What the press is saying:

“Located an hour and a half east of Calgary is the town of Drumheller, Alberta. With a population in the neighborhood of 8000 and existing smack dab in the middle of Canada’s desert and dinosaur country, it’s not a place one would immediately associate with any sort of metal scene, let alone a big-ass outdoor metal fest. But that’s where you’d be wrong. Going into its 11th year, the Loud as Hell Festival is set to roll on August 4-6th with the likes of Narcotic Wasteland, Jungle Rot and Incite headlining three days of metallic fun featuring 40 or so bands, including The Convalesence, Gorgatron, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise, Eyes of Perdition and more.” – Decibel Magazine

“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“What’s more metal than the badlands? Drumheller, AB, is known for being the dinosaur capital of the world — but it’s also the home of the Loud as Hell festival, an event celebrating none other than the loudest music known to man (and, by proxy, prehistoric reptile).” – Exclaim!

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

“Nevermind the bug spray and sun tan lotion, as August approaches Drumheller residents should stock up on earplugs.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud As Hell returns to the southern Alberta city for its seventh year and as its name implies, will rock the city to its core.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald

“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

Get Your Popcorn Ready For ROCKIN’ ENGINE’s Horror Themed Offering “Altered By Evil”

New EP “Altered By Evil” Out July 7th

A punch in the face is coming right at ya’ in the form of Rockin’ Engine’s “Altered By Evil”. This will be their third studio offering and fans will notice huge musical growth, it is more technical, and more refined, but punchy and heavy as Hell! After the release of 2020’s “The Wretched And The Damned” the band knew exactly what direction they wanted to go in and buckle up, because they are taking listeners on a rock n’ roll road trip. “Altered By Evil” is creepy and dark, and full of horror, and also creative, fun and theatrical, and the band is sure fans will eat it up, they continue to share their thoughts:

““Altered By Evil” is a tribute to everything we love about horror movies and serial killer documentaries. There’s a fascination behind the love of the macabre and the grotesque that we wanted to explore with our lyrics and expose different nuances of some classic works of art. With this record, we’re bringing the audience into a fantasy world of monsters and evil spirits, with a dash of historical elements that makes the listening experience even more interesting.”

The band members cite the great relationship they have with each other as being key to producing this deadly album despite having several obstacles to overcome during its creation. This EP is a true reflection of their evolution, not only as musicians but also spiritually. They add that bringing their love for horror to life and living their cinematic fantasies is the greatest gift they could have.

Like a tsunami making its way to the shore, Rockin’ Engine is gaining momentum with each new release. They started soft a few years back, but are getting heavier and stronger as they evolve together. Their music gets heavier and darker each day and this EP’s producer Joe Lyko at Dark Moon Productions captures their essence expertly.

Put your pedal to the floor and run the motor high with “Altered By Evil”, which is highly recommended for fans of Megadeth, Slayer, and Lamb Of God.

“There’s a scathing, contemporary thrash quality throughout the song “Libre Ex-Mortis” that brings to mind Lamb Of God musically while juxtaposed against melodic vocals that are almost pop-like in the vein of Night Demon. This contrast is interesting and most notable on “Monsters Under Your Bed” because of the interplay between the beaming vocals and the slick, pseudo-death metal barrage. Considering the accessible sounds, it’s obvious that the Canucks seek commercial success should that path become available to them. However the cookie may crumble in time, “Altered By Evil” is an enjoyable release for those who don’t mind aspects of the popular side of modern metal.” – Metal Underground

“The fusion of hard rock, thrash, and modern groove metal gives Rockin’ Engine potential to appeal to numerous audiences based on the material present with Altered by Evil. Standing on the precipice of glory, this quartet could be valuable to most label rosters based on the talent and quality songwriting delivered here. 8/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“The Shining inspired “Room 185” finds the band joined by Steph Jomphe of Insurrection fame for a cut that brings the blood stained curtain down in style. The riffs hit like tidal waves, the percussion from Joel Bilodeau absolutely huge and the mix from Dark Moon Productions absolutely nailed to perfection [8.5/10]” – Metal Noise

