Gothic rockers VAN HALST have issued a studio update on recording the follow up release to their debut album ‘World of Make Believe’ with famed Canadian producer Arnold Lanni, best known for his work with Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven and Simple Plan.

Van Halst commented:
“We are very excited and humbled to be partnering with Arnold Lanni on this new record. Arnold has written some amazing songs and we can’t wait to hit the studio with the new tunes we’ve written with him.”

Lanni added:

“I’m excited to be working with Van Halst. I think their future is really bright! Not only is the band writing some great songs and ‘hooky’ memorable riffs, but Kami’s voice is one of the most unique emotional and evocative voices I’ve heard in a very long time. The juxtaposition of the band’s melodic sensibilities and Kami’s quirky singing style will make this project standout from all the other bands.”
VAN HALST released their debut album ‘World of Make Believe’ on March 4th, 2016 to great acclaim from the Canadian music scene, debuting #8 on theEarshot! Canadian college radio loud charts along with Canadian press commenting the following:

“Goth rock quintet Van Halst takes on feminism, body image and more with impressive debut.” – Beatroute (AB)

“Van Halst incites hope with World of Make Believe.” – Vue Weekly

“Van Halst’s World of Make Believe wants to educate” – Edmonton Journal

“A fine and courageous album from a band I have no doubt we will hear much more from.” – Hellbound

“If Evanescence and In This Moment dominate your stereo, we’d like to present your new favorite band.  – Idobi Radio

VAN HALST was a project that first began as a solo endeavour for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, but has since become a full group producing socially conscious lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations. The band’s influences stay true to goth rock with Kami Van Halst demonstrating an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummeling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgmental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.
Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Tara McLeod (Kittie) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The band’s live performance is a theatrical experience as they utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

VAN HALST Ask The ‘Questions’ With New Music Video Premiere On Femme Metal

Canadian gothic rockers VAN HALST are asking the ‘Questions’ with their new music video premiered on Femme Metal. The video emphasizes to viewers a strong message to take action against domestic violence and rape culture among many other issues that vocalist Kami Van Halst writes in her socially conscious lyrics.
Kami Van Halst comments:

““Questions is a very important song for us. There is so much victim blaming in our society and we wanted to draw attention to this issue. My sister (Brittney Grabill) and I wrote this song in response to a series of sexual assaults that were happening in our home town. We were appalled by the lack of focus on the perpetrator and the questions being asked of the victims such as “Well what were they doing there in the first place?” We need to stop putting the blame on the victims and shift our focus to preventing these altercations in the first place. People need to understand that violence and abuse towards another person, any person, is not ok.”

Please be advised this video shows scenes of violence towards women. This is intended to raise awareness about victim blaming.

10. Perfect Storm (4:44)
Album Length:  42:14

Edmonton, AB’s VAN HALST is a fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal.  A project, which began as a solo artist for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations.

Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

Their debut album ‘World of Make Believe’ is now available as of March 4th and can be picked up on iTunes and Bandcamp plus streaming at the following links below.

Vocalist Kami Van Halst comments about the album:
“We are so excited to be releasing this album. It’s been in the works for years and to finally have it out is an amazing feeling. Thank-you for all the support and we’ll see you on the road!”

Vocalist Kami Van Halst comments about the track:
“I wrote Questions with my sister Brittney Grabill. This song deals with victim blaming and how the victims of sexual assault are often criticized and blamed for putting themselves in the vulnerable position, which allowed them to be abused or exploited. This is wrong, we should not be blaming or scrutinizing the victims of abuse. We need to remove the stigma and put the blame where it rightly belongs- on the abuser.”

Vocalist Kami Van Halst comments about the video:
“Being that this is our first music video released, we wanted to steer clear of a storyline and simply present the band to the world. This video is intended to capture our stage performance and highlight the song. We shot the video in a building that used to be a chapel- we thought it was fitting considering the content of Save Me.”
