Blending heavy rock, progressive metal, and operatic grandeur, “Be A Man” stands as a powerful anthem of inner rebirth. IMPERATORE is a rock and metal band from Perth, Australia, blending the power of heavy riffs, progressive structures, and operatic emotion into a cinematic sound that’s both modern and timeless. Founded in 2022 by Zoran Cunjack, Imperatore was born from a vision to unite the strength of metal with the grandeur of classical and symphonic music, creating an experience that transcends genre boundaries.

Italian melodic death metallers Dying Awkward Angel return today, August 22nd, 2025, with their most intense and uncompromising work to date, the new full-length album “The Missing Frame“, released via Rockshots Records.

Formed in 1998 in the underground metal scene of Turin by guitarist and main composer Edoardo Demuro, the band forged its style drawing from the Gothenburg melodeath wave (In Flames, At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity) and the aggression of American thrash and death metal, adding its own unmistakable Italian touch. Over the years, they have shared the stage with Decapitated, Impaled Nazarene, Necronomicon, Forgotten Tomb, Node, and many more, building a solid reputation for their visceral and high-energy live shows.

“The Missing Frame” follows the critically acclaimed “Absence Of Light” (2018) and was anticipated by the singles “Music Kills” and “9.99”. Written during a period of renewed creative focus, the album is faster, heavier, and more deliberate, the result of what the band calls “a brutal and honest cooperation between us all.”

Lyrically, the record delves into themes of duality, good and evil, instinct and control, reality and illusion, often drawing from deeply personal experiences, stories, and nightmares of the band members. Tracks like “9.99” question the value of human life, while “Music Kills” explores the double-edged power of music itself.

Musically, the album delivers the cold precision of Swedish melodic death metal combined with the raw energy of American metal, all with a modern and direct production approach. “Don’t expect what you expect. Expect what you don’t,” the band warns.

Recorded at Bottleneck Studios in Turin and produced by the band, “The Missing Frame” is an album that stays true to the band’s roots while pushing their boundaries further than ever before.

Coinciding with the album’s release, the band unveils their newest music video for the track “The Inner Paradox”, a haunting allegory of deep depression. It portrays a layered prison that might almost seem bearable, if not for the grim reality that the world beyond its walls is even more harrowing.

Dying Awkward Angel is an Italian melodic death metal band formed in 1998 by guitarist Edoardo Demuro and drummer Ivan Longo. Influenced by the ferocity and melody of the ‘90s extreme metal scene—drawing from the Gothenburg sound as well as UK and US death and thrash metal—the band quickly developed a distinctive style that blends raw aggression, dark atmospheres, and introspective lyricism.

Meshing styles like post-metal, gothic/doom, punk, post-hardcore/screamo, post-rock, shoegaze, black/death metal, and alternative rock, Italian experimental metal outfit SVNTH‘s fourth studio album, “Pink Noise Youth,” is ready for its coronation on April 18th, 2025, via These Hands Melt Records.

Before it officially unleashes digitally and physically (CD / Vinyl), SVNTH has teamed up with Decibel Magazine for the album’s full-stream premiere, which can be heard HERE.

The band comments on the release of “Pink Noise Youth”:

“If the previous record Spring in Blue was about facing life’s struggles from a childhood perspective, Pink Noise Youth is based on exploring awareness as an adult in late youth, trying to give a voice to a generation emotionally unstable and chaotic as pink noise. It is the second part of the band’s own “trilogy of colors”. Musically, we intended to stay outside of genres and labels where elements of hardcore, metal, shoegaze, post-rock, and unconventional instrumentation such as electric indian sitar, classical, and 12-string guitars are blended in the same pot. People will surely welcome it with curiosity.”

Vocalist and bassist Rodolfo Ciuffo adds:

“Lyrically, most of the inspiration comes from personal life events, relationships, and conversations with people and reflections about existential topics; in several cases, it also comes from movies and books.”

