AITTALA Unleash New Performance Video “Blacklisted,” the First to Feature New Bassist Dane Taylor

+ Tour Dates (WV, VA, TN, NC)

New EP “Ill-Gotten Gains” Out Now via Exitus Stratagem Records

AITTALA Lineup – Gary ‘Smith’ Zeus (Drums), Eric Aittala (Guitar/Vox), Dane Taylor (Bass)

AITTALA (pronounced EYE‑tah‑la) has released the official performance video for “Blacklisted,” the third track from their second EP of 2025, “Ill‑Gotten Gains,” out now on Exitus Stratagem Records.

The clip marks a milestone for the long‑running metal project; it is the first video to feature new bassist Dane Taylor, joining Eric Aittala (guitars/vocals) and Gary “Zeus” Smith (drums). The trio’s chemistry is on full display, delivering a tight, groove‑driven performance that captures the grit and weight of the track.

A groove‑ and sludge‑inspired standout, “Blacklisted” serves as the thematic counterpoint to the EP’s opening tracks “Isolation” and “Ill‑Gotten Gains.” Where those songs explore the chaos created by self‑serving actions, “Blacklisted” flips the perspective, calling out the people who manipulate, exploit, and leave destruction in their wake.

Musically, the song leans into thick riffs, a grinding mid‑tempo pulse, and the band’s signature blend of heaviness and melody. It’s a concise, punishing statement that reinforces why AITTALA’s sound remains difficult to categorize, and impossible to ignore.

Watch the video via its premiere on Metal Addicts HERE.

Released this past November, “Ill‑Gotten Gains” continues AITTALA’s tradition of blurring metal subgenres, pulling from traditional metal, doom, groove, progressive elements, and more to create a cohesive, emotionally charged experience.

The EP’s lyrics trace a path from chaos to consequence to the search for redemption, examining how people create disorder for personal gain, face the fallout of those choices, and grapple with whether forgiveness is still possible. Each track sharpens that arc: “Isolation” delivers doomy heaviness and shifting time signatures as it confronts consequences; “Ill‑Gotten Gains” rides a bouncing 8‑string riff into the mindset of exploiting chaos; “Blacklisted” uses groove‑sludge grit to call out manipulative behavior; “Ever After” offers a modern metal ballad of internal struggle and uncertain redemption; and “Ashes” leans into traditional heavy metal as it follows someone spiraling downward and pulling others with them.

The EP cover features an updated version of Frank, AITTALA’s long‑running mascot, a cartoon pig head inside a pentagram, created in 2014 for the album “Effigy.” Frank represents the shady figure who helps acquire “ill‑gotten gains”…for the right price. His return on the cover ties directly into the EP’s themes of corruption, consequence, and moral decay.

AITTALA’s sound resists simple labels, blending classic heavy metal, doom, groove, progressive and power metal, thrash, and hard rock into a style that’s distinctly their own. Lyrically, Eric Aittala pulls from the darker edges of human experience, crafting songs that balance heaviness with introspection.

Founded in 1991 in the Netherlands, AITTALA quickly became a staple of the Dutch metal scene, even opening for The Gathering and Sadist after releasing their 1993 EP “Selling Heaven.”

After disbanding and later resurrecting the project in 2008, AITTALA released six full‑length albums between 2009 and 2022, followed by the “Machines” EP (2025). Each release showcases the band’s evolution while preserving their unmistakable core sound.

Recommended for fans of Mastodon, Eyehate God, Baroness, Crowbar, Katatonia, live music enthusiasts can catch AITTALA at the following show dates below.

“Six full-lengths, two EPs, strong and steady since 2008. Dang. What keeps North Carolina trio AITTALA going? Sheer compulsion for music making is my guess. There’s nothing like the experience of the real thing, despite the obscene ease and seductive sophistication of AI fakery. To hear and feel heavy music live from their minds and voices and hands of real human beings just like you – well, there’s just nothing like it. Bands with stubborn longevity like Aittala serve as an inspiration to the scene. Pick up an instrument, get to jamming, let your voice be heard. If this is your first encounter with the band, perhaps “Isolation” is as good an introduction as any. Mysterious strumming, powerful emphatic chords, and wall-shaking disruption clears the path for soulful, soaring guitar soloing and somber Gothic intonations.” – Doomed & Stoned (2025)

“Bookended by “Machines (Prologue)” and “Machines (Epilogue)”, the album’s structure feels like a full-circle journey. One that captures the essence of the band’s evolution. The blend of storytelling and heavy music makes it clear why these tracks were worth bringing back. With Machines, Aittala doesn’t just revisit the past. They make it hit harder than ever.” – Amplify The Noise (2025 – Machines EP)

“Captivatingly versatile, genre-connecting with plenty of attitude. An intensely powerful and emotionally captivating Electric Doom/Heavy/Power HouseTrip that is excellent at combining expansive melodies and atmospheric melancholic heavy touch. 8/10” – FFM-Rock (2025 – Machines EP)

“A pure blast of good tunes flying around for life. A retro llike cover artwork, it matches it all. The atmosphere and the old tunes still ringing after so many years like it was yesterday. A very good album to own with pleasure. Aittala is here to stay, get your dose of good tunes 100/100.” – The Metal Mag (2025 – Machines EP)

