NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 20, 2021

For fans of KEN mode, Unsane, Mastodon, Keelhaul

Cell Press New Music Video “Blacked Out In Verdun”

Video Premiere via IDIOTEQ

EP Out Now! Limited Edition Cassette from Ancient Temple Recordings and No Funeral Records

Lineup (L to R): Sean Arsenian (Guitar, Vox), Joey Cormier (Bass), Mark McGee (Drums), PQ (Vox)

A concoction of noise, sludge, grindcore, and extreme metal, along with anything and everything the band feels like creating, Montreal’s Cell Press (a convergence of talent from well-seasoned musicians (The Great Sabatini, Biipiigwan, I Hate Sally, Architect)) unleashed their self-titled debut EP this past November along with limited editions cassettes released by No Funeral Records and Ancient Temple Recordings.

“This EP sorta sums up what we’re about at this particular moment. Genre people might not be satisfied with our lack of adherence to any one sound for too long, but we didn’t make these songs for those sorts of people. This ep is designed as a broad introduction to the band, and new listeners will hopefully anticipate what else is coming down the pipe in the future. It upholds the high standards Cell Press sets for themselves and each song is quite different from the others.” says the band.

Today, Cell Press shares their latest music video “Blacked Out In Verdun”, a song that can be described as a sort of mish-mash of Helmet and Keelhaul.

Guitarist Sean Arsenian elaborates on how the video came to be:

“My co-worker Morgan Hunt walked into DFA Tattoos for Halloween wearing the llama mask you see in the video. I immediately recruited him to help me with the vague idea I had for it… and then we made him fall down a bunch of times. We paid for his wine, and that was the entire 20$ budget for the video. Morgan found the trash heap to lay down in at the end of the video and did so with zero prompting from us. He’d worked hard that day and deserved a rest.”

Watch the full video via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

Super loud and vigorous, Cell Press is recommended for fans of Jesus Lizard, Converge, and Botch.

Limited edition cassette order available from No Funeral Records and Ancient Temple Recordings.

About:

Cell Press are a Montreal-based band that formed in 2019. They play a sort of burly noise-rock that leans more on the hardcore and metal side of the swamp. They took their name from the 2001 Russian prison documentary “The Mark Of Cain”. The brutal humanity of that film is reflected in the music… on the surface, it’s raw and punishing but there are complexities

and nuances revealed once the surface noise has been embraced. Members have played in a myriad of punk, metal, and hardcore bands such as The Great Sabatini, Biipiigwan, I Hate Sally, The Chariot, Animal Ethics, Architect, Swarm Of Spheres, and Angles. Their self-titled EP is the first offering of tunes. Recorded pre-quarantine in Hamilton at Boxcar Sound Recording

(Sean Pearson), mixed in Oakland at Anti-sleep studios by Scott Evans with the pandemic in full swing… 2 local shows have been logged but any further plans to gig have been halted by Covid-19.

“From the grooves on “Piss Police” to the odd-timed melodic chords of “Blacked Out in Verdun,” everything moves in unexpected ways. All of this is perfectly set to the backdrop of PQ’s uniquely cackled screams… Cell Press is a great sludge metal EP that reminds the listener of the best aspects of this sub-genre. This EP makes the future appear bright for what is to come from this band. 8/10″ – Exclaim!

“You know that feeling, when you spin a new record for the first time and it just fucking destroys you? Well today I am happy to report, Cell Press outta Montreal have truly delivered the goods with their debut self titled EP.  I mean fuck, is it any wonder this band rules, when they can boast members from the likes of The Great Sabatini, Biipiigwan, I Hate Sally, Architect. With their self-titled release, Cell Press give zero fucks about accessibility, instead they focus on delivering punishing aggression with a melting pot of sludge metal, noise rock, and grindcore.” – The Sludgelord

“Warm fuzzy guitar tones bring a touch of the Sabbath to “Piss Police” with broken chords and momentary pauses giving the kind of sound that Raging Speedhorn look for to accompany the rampant venting screams of the vocals that unapologetically roar along during the montage.” – Metal Noise

“Cell Press’s debut self titled EP is definitely an interesting listen. I didn’t expect it to take me on the journey which it did. An aggressive sound runs throughout showing that this band don’t play by the rules, they’re making music the way they want to.” – The Independent Voice

“Noisy and enjoyable, I give this Cell Press effort high marks. I am a Punk fan from the beginning, and I hear those roots here, certainly in the attitude, even if the category is technically off. The disenfranchisement is very appealing. Recommended.” – Flying Fiddle Sticks

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – December 11, 2020

For fans of KEN mode, Unsane, Mastodon, Keelhaul

Cell Press Drummer Posts Video of Pelting Skins For “Dead At OACI” From Noisy, Sludgy Self-Titled EP

