Fort McMurray’s SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY Tapped As Local Support for ANTHRAX and EXODUS

+ Added Punk Canada Compilation Volume 5

L-R – Reilly Williams – Drums, Shawn Maynard – Guitar & Lead Vox, Mike Cheney – Bass & Vox

Fort McMurray, Canada’s hottest punk thrash commodity, Supermodel Taxidermy has been tapped as local support for legends ANTHRAX and EXODUS’ performance in the Alberta North on February 22nd at MacDonald Island.

This one has been a long time coming for the fanboy trio who have looked up to both bands as influences. Frontman Shawn Maynard comments:

“Ripping up the stage with Gary Holt, Scott Ian, and their crew is definitely unlocking a childhood dream of mine. On February 22nd, you’d best be wearing some shorts because we’re going to bring the heat.”

Unleashing their second album, “At What Cost,” in May 2024, the band has torn through the Western Canadian scene like a wrecking ball, quickly becoming one of the region’s essential live acts. Released through Punishment 18 Records, “At What Cost” ignited a surge in their following with its explosive mix of razor‑sharp riffs, commanding vocals, and relentless energy that keeps listeners hungry for more.

Across ten tracks packed into just under thirty minutes, the record, produced by Rob Lawless and mixed/mastered by Terry Paholek, captures the band’s dedication to crafting a fierce, high‑impact listening experience. This collision of thrash metal and hardcore punk is a natural fit for fans of Iron Reagan, Dayglo Abortions, and Slayer.

Supermodel Taxidermy is currently halfway through writing their third album. And fans can expect to see the first single released later this year in a new music video. The band will also be supporting a Canadian tour with its full release. In the meantime, you can expect to see their name pop up at a few Canadian Festivals this summer.

In other exciting news, the band is set to appear on Punk Canada Compilation Volume 5, which drops on vinyl this June. The release features sixteen Canadian punk bands putting their own spin on sixteen classic Canadian punk tracks from the 20th century. Supermodel Taxidermy chose to cover Vancouver’s Lummox, a project founded by Murray Acton of Dayglo Abortions.

As the band put it, “We even got Murray to hop on the track for a solo, so you know it’s not going to disappoint.”

#41 on Loudwire weekly wire: TOP 50 Best New Rock & Metal Songs for the single Blood Painted Dash (2022)

“it’s fun and catchy, it’s crazy fast and just makes you want to throw yourself into walls.” – The Metal Crypt

“At What Cost is one richly impressive and increasingly addictive release. It looks like SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY is coming for the world and the cost? Sheer pleasure!” – The Ringmaster Review

“blends skate punk with elements of thrash into a lethal concoction that slaps you in the face as it runs by. The atmosphere they create is explosive; a mix of punk rock energy with thrash level instrumentals. Their sound is reminiscent of Bad Brains or Minor Threat, but with a harsher bite. The amount of authentic punk energy Supermodel Taxidermy crammed into this record is almost unbelievable, and when combined with the instrumental elements of thrash, its tone is almost deadly. Energetic and emphatic, the band’s raw mix of chaotic energies serves them well on this record. There is no real lull in energy at any point within this record, proving that if Supermodel Taxidermy can do anything, it’s bring in the heat.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Punk rock and thrash when combined can elevate the energy to that youthful exuberance that is hard to resist. Supermodel Taxidermy lean into their love of those styles on At What Cost, creating an enthusiastic platter that channels its messages in short, solid songs that will get the hordes moving. Could be the best skater soundtrack to bust out those rad, death defying moves for 2024.” – DeadRhetoric

“Songs like “Exorcist for Beer”, “Blood Painted Dash”, and “Lipstick” run the hardcore punk/thrash metal gamut, from party anthems to horror tales, to the band’s metal-fueled love for scene chicks. SUPERMODEL TAXIDERMY’s “At What Cost?” drips Gen-X punk and metal sensibilities. If that’s your bag, go get it. You won’t be disappointed.” – Wormwood Chronicles

“An album that leaves its mark and will make you follow them into the future.” – True Metal
