 2015 debut EP “Carried Away”:

“The album should serve as a valid continuation from ‘Carried Away’ alongside spiritual ties to the first EP. ‘Carried Away’ was tonally quite dark, we feel that ‘Unsought Salvation’ is a more balanced presentation featuring some upbeat tracks alongside darker and heavier tracks that you may have come to expect from listening to ‘Carried Away’.”

For their second single, the band have teamed up with GhostCultMag to premiere the proggy acoustic guitar-driven track ‘Dying Light’. Tylor Dory explains:

“One of the album’s primarily acoustic tracks, our first EP and the Carried Away EP both featured an acoustic song and it was very important to us to carry that forward with ‘Unsought Salvation’. The song is played in an unconventional tuning (DABGAD) that I came up with while trying to gain access to certain chord voicing that wouldn’t have been available otherwise. Like many of our songs ‘Dying Light’ is a journey through many feels and tonalities, starting quite soft and gradually building up to an erupting guitar solo.”

Listen to ‘Dying Light’ here.

Due out December 21, 2019, “Unsought Salvation” has something for everyone and will especially be enjoyed by fans of Devin Townsend, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.

About:

Tylor Dory Trio was conceived in late 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Tylor Dory and drummer Jonathan Webster. Wanting to step aside from playing in extreme metal bands, Dory and Webster decided to form the duo to explore the music close to their hearts – proggy weird stuff. The trio was completed in late 2013 after the addition of their bassist Slava Fedossenko.

Bringing together influences like Opeth, Alice In Chains, and Rush; TDT is characterized by proficient musicianship, tight songwriting, and powerful hooks. It’s progressive metal that isn’t pretentious. TDT loves pushing the boundaries of what a power trio can accomplish, but above all else, it’s about the songs.

Musically, they take their fans on a journey through light and dark tonalities, crushing heaviness to ethereal cleanliness, through peaks and valleys that end up coming full circle.

Their latest full length “Unsought Salvation” was recorded with the prolific Christer-Andre Cederberg at his studio in Kristiansand, Norway in February 2017, to be released December 20, 2019, to follow their 2015 EP “Carried Away”

For the first single off the album, ‘East of Eden’, the trio have put together a video featuring their adventures in Norway where the full length’s bass, drums, and guitars were recorded with Christer Cederberg at Cederberg Studios in Kristiansand in 2017. Vocals and synth were recorded in their hometown of Edmonton at The Laboradory.

When asked about the themes present in ‘East of Eden’, TDT explains:

“It’s’ our leading single and one of the most accessible and hooky songs on the album. I love how the chorus evolves in this song, getting bigger and bolder each time. A song about betrayal, we feel that East of Eden matches the fire of the lyrics while staying refined musically. Also, the only song, other than the acoustic tracks, recorded on six-string guitars as opposed to eights.”

Set to unleash their debut album “The Door” on October 4th, Montreal’s MESSORA are excited to share the release’s full stream via its exclusive premiere on Ghost Cult Mag HERE.

“The Door” is constantly shifting between genres, and creates a visceral atmosphere that can’t be confined to a single category, be prepared to hear death, melodic, doom and progressive elements throughout the seven tracks on the album. Looking to challenge listeners, MESSORA presents an album that requires attention and an open mind, as Zach Dean quotes:

“I am trying to present fans with a record that you listen to front to back and come out of feeling different. Maybe not even different, maybe just more like yourself. Most of the songs are very long and have very complicated structures and changes, but it’s always meant to feel right and musical rather than abrupt and meaningless.”

Formed as a solo recording project in 2016 in Montréal, Québec, Messora has become a band that obscures and challenges genres. To the band, the music comes as what feels best in the moment. To the fans, it is a kaleidoscope of sound that appears different at every glance and to every eye.

Messora has been described as Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal, and Doom Metal by fans and showgoers. The elements that make up the music may seem familiar to some, yet the whole remains a challenge to define.

The band knows how to set themselves apart from others musically as well as aesthetically, with showmanship and presentation second only to musical performance during their live show. They demand attention with their presentation but keep it with the strength of their performance and musicianship. Having shared the stage with bands such as Carach Angren, Mors Principium Est, and Wolfheart, Messora always delivers, visually, aesthetically and musically.

