Canada’s MARBLE GHOSTS Unleash “Distance Between” A Blistering Anthem For Divided Times

Sophomore EP “The Greatest Divide” Out May 2025

Marble Ghosts, the Canadian boundary-pushing ensemble known for their distinctive blend of metal, grunge, and punk influences, has announced their highly anticipated second EP “The Greatest Divide” set for release in May 2025. The band comments on the first, explosive single “Distance Between”:

“From the opening lyric of the EP, “Here we are in the greatest divide”, the songs explore the ever-growing rift between almost every part of modern-day society. From the rich and the shrinking middle class to widening gaps in political and religious ideologies, the EP was inspired by our reality.”

Musically, the single shows off its punk-metal roots, never relenting from beginning to end. The biting rapid-fire verses meet the band’s characteristic soaring choruses. The band shows off its guitar chops with a blistering solo that perfectly matches the song’s energy. The song crescendos with another feverish solo over top desperate screams.

The EP and the single are recommended for fans of Alter Bridge, Shinedown, and Saint Asonia.

“Their sound is a unique blend of soft underscoring elements and heavy riffs.” – Decibel Magazine

“When a band is said to be for fans of Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace, this puts a lot of pressure on that band to live up to expectations, especially those of lifelong fan of all of those acts. However, Canadian’s Marble Ghosts have produced quite an exciting debut EP that’s made up of a mix of metal genres from metalcore and grunge to death metal. ‘Lie To Me’ has a heavy bass line intro before thick guitar riffs join in. This intensity is matched by the vocals, which seem to be drenched in emotion and this is what makes it a real must listen on the EP. Whilst the lyrics themselves don’t vary much, they don’t need to, because it feels like this track is about putting across a certain atmosphere rather than writing an epic tale. The band do delve into the political in ‘False Heroes’, where they question outdated thinking with such lines as “boys will be boys, all the while accompanied by an unsettling melody in a minor key. They use their own country’s history to influence this song, which the EP artwork and the band’s name are all linking together. 8/10” Powerplay Magazine UK

“End Of The World completes the EP and no lie instantly had us drooling with its air of nagging menace veined by swarthy guitar lures and a tension of creative distraction, an imposing coaxing soon evolving into a full incitement of animated temptation and keen adventure. Grabbing favourite track honours in its greedy fists, the song prowled like a predator and roared with punk dissidence, aligning both to melodic and sonic drama.” – Ring Master Reviews

“Now we have reached our last mention, my number one recommendation for this week’s list of incredible new music from this website of ours. They have recently just emerged on the metal scene with a distinctive sound. I am talking about the Ottawa-based band Marble Ghosts. Unveiling their self-titled EP, showcasing five compelling songs that you can hear across all streaming platforms now.” – ZACH’S PICKS OF THE WEEK – MARCH 4 TO MARCH 9, 2024 – #1 Marble Ghosts – Canadian Beats

“Marble Ghosts deliver a visceral finale with “End of the World.” Reflecting a generation’s disillusionment with the idea of meaningful change and the realisation that their actions may have little impact, the song captures the band’s uncompromising attitude with distinct vocals and a cacophony of heavy and glorious sound. Marble Ghosts, the band and EP, defies hard rock stereotypes and delivers music that reminds us that it’s not all sex drugs and rock-n-roll, but sometimes it’s get up, stand up, rise up, and make the difference you seek.” – Amplify The Noise

“This band is ultra-impressive with razor sharp hard rock, soaring vocals and superior song writing that really makes one stop and take notice of their greatness.” – WJOE- Findlay’s Home for Rock and Roll

“C’est propre et même chiadé, peut être un peu trop à mon goût : il ne faut pas chercher ici un hard rock écrit au feeling la clope au bec et la bière, désaltérant plus qu’il ne faut ses auteurs ! On est sur une musique qui tient plus de groupes comme Breaking Benjamin ou encore Three Days Grace qu’autre chose.” – SoilChronicles

