Taking off towards the stars from the small town of Kimberly, Canada, PHAETON is bringing a new kind of instrumental spacey prog metal to listeners across the galaxy. They have been toiling away on their debut self-titled album, which will be released this past December.

In support of the debut album, they have released a guitar and bass playthrough for ‘March of the Synthetics’, a six and a half minute sojourn through delicate prog riffs and heavy pronounced bass work.

They quote that they anticipated taking their listeners “through space and time and feel a complete visceral release that can only be found through prog metal”.

Fans looking for something fresh and relaxing that is reminiscent of Rush, Dream Theater, and King Crimson should check out ‘March of The Synthetics’ via TheCirclePit‘s YouTube Channel at the following link: https://youtu.be/0K_9duq7vZw

BIO:

In the wilderness of Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada, with a fascination for astronomy, Kevin Thiessen (guitar), Daniel Airth (guitar), Colin Righton (percussion), and Ferdy Belland (bass) united to create the interplanetary, instrumental prog metal that would come to be known as Phaeton.

Since 2017, they have been working quickly as a collaborative unit, honing their skills and orchestrating an attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar.

Phaeton can be experienced with the release of the self-titled debut album out now as of December 21, 2018.

“An epic Progressive Metal listening experience.”  – Trevor Hatter (BeatRoute Magazine)

“This badass band makes a devastating impact with their high velocity musical assault.” – Time Lord (Progarchy)

“A sparkling, sizzling debut from PHAETON, taking us on a futuristic musical journey, with deep roots in the ancient past.” – Stephen Conrad (Progressive Rock Fanatics)

As their name foretells, Toronto heavy metallers PALE MARE are stampeding across Eastern Canada (QC/PEI/NS/NB) this May bringing with them death in the form of crushing, fuzzy groove over a total of nine stops.

Centered around big loud riffs, PALE MARE can be defined as thick and groovy with their upcoming album that is a “substantial step up from the first effort”, 2017’s self-titled EP released via Medusa Crush Records. The band explains further:

“The songs are heavier, louder, groovier, more crushing and they showcase a much more diverse side of the band, where we are able to explore different sonic territory. When we hit the road, fans will get some new sounds to feast on!”

Quoting their music as “loud, intense, ugly and heavy as fuck”, PALE MARE looks forward to devastating fans especially those who also enjoy Mastodon, Baroness and High On Fire.

Since the release, their first full-length album, The Fallen Sun, Sludgehammer from Toronto, Canada have been riding a wave of great reviews for the record as well as their live show.

Originally formed in 2013 by Jeff Wilson (guitar) and Fernando Villalobos (drums), Sludgehammer’s initial lineup came together with the addition of Daniel Ayers (vocals/bass) and Christopher Szarota (vocals).  By the end of the year, they released a demo which gained considerable ground. 2014’s EP Organ Harvester introduced Dan Ayers as a co-vocalist, creating a unique sound that molded Sludgehammer into the heavy and groovy band it is today.

In 2016, the LP The Fallen Sun was released; fast and chunky it was well received by fans and the media. Unfortunately, after the release of that album, the band parted ways with Szarota and Josh Stephney was brought on board to complete the album cycle.

With the lineup finalized, Sludgehammer hit the road and laid waste to every stage they set foot on, showing their fans that they were now stronger than ever.  After a few successful tours in support of The Fallen Sun, it was time to start writing the next record which will be the first to feature Stephney on vocals. Sludgehammer is preparing to show their maturity by unleashing a second monstrous album “Antechamber” in 2019.

“Demonstrates all aspects of brutal music” – Heavy New York

“Enjoy almost 50 minutes of top-of-the-line melodic, furious and electrifying Groove Metal, courtesy of five Canadian metallers armed with their amazing sophomore album.” – Antichrist Mag

“Sludgehammer doesn’t fit neatly into the traditional death or groove metal box, as its diverse elements sets it apart from its peers… hooky riffs, catchy choruses and a perfect clean/growled vocal combination… Sludgehammer possesses loads of potential. Highly recommended!” – Bravewords

“This is how gifted SLUDGEHAMMER as a band is, even with only a demo, EP and now LP under their belts. On their own, they’re a devastating DIY metal band. With a contract in-hand, they’re gonna become unstoppable.” – Blabbermouth

““Demons From the Woodwork”. It’s a jolting, high-octane, full-throttled romp that incorporates elements of thrash, death metal, and head-slugging groove — and it’s an infectious beast that Sludgehammer have unchained.” – No Clean Singing

“Sludgehammer have a great way of infusing groove into their sound. Not nearly enough of that in death metal these days” – CJSF – Metal Meltdown

Toronto’s SLUDGEHAMMER are ready to pummel the masses with their forthcoming album “Antechamber” ready to destroy eardrums on April 12, 2019.