Following SVNTH‘s 2020 “Spring in Blue”, “Pink Noise Youth” demonstrates the band’s continued evolution, deliberately transcending genre boundaries. The album promises to take listeners on a cohesive journey through its carefully crafted track sequence, maintaining the band’s tradition of creating conceptually unified works. The music from SVNTH has always aimed to give the listener emotional vibes. This record, in particular, is conceptually based on exploring late youth emotions, and the music created reflects such instability.

With a various background of musical influences and artistic inspirations, SVNTH (written all caps and pronounced “Seventh”, formerly “Seventh Genocide”) from Rome, Italy has been shaping a unique equilibrium of sounds through the years moving across a huge variety of directions on the palette of contemporary alternative music to create a distinctive soundtrack for inner emotions, life scenarios, and existentialist questioning. Expanding the energy of black and post-metal over the mellow and contemplative boundaries of shoegaze, art pop, and cinematic post-rock.

In its opening phase a lilting guitar gently and mysteriously rings, gilded in reverb, eventually paired with a gritty and growling bass chewing gravel way down below. It’s an entrancing but still somewhat menacing overture, but you can begin to feel the intensity and turmoil build as that phase evolves and the music in the upper reaches begins to swarm and sear and the drums start hammering. As the rhythm section surges, the guitars still brilliantly ring but pulsate like hot blood in the veins, and the vocals are even more scorching. The bassist seizes attention here, but so do the vocals as they change to mid-ranging singing with a gloomy cast. Yet the fiery race resumes, fierce but also stricken, and then accelerates even more. “This track critiques the superficiality of modern society, particularly the harmful effects of social media on mental health. With lines like “effects and filters, digital weapons,” the song highlights how the endless stream of digitally altered images fuels feelings of inadequacy, especially in women. This cycle of comparison can lead to doom scrolling, depression, and even suicide, stripping away authenticity and turning people into hollow, “plastic” versions of themselves. Emerging metal act Heteromorphic Zoo, from Victoria, BC, Canada, is set to captivate audiences with their debut EP “New World”, produced by Chris Wiseman (Shadow of Intent, Currents) plus mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). Coinciding with the EP launch, the band has unveiled the music video for their single “Ritual of Fidelity”, which they comment on:

“This song is about an ancient power awakening within a great tomb, filled with monsters. The leaders declare their loyalty (or fidelity) to the overlord. Musically, the actual “ritual of fidelity” takes place in the middle of the song. It’s a classical 3-voice fugue between the violin, lead guitar, and rhythm guitars + bass with a subject, tonal response, 2 counter subjects, and everything. Of course, it’s not a pure fugue since other instruments are also playing, but that’s the skeleton of it, and the callback to an old baroque form brings out the ritualistic nature of the song.”

“Ritual of Fidelity” has a memorable lead guitar melody during its chorus, chuggy yet melodic verse riffs, and an overall more neoclassical sound. The violin is fairly subdued and in the background until the moment of the ritual fugue, since that moment is meant to introduce it to the listener for the first time.

Born from a desire to create “Worship Music for Monsters”, Heteromorphic Zoo‘s five-track EP showcases a diverse and extreme sound that pushes the boundaries of modern metal. Lyrically, “New World” tells the story of a grand alliance of monstrous beings invading a new realm, with perspectives shifting between the monsters, their overlord, and their enemies. The band’s innovative approach combines groove and melody, intricate riffs, and powerful breakdowns, resulting in a sonic experience that defies easy categorization. They are recommended for fans of In Flames, Within the Ruins, and Ne Obliviscaris.

“I am pleased to finally unleash this labor of love. I started this project in 2022 and manically wrote two albums, fixated on creating paranoid yet beautiful progressive rock to express my enjoyment of dystopian science fiction that sees humanity losing its very essence to machines. The initial point musically was to have Adrian Belew join Voivod in my bizarro musical mind. Seattle-based Whythre’s new album “Impregnate My Hate” is about to be released on Friday, May 26th and before it officially drops, its full album stream is being premiered on Metal-Rules HERE.