“Fans of 2000’s era hard rock, especially those who were listening to that music during the time period itself, will get the most out of Marble Ghosts’ self-titled debut EP. It’s not impossible to imagine a scenario where Breaking Benjamin, hot off the release of We Are Not Alone, would take this group out as an opening act. Same goes for someone like Alter Bridge when One Day Remains exploded off the success of single “Open Your Eyes.” – Heavy Music HQ

0 Canada’s UTILITY PROVIDER Shares Lyric Video For Title Track Off Groovy Prog Album “Challenger” Out End of Nov 2024

Montreal, QC – November 15, 2024

Canada’s UTILITY PROVIDER Shares Lyric Video For Title Track Off Groovy Prog Album “Challenger” Out End of Nov 2024

L-R – Vadim Cartovenco – Drums, Chris Thomas – Guitar/Backing Vocals, Tyler Mayfield – Lead Vocals, Shayne Gold – Bass/Backing Vocals

Vancouver, Canada’s UTILITY PROVIDER is set to release their third full-length “Challenger” at the end of November 2024 produced with Nick Bergeron at Starport Studios (Langley, B.C.) with mixing and mastering by the renowned Michael Kraushaar at Little Red Studios (Vancouver B.C).

With a fresh new lineup, the band is excited to unveil this latest offering to newcomers of their sound along with their current fan following.

“I truly believe this album is going to blow our fans away. The writing is much stronger than in the previous releases and the production as a whole is miles ahead of them. What I love about this album is how each song has its own identity; its own sound, and its own story. There are definitely some surprises in store for our fans. One song that in particular stands out for me is “Independent Soul” because it sounds absolutely nothing like anything U.P. has put out before. I’m really excited to see what everyone thinks!” says vocalist Tyler Mayfield.

On this record, the band’s main ambition is to take fans on a unique, powerful, and intense listening experience. The overarching theme of “Challenger” is one of triumph over adversity and having the courage to throw off your “chains” (both physical and mental) and strike out on your own. UTILITY PROVIDER wants fans to be able to make a connection with the music and connect with them on a very personal level. They showcase this with a concept of a side “A” and a side “B”.

“Up until this album, all U.P songs were written in drop C tuning. The first 6 songs of the album stay in that same drop C tuning, however side “B” is written in A# tuning – it’s literally a whole new sound for our fans! The transition from side “A” to side “B” is marked by a beautiful instrumental track written solely by guitarist Chris Thomas called “Northern Storm”. We hope the listeners will enjoy this nuance within the album. We sure had a ton of fun recording it!” adds Mayfield.

Lyrically, the album “Challenger” was mostly penned by vocalist Tyler Mayfield who wants to tell a story. He elaborates:

“As the lead vocalist, I feel that it’s my duty to put into words the message that the music is trying to convey. There is a lot of teamwork between Chris and myself to get that right. So in this way, the lyrics don’t always necessarily reflect my personal life, but are more tailored to reflect the story within the music.”

Drummer Vadim Cartovenco adds:

“This is the title track of the album so we spent a lot of time making sure the production was exactly what we wanted. Music was written by Vadim and Chris during 2023 and we played the song live a lot. The music, I think, sounds like a cool mix of thrash and power metal. The guitars are especially highlighted in this song to give it that power and distinct U.P tone that Chris is known for. The verses have quick guitar licks overtop of the main melody to add flavor. The vocals are mostly clean so listeners can hear the lyrics, which embody the theme of the album. Drums is a combination of thrash metal and progressive metal, Vadim’s favorite part is the groove section where China played with off beat pattern. This song in particular focuses on overcoming physical challenges with a fighting spirit. You will notice that the lyrics repeat in each verse – this was done on purpose to really drive home the point.”

