Out Now! Canadian Stoner Doom Rock Z-COCOON’s New EP “Angels”

Montreal, Canada’s Z-Cocoon has unveiled their new EP “Angels”, out now as of June 6th, 2025, via Earache Digital Distro. This third EP is the first full band release from Z-Cocoon, which Marc Zolla founded as a solo endeavour in 2017 under the previous moniker Pink Cocoon. Now a power trio with Michel Paradis (Drums) and John Burton (Bass), are prepared to offer electrically-charged heavy music with savage guitar jabs, rockin’ blues, and hot solos.

Fans can expect a three-track EP that is very energetic and sounds exactly like what’s recorded. The guitar solos are very bluesy yet metal-sounding, and are contrasted with catchy melodic vocals, reminiscent of DIO or Pentagram. “Angels” is a mix of heavy blues meets doom metal, meets rock n roll. Heavy grooving riffs and dark vocals with slashing swinging solos. Lyrically inspired by comics and personal experiences.

“We are extremely excited to release our new EP, Angels, to the world! It’s the first recordings that were performed as a band, and everything recorded was mixed in-house at Casa Cocoon. Very proud of the outcome. We have a lot more music coming after this EP, and we can’t wait to keep this cocoon train rolling. Canadian aggro-metal troupe CHÜZO has a knock-out music video that is sure to leave you “Bruised and Broken”. The video is in support of the Montreal band’s latest EP “M.T.M.D (Maximum Threshold, Minimum Decay)” produced with Kevin Jardine (Slaves On Dope, Uplift Recording Studio), and unleashed this past October.

“This track is about being pushed, provoked, and instigated to the point of no return. When in life one encounters certain individuals whose existence is to only make you angry and enraged; to bully you and disrespect you beyond aggravation, and the inevitable result that losing your temper and seeing red does to the individual being provoked and instigated is what this track is about. The utter destruction and devastation that awaits the foolish person who dares to provoke a person who has been pushed to the edge of human insanity; fuck around and find out!” adds the band.

CHÜZO‘s new lineup features the ensnaring vocals of Taiwanese Brazilian transplant Mischa M joining local first-generation Chilean Canadian and mastermind Cristian S. along with Carlos G from Venezuela and Alex S from Russia who all have found Montreal, Canada to be their home-to-breed their blender of grindcore, Swedish death metal, thrash, and hardcore punk to transform a sub-genre dubbed ‘Aggro Metal’.

The EP’s lyrics are driven by self-reflection and daily struggles. The inspiration for writing comes from life experiences and trying to live past them, especially the traumatic ones. Using all bad energy from bad experiences to create something positive for yourself and the world. This EP speaks of vengeance and the bad side of dedicating your life to achieving your desired revenge despite your own life and sanity. Brutal Social Justice.

Formed in early 2019, Red Deer, AB’s Art Of Attrition is a band that redevelops “the typical” deathcore sound by delivering aggression with melody, atmosphere with intricacy, and brutality with technicality. Recorded with finetuned care so you can hear all the little fret squeaks before they ramp up the ambience straight from a John Fruscianterecord. With synths and other keys that chameleon-ize said maestro’s voice, later emulating the sound of a backing choir that then morphs into church organ. When the atmospherics basking in the background saunter forth, the darker shades of green start to realize and the track enters the domain of prog royalty. Set to release their fourth studio album “Dark Green” this February 2025, Montreal, Canada’s instrumental progressive psychedelic groove metal triad Tumbleweed Dealer is sharing their second single “Ghosts Dressed In The Weeds”.

Unlike all other tracks on the record, “Ghosts Dressed In The Weeds” is the band’s first foray into music with vocals as they paired up with Ceschi Ramos, whose versatility matches the group’s genre-bending sound.

Composed specifically for Tumbleweed Dealer to collaborate with Ceschi Ramos. The band first gave it a more repetitive pattern so Ramos could do a 16-bar rap. The trio then wrote the melodies with his voice in mind, and they crafted parts to serve as choruses. Ramos listened to the song over and over again as he wrote down his words. It became a symbiotic experience, which made the writing even more special as it stands alone as the only vocal track among an otherwise instrumental album.

Seb Painchaud explains the track further:

“The lyrics for Ghosts Dressed In Weeds were mostly written by Ceschi Ramos. I wrote the hooks first and let him in on my inspiration for this album: Alan Moore’s re-imagining of Swamp Thing’s origin story. The emphasis is on the moment where Swamp Thing gets dissected and has his worst enemy laugh while he explains to him that he is not a man turned into a plant, but rather a plant that absorbed a dead man’s memories through osmosis. That exact moment is the inspiration for the album. I didn’t want Ceschi to write specifically ABOUT the graphic novel though. It was enough for him to capture the essence of having your whole world turned upside down, your whole self-perception changed. When Swampy receives the news, he freaks out, breaks free, runs away, and lies down in a swamp without moving for over a month. We’ve all had moments where we just wanted to lay down in a marsh and die. We have felt like we didn’t know how to make sense of a revelation that shatters our self-image. My exact words to Ceschi were that he needed to capture that “How do I go on from here?” moment we have all had. And I think he did that perfectly.”

The new album “Dark Green” is Tumbleweed Dealer‘s effort to capture two essential parts in Alan Moore’s retelling of Swamp Thing’s origin. Firstly, the main character’s struggle and loss of identity. Secondly, they wanted to capture the antagonist’s transformation into nature’s anger towards men.