“Unlike others who choose to combine their love of horror and metal, what makes Rockin’ Engine stand out is they’re not winking at us here. These are tracks inspired by horror, both fiction and non-fiction, and moulded around Rockin’ Engine’s thrash sound. They’ve not adapted their music to fit the horror, it’s the other way around. 8/10” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Heavy, powerful and charismatic, “Altered By Evil” is by far their best work. Look forward to the hell Rockin’ Engine will ignite wherever they perform. If Gojira, Lamb Of God and Rob Zombie had a child, Rockin’ Engine would be their bastard son. Their fusion of hard rock and thrash metal will set any stage ablaze and leave everyone with bad whiplash.” – Amplified Mag

“This is obviously a band that knows how to play to their strengths. As the subject matter changes for each song, The Exorcist, The Evil Dead, The Shining, etc.. so does the music. Not drastically, you can still tell it’s the same band, but it keeps everything nice and fresh through the release. Six tracks over a 30-minute period is about right… other bands take note… Quality over quantity wins it for me every time. This is as good as anything I hear from mid-sized labels over here in Europe. The fact that this is a self-release tells you how fucked our industry is as this really deserves a bigger and more widespread audience that’ll probably get. Puck this up on July 7th.” – Smorg Mag

“Although the band is often labeled a Heavy Metal band on the album’s opening notes, we clearly feel more violent influences than heavy, we could almost put them on the border of Thrash. So the band proposes an album having an identity that is its own while trying to renew the style, the prod while being modern does not fall into the cliché of the over-auction and the crossing of different styles gives an excellent result so you can be tight be surprised to hear a riff or beat that could very well have been in the middle of a death album to which the band add a brilliant voice for a very convincing result. We’ll wait to see the sequel to know if the group will want to lead, even if we don’t really know where the group wants to go, it’s a refreshing approach to them.” – Metal In Veins

Mexico’s LOST NEBULA Announces Canadian Tour To Support New EP “Created In The Image Of God”

New EP Out July 15th

Mexico’s proggy alt-rock outfit Lost Nebula is setting out on a Canadian tour this summer in support of their latest album “Created In The Image Of God”. This will be the fourth release from the band and it shows a distinct maturity without losing the desire to try new things – on the record, they introduce the use of synths and growls and bolsters songwriting.

Lost Nebula presents an approachable take to metal, infusing their sound with melodic choruses, hardcore breakdowns, both growling and clean vocals, and elements of pop, alternative metal, and prog. They cover familiar topics such as discrimination, dehumanization, and the growing dependency on technology. The band explains the upcoming album in their own words:

“All the music created by Lost Nebula is a reference to human emotions and feelings. In this case, it covers the human experiences of discrimination, which could be from a different way of thinking or a different way of looking at another person, basing it on transhuman people, in colloquial terms, people with prosthetic parts attached to them to enlarge and/or improve life. It goes from melodic prog metal to power ballad, making the distinctive sound of the band. Strident guitars and bass, tight and complex rhythm parts along with a warm female voice and something that has never been done before in the band, growl vocals added to one of the singles.”

Looking to take the complexity of progressive rock music and repackage it into a more commercial version, Lost Nebula went into this new album with an open mind, and tore down their boundaries. It is the most original, pure form of the band and they will surely impress old fans and captivate new ones.

The tour starts on Tuesday, July 19 in Montreal, QC and they will make their way across the country to Nanaimo, BC. Lost Nebula brings a unique show to every gig, and regardless of venue size, creates an immersive, memorable, epic experience.

Melodic, unpredictable, and creative, “Created In The Image Of God” is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Haken, and Leprous.

“Created In The Image Of God” is available as of July 15th.

Unleashing their debut EP “Graceless” this past April, Calgary’s WIDOW’S PEAK announce they will be assaulting some of Western Canada’s most intense metal festivals during the coming summer months where they will share the stage with likes of Ninjaspy, The Order of Chaos, Archspire, Fit For An Autopsy and Battlecross. The brutal technical death metal tyrants will first be annihilating their hometown fans in Calgary, AB at Decimate MetalFest on June 7th followed by the decibel breaking Loud As Hell hosted in Drumheller, AB on August 4th to then venture off to Northern British Columbia to perform at Metallion in Vanderhoof on August 10th.