With members individually influenced by different elements of metal. You will hear their sonic meshing of blues rock, prog metal, thrash, and grunge as they reveal their single and title track accompanied by a lyric video. The song itself is a mix of thrash and power metal with the guitars highlighted to give it that U.P. tone that Chris Thomas is known for. Lyrically co-written by Mayfield and Thomas, the track focuses on overcoming physical challenges with a fighting spirit.

0 Nova Scotia’s HUMAN MISSILE CRISIS Releases Powerful, Garage Punk Video For Title Track From Debut “Liquor Store Stories”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 27, 2023

Nova Scotia’s HUMAN MISSILE CRISIS Releases Powerful, Garage Punk Video For Title Track From Debut “Liquor Store Stories”

L-R – DJ Vaters – Guitar/Vocals, Matthew MacIsaac – Drums, Justin Boutilier – Bass

Human Missile Crisis is a therapeutic journey; being on the verge of your thirties while still not knowing what the hell is going on. It’s reconciling the forces that pull on your life: relationships, substances, depression, and the world around you. And it’s creating music with no boundaries or preconceived bullshit. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia trio started out in the vein of punk rock, but after jamming it out they’ve reached a more garage rock post-punk type sweet spot, which they are excited to show off in their debut album “Liquor Store Stories”. The album dropped on August 25th, and a video for the title track, being released now, is going to draw the latecomers in. Guitarist/vocalist DJ Vaters opens up about the personal track:

“The title track and arguably the most important song to me. This is one of the first songs that I wrote, and it tells the story of a toxic relationship plagued by substance abuse, mostly alcohol abuse finally breaks down but both parties refuse to let go even though they both know that it’s the best thing for both. Musically this song is very powerful rhythmically and has a bridge that honestly is just fun to play.”

That song was chosen to go out first, according to Vaters, because he wants the music to reach people in a similar headspace he was in when he wrote it, in case it can be cathartic to anyone else. Lyrically, “Liquor Store Stories” is a whirlwind of a journey through life, love, frustration, jealousy, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, making mistakes, learning from them, and moving on while dealing with and existing in an anxiety-fueled world. Musically, it reflects all that with powerful moments and loud rock-out parts, Human Missile Crisis tried to capture the energy of their live show on this record which is packed with aggression, romance, hopefulness, hopelessness, and ultimately a strong uplifting message.

Dedicated to their friends who are no longer with us, Bryan, Eric, David, and Charles, “Liquor Store Stories” was recorded at The Sonic Temple by Lil Thomas, mixed by Braden Kamermans, and mastered at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon by Brad Boatright. It is recommended for anyone who enjoys the sounds of Idles, Fucked Up, and Pup.

“I had a weird sensation while listening to the massive punch and swagger of “Liquor Store Stories” by Dartmouth, Nova Scotia based Human Missile Crisis. Not only is the title amazing and sounds like an anthology series on Hulu, the crunchy assaulting guitars, the nimble hyper bass lines, atomic drumming and strident vocal scowling aesthetic had me thinking of a 70’s Mod revival rock band instead of a punk outfit, namely, the iconic JAM. Maybe it is the major 7th and miner chords I think I am hearing, maybe it is the vocal countenance that does have a heavier sort of iteration of Weller, and maybe it is the fury of the bass and drums, of everything really. And it also might be the sense of talking about the inner workings of hometowns.

By the way, sonically, I also thought of an amalgam of early punk like the Buzzcocks and more current bangers like Prince Daddy & The Hyena.” -Robb Donker Curtius / American Pancake

“Merging elements of Garage Rock and Post-Punk, they end up delivering an exciting song to the listener, with great melodies and which stands out mainly for its great rhythmic work, with its striking bass line and vocals with great melodies.” -Leandro Vianna / Roadie Metal

“Maybe “Blackwater” from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia based Human Missile Crisis is about wishing those who disappeared from your life well, maybe not. Maybe it is all about the glorious noise, the throttling bass bottom heaviness that kicks you in the gut, maybe not. Maybe it is about finding what you are searching for and not dive deep into the blackness to find it, maybe not. In the end, maybe Human Missile Crisis feels like Black Sabbath, The Dead Kennedys, Coachwhips, Bass Drum of Death atom smashed together into something else entirely, something visceral and impactful.” -Robb Donker Curtius / American Pancake