Whether it’s writhing with wailing solos, slithering with sinuous synth lines, or awash with waves of riptide riffs, Whythre’s latest is without remorse. They came to lay waste and write solid album titles — and they’re all out of album titles. Consequently, “Impregnate My Hate” opens with the single “Scorchbreath”, an onslaught of solos, slamming breakdowns, subtle orchestration, and a sing-along chorus that embodies Whythre’s deft formulation of melodic death metal singed with a blackened edge.

Having been fixtures in the Seattle metal scene since 2016, band members Shon Petrey, Adam Chambers, Eric Close, and Steve Fournier know their way around both riff craft and laying down a tight performance. But Whythre’s latest expulsion of fury seethes like a band that’s only getting started, from the first violent lick to the final double-bass kick.

Follow along to standout tracks like “Immanence”, which thunders along with the certainty of slow death and offers little in the way of forgiveness, or to Scorpions of Sinai, which has a groove guaranteed to move any circle pit. The fury of Whythre’s writing is real, but fury is rarely this much fun: expect to get your ass kicked, and enjoy it.

When asked how they expect the album to be received by fans, Chambers replies that they just enjoy the creative process and evoking good memories, and are otherwise not concerned about how other people view it. Petrey expects that his mother will be just as, if not more disappointed with this one as previous efforts, Fournier suggests that fans will be surprised with their new material citing new blood in the band and a concise vision helped shape their most impressive record to date; and Close says that fans will be able to feel the energy from the album and that it will provide an electrifying experience for them.

For those who have the privilege of seeing Whythre play live, at the conclusion of their performance they will either hear the Mortal Kombat voice in their heads saying ‘FLAWLESS VICTORY’ or feel relief that they chose to shelter in the bathroom during their set.

The album was produced and mixed by Shon Petrey, it was mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Recordings, the album artwork was done by Andrzej Masianis and the graphic design was done by Ryan Ricketts.

Israel’s Neolia is a force to be reckoned with in the world of progressive metal, and their self-titled debut album is proof of that. With intricate instrumentation, soaring vocals, and unrelenting energy, this album is a must-listen for any fan of progressive music. According to the band, this album has traveled a lifetime with them already, and they are excited to be releasing it to the world. They share their thoughts:

“Being able to shine a light and allowing others to see, hear, and feel what we feel this elaborate vision is in itself a blessing and it is what keeps us going. We wanted to allow new emotions and new subjects that we had felt were not given the proper attention, such as child neglection, mental illnesses, personal family issues, torture and more to be given the option to be approached from a perspective of a fictional story in order for people to be able to connect to the complexity of the lyrics more easily.”

They continue to explain that although this is a concept album, each track presents its own unique characteristics and expresses a variety of styles and musical ideas that are derived from world music, jazz, and electronic at times. The album also incorporates different interludes some atmospheric and some piano based adding more emotional layers and subcontext to the mood changes in the album. It is intended to feel artistic in its nature and to convey a message of freedom.

Neolia was formed to give to others and to encourage people to come together. They give in a few dimensions — one is personal and spiritual, and the other is musical and expressive.

The self-titled album was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Metallica, Pantera, Nirvana) and is available as of May 5th, 2023.

“This band is going to be huge. You know how Tool and the Mars Volta developed into their own sound and how they have a legion of devoted fans? That’s what Israel’s Neolia is about to do with this self titled debut album.” – Transcending the Mundane

“Karma”, (the video) accompanied by a beautiful shot somewhere in the deserts of Israel, has that fantastic balance of aggression and melody that I love about alternative metal. At its more frenetic moments, like the excellent transitions from the heavier moments near the end of the track and the more melodic chorus, it reminds me of The Mars Volta, and that is one big compliment. Elsewhere, Yerushalmi’s guest vocals are expertly utilized to balance the rawer, more harried vocals of the band’s own singer, Ben Reiss. Together, they present the major melodic force on the track, while the instruments deliver well written, complex, and undeniable groove. This mix is exactly what alternative metal is so good for, hitting on both the emotional and the visceral level of enjoyment. The track ends up being both interesting to dissect and take apart but also something you can move and sing to.