The band comments:

“We’re excited to get out and spew filth across the west this summer at Metallion, Loud As Hell and Decimate! This is not only the inaugural year of Calgary’s own Decimate Metalfest, but it’s also our first time venturing to Drumheller and outside of Alberta. Looking forward to making lots of new friends so come get stinky with us and throw some sweaty hugs around!”

Festival Dates:
June 7 – Calgary, AB – Decimate MetalFest – Distrotion – info – w/ Citizen Rage, Ninjaspy, The Order of Chaos, FILTH, Insurrection and more!
Aug 4 – Drumheller, AB – Loud As Hell – Dinosaur Downs Stampede Grounds – info – w/ Fit For An Autopsy, Archspire, Into Eternity Ninjaspy and more!
Aug 10 – Vanderhoof, BC – Metallion – Brookside Resort – info w/ Battlecross, Aggression, Gladius Sky and more!

A full stream of WIDOW’S PEAK‘s debut EP “Graceless” can be heard at the following links:

Youtube: https://youtu.be/RbG60mVCutk
Bandcamp: https://wpdm.bandcamp.com/album/graceless-ep
Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/y8erqngh

The band adds:

“Graceless” is a jagged and angular approach to technical death metal that fuses tales of perverse violence with the sounds of chaos. We set out to create something that’s brutal and overwhelming, but never loses sight of the underlying groove. We feel that this EP is exactly that: 20 minutes of bang-your-head, balls-to-the-wall madness that any fan of extreme metal will appreciate.”

While many metal bands find inspiration from supernatural sources, myths, and legends, WIDOW’S PEAK find influence from true life horror, from the depths of cruelty, terror and pain that man(un)kind so readily descends to. WIDOW’S PEAK is an aural catalogue of carnage, a metallic mausoleum of pain, a sonic symphony of suffering. Their music does not reach for the stars, but rather for the cold void that surrounds them, the darkness that lives in the soul of man. Make no mistake; WIDOW’S PEAK’s ferocity is the music of the spears, metal dripping with blood, bile and venom!

1. Debt Collector (3:47)
2. CBT (3:47)
3. Overseer (2:02)
4. Headless (2:58)

“Canadian technical death metal outfit Widow’s Peak might be more man than machine, judging by Graceless, their new EP. Starting from the second you hit play, Widow’s Peak attack with blistering fretwork, relentless drumming and a diverse vocal performance.” – Decibel Magazine

“an inventive display of breathtaking destructiveness married to kaleidoscopic, head-spinning instrumental performances, and further reveals an unconventional taste in melody that makes the song even more fascinating….but there’s still more to be said about the song. In broad strokes, it’s complete balls-to-the-wall mayhem, mostly rushing ahead in the red zone, from the barrage of percussive tumult to the mutilating riffs and the deranged, insectile leads. And to add to the feeling of lunatic savagery, the bullet-spitting vocals veer from monster roars to banshee shrieks.” – No Clean Singing (Track Review – Mother’s Misery)

“Brewing in the darkest depths and the most pungent of bowels of Calgary, Alberta, Widow’s Peak comes spewing forth with their debut EP titled Graceless. This is a demented, dark and incredibly vile release filled with six full tracks that are sure to rip your scalp right off your skull. ” – Cadaver Garden

“Friends of technical death metal will rejoice over the technically precise and relentlessly brutal wave of destruction resounding on the soon to be released debut EP from Widow’s Peak. The Canadians from Calgary, Alberta are still pretty much an underground tip but “Graceless” is a promising move to get this band more well-deserved attention.” – Overdrive Music Mag

“The songs are savage and ferocious affairs, featuring head-spinning technicality that’s offset by brutal riffs and belligerent rhythms. With plenty of blast and groove, as well as sickening guttural growls, Graceless is sure to keep fans of extremity happy.” – Wonderbox Metal

“Groovy killer rhythms, twisted paces and just catching rhythms, enough sick to be supported by all the fans into technical death metal! ” – Sick and Destroy

“Lyrically vile and discomforting, they focus on the strangely perverse and dark aspects of the human condition and real life events” – Ursound

About:

In 2007, Edmonton, AB underwent one of the most notable natural disasters in history. An earthquake split the city in two, and chaos ran amok through the streets.