Each song is meant to feel like a complete journey where listeners are transported to a world where blues, psychedelia, and progressive rock intertwine. It’s been a long-awaited record and marks a bold new chapter for them since 2016’s “TDIII – Tokes, Hatred & Caffeine”. It’s a culmination of their growth as musicians and their desire to create something truly unique. Other notable guests on the album are Zach Strouse’s (Rivers Of Nihil, Burial In The Sky) guest saxophone solo and Antoine Baril’s (Augury, Obliveon) vintage keys for the album’s title track.

“I think the evolution between our third album, and this new one, will surprise some people. We didn’t write a follow-up to our last record. Instead, we incubated the band’s sound and sped up its evolution. If we kept on pace to release an album every year like we did at first, this would’ve been the 10^th one. But we had kids, and that slowed down the process—so this is an evolutionary leap forward that might be jarring. I think that anyone who enjoyed our previous releases will still find what they liked in our sound while enjoying the new variety we’ve brought to it.” says Painchaud.

Rimouski, Quebec’s Vortex announces they are pairing up with France’s XAON for an eastern Canadian tour this coming April followed by European dates in October and November.

Entitled “Symphony For The Dead Tour”, the Canadian edition of shows will kick off in Montreal, QC on April 15th and see both bands perform 10 dates across Quebec, Ontario, and New Brunswick with support on select shows from Omnivide, Strigampire, Ulfhednar, and Burning Attic (dates listed below).

The tour will also be in support of VORTEX‘s next release for 2025, a new 5-song EP to follow their third studio album “The Future Remains In Oblivion” released in 2023. That info will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Set to rattle mosh pits around the globe with their forthcoming album “Think Before You Think” at the end of this November, Canadian demolition thrash crew MUTANK is injecting onto screens their late music video “Bad Magnitude”.

“This is an easy one: there are no lyrics. An ode to thrash, this track is meant for fans to stretch their neck and bang away to the best instrumental you’ve ever heard!” adds the band.

The live clips in the video are taken from MUTANK‘s 2017 cross-Canada tour with Annihilator and Australia’s Mason. The video was filmed and edited by Chalky of Moshriff.com.

MUTANK‘s new album “Think Before You Think” will be released on Boonsdale Records on November 29th, 2024, following 2017’s EP “W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” and the first taste of new neck-breaking tunes in seven years. Featuring ten volcanic thrash tracks to blaze a new path to jackhammer a pure audio assault. Since 2009, Canada’s Valfreya has been honing their sound bringing in elements from black metal, and folk metal with touches of symphonic metal to create powerful music that has been heard around the world. Nate Silva is a Canadian guitarist and singer/songwriter who has traveled through several sonic worlds throughout his career such as touring North America and playing at the massive Wacken Open Air festival proving that his versatile guitar work and captivating tenor vocals shine across multiple musical genres. Now, embarking on a solo career, accompanied by drummer/vocalist Matt Babineau and bassist /vocalist Dan Joseph, he delivers a dynamic and versatile rock experience that builds on the high-energy foundation of his past endeavours.

To introduce his new direction to fans, he is gearing up to release his first album “The Chase” in May, and prior to that, the single “Cauterize”. Also, for those fortunate to be in the area, he is announcing album release shows in June and August. He shares his thoughts on the single:

“There is more 1990s alternative rock inspiration on this one, and likely the angriest song on the record. This is the uglier side of grieving the end of a relationship and trying to deal with infidelity. The words are pretty on the nose with this one, so I’ll let the lyrics speak for themselves. Musically, I wanted a groovier song on the album, and I also wanted a song that could have potential for jamming or opening up in the middle section in a live performance setting.”

As a natural-born performer, he is a delight to watch as he channels a commanding stage presence and encourages audience interaction. The live lineup presents as your classic rock power trio, and in a trio, every member has to be on top of their game onstage. They provide an engaging and rockin’ live show, where musical integrity and musicianship is combined with thoughtful songwriting.

Pakistan’s Death Metal Nightmare AZAAB Announces Canadian Tour In May With New Lineup

Azaab, the Islamabad-based death metal act, is thrilled to announce their upcoming Canadian tour in May 2024. The tour comes in the wake of significant lineup changes within the band, presenting a fresh chapter for Azaab.

Following the departure of their original vocalist, who moved to Saudi Arabia for work, and their bassist preparing for relocation, Azaab faced the challenge of finding new members in the midst of a serious shortage of death metal musicians in Pakistan. Fortunately, through a connection from a common friend, the band discovered Hassan Munir, a talented vocalist, and Sid, a skilled bassist, both based in Toronto, Canada. The introduction marked the beginning of a new era for Azaab. They share their excitement for the upcoming tour:

“After much planning and anticipation, we’re excited to announce that we will be hitting the road across Canada this May! Canada seemed like the obvious choice for our first tour since 2 out of 4 band members are based in Canada. Tyson Blaste (Plague. Becomes Astral, ex-Grindmother, ex-TheApex) is filling in on drums for this tour which makes it 3/5. I think it’s safe to say that the Azaab HQ has moved from Islamabad to Ontario. Other than that Canada has an amazing metal scene and we couldn’t be happier with playing live there.”

Azaab‘s latest album “Summoning The Cataclysm” released in 2022 on Satanath Records (Georgia), Maxima Music Pro (Indonesia), and on cassette from Tikoes Kecemploeng Prods (Indonesia) features guests Bobby Koelble (Death), Phil Tougas (First Fragment), Nick Mkhl (Sic Semper Tyrannis, Kepler, Brutal-Sphere) and Aissam El Hassani (Vile Utopia).

Showcasing their distinctive style that straddles the boundaries between old school and technical, melodic, and brutal, the album’s lyrical themes cover a wide range of topics, including horror, politics, human nature, the end of days, war, and sci-fi. Those with an interest in Morbid Angel, Vader, and Death should definitely plan to make one of their tour dates (listed below).