EP Out Now! Limited Edition Cassette from Ancient Temple Recordings and No Funeral Records

Lineup (L to R): Sean Arsenian (Guitar, Vox), Joey Cormier (Bass), Mark McGee (Drums), PQ (Vox)

Cell Press drummer Mark McGee has posted his next video of pelting skins with a playthrough for “Dead At OACI”. The first song Cell Press wrote together, the track comes off the Montreal band’s debut EP released on November 27th. The song itself is organized chaos smashing your throat with angry noise and aggressive sludge. Even though Cell Press has no one metal genre label to them, they are best described as a concoction of grindcore, noise, sludge, extreme metal, along with anything and everything the band feels like creating.

Watch McGee shatter the kit in this latest drum video via his YouTube.

Cell Press‘ eclectic self-titled EP may not be metal enough or noise-rock enough or sludge enough for some, but the band gets bored really fast and the result is serious channel surfing taking advantage of a wide variety of influences. With this record, they have gone all out to wrap their ideas up in a burlap sack, tied with razor wire. As the band says in their own words:

“This EP sorta sums up what we’re about at this particular moment. Genre people might not be satisfied with our lack of adherence to any one sound for too long, but we didn’t make these songs for those sorts of people. This ep is designed as a broad introduction to the band, and new listeners will hopefully anticipate what else is coming down the pipe in the future. It upholds the high standards Cell Press sets for themselves and each song is quite different from the others.”

Super loud and vigorous, Cell Press is a sort of hybridized amalgamation of influences, and most recommended for fans of Jesus Lizard, Converge, and Botch.

Cell Press Drummer Posts Playthrough “Piss Police” From Their Noisy, Sludgy Debut Self-Titled EP

EP Out Now! Limited Edition Cassette from Ancient Temple Recordings and No Funeral Records

Lineup (L to R): Sean Arsenian (Guitar, Vox), Joey Cormier (Bass), Mark McGee (Drums), PQ (Vox)

Cell Press drummer Mark McGee has posted a video of his battering hands with a playthrough for “Piss Police”, which is the opening track from the Montreal band’s debut EP released on November 27th.

“Piss Police” is bookended with one riff, which the band plays in different ways, as an intro and outro. The middle section was something their guitarist Sean Arsenian had demoed for a different project, but in the end, found it to be right at home with Cell Press. The bridge is a much noisier take on a Jesus Lizard type of riff.

Watch McGee gorge through the track in the following drum video via his YouTube.

Cell Press has no one metal genre label to them as they are a concoction of grindcore, noise, sludge, extreme metal, along with anything and everything the band feels like creating.

The eclectic ep may not be metal enough or noise-rock enough or sludge enough for some, but Cell Press gets bored really fast and the result is serious channel surfing taking advantage of a wide variety of influences. Montreal’s Cell Press Announce “Desert Breath” Off Upcoming Debut Self-Titled EP

Video Premiere via TheSludgeLord

Out Nov 27th, Limited Edition Cassette from Ancient Temple Recordings and No Funeral Records

Lineup (L to R): Sean Arsenian (Guitar, Vox), Joey Cormier (Bass), Mark McGee (Drums), PQ (Vox)

A convergence of talent from well-seasoned musicians (The Great Sabatini, Biipiigwan, I Hate Sally, Architect) makes Montreal’s Cell Press a band to keep an ear out for. A melting pot of genres and talents boils over with this fresh band that is just getting started. To entice listeners, they are releasing their debut self-titled EP this year and introduce it with the single “Desert Breath”.

The raw complexity will be slightly familiar to those who are already acquainted with the member’s other projects, but it is, overall, a different animal. Cell Press has a mandate of zero compromises, played with conviction and honesty.

With the self-titled, Cell Press has no intention of trying to find “The Formula”, which they find boring, instead, they explore ideas with punishing aggression and compile five pieces that each stand on their own and don’t sound like each other. The band explains the single in their own words:

“This is sort of an inverted “Immigrant Song” type of riff, on steroids. The refrain at the end is hijacked from a Woody Guthrie song. It was the second tune we started working on but the first one that came together and really solidified with everyone.”

Lyrically, the song is about loneliness, and not having a place or relationship that feels truly like home. For fans of Unsane, Jesus Lizard, and Converge, Cell Press is a mix of early metalcore, sludge metal, noise rock, and grindcore.

The music video for the single “Desert Breath” can be watched and heard via its premiere on TheSludgeLord HERE.

