Recently unleashing their new EP ‘Pandora’ to follow their 2012 debut album ‘The Awakening’, Vancouver, BC’s European influenced symphonic metal band CELESTIAL RUIN are proud to announce they will be local support for American heavy weights DOPE‘s 15th anniversary tour stop on September 15th at the Rickshaw Theatre. Full details can be found here.

The band’s new EP ‘Pandora‘ was released last month on May 20th viaiTunes and www.CelestialRuin.com. Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, their catchy, singable and epic tunes draw on lyrical themes of fantasy and horror.

Drummer Adam Todd comments on the EP:

“The music on ‘Pandora’ is about unleashing chaos, beauty and all emotions into the world. It celebrates both the joy and the pain that emotions can create. The lyrics on this release come from a mix of personal experiences and fantasy elements. Most of the were written during a time when Larissa was going through recovery from a surgery and was unable to speak, sing and barely able to stand up. So the frustration, sadness, anger and fear she felt during her recovery created “Pandora”.”

About:

Canadian band CELESTIAL RUIN is styled after European Symphonic Rock/Metal but executed with a decidedly North American flavor. Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable melodies, and rich symphonic textures. The compositions are “epic” by all accounts. Lyrical themes are mainly drawn from fantasy and horror, sometimes implying deeper meanings, sometimes just celebrating the subject matter.
Based out of Vancouver, BC, CELESTIAL RUIN started taking the scene by storm with their debut album “The Awakening”. Receiving favorable reviews in publications such as Rockstar Weekly Magazine professing a 4/5 star rating declaring, “If The Awakening is only the beginning of things to come, you’d best get on board now while the getting’s good.”
After successful 2012 and 2013 summer tours, CELESTIAL RUIN was offered many opportunities that included opening slots with Stone Temple Pilots, Leaves Eyes, Moonspell and being a featured performer for Vancouver Alternative Fashion Week for two consecutive years.
CELESTIAL RUIN is always looking for the next unique avenue to expose their distinctive sound. “We play in the grey area of rock music, we are too heavy for rock, but not heavy enough for metal” comments vocalist Larissa Dawn.
This is a praise that has been mirrored in many live reviews including Beat Route Magazine stating, “Celestial Ruin appears to be in a sub-genre scene of one…their differences are working to their advantage”.
From September- December 2015 they completed a cross Canada tour (Out of Exile) and are now preparing for the release of their 2016 EP ‘Pandora’ produced by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Revamp, Xandria).
“As a significant jump forward from our debut album, from song writing to production, this EP was a journey that allowed to us grow, and we hope that fans will grow with us.” says Larissa Dawn.
A collaborative writing effort by CELESTIAL RUIN, the May 20th release of ‘Pandora’ will showcase the best of their best shared with fans new and old alike.

CELESTIAL RUIN Streaming New EP ‘Pandora’ via Metal-Rules.com

New EP ‘Pandora’ Out May 20th

Upcoming Show Dates:

May 21 – Vancouver, BC – The Venue – info (CD Release Show)
Aug 25-28 – Metalocalypstick Fest – Valemount, BC – info

Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, Vancouver, BC’s European influenced symphonic metal band CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable and epic tunes that draw on lyrical themes of fantasy and horror, plus sometimes implying deeper meanings or just celebrating the subject matter at hand. Vocalist Larissa Dawn comments on the track:

“All the lyrics on “Pandora” were written about unleashing destruction into the world. Chaos caused by all the pain that negative emotions can create. A sort of cause and effect scenario. Each of the songs tells a different story and explores what happens when you make the wrong decision or fail to make any decision at all. Remaining stagnant and letting the world collapse in on you. The only song that kind of swerves from this theme is “No Quarter”, this song is more of a movie told through song. It follows the story of infamous pirate Davy Jones and the battle that ensues between him and a rival ship.

Pandora has a much darker feel to it and I hope it paints different pictures in peoples minds when they hear it. I want them to be able to imagine exactly what is going on, like it’s their own personal movie.”