“”Liquor Store Stories” is a single recently dropped by Nova Scotia-based band, Human Missile Crisis. Boasting an infectious energy equipped with melodic vocal flows and anthemic instrumental work, this is a powerful new tune that delivers a unique blend of styles. Elements of punk, garage rock, indie, and emo are all present here, and the band shines brightly by creatively blending all the influences into one full sound.” -Havoc Underground

“”Too Long” is a melody that will really provoke something powerful and luminous in you with its most violent and rhythmic rhythms, capable of awakening the monster that you keep inside of you, this band will shake you with this crazy song bathed in the best alternative sounds and aggressive sounds of punk fused with the darkness of a more balanced rock.” -End Sessions

“‘Too Long’ by Human Missile Crisis is an energetic, aggressive and dark punk and rock whose instruments provide an auditory explosion in the best of the senses, causing a piece of music full of rhythm to be manufactured. While listening to the song I couldn’t stop moving my head back and forth because of how catchy it is, it’s one of those songs that you fall in love with in a second. I loved the song from start to finish and I hope you do too.” -Javier Alfonso / La Caverna

“The album begins with “Do you Remember”, a song that has a powerful guitar in its intro and remains that way, but from the beginning you say this album is not going to stop, it is going to maintain that hard and aggressive rhythm, although They also have California punk songs like “The Spark”, and of course they also have songs like “Distant Memory”, with a slower rhythm, but with the same strength in the voice. This album really has 9 incredible tracks for those who like garage and punk, and also get into slam.” -Miguel Castillo/ La Caverna

“Opening the record is ‘Do You Remember’, a three-minute romp that must be powered by Jack Daniels because the vocals have that tinge of Lemmy about them. The track ebbs and flows for those 180 seconds but always comes back to the punchy punk-rock vibe that is at the core of Liquor Store Stories.” -Dan Hemming / Hard Beat Magazine

Hardball is an emerging punk/grunge act from Vancouver, BC, Canada, who are set to release their debut self-titled album in July. The deadly trio of seasoned musicians is eager to play something that is uncommon these days and the new album delivers something that is reminiscent of the 90s with a modern twist amidst the punk and grunge rock chaos. The second single is “NRA”, which captures huge-sounding drums, and over-the-top-heavy, layered guitars. To them, the vibe is also very important and resulted in rerecording some sections many times trying to get the energy exactly how we wanted.

According to Hardball, the single is musically just supposed to sound completely bonkers. Drums going completely ape all over the place, obnoxious riffing, and big low-tuned power chords, the heavily distorted bass guitar holds down the main riff. Lyrically, it is an anthem about gun control. Not really even with a coherent position on the matter. Calling it NRA despite not directly having anything to do with the NRA, was a humorous take to them. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Budgie explains more:

“I guess what I’m trying to say is that the US has major social problems that have led to regular shootings. I don’t like it, and I can’t do anything about it. But, I’m going to shout about it the way a scared, confused child might. I think listeners will recognize that we’re not a nostalgia act, there is a clear influence from contemporary punk and hardcore that shows through. I think people will recognize that this is original and genuine music.”

Hardball is composed of former Poles frontman and Vancouver local Scott Budgie, as well as Okanagan residents, drummer Jeremy Head also of The Motion Picture, and bassist Jamie Black. Their self-titled album is a joint production between recording engineer Matt Roach of Rain City Recorders in Vancouver, BC (Baptists, Misery Signals, Comeback Kid) and mix engineer Felix Fung of Little Red Sounds in New Westminster, BC (Needles//Pins, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Mode Moderne).

In support of the album, Hardball is setting out on tour this August with appearances throughout Western Canada. Full tour dates are listed below. They are recommended for fans of Wipers, Hüsker Dü, and Flipper.