Calgary, Canada’s Illuminated Minerva released their emotional, turbulent full-length “Enigma Adamantine” on September 25th. The album is a showcase of the band’s amalgamation of heavy riffs, groovy bass, and psychedelic melodies, and in lieu of vocals, archived audio clips resulting in oratory artistic storytelling. The concept album is five long songs and is an instrumental progressive metal record based around conspiracy, UFOs, and abductions. An album experience as unique as the stories within. Fans of the band’s 2014 debut EP “The Immaculate Deception” will notice a divergence from the ambient and electronic focus towards heavier and more technical songwriting.

Today, as the album blazes through speakers of fans, the band is sharing their new music video for the track “Wilder (Mother Goddess)”. The song is an onslaught of technical brutality set to a narrative of biology, reptilian beings, and ritual. Slithering guitar, ancient rhythms, and ripping bass cut deep in the track.

Teaming up with NewFuryMedia, the music video can be viewed and heard via its premiere HERE.

“Enigma Adamantine” is available on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify and is for fans of Tool, Mastodon, and Sikth.

About:

Illuminated Minerva is a technical, progressive metal band, from Calgary, Canada. Brothers Nathan Bourgeault (guitar) and Jordon Bourgeault (drums) were both musicians growing up and eventually started their first project Sequoia, the beginning of their musical collaboration. Eventually, they moved on to form Illuminated Minerva, with a goal to push the musical boundaries further.

Rounding the lineup out is local scene veteran Matt Petti (bass) who played with drummer Jordon Bourgeault in Verbal Deception; and Pat Lawtey (guitar) who played with the international act Kobra and the Lotus.

The bond between brothers and former bandmates results in a very natural writing process for the progressive metal quartet. Knowing what works and what doesn’t comes easily and allows the band to intertwine astral riffs, and technical harmonies highlighted by the absence of vocals. Combined with archived audio clips the result is oratory artistic storytelling taking the listener through space and time, exploring conspiracies and unanswered questions.

With a captivating and visceral live show, the seasoned musicians of Illuminated Minerva have played with a host of bands locally including Tesseract, Intronaut, and Cloudkicker. In 2014, the band released their debut EP “The Immaculate Deception” and are following it up in 2020 with a full length “Enigma Adamantine” due out Sept 25th.

Calgary, Canada’s Illuminated Minerva is unleashing their emotional, turbulent full-length “Enigma Adamantine” on Friday, September 25, 2020. Ahead of the release, they are thrilled to entice the world with the album’s full stream premiere via TheCirclePit HERE.

The band blends together heavy riffs, groovy bass and psychedelic melodies, and in lieu of vocals, archived audio clips resulting in oratory artistic storytelling. The concept album is five long songs, each one uniquely contributing to the overall theme of the album. Fans of the band’s 2014 debut EP “The Immaculate Deception” will notice a divergence from the ambient and electronic focus towards heavier and more technical songwriting.

Illuminated Minerva shares their thoughts on the new offering:

“‘Enigma Adamantine’ is an instrumental progressive metal album based around conspiracy, UFOs, and abductions. A musical examination of modern mythology laid out with hard-hitting bass grooves, technical guitar lines, soaring leads, and complex drumming matched with audio from years past to present an auditory mirror reflecting our deepest fears and questions yet to be answered. An album experience as unique as the stories within. We hope all that explore it, will enjoy it.”

Being instrumental sets the band apart from most other bands as it makes it easier to appeal to a broader spectrum of people and those with an interest in Tool, Mastodon and Sikth will find Illuminated Minerva especially enjoyable.

Album pre-order / pre-save on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify.

Music Video “Sightings” HERE.

Track Listing:
1. Heart Beat of Creation (9:48)
2. Sightings (5:08)
3. Abductions (7:05)
4. Wilder (Mother Goddess) (8:37)
5. Illuminatus Majoris (13:03)
Album Length: 43:44

Calgary, Canada’s Illuminated Minerva is putting out their emotional, turbulent full-length album “Enigma Adamantine” on September 25, 2020. Ahead of the release, they are thrilled to entice the world with their second single “Abductions”.

The band blends together heavy riffs, groovy bass, and psychedelic melodies, and in lieu of vocals, archived audio clips resulting in oratory artistic storytelling. The concept album is five long songs, each one uniquely contributing to the overall theme of the album. Fans of the first album will notice a divergence from the ambient and electronic focus towards heavier and more technical songwriting.

Always in a state of growth, Illuminated Minerva shares the story behind “Abductions”:

“Two bros, one alien abduction. A musical retelling of Charles Hickson’s account of his abduction on the Pascagoula River. Progressive movements mixed technical riffs recount the mind-blowing tale of these two friends.”

Being instrumental sets the band apart from most other bands as it makes it easier to appeal to a broader spectrum of people and those with an interest in Tool, Mastodon and Sikth will find Illuminated Minerva especially enjoyable.

