XAEL (ft. members of Nile, The Reticent, Rapheumets Well) are conjuring the resurrection of “Srai – The Demon of Erring” with their new music video in support of their latest album sci-fi escapade “Bloodtide Rising” released this past February via Pavement Entertainment.

The video is the next visual exploration into the fictional sci-fi world created by band founder and drummer Joshua “Nassaru” Ward and can be viewed via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

Ward explains the album in further detail:

“In Xael, we are trying to not only create some brutal and primal metal, but cultivate the fusion of storytelling and epic adventures. We are building a multiverse with diverse planets and odd-powerful creatures, taking listeners on a journey. This specific album follows the ‘watchers’ as we are assimilated into the vile and mysterious world of Vuul Athmar. It is a tragic love story turned horror. Musically, we incorporate tribal elements, Asian and traditional folk instruments, and an array of vocals to capture the variety of emotions. Though there was a global pandemic, we worked hard to bring this musical odyssey alive and we are excited to finally share it.” 

Hailing from the American Carolinas, XAEL brings forth with them epic symphonic death metal like no other. Their new album entitled “Bloodtide Rising” is a concept record rooted in a science fiction universe that XAEL revolves all their music around. The extreme symphonic release chronicles the journey of a character named Darmak, an immortal who is trying to find purpose in a chaotic and complex multiverse.

XAEL was initially meant to be a personal project by drummer Joshua “Nassaru” Ward, however, when other musicians showed interest it evolved into a full-fledged project with each member contributing equally towards this current full length and the band’s first album “The Last Arbiter” (2018).

Fans of progressive and brutal metal along with sci-fi enthusiasts will take interest in what XAEL is doing. It’s different, and listeners can get lost in the complex multiverse that they have conceived. Epic and extreme, it is recommended for fans of Septicflesh, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Nile.

XAEL drummer and band founder Joshua “Nassaru” Ward comments:

“We are really excited to be joining the mighty Bloodbath for the 2022 North American tour. Being long-term fans, this is a dream come true for us. This is going to be a unique and brutal tour with some rather interesting theatrics and bone-crushing metal! We look forward to seeing everybody on tour.”

Bloodtide Rising Concept:
Imprisoned by the counsel of Tymeer, led by the insidious entity Sen, Darmak “ cursed with a degrading immortality” and the Watchers of Xan were presented as an offering to the Sovereign Ruler and rare species collector, Atara Avuniir in exchange for military and economic support. Finding Favor with the Queen, the Watchers were integrated into her elite guard where they became renowned for their success.

Unforeseen, the Queen fell in love with Darkmak and she would bear to him a son.  Vuul Athmar along with the outer planets of the Eiasian-Rim prospered yet the queen harbors a dark secret, an anomaly that threatens the outer-worlds.

Touring history:
Though Xael is a new project, the members are no stranger to touring. Brad Parris, being the frontman and bass player for Nile embarks on yearly international tours. Along with Joshua Ward (who is the drum tech for George Kollias of Nile), they have toured most of Europe, Australia, India, South America, Russia, and Japan. Other members being from bands such as Rapheumets Well and The Reticent are all versed in national and international touring.

Montreal, QC’s Sanguine Glacialis have a new music video for the track “Kraken” in support of their 2018 album “Hadopelagic”. The band experiments with a vast array of musical styles such as jazz, classical, folkloric music, and Latin music while keeping a very strong melodic death metal accent.

Today, the band is asking fans to come dance La Valse des condamnés! with the premiere of the video for “Kraken” via Bravewords HERE.

Sanguine Glacialis explains the song in their own words:

“This is the third and last single from our album “Hadopelagic”. It’s actually the first song that was written when we finished the recording of our first album “Dancing with a Hanged Man”, and because of that, you can clearly hear the influences of the first album and former line-up. It’s a song that we all liked, so we decided to keep it and adapt it to our new line-up. The lyrics talk about a man who goes to sea, knowing well that a monster awaits him, and despite the warnings of the people around him, unfortunately never comes back. The music video is centered on this story, showing a ghost ship wandering the seas, reliving the passengers’ deaths in the hands of the Kraken, forever.”