“The concept of “Sense of Exile” is hopefully a relatable one, it’s about making a  life altering decision based on the needs and wants of others . Completely ignoring your own gut instinct and later recognizing that the choice you made has all kinds of negative repercussions. The sound and feel of this song may be high energy, but the lyrics and emotions behind it are that of anger, regret and despair. I’m sure many of us feel these mixed emotions frequently, so I am hoping the power behind the music allows people to just let out all their frustration and after think, “I fell a lot better now”.”

Cinematic Metal Orchestra OPERUS Posts New Lyric Video ‘Maya And The Wolf’, Supporting Sonata Arctica In Toronto March 31st

Upcoming Show Dates:

March 31 – Toronto, ON @ The Opera House w/ Sonata Arctica – Event info

EP Stream – Opus I – http://operus.bandcamp.com/album/opus-i

Toronto, ON based OPERUS creates compositions of heavy classical influenced metal without restriction on creativity in expressing thoughts and emotions from the brainchild of band founder Oscar Rangel. Unleashing their four track debut EP ‘Opus I’ during November 2015, the band have posted a new lyric video for their track ‘Maya And The Wolf’, which can be viewed at the following link below.

“I believe ‘Maya & the Wolf ‘ is the most interesting song in the album, its sound is very classical, yet the story telling in the lyrics and the instrumentation gives it folkish undertones as well. This is the song we chose to produce a lyric video for because we believe this is the most “relatable” song in the EP and yet it still sounds heavy and it is clear that its part of a metal album. The instrumental part in the middle is one of the many “band solo” sections I have worked over the years using mainly the counterpoint composition technique, where all the instruments play different melodies at once to build up a very interesting sounding passage.” comments band founder Oscar Rangel.

About:
Toronto, ON based OPERUS creates compositions of heavy classical influenced metal without restriction on creativity in expressing thoughts and emotions from the brainchild of band founder Oscar Rangel.

“I have always been a huge fan of performing arts, not only music, but also theater, circus, and contemporary dance, some ballet, etc. I always wanted to combine as many of my influences as possible that includes many metal sub-genres and other disciplines, hence I started roaming towards the idea of “Opera”, but more in the classical sense, and less in the modern “metal opera” movement (Avantasia, Aina, and many more).” says Rangel.

First composing in Mexico before relocating to Toronto, ON, the solo project at the time went under the name ‘Masquerade of Opera’ and went on to record a demo in 2009 entitled “Winter Nightmare”, which was named after Rangel’s first cold winter of that year in Canada.

Fast forward five years later to 2014, Rangel who is also a former member of Annihilator and bassist for Mastery, changed the name of his project to OPERUS to better describe it and push towards creating a bigger production.

““Operus” Stems from the combination of two highly “classical” words: “Opus”, which was used in the previous times to mark musical creations (Opus 1 = creation 1). And “Opera” which is a form of theater where the script is performed singing.” says Rangel.

Recruiting Will Patterson (Vocals) (ex-Anurysm, ex-Exile), Robin Howe (Cello), Wojtek Sokolowski (Bass/Vocals) (Eclipse Eternal), Rob Holden (Guitar) (ex-Left Hand Creation) and Alan Madhavan (Drums) (ex-Nephelium) (now replaced by drummer J.J. Tartaglia (Skull Fist, Final Trigger)), the group recorded their first EP ‘Opus I’ with all instrumentation written by Rangel (Guitar/Vocals).

The debut EP ‘Opus I’ was unleashed during November 2015 and features four tracks of cinematic themes of powerful metal to fill fans mind with images and stories with a sound based on lyrics from philosophical topics such as what it means to be human and alive in a world full of violence, greed plus our evolution as a species.

“We felt these tracks display the most of what we sound like. We wanted our debut EP to portrait as much of the textures and colours we put in our music. Plus “Opus I” as it states our first creation is an “introduction letter” for everyone to know who we are, we made it all ourselves and now that we have something to show we are working on a bigger project.” comments Rangel.

With the completion of their EP, Rangel has several albums worth of finished material ready to go for their debut full length that they plan to record later this year to add to their performance that goes beyond a music show or a metal gig, but a full on metal orchestrated experience.