MOTORJUNKIE and Exitus Stratagem Records Release Video For “Cold Barrel” Bringing Awareness To Veteran Suicide

“The Shadow In I” Out Now!

L-R – Billy Varga – Guitar, Chris Cox – Vocals, Marvin Rogers – Drums, Michael Cooper – Bass

Motorjunkie, a stalwart in the North Carolina hard rock music scene announces the release of their latest video, “Cold Barrel”. Billy Varga, guitarist, wrote the song as a tribute to his stepfather, and to raise awareness of the rampant suicide problem that plagues the nation’s military veteran population.

“My stepfather was a U.S. Army veteran who took his own life a month before we entered the studio to begin recording the EP. I wrote the song in one afternoon as a bonus track, but it became the leading track on this EP. The video chronicles the events that transpired the afternoon my stepfather made the fateful decision that ended his life. If we can help save just one life through this song and video, we will have done our job.”

We provide resources at the end of the video for those struggling with depression or dark thoughts.

Born out of the southern biker scene, Motorjunkie is popular among rock fans, motorcycle enthusiasts, and military members. A fresh alternative to both the straight blues and the heavy metal scenes, Motorjunkie combines the best of both genres. In the 2000s their music was a bit heavier and bordered on full-out metal but has since evolved into a broader rock-centric vibe that appeals to a wider audience. There is no theme, costume, or flowery object standing in the way of Motorjunkie’s music.

Like a bad-ass American muscle car, this group only gets better with age. Fans of classic rock bands like Alice in Chains, Corrosion of Conformity, and Tool will love Motorjunkie.

New Album “Mythos” Out Now!

Photographer Credit – Bradley Trivett

Canadian progressive grunge rockers Hunting Giants are sharing their next video for the track “Kindred” off their latest album “Mythos” released this past November. “Mythos” is the new crowning achievement from Hunting Giants who have put in many years of musical work, writing, and recording while gigging and enduring quarantine as a band during the Covid pandemic. The album’s goal is to grab listeners and amaze them with intricate woven stories, energetic riffs, and distinctive vocals. The album is meant to be an adventure, with each track having its own flavour and setting; the songs are worlds unto themselves. All of the music on the release contribute to a listening experience that is much more than the sum of its parts. The material is an addictive encounter that will keep you coming back.

The band explains in further detail about “Kindred”:

“Opening up with the flight of guitars as they soar over a pounding bass riff, this song is about casting away the pain and trauma of the past and coming together as allies with those whom we once saw as enemies. The open chords of the chorus leave room for the bass and percussion to accent the coming riff as the vocal sing about the power of unification. The bridge drops into a monologue where our protagonist is faced with one final challenge. This gives way to a last verse where we as the listener are given the choice to decide what happens in our futures. The triumphant outro hints of Queens of the Stone Age as the vocal harmonies ease into a final harmonized note.”

Listen to “Kindred” at https://youtu.be/I-VaQeZiBbI

Hunting Giants is recommended for those who enjoy 90s grunge, heavy rock, and prog, especially fans of Alice In Chains, I Mother Earth, Soundgarden, Tool, and Audioslave.

“A glorious adventure is about to begin, starting right here today! Heavy metallers Hunting Giants are debuting their brand new music video for “Rituals,” the first single from their upcoming album Mythos. The song indicates the zeal and the ambition that the band is bringing towards this new record, due for release on September 30th. The “Rituals” video matches the flat-out intensity of the song, one that discusses necromancy and the harshness of hatred and shame.” – V13

“It’s not often that a band is described as ‘a blend of modern hard rock, progressive rock/metal and grunge influences,’ but that is indeed a fitting description of Vancouver’s Hunting Giants” – Bravewords

“If you’re tired of reading about the same old bands over and over again look no further. Its time to get excited about music again! Hunting Giants is a breath of fresh air! They are keeping the metal alive with their euphonious new sound. They hail from Canada where a lot hot new bands are burgeoning onto the music scene. Every song off their new album, Mythos is incendiary and their new album is a must have in your music collection.” – Metal Lair