“Messora constantly find new directions, evolving their music from one side to the other and back. The fact they can do it flawlessly is a joy [8/10] ” – Metal Noise

“The music is technical, brutal, thoughtful, and emotional; taking the listener on a singular journey to the recesses of your mind… This is music for your ears and soul, so purchase and stream the album at the links below.” – Ghost Cult Mag

“The Door is one record you certainly check out if you want nothing but solid tracks all the way through. This record will certainly put Messora on the metal map.” – Metal Utopia

“Promising career start for the Canadian quartet” – Broken Tomb Magazine

“truly exceptionally talented musicianship that is simply a heavy work of art.” – Boston Rock Radio

“Combining a variety of genres, the group made good impressions on those who shows up early with their tight musicianship and ability to change pace on a moment’s notice” – Apt 613

“… Messora was a whirlwind on stage. It was hard to believe that a half hour had passed when they began to play their final song, as each song had layered onto each other leaving viewers with a feeling that the experience was almost surreal.”- Splice Media Group

In anticipation of their upcoming album “The Door”, Montreal’s MESSORA have released their second single ‘The Pond’.

The album as a whole is very varied musically while remaining focused and tight. It’s very clearly a metal album but you can hear that we want to go to different places and incorporate different influences throughout the record. Most of the songs are very long and have very complicated structures and changes, but it’s always meant to feel right and musical rather than abrupt and meaningless.”

Among the proggy, more experimental tracks on the album, ‘The Pond’ is an introspective and tense journey that is slower than the other offerings on the record. Dean explains:

“I wanted this song to be more slow, atmospheric and short that the other songs on the record, and I stuck to this idea while I was writing it. This track is very interesting to me because I didn’t think that something like this would end up on the record. It started as a 12-minute monstrosity in the same vein as The Veil and The Falling Star, but I ended up scrapping most of it and just kept about a fifth of the ideas and turned them into this more atmospheric and slow cut. The lyrics take place in the new “world” that you finally fall into after entering The Door.”

Any metal lover who craves proggy and dark music especially along the lines of Opeth, Psycroptic, and Gojira will find MESSORA to their liking.

‘The Pond’ is streaming via an exclusive premiere on MetalUniverse.net HERE.

MESSORA Reveal What’s Behind ‘The Door’ With Title Track Premiere Off Upcoming Debut Album

One of Montreal’s hardest to classify metal bands, MESSORA, has wrapped up production on their debut album and is ready for their listeners to succumb to the shifting and numinous music within. “The Door” is being released on October 4, 2019.

“The Door” is comprised of seven challenging tracks that shift between many styles of metal, most noticeably death and progressive with hints of doom among the melodic riffs. The title track is the first single and is the reason this originally intended one-man project blossomed into a full band that has been bringing it’s malevolent and theatrical performance to stages throughout the local scene. Having played live many times, MESSORA expects this release to be taken well by fans, as they quote:

“We think that many people who became fans after seeing us live will be thrilled just by the fact that we’re finally presenting them with a record. I think that anyone who considers themselves a fan of ours only does so because of our live show. It’s a record that is kind of progressive but also kind of straight forward and we hope that it will appeal to those who are into progressive music and those who aren’t at all.”

The lyrics on the track ‘The Door’ influenced every subsequent song on the album turning it into a continuation of the first track. Zach Dean explains the track in his own words:

“It’s very catchy and melodic, and it never gets as weird as certain other songs on the record. I really see it as this album’s only “single”. The middle section that contains the guitar solo is actually kind of weird. It serves as a great segue between what’s basically the part 1 and part 2 of the song, as well as giving the listener a taste of the more proggy and eccentric sounds that are more present later on in the record. Lyrically it’s about always seeing the problems in the world, and feeling like it’s all the fault of everything and everyone around you. You then get a glimpse at something else, a different place that is different from the one you’re in, and you want to get there.”

MESSORA crosses boundaries and is ultimately for anyone who likes technical, well-crafted metal, especially those who enjoy Opeth, Children of Bodom, and Lamb of God.

The single ‘The Door’ is being premiered via Bravewords.com at the following link here.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 13, 2019

For fans of Soilwork, Lamb of God, At The Gates, Opeth

EXES FOR EYES Announces #TheAluminumProject; Selling New Album For Only $1 “Of Strength and Sorrow”

Canada’s EXES FOR EYES, the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex. Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Stab.Twist.Pull, Endast, Authors) have left their hiatus to bring you a new album “Of Strength and Sorrow” to follow their 2014 album “Tongues Like Figure Eights”.

Back in 2014, the band challenged their fans and the metal community with #ThePlatinumProject to help a fully independent band reach platinum status by selling one million digital copies at only $1. Did the band reach their goal…? Not quite, but they did sell over 16,000 digital copies and encourage an online trend that followed. The promotion was a great experience and brought EXES FOR EYES tons of exposure and attention from the music industry. Fast-forwarding to 2019, with their next album “Of Strength and Sorrow” out as of Tuesday, August 13th, the band is entering the moshpit with a new challenge dubbed #TheAluminumProject. It’s the same concept, selling their new album exclusively for only $1 except with some more twists, which the band goes into further detail in the following video they have put together explaining the concept.