“they’ve got a good sense of humor, and they sound top-notch” – Metal Sucks

“boozy blast of heathen prog” – Team Rock

“Le metal a du talent.”  – Metal France

“If you’d like a taste of the brew Protokult has on tap, check out the eclectic, hoppy folk thrasher “Get Me a Beer”. Indeed this mix of traditional folk, thrash metal, death metal, and other genres will have you stomping your feet and drinking too fast.`- Yell Magazine

“The rousing opening track “Get Me A Beer” is alcohol-fueled folk metal with similarities to bands like Korpiklaani, but they have many other facets… It’s an extremely diverse album” – Heavy Metal. About.com

“Ah this album was a pleasure to review. So many albums are a slog to get through, but I was sorry when No Beer In Heaven ended…All the band are excellent musicians and you can hear their joy at playing their music. Ekaterina Pvatlova brings another dimension to the band too; her vocals are nothing you’ve heard in metal before, and I love the touch she brings with the woodwind instruments…I love the track “Get Me A Beer” – it could be marketed as a cure for depression. Elsewhere, the contrast between folk and metal works very harmoniously: heavy and uplifting at the same time. Joyous stuff! The band also have a good sense of humour, and while they can be serious, this is an enjoyable life-affirming album to listen to, which is as it should be. Our lives are brief; we should try and enjoy our spell on this earth! I love the album artwork and presentation too. This is a band the world needs to hear more of. Highly recommended! – Hellbound

“a superb album. Protokult gives folk-metal a new nice dimension. Their progressive folk-metal approach is a very delicious one. Don’t let the ‘beer-titles’ fool you, the band goals are far beyond beer-humpaa. They’re far more serious, despite of the sometimes quite merry tunes. This is one of the best folk-metal albums I’ve heard this year” – Folk-Metal.nl

“Protokult is a colourful collective, made up of four guys and a lady…It is a versatile album…progressive twists and turns in the songs and surprising approaches.” – Lords of Metal

“The very second I started to listen to No Beer In Heaven and “Get Me A Beer” came on I was instantly hooked. Instantly Protokult kills it with a killer opening riff that is a combination of electric guitar and synthesizer. “Get Me A Beer” has one of the wildest mix of genres and styles that I have heard in quite some time.” – Kingston Music Reviews

“Let’s mark the list down, shall we: Awesome Folk music spanning different areas of sound and direction, check! Creative and art work based around an old fashioned beer hall, check! And last, but certainly not least, BEER themed music!!!!.” – Metal Temple

“Folk and metal comes together in a epic way with Protokult. The mix is perfect for the party and other festivity’s that needs a nice kick in the ass, like a metal heads funeral. Hooks, beer and the ever changing change ups makes this LP one for the books.” Tommy Tee – The Metal Factory on Insane Realm Radio.com

“Although PROTOKULT is a Canadian-based group, the members come from various backgrounds (Polish, Irish, Russian, Czech) and the result is a marvellous mix of Canadian and international forces. The goal is to unite these cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash and black metal for head-bangers everywhere.” – Demented Magazine

“Most bands go on the road to promote the CD and encourage fans to buy it but this album would actually encourage me to go and see the band. The music speaks and says that this band will be well worth watching live.” – Extreme Metal Television

“Anyone who has seen this band live knows that the beer maidens will be pouring potent potables into ever thirsty mouths at the front of the stage. Before this delightful feature comes to fruition, the fans come in close, sing along, and dance the metal jig during the pagan musical onslaught from the band. We are instantly transported to villages, and forests of another era.” – Metal Master Kingdom (Live Review)

“All in all No Beer In Heaven is an extra large package of dark folk metal here to drink and party with you. If you’re a folk fan, be sure to give them a listen. The album is a solid piece and an enjoyment to even non-folk fans. Oh, and they also love the ‘Water of Life’ (that is vodka if you didn’t know already).” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

“They belong amongst the ranks of bands like Moonsorrow and Skyforger…Almost every song twists and turns through several folk metal transformations, without ever tapping into cheesy or overly tired clichés.”- Metal Observer (2010 review for Ancestral Anthems)

“Their songs pulse and writhe like a sinuous living thing.”- Exclaim (2012 review of Marzena)