“Hadopelagic” is the second full-length album from Sanguine Glacialis, following 2012’s “Dancing With A Hanged Man” and 2016’s EP “Pitch Black Sight”. The beauty of Sanguine Glacialis is that their influences shine through prominently in their music, and each song has its own atmosphere, taking from a unique slice of the musical spectrum.

With this album, the band took a huge step forward and fans have been appreciating its mature sound much more than the previous one. According to the band, everything is better on this release and they are proud of the new direction they have taken. There has been talk of writing another album and getting back to live performances in the not too distant future.

Fans of Fleshgod Apocalypse, Between the Buried and Me, and Diablo Swing Orchestra will likely be interested in the genre-bending sounds of Sanguine Glacialis.

It’s rather difficult to slot Sanguine Glacialis into one specific style because they utilise a good amount of approaches and genres into their music, such as death metal and symphonic metal, as well as more unusual styles such as classical and jazz. Hailing from the Carolinas in the USA, comes XAEL (ft. members of Nile, The Reticent, Rapheumets Well), bringing with them epic symphonic death metal like no other. They have recently released an album entitled “Bloodtide Rising” (February 12, 2021) and now have a music video for the title track, which features guests Mathieu Marcotte (Guitarist from Augury and Humanoid) and Nate Miller (Chinese Violin).

The title track was the first song written for the new album, and thus sets the tone of the entire full length. It is primal and epic, showcasing the brutal nature of the main antagonist of the record’s story. XAEL explains the track and album in their own words:

“It’s an auditory odyssey, it’s brutal and emotional all at once. The story of the album really focuses on the members of the band who are called the “watchers of Xan” in which we navigate the different worlds. This album focuses on our arrival to Vuul Athmar as our characters are sold off from the prison of Dreadrift. We craft our own multiverse and create our own lore. Though Xael is a new project, the members are no stranger to touring. Brad Parris, being the frontman and bass player for Nile embarks on yearly international tours. Along with Joshua Ward (who is the drum tech for George Kollias of Nile), they have toured most of Europe, Australia, India, South America, Russia, and Japan. Other members being from bands such as Rapheumets Well and The Reticent are all versed in national and international touring.

Unleashing their melodic death sci-fi escapade “Technotheism” digitally on Jan 29th, Ontario, Canada’s The Design Abstract announce that the full-length is now available physically as a limited run of CDs via their label Abstrakted Records.

The band comments:

“We are very excited to announce that due to an overwhelming amount of interest from fans for a CD release of Technotheism, we now have exactly that! It features the iconic artwork in a full jewel case, manufactured right here in Canada. The run is limited to 50, and a lot of people got in on it early, so if this something you’ve been waiting for, don’t miss out! We’re very grateful we’ve been able to make this happen, thank you to everyone who expressed interest in buying our music on CD.”

The Design Abstract‘s new album “Technotheism” invokes the futuristic sounds of science fiction, as the band takes a step away from the traditional use of orchestral writing, by making it the soundtrack for anything space or cyberpunk related.

Still, in the experimental age for the band, each song is written completely differently and by different members of the band. “Technotheism” is purely a science fiction story told as such in a monumental thirteen track work of symphonic melodic death metal. It tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between. The band explains the album:

“We incorporate a blend of metal, orchestra, and industrial music that hasn’t been done in this way. Nobody can top the orchestral metal masterpieces like Death Cult Armageddon by Dimmu Borgir or Codex Omega by Septicflesh, however, we push this genre into the distant future, with the sounds of a cyberpunk dystopia punctuating every release.

This album is the absolute pinnacle of what the band is currently capable of, which speaks volumes to the fact that most of it was written so long ago. Most metal bands who incorporate orchestral writing do so in a pointedly antiquated way: the goal is to sound a bit archaic. The sound of The Design Abstract is rooted in futuristic science fiction. It’s a classically scored orchestra, but it sounds anything but old fashioned.”