Watch the explanation of #TheAluminumProject here.

“Of Strength and Sorrow” is available for only $1 EXCLUSIVELY at www.ExesForEyes.com.

EXES FOR EYES latest album “Of Strength and Sorrow” has been four years in the making since their previous album. Having shown that they have matured sonically, the new album is darker without abandoning the soundscapes their fans have grown to love with their massive groove. Taking inspiration from composers such as John Williams, Danny Elfman, John Carpenter and Hans Zimmer there are new instrumental layers that add a definitive depth to the album. EXES FOR EYES comments on the writing process behind the massive 65-minute album:

“The writing process took so much out of us this album, so the idea of not releasing a song because ‘it doesn’t sound like the other ones’ didn’t even cross our minds. I feel like we knew we were going to release it ourselves on our terms again, so the idea of a 65-minute album didn’t seem outrageous.  You’ll have your favourites the same way we have ours, but these are the songs and we want you to hear all of them. We meant every note and every word.”

Track Listing:
1. Build, Work, Dream, Create (2:32)
2. Memories That Last (3:21)
3. The Metal (3:57)
4. Nothing Ever Satisfies (5:09)
5. The Fire Inside My Head (feat. Trey Xavier of In Virtue) (6:40)
6. Set It All On Fire (6:19)
7. The Savage Self (4:48)
8. I Miss My Friends (Too Many Of Them Are Dead) (6:26)
9. Hold On i. You Are Not Alone ii. Stronger Than This (8:33)
10. True Self Reckoning (3:11)
11. Love (feat. Pepe Poliquin of BornBroken) (3:56)
12. Get The Fuck Out Of My Head (3:24)

BIO:

EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. Respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.

The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.

With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex-Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 16, 2019

For fans of Soilwork, Lamb of God, At The Gates, Opeth

EXES FOR EYES Return With New Single ‘Hold On’ + Album “Of Strength and Sorrow” Out Aug 13th

Having maintained a general theme of blindness, both figuratively and literally, the new album departs from those themes.

‘Hold On’ is the first single off this album and is an excellent introduction to the release that can simply be defined as “heavy as fuck”.

Having taken the last four years since their previous album, EXES FOR EYES have shown that they have matured sonically, completing an album that is darker without abandoning the soundscapes their fans have grown to love with their massive groove. Taking inspiration from composers such as John Williams, Danny Elfman, John Carpenter and Hans Zimmer they are new instrumental layers that add a definitive depth to the album. EXES FOR EYES comments on the writing process behind the massive 65-minute album:

“The writing process took so much out of us this album, so the idea of not releasing a song because ‘it doesn’t sound like the other ones’ didn’t even cross our minds. We meant every note and every word.”

Metal fans, especially those who follow Slipknot, Soilwork and Periphery can experience utter brutality and sheer beauty in lyrics that stem from a personal place coupled with heavy riffs and ferocious drumming found in the single ‘Hold On’, which is available for stream at the following link here.

The album download for “Of Strength and Sorrow” will be available for only $1 EXCLUSIVELY as of August 13, 2019, at www.ExesForEyes.com.

It’s been a long time coming, with a band name like SLUDGEHAMMER, it was inevitable that the Toronto based quintet would be doing a cover version of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’. The two are a perfect pair up, which is demonstrated in the band’s new music video covering the track.

The band comments:

“After many drunken fan requests, many misspelled marquee billings and many hours spent researching the legalities. We at Sludgehammer are moderately delighted to release our Sledgehammer cover. Peter Gabriel is our band inspiration, he has influenced every riff, blast beat and vocal harmony that we’ve created. We hope this does him some justice we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.”

Teaming up with Decibel Magazine for the video’s premiere, SLUDGEHAMMER doing ‘Sledgehammer’ can be viewed at the following link: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2019/07/04/video-premiere-sludgehammer-covers-peter-gabriel-you-know-which-song/

Though the track is not on the band’s latest album “Antechamber” released this past April, new fans can have their eardrums pummeled and destroyed by the heavy groove presented by the band. Those with an ear for Decapitated, Pantera, Lamb Of God, and Cannibal Corpse can dig into this slice of groovy progressive melodic death brutality.

Since the release, their first full-length album, The Fallen Sun, Sludgehammer from Toronto, Canada have been riding a wave of great reviews for the record as well as their live show.