Heavy and groovy, SLUDGEHAMMER delivers the goods with astounding precision and the confidence of a world-class band. Their new music video for their second single “Climatic Death” is getting fans ready for the inevitable apocalypse.

“From its groove laden intro to its blasterrific chorus, this is a crushing track from start to finish. We find it skillfully combines heavy guitar riffs, killer vocals, and intense drumming while showcasing an ear for melody and song structure. While the lyrical content is rather dark (think apocalyptic global warming kind of dark), the song itself is a rocking good time, as you will see in the video. We really enjoyed writing this track and giving it a ripping performance to rock out to.”

Heavy and groovy, SLUDGEHAMMER delivers the goods with astounding precision and the confidence of a world-class band. The first single “No Control”, with its ferocious drumming that collides with equally aggressive riffs and vocals, is a solid introduction to the pummeling album that “Antechamber” promises to be.

“The whole process has been trial by fire. We bring what we have to the table and if it fits our signature blend then we roll with it. Over the years from our first release until now, our sound has matured quite well and it’s all thanks to the support and input from our fans and friends that have kept us going down the right path thus far. We can only hope to keep pleasing who we do with our albums while bringing in a new level of fan base due to our more well rounded and heavy-yet-easy listening style.”

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM is sharing their latest guitar playthrough for their track “The Esoteric Order”. The playthrough showcases the dual shredding of KOSM‘s guitarist Erik Leonoard and Mike Slater who play Kiesel and PRS guitars respectively, along with using a blend of Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifiers and Scuffham Digital Amps. The ambient sounds heard at the end of the track are created with a combination of the El Capistan dTape Delay pedal by Strymon and the Afterneath Reverb pedal by Earthquaker Devices.

Watch the shredding via GearGods.net at http://geargods.net/playthrough/kosm-esoteric-order-playthrough/

The track is third single off of KOSM‘s debut full length “Cosmonaut” released this past November and is influenced from the cosmic-horror of H.P. Lovecraft and classic science-fiction of others; the album and song tell the story of a cosmonaut’s transformative journey through time and space.

The band adds:

“Cosmonaut is a concept album loosely based on the weird-fiction of HP Lovecraft, and borrowing concepts from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny. The album follows a cosmonaut on a cosmic journey through time and space; from the earthly confines of mortal life, to ascendancy as an immaterial and omnipotent being. The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

“Cosmonaut” is available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play.

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut. The technical, progressive musicianship of Tool meets the crushing grooves and rhythmic vocals of Gojira, and Mastodon’s ear for riffy, thunderous prog are all present on Cosmonaut, which features some of the most technical metal I’ve heard this year outside of, you know, technical death metal. ” – Decibel Magazine

“The song (Ancient Heart) itself, which swings between some appetizingly heavy progressive riffs and aggressive growls and more melodic moments (with clean singing behind them). A tough band to place in that regard, but one certainly worth seeking out as they continue to expand their sound.” – DeadRhetoric
“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove.  They have all sorts of dual guitar sections, and very psychedelic and moody parts on “Cosmonaut” as well.  They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second. ” – Technical Music Review

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM‘s sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, part of making a name for themselves on their local scene in Vancouver and beyond, has been putting together cover videos of some of their favourite bands such as Mastodon, Queens of The Stone Age, System of A Down, Halestorm, Plini and many more. Now the quintet is paying their respects to one of their influences Gojira by covering their track “Ocean Planet”.

“We chose Gojira because they’ve been one of our prominent inspirations for the band! Our bassist actually kept heckling us to cover ‘Ocean Planet’ and eventually we caved and took the song on. It was intimidating to undertake a band as powerful as Gojira, but we hoped to have done it justice!” says guitarist Erik Leonhard.

Watch KOSM cover Gojira‘s “Ocean Planet” at the following link:

KOSM recently unleashed their debut “Cosmonaut”, an album loosely based on themes from stories by H.P. Lovecraft and others.