Alas…such things are bound to happen when DISPLAY OF DECAY takes the stage. Handcrafted by Hell’s most elite demons, DISPLAY OF DECAY is noted for bringing a unique blend of old school death metal, blended with tinges of thrash and doom metal. The band has spread their infection across Western Canada over the years, sharing the stage alongside other local elite acts such as, Disciples of Power and Into Eternity.

After unleashing three well received indie releases, DISPLAY OF DECAY is currently gearing up for their next follow up “Outbreak of Infection”, an EP featuring five brutal tracks that includes an annihilating rendition of KISS’ ‘Black Diamond’.  Set to riot mosh pits officially August 26, 2014, DISPLAY OF DECAY is eagerly preparing to tour Western Canada in 2014 to promote their best work to date.

“The EP contains 5-tracks of, “…grim and gore,” perfect for fans of Deicide and Cannibal Corpse” – Bloody-Disgusting

““Outbreak of Infection” is a Deicide-al rampage of fast, rapacious riffing and spitfire soloing, with gut-punching drums and a gruesomely guttural vocal performance. These dudes do a good jump injecting the music with snake venom and radiating an aura of ravenous evil. They bring the death metal brutality, spiced up with insidious melody and high-voltage fretwork.” – No Clean Singing

“Display of Decay is a Death Metal outfit with old-school sensibilities. They’re melodic without entering Melodic Death, and they’re brutal without becoming cliche. This is just some shit you have to hear for yourself.” – Yell Magazine

“Outbreak of Infection, a mid-paced slab of brutality in the vein of Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, and Nile. Showing they wear their influences on their sleeves, this trio also sounds nothing like the aforementioned bands at times, their own sound gleaming vile from the pile of corpses they wear.” – Crown of Viserys

“Canada’s power trio, aptly known as Display of Decay play old school death metal with growl vocals and catchy hooks that’ll make you bang your head.” Explicitly Intense

“This is a real listenable EP due to is crunchy drive and catchy rhythms. It is Brutal Death Metal but it has the kind of songs you could put in a zombie film for added tension and brutality…The guttural vocals are strong low and perfect for these tracks.  This is an EP you can throw in and listen to all five songs, the last of which is a Kiss cover Black Diamond.” – Blackened Horde

THRONE OF VENGEANCE Post Live Video From Calgary Metal Fest + Performing Alberta Festival Dates (Aug 29, 30, 31)

Earlier this summer, Throne of Vengeance had the honour of performing at this year’s Calgary Metal fest kickoff party where they recorded live video playing their track ‘Hands Tied’ to share with fans.

“‘We wanted to do a live show music video to give people a taste of TOV on stage and thought what better time to do it than during Calgary Metalfest?! The crazies come out in force and mosh pits rage for the better part of a week! If you ever had doubts about the local metal scene, this was a Wednesday. I also like to mention, we chose ‘Hands Tied’ as it’s a song close to our hearts that is loosely based on a close friends imprisonment for a victimless crime. It talks of the corrupt ways our judicial system torments and beats souls senseless.” comments drummer Trevor Cobb.

This week, Throne of Vengeance will be performing Alberta Festival dates at The Lethbridge Dethfest on August 29th, Beaverfest on August 30th and Alberta’s Own on August 31st. During their fest dates, TOV will be sharing the stage with fellow Canuck metal bands Golers, Death Toll Rising, Kryosphere, Comeback Kid, Protest The Hero, Nightseeker, Striker, The Wild! and Titans Eve.

About: Bridging the gap between metal and rock with help from dual guitar harmonies, pounding drum lines and wide-ranging vocal harmonies, Calgary’sThrone of Vengeance released their EP ‘Live Evil’ on October 19, 2013 that echoes the band’s signature thrash-tinged rock.

“‘Live Evil’ is “a collection of songs based on our experiences in the last two years, covering everything from a close friend’s imprisonment for a victim-less crime to the realization of humanity’s demise to the contrast between good and evil and life and death,” says drummer Trevor Cobb.

“If there’s anything we would like people to take away from the record, it’s that you should be your own person, do what makes you happy, be aware of your world and be real. We have the power to control our own destiny. Together, we are more powerful than any world leader.”

Having shared the stage with numerous legends over the years, including Kill Devil Hill, 3 Inches Of Blood and Steven Pearcy of RATT, Throne of Vengeance is ready to take things to a whole new level with Live Evil. Are you ready for a major ‘bangover’?

