Before ever actually writing the album or going in to the studio to record it, I spent some time with someone personal who has synesthesia, the ability to hear/ see color when they listen to music. You know it was just one of those crazy moments when every word, and every action means something to you, that creates that still frame in your head that I will never forget, but you haven’t noticed yet. Thanks to a group of high school friends fusing their influences into one cohesive sound and the flip of a coin to help choose between band names, Vancouver progressive metal band Quartered’s moniker has certainly given itself meaning over the years.

Inspired by bands like Deftones, Tool and Thrice from early on – Quartered’s focus has always been on conveying moody emotion and mixing heavy grooves, experimental riffs, and hook-laden bridges to paint a picture with lyrics that tell a story while keeping one major goal in mind: longevity.

Heavily influenced by “memories and how senses play a big part in connecting and helping us remember parts of our lives,” the title Eyes and Ears was chosen because “you can’t un-see the things you’ve witnessed and hearing is such a powerful way to trigger memories,” explains vocalist Greggor Williams.

Great heavy metal doesn’t waste time, and Where Giants Once Stood have hit the ground running. This July, the Toronto metallers return with the video for their new single ‘Living in Security’, filmed on location in Toronto and directed by LoganSwinkels of Logan Lights Creative. An anthem for taking control of your own destiny, ‘Living in Security’ deconstructs small-town complacency and showcases the band’s most creatively ambitious material to date.

‘Living in Security’ is the first single to be taken from the new EP Live Above, due for release September 2, 2014. Live Above is the natural successor to 2013’s The Changing EP, which tore onto the iTunes metal charts in July 2013 with a debut at no.2, earning critical praise, sponsorship from Ernie Ball and a place on SoundSHOCK’s “Best of 2013” feature along the way. Fans of the ever-growing comedic metal band PSYCHOSTICK will have a special treat this week. Nine months after a successful crowd-funding campaign to build a studio with promise of new material, PSYCHOSTICK is ready to give the first sneak-peek at what they’ve been working on. The guys will be broadcasting live on YouTube September 18th at 8pm Central (http://www.psychostick.com/webcast) to announce the new album’s title, answer questions, give away prizes and have an all-around good time goofing off with fans.

The new album is the follow up to the humorcore kings’ 2011 album ‘Space Vampires VS Zombie Dinosaurs in 3-D’ and singles ‘Obey The Beard’ (debut at #14 on US radio metal charts), ‘Dogs Like Socks’, a hilarious metal cover of ‘Reading Rainbow’. Touring around the US of A over the years spreading their laugh making tunes, PSYCHOSTICK was on a series of tours in 2014 recently wrapping their Blood Sprinkles and Guts Tour with One Eyed Doll, Wild Throne plus were on ‘The ‘Merica Fuck Yeah Tour’ w/ Dog Fashion Disco, The Bunny, The Bear and the Mad Marchness Tour, which included a stop at SXSW.

Harnessing their crazy sense of humor and love of all things metal, vocalist Rob “Rawrb” Kersey and guitarist Josh “The J” Key joined forces with drummer Alex “Shmalex” Dontre and bassist Matty J “Moose” to create Pyschostick, a band they’ve coined as humorcore. With hilarious lyrics, heavy riffs, notorious stage antics and high-energy performances, the band has caused millions of laughs around the world and hundreds of mosh pits across the US, often simultaneously, since its birth in Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Almost 100 percent do-it-yourself, Psychostick never strays from its signature sound, a combination of heavy music that Chimaira, Machine Head, and Hatebreed would be proud of, and wit and humor that would make Tenacious D and Weird Al Yankovic holler with laughter.

With three full-length albums behind them – “We Couldn’t Think of a Title,” “Sandwich,” and their holiday album, “The Flesh Eating Rollerskate Holiday Joyride” – the band released their latest record, “Space Vampires vs. Zombie Dinosaurs in 3D,” in 2011, following it up with a tour with Mushroomhead to add to their total count of 21 nationwide tours that have hit 47 states.

After a successful 2013 that saw these touring ninja warriors hit the road for multiple shows on the ‘Our Tour Can Beat Up Your Tour’, ‘Blow Your Fingers Off’ summer tour, their late summer dates with American Head Charge plus appearances at summer fests that included Rockapalooza, A2 Fest, Breast Fest Biker Bash, and Dirtfest. Vancouver, BC jazz thrash architects EXPAIN has teamed up with MetalVideo.com for the premiere of their latest video ‘Aggressions Progression’, which features clips from the band’s performance earlier this summer on local concert promoter The Invisible Orange‘s Metal Cruise.