“Eric Aittala is obviously nostalgic on ‘Machines’. But that in no way means that the sound is frozen in the past. On the contrary, the production is modern and powerful. The individual songs are thus transferred to the here and now. A good album, even if the band is ‘only’ a duo.” – Metalheads Forever Magazine (2025 – Machines EP)

This past November, American power metal warriors LORDS OF THE TRIDENT unleashed their 7th studio album “Shadows From The Past”, which they will be touring this January with A Sound of Thunder in support of (dates listed below). While promoting their latest album, LORDS OF THE TRIDENT also launched a Patreon campaign to give fans more exclusive content. One such perk is the band’s first 100% Patreon-funded acoustic album entitled “Pull The Plug” that features all-acoustic re-recorded LORDS OF THE TRIDENT fan-favorite songs from past albums along with a few loved covers by the band.

Vocalist Fang VonWrathenstein comments:

“Acoustic …metal? You wouldn’t think it would be a thing, but here we are! The first time we tried playing our songs on acoustic guitars, they instantly burst into flames. Some experimentation was needed before we were able to successfully record. We tried fastening plate metal to the backs of the guitars, and even went so far as to completely coat a guitar in liquid steel. It took a lot of broken and melted guitars, but we FINALLY found a method that worked. Enjoy one of the most SOOTHING metal albums you’ll ever hear…Perfect for your next heavy metal date night!”

To hear the full stream of “Pull The Plug”, please visit the band’s Bandcamp here.

LORDS OF THE TRIDENT Go Retro! Make SEGA CD Game That Actually Works!
To Play Interactive Band Playthrough ‘Chasing Shadows’

“The Metal, Spikes, And Chicken-Fried Steak Tour” w/ A SOUND OF THUNDER (OH, NC, GA)

Limited Edition Blood Red Vinyl For New Album ‘Shadows From The Past”

Currently, it’s trendy for many indie and underground bands to release their music on dead media like cassettes, but Lords of The Trident has taken it one step further. Their latest video for the song “Chasing Shadows” off of their latest album “Shadows From The Past” is being released exclusively as a game that actually works on the SEGA CD console.

The video game console, popular from 1991 – 1996 has been out of production for nearly 20 years, but that doesn’t stop vocalist Fang VonWrathenstein from collecting Sega CD games and memorabilia. As luck would have it, one of the producers from Digital Pictures – a company responsible for the production of a number of Full Motion Video (FMV) games – is a huge fan of Lords of The Trident. After numerous talks, he was able to recruit some of his former Digital Pictures colleagues and the idea to craft the game was set in motion.

The band and the crew worked in secret for numerous months to create a “Make My Music Video” game for the system. These types of games were also created for Kris Kross, Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, and INXS. Much of the backbone for previous Digital Pictures games (such as the controversial hit “Night Trap”) was used to create the game. “The real trick was making the console display widescreen,” Tom Zito the executive producer writes. “The old games were used to a smaller, non-widescreen display, so a lot of that had to be written from the ground up.”

To add to its exclusivity, only five official copies were ever created, and the music video can only be seen by playing the game, or by watching various playthroughs online. One copy of the game went to Pennsylvania-based YouTube gaming channel Halberd, run by the power metal vocalist Lee Prisby of the band Klaymore (and his video game channel Halberd). Another went to Ryan Schremp, a personal friend of the band and owner of the popular blog Topless Robot. A third copy made its way to long-time friends of the band, Guys Games and Beer.

The Lords of The Trident have also posted their own playthrough video, demonstrating the game achieving a perfect 100% score. On the SEGA CD version there are a number of different levels of playthroughs available that correspond to other previously-published Lords of The Trident music videos, but as of yet, no channels have posted them.

“It’s a dream come true for us (me, specifically) to have our very own Sega CD game. I’d like to thank Tom Zito and the rest of the guys at Digital Pictures for pursuing this crazy idea of ours. I can tell you I’ve already played the crap out of this game, and although we can’t make more copies for wider release, at the very least you can watch our 100%ed playthrough online!” says vocalist Fang VonWrathenstein.

In additional news, LORDS OF THE TRIDENT announce their first quest of 2019 will be for “The Metal, Spikes, And Chicken-Fried Steak Tour” with A SOUND OF THUNDER. The metal warriors will be performing four dates kicking off the first in Cincinnati on January 17th and wrapping up the crusade in Atlanta on January 20th.

Their new album is a curious collection of songs that are inspired by everything the band loves and considers nerdy. Showcasing a creative sound influenced by geeky comic books, trading cards, classic 8 bits games to today’s future 3D experiences, the album follows up their 2011 EP ‘One Big Quicksand’ recorded and produced by Jayson DeZuzio (Coheed and Cambria, My Chemical Romance) that was released via Blue Sapphire/Universal Music Canada.

“Though this won’t be our first time touring in the USA, each show we booked was in a city or state we have never played before. We’ve already compiled another list of dream locations to visit based on the Food Network, too.” comments bassist Tim Kealey.

“Here’s Y is the biggest departure from our formative years as a band, but we’re really happy with the end result. There’s just something strangely satisfying about an eerie little pop song that essentially runs down a list of the reasons why you disappoint so many people. That being said, I believe my generations better years are still ahead of us, and hopefully this song – with a little tough love – can help that transition.” comments guitarist Brock Tinsley.