“Calgary metal band Throne of Vengeance rule the local rock scene with heart and soul…Recorded with Emmy-winning producer Paul Sabu, who recorded the band’s 2011 debut Flesh Engine and has worked with such names as David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Shania Twain and Prince, it captures Throne of Vengeance’s sound in a huge, warm and oh-so slick way. It’s all pro from the get-go.” – Calgary Herald

“the record follows their 2009 EP Toxic Black Cloud and 2011’s Flesh Engine and delivers the thrash-tinged classic metal for which the quartet is renowned.”  – Beatroute

“One of the keys to Throne Of Vengeance’s energy and drive lies in their passion…masters of their own domain…Their work is solid and I recommend you check them out” – Beatroute Magazine

“Calgary has an amazing music scene, and in my opinion, if you want to listen to great metal music in this city, this is the band that you need to see.” – X92.9 FM

“The band have hit the sweet spot of heaviness and melody that is hard to find. They have had a considerable amount of local success and LIVE EVIL will help them continue to build on that…this piece is rock solid release with excellent production and a good mix and balance of the instruments. The band tapped Paul Sabu (Only Child, ex-Malice) and countless production credits of big name artists like Alice Cooper. The songs range from mid-tempo to quite a bit faster, songs like ‘Hands Tied’ almost creeping almost in that power metal speed zone. The quartet use some gang-vocals a bit to back up vocalist Tommy. The band also will throw in a hint of acoustic guitar once in a while as well adding to the rock end of the spectrum.” – Metal-Rules

“…they joyously pay homage to their influences while creating their own distinctive sound…there are no lowlights and no filler tracks – each song is a mighty entity unto itself and worthy of your ears.” – Extreme Metal Television

“Whether you are a die-hard metal fan, or prefer rock n’ roll, Throne of Vengeance is the perfect blend of both… a great album to put on if you’re going to get together with friends, have a barbecue and drink beer. It feels like a summer album, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in feel-good thrash rock.” – Vancouver Metal

“The band is perfect for fans of classic metal such as Dio, Iron Maiden and Megadeth.” – Canadian Music News

““Live Evil” features seven hard rock songs including my two favourites, “Live Evil” and “Terminal Velocity”. One thing that I really enjoy about this album is that guitar reminds me of classic metal. You can feel the passion and drive in the songs.” – Canadian Beats

“Their shows are energetic, well-attended and the crowd absolutely loves them…I’ll babysit those maniacs anytime!..One of the few metal bands out there who are 100% convincing in that they genuinely LOVE what they do, and it shows.” – Philly Roach, Owner/Operator – The Distillery Rock & Roll Ballroom, Calgary

“Armstrong Metalfest is quickly getting the reputation as one of the best fests in all of Western Canada, and for our second year playing we thought it would be a great idea to have our set shot and edited for an online release.  Everybody who was there knows just how rad the whole weekend was, and we had one of the best times playing and hanging out with many of the top bands from the region!  This video is just a little taste of what the playing environment is like, and Armstrong Metalfest is growing each year, and will only get bigger and better from here.  We look forward to rounding out our summer with a last string of devastating festivals in the end of August!” comments guitarist Drew Copland.

About: Featuring a combination of death and thrash metal,  the Edmonton-based band are known to devastate their audiences with their high octane performances that has lead them to share the stage over the years with high profile names such as Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, The Haunted, and Aborted (to name a few).

Originally formed in 2003 in Stony Plain, AB, Canada, the award nominated (Metal Recording of The Year – Edmonton Music Awards 2014) Death Toll Rising have been grinding the Western Canadian metal scene steadily, gaining huge momentum over the last 3 years. New addition Tylor Dory on guitars has introduced a technical and progressive element to the band they have not had in the past. Add in the intense and relentless drumming provided by Bryan Newbury (recently recruited by Canadian prog/death powerhouse INTO ETERNITY), as well as the well-rounded rhythm provided by Drew Copland on guitar and Mike Puff on bass, and you get a monster that is only now being unleashed upon the masses with vocalist Jesse Berube topping things off with a combination of brutal death growls and Tomas Lindberg-esqe high shrieks, which will be plenty noticeable on their new album ‘Infection Legacy’.