The dramatic, grandiose music is presented in an articulate, but extreme wall of sound suitable for fans of science fiction, and melodic death metal and bands such as Fleshgod Apocalypse, Machina, and Dimmu Borgir.

Unleashing their melodic death sci-fi escapade “Technotheism” on Jan 29th, Ontario, Canada’s The Design Abstract are sharing with fans their latest lyric video for the track “Parallel Projection” in support of the full-length. The song is choppy electronic arpeggio punches along with the kick drum in perfect time, creating a more synthetic sound than most of the songs before it on the record. It features a very traditional song structure and some of the catchiest guitar parts you will on “Technotheism”.

The band adds:

“Parallel Projection is a very unique track in the context of Technotheism, since it contains almost no orchestral elements whatsoever. This track is the furthest we have ever gone into combining arpeggiated industrial electronic music with fairly straightforward melodic death metal. You could say it’s the most “minimal” track on the album if there even is such a thing with a band like us. The bridge was inspired by Gojira, which is an influence that also sets it apart from the rest of the album. We knew very early on that this song was going to be “single material”. “

Unleashing their melodic death sci-fi escapade “Technotheism” on Jan 29th, Ontario, Canada’s The Design Abstract are sharing with fans their latest video for the track “Annihilation” in support of the full-length. The video was filmed while the band, like many others, are observing Covid 19 quarantine lockdown.

The band comments:

“While we’re in lockdown, we wanted to share Annihilation, which can be best summarized in one word… ‘Violent’… From the gut-wrenching opening bass line to the slap-in-the-face industrial transitions, this song is indisputably the angriest and most irreverent on the album. The ending buildup and breakdown push into deathcore territory while the orchestral parts soar higher than ever.”

Out on January 29, 2021, “Technotheism” is the second full-length album from the band who also have two EPs in their catalogue. For those already familiar with their music, the creative blend of industrial and orchestra continue in “Technotheism”, albeit being even more technical and expansive than the previous releases. The band maintains that this will be the flagship album for them.

The two singles from the album “The Apotheosis” and “The Return” have already been released and are now streaming.

The singles are respectively the second oldest and second newest tracks on the album, and the bulk of the album lands somewhere in the middle in terms of writing and sound. “The Apotheosis” is two minutes packed full of everything The Design Abstract is capable of, and “The Return” is a more open and whimsical track revisiting some of the elements that made the earlier releases work. The band remarks on the singles:

“They were carefully chosen to show the scope of the album at large. “The Apotheosis” was written with the explicit purpose of showing off everything the band could do in one two minute whirlwind. The synth in this track is something very unique and indicative of the character of the band, and the structure is a fresh take on the genre. “The Return” is a triumphant song, littered with innovative, instrument layering and crunchy synth sounds. We really wanted to turn the contrast up so to speak: the guitar work is noticeably more death metal, but the vocals and orchestral passages are more soaring than ever. The outro features a notably unique synth solo, followed by the anthemic chorus.”

The Design Abstract crosses all the lines of the musical spectrum, darting from harsh industrial, soaring orchestral, melodic death complete with guttural screams contrasted with crystal clean singing finished off with a generous serving of synth. Each element is worked into the songs in a unique and comprehensive way.

Recommended for fans of Septicflesh, Scar Symmetry, and Dimmu Borgir, “Technotheism” is suitable for a variety of music fans.

The Design Abstract is a two-piece sci-fi-themed symphonic melo-death band from Ontario, Canada consisting of Logan Mayhem (guitar, songwriting, synth programming), and Voiicide (bass, vocals, scoring, additional sampling/programming). The band formed with a single goal: to create a blend of industrial-influenced symphonic metal that had never been done before. Since the debut album Emanate in 2017, The Design Abstract has sought to shed the antiquated tendencies of orchestral metal bands, instead pushing far into the future conceptually and lyrically.