“Abductions” is available via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

The full album will be released on September 25, 2020.

Album pre-order on Bandcamp, Apple Music.

Canada’s Illuminated Minerva have a spacey full-length album “Enigma Adamantine” dropping on September 25, 2020, and a music video for the first single “Sightings”.

The band released an EP “The Immaculate Deception” in 2014 and this new album, while touching on similar concepts, embraces longer songs, a more technical edge, and a higher production value. With a little bit of everything genre-wise, except vocals, Illuminated Minerva takes the listener on a ride through space and conspiracies theories guided by archived audio clips. Illuminate Minerva shares their take on the album:

“’Enigma Adamantine’ is an instrumental progressive metal album based around conspiracy, UFOs, and abductions. A musical examination of modern mythology laid out with hard-hitting bass grooves, technical guitar lines, soaring leads, and complex drumming matched with audio from years past present an auditory mirror reflecting our deepest fears and questions yet to be answered. An album experience as unique as the stories within.”

The album, as a concept album, is written to be listened to as a whole in chronological order where the themes can flow from one song to another. Each track does carry its own weight, the first single “Sightings” being no exception. The second track on the album is the song for those who ‘want to believe’! Odd time signatures, throbbing bass, and first-hand accounts of unknown aircraft frame the question of ‘are we alone?’.

The progressive and melodic instrumental quartet suits a wide variety of people, especially fans of Tool, Scale the Summit, and Intronaut.

The music video for “Sightings” is available via its premiere on SonicPerspectives HERE.

The full album will be released on September 25, 2020.

Album pre-order on Bandcamp.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 11, 2020

Seattle Progressive Melodic Death Metal DRAEMORA Share Guitar Playthrough “Guilt” via GearGods

Debut EP “Awakening” Out June 26th via Ultra Nast Records

Relatively new to the Seattle metal scene, Draemora is comprised of seasoned musicians who, despite COVID-19 slowing their debut, are ready to show the nation and the world their EP “Awakening” on June 26, 2020, via Ultra Nast Records.

The EP, lyrically, is about battling with drugs and alcohol, and the long journey out of that hell. Heavy, prodigious and heartfelt, vocalist/guitarist Terry Jenkins notes his personal attachments to the lyrics he writes:

“The lyrics come right out of the pages of my life, the things I went through, and how I got through them. Music is a huge outlet for me to dump the good times, bad times, and everything else in between. The majority of the lyrics are a culmination of direct excerpts from letters, poems, and life experiences from the period between May 2018 and August 2019. It was a very intense time in my life.”

Today, the band is excited to share the guitar playthrough for their latest single ‘Guilt’. The track starts off with vocals and a guitar, but quickly changes gears and enters areas that can be compared to “Alien”-era Strapping Young Lad moments. It’s very powerful and intense.

Guitarist Terry Jenkins adds:

“If you love Mesa/Boogie Rectifiers, Telecasters, and Melodic Death Metal with huge epic riffs you are going to really enjoy this playthrough! I enjoy playing this song very much and it’s my pleasure to share it on Gear Gods! What an honor! If you have additional comments feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them!! Word!”

About:

Draemora was formed in November 2019 in the Seattle, USA area by Terry Jenkins (vocals/guitar) after his separation from his previous band Odyssian. Seeing it as an opportunity to take a chance and try something different, he wrote a handful of songs with lyrics and demoed them out at his house. These demos attracted the attention of soon to be bandmate, ex-Jesus Wears Armani drummer Jared Conelie and ex-Odyssian vocalist Taylor Wood.

After fleshing out the demos with their own personal touches on the songs, Jenkins found local guitar player Max Taylor and set out to record the 5 song EP “Awakening”.

The EP is nothing short of heavy, melodic metal infused with honest and heartfelt lyrics; This combination works perfectly with the band’s mission to evoke an intense emotional and spiritual experience that brings out the raw emotions that are suppressed all day in normal day to day lives.

“This EP lyrically is all about battles with drugs and alcohol and the long journey out of that hell.  I feel that it will connect with anyone who has ever had mental problems, family problems, or experienced relationships falling apart. I didn’t want to come across as disingenuous, or contrived and wrote about things that I really went through and put my life and my problems out there for anyone to interact with as they wish. I think this recording is intense and beautiful.  It’s angry and sad and uplifting and I think is a reflection of a human living in modern-day society.” says Jenkins.

With a slight pause in the band’s plans due to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Draemora is already working away on a full-length album to follow and getting ready for when they can pummel crowds live with their heavy melodic brand of progressive death metal.

Their debut EP “Awakening” is due out June 26, 2020 via Ultra Nast Records and will be available on all major digital platforms.