“There are some fine songs on here like ‘Ancient Text’, ‘Too Big Too Kill’ and ‘Vanguard’… Guitarist Bradley Trivett has a neat line in big crunchy riffs and singer Stephen Atkey has a great voice. This will appeal to those who like Muse or Alice in Chains…” – Powerplay Mag UK

“Let me say this first, HUNTING GIANTS from Vancouver are REALLY freaking good. These guys are relatively new but they are tighter and more accomplished man many veteran bands.” – Rock You Show

“This is an album (Mythos) that you’ll want to wander through thanks to their technical proficiency and the production value.” – Metal Roos

“a solid listen, and a fairly unique combination of a few different styles. It’s mostly heavy enough for Metal fans, and mostly melodic enough for fans like myself who appreciate a good hook.” – Metal Temple

“Mythos’ features a very 1990s vibe, offering elements of nostalgia as well as a contemporary feel. They can go hard or ease back, adding theatre and energy in a single song (‘Vanguard’), and then draw deep on emotions (‘Mantle’). It’s a heady mix that runs alongside the overall story line in the album. ‘Mythos’ isn’t an album that will appeal to all. Certainly, those whose tastes veer towards the heavier end of the metal spectrum may baulk at it. It should however, appeal to a wide range of fans, who will be able to appreciate the textured and layered songs and the ambition of a band who have delivered a fine release.” – The Razor’s Edge

“a sonically pleasing experience that had a few unusual stylistic fusions. Most of the time, it’s strong enough for Metal enthusiasts as well as being melodic enough for people like myself who adore theatricality. Additionally, they demonstrated some excellent playing.” – Ever Metal UK

“Hunting Giants: Will grab listeners and amaze them.” – Permafrost Today

“There is a lot to discover here. The sound of the varied album is also well controlled and the rhythm section really bangs.” – Saitenkult

Canada’s Hunting Giants are offering up their next video “King of Ashes” in support of their latest album “Mythos” released this past September. The album’s closer is an epic industrial ballad that is reminiscent of both Nine-Inch-Nails and King Crimson. The vocals ponder on the futility of victory at all costs as the percussion and instruments chase each other in polyrhythmic complementation. A constant yet subtle feedback loop heightens the vocals until they crescendo in a final lament, “Oh, to be the King of Ashes.” In finality, the album comes to a close and fades out with the ringing of a gong.

Watch and listen to “King of Ashes” via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

“Mythos” is the crowning achievement of Hunting Giants‘ many years of musical work, writing and recording while gigging and enduring quarantine as a band during the Covid pandemic. The members of Hunting Giants all came from, and are inspired by, progressive rock and metal bands where songs would often pass the ten-minute mark. However, they desired to keep their own music concise and to the point, intentionally lacking much of the excess material that so often padded run-times of songs in the progressive rock-metal genre. Simple and clean lines are given priority over complicated abstractions that only challenge the player in an athletic way, provided that it serves the music.

Hunting Giants is confident that new listeners, as well as those familiar with them through their previous release “Skyward Eyes”, will find an accomplished intensity and listenability in “Mythos”, which represents their musical growth and evolution. Each of the thirteen songs was specially picked for the album to contribute to the overarching story in a theatrical and energetic manner. With riffs that will inspire and lyrics that will mystify.

“This album is musically very diverse as it ranges from intense white-knuckled metal tracks, down to gentle instrumental tracks peppered with melodic piano and haunting cello, all the way to epic ballads tastefully complimented by choirs, strings, and bells. Mythos lyrically explores archetypes, both heroic and villainous, that affect the world around us, as well as the inevitable fates which arise when these values are heinously held and expressed.” adds the band.

Hunting Giants is recommended for those who enjoy a 90s vibe and progressive elements, especially fans of Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Tool, and Audioslave.