Originally formed in 2013 by Jeff Wilson (guitar) and Fernando Villalobos (drums), Sludgehammer’s initial lineup came together with the addition of Daniel Ayers (vocals/bass) and Christopher Szarota (vocals).  By the end of the year, they released a demo which gained considerable ground. 2014’s EP Organ Harvester introduced Dan Ayers as a co-vocalist, creating a unique sound that molded Sludgehammer into the heavy and groovy band it is today.

In 2016, the LP The Fallen Sun was released; fast and chunky it was well received by fans and the media. Unfortunately, after the release of that album, the band parted ways with Szarota and Josh Stephney was brought on board to complete the album cycle.

With the lineup finalized, Sludgehammer hit the road and laid waste to every stage they set foot on, showing their fans that they were now stronger than ever.  After a few successful tours in support of The Fallen Sun, it was time to start writing the next record which will be the first to feature Stephney on vocals. Sludgehammer is preparing to show their maturity by unleashing a second monstrous album “Antechamber” in 2019.

“This is how gifted SLUDGEHAMMER as a band is, even with only a demo, EP and now LP under their belts. On their own, they’re a devastating DIY metal band. With a contract in-hand, they’re gonna become unstoppable.” – Blabbermouth

““Demons From the Woodwork”. It’s a jolting, high-octane, full-throttled romp that incorporates elements of thrash, death metal, and head-slugging groove — and it’s an infectious beast that Sludgehammer have unchained.” – No Clean Singing

“Sludgehammer have a great way of infusing groove into their sound. Not nearly enough of that in death metal these days” – CJSF – Metal Meltdown

Lyric Video – “Profound Darkness” – https://youtu.be/Dvb03K0WPvM

Drawing influence from metal’s crème de le extreme, from Enslaved and Devin Townsend to Ihsahn and Opeth, ASHEN HORDE (aka Trevor Portz and Stevie Boiser (Vale of Pnath, Inferi)), may have a sound rooted in death and black metal, but can’t truly be called either. The concept album is in the vein of J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel “High Rise,” and explores class warfare and a society’s descent into primitive, warring tribes. Musically, the album expands further on the complexities of the band’s earlier releases, but with even more emphasis on progressive and melodic elements, even incorporating clean vocals for the first time. It will appeal to fans of the more progressive side of extreme metal, from Ihsahn and Borknagar to Opeth and Enslaved.

The band adds:

“Fallen Cathedrals, is the perfect illustration of what Ashen Horde is all about. Musically, it draws influence from across the metal spectrum. There is hyper speed, blast-beat-fueled black metal that runs alongside pummeling death metal riffs; clean-sung melodic passages juxtaposed against face-melting screams, and headbanging beats intermixed with progressive odd-time signatures.”

About:
Launched as a one-man project in 2013 by writer and multi-instrumentalist Trevor Portz, Ashen Horde has released two critically acclaimed albums, as well as several EPs, over the past three years. Beginning with the ambitious Sanguinum Vindicta trilogy, Portz has worked tirelessly to develop a sound that is both challenging and unique.

While the earlier work was more firmly rooted in black metal, subsequent releases have begun to shape the Ashen Horde sound into something more genre-neutral. As noted by Dead Rhetoric, “Ashen Horde takes the best of what’s around and melds it into something more interesting than the [individual] parts.”

2015 saw the release of the sophomore album, Nine Plagues. Again written, performed and recorded entirely by Portz, the album was described by Transcending Obscurity as “the ultimate modern death metal experience.” Lavished with positive reviews, the album greatly helped to boost Ashen Horde’s presence in the extreme metal community. In fact, demand for Nine Plagues on vinyl led to a successful Kickstarter campaign, the result being a double-LP version of the album.

2016 brought a major change to the band, as Portz made the decision to bring in a lead vocalist, ending Ashen Horde’s run as a solo project. Portz drafted Stevie Boiser, known for his work with several tech death heavies, including Vale of Pnath, Inferi, and Equipoise. Notes Portz, “I always felt like the vocals I was doing was fine, but they never turned out quite as dynamic as I heard them in my head. Stevie’s skill will, no doubt, push Ashen Horde to a whole new level.” The first release with Boiser on vocals was “The Alchemist” 7”, which saw the band exploring black and roll, giving a nod to bands like Khold and Satyricon.

Which brings us to 2018 and Fallen Cathedrals. The album represents a more diverse Ashen Horde sound but doesn’t compromise on the intensity and aggression for which the band has become known.

Absolute Zero Magazine commented, “If we the underground can get this into the right hands Ashen Horde will be a major force in the extreme metal world for years to come.” Portz and Boiser are ready to see that prediction play out.
