Canadian gothic rockers VAN HALST are asking the ‘Questions’ with their new music video premiered on Femme Metal. The video emphasizes to viewers a strong message to take action against domestic violence and rape culture among many other issues that vocalist Kami Van Halst writes in her socially conscious lyrics.
Kami Van Halst comments:

““Questions is a very important song for us. There is so much victim blaming in our society and we wanted to draw attention to this issue. My sister (Brittney Grabill) and I wrote this song in response to a series of sexual assaults that were happening in our home town. We were appalled by the lack of focus on the perpetrator and the questions being asked of the victims such as “Well what were they doing there in the first place?” We need to stop putting the blame on the victims and shift our focus to preventing these altercations in the first place. People need to understand that violence and abuse towards another person, any person, is not ok.”

Please be advised this video shows scenes of violence towards women. This is intended to raise awareness about victim blaming.

About:
VAN HALST
, a project that first began as a solo endeavour for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations. The band’s influences stay true to goth rock with Kami Van Halst demonstrating an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummeling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgmental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.
Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Tara McLeod (Kittie) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

Canadian goth rock / metal band VAN HALST announce they will be performing on this year’s Metalocalypstick Festival in Valemount, BC on August 27th. The two day non for profit festival was formed to support women in metal, punk, hardcore and heavy bands! All bands on the fest line up feature one or more FEMALE member that are all Canadian and all power with special out of country guests Brazil’s NERVOSA headlining. 2% of proceeds from the festival will be donated to Girls Rock Camp and Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter. Full details and line up can be found at http://www.metalocalypstickfest.rocks.

“We are very excited to be performing at Metalocolypstick Fest. About:

Canadian band CELESTIAL RUIN is styled after European Symphonic Rock/Metal but executed with a decidedly North American flavor. Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable melodies, and rich symphonic textures. The compositions are “epic” by all accounts. Lyrical themes are mainly drawn from fantasy and horror, sometimes implying deeper meanings, sometimes just celebrating the subject matter.
Based out of Vancouver, BC, CELESTIAL RUIN started taking the scene by storm with their debut album “The Awakening”. Receiving favorable reviews in publications such as Rockstar Weekly Magazine professing a 4/5 star rating declaring, “If The Awakening is only the beginning of things to come, you’d best get on board now while the getting’s good.”
After successful 2012 and 2013 summer tours, CELESTIAL RUIN was offered many opportunities that included opening slots with Stone Temple Pilots, Leaves Eyes, Moonspell and being a featured performer for Vancouver Alternative Fashion Week for two consecutive years.
CELESTIAL RUIN is always looking for the next unique avenue to expose their distinctive sound. “We play in the grey area of rock music, we are too heavy for rock, but not heavy enough for metal” comments vocalist Larissa Dawn.
This is a praise that has been mirrored in many live reviews including Beat Route Magazine stating, “Celestial Ruin appears to be in a sub-genre scene of one…their differences are working to their advantage”.
From September- December 2015 they completed a cross Canada tour (Out of Exile) and are now preparing for the release of their 2016 EP ‘Pandora’ produced by Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Revamp, Xandria).
“As a significant jump forward from our debut album, from song writing to production, this EP was a journey that allowed to us grow, and we hope that fans will grow with us.” says Larissa Dawn.
A collaborative writing effort by CELESTIAL RUIN, the May 20th release of ‘Pandora’ will showcase the best of their best shared with fans new and old alike.

CELESTIAL RUIN Streaming New EP ‘Pandora’ via Metal-Rules.com

New EP ‘Pandora’ Out May 20th

Upcoming Show Dates:

May 21 – Vancouver, BC – The Venue – info (CD Release Show)
Aug 25-28 – Metalocalypstick Fest – Valemount, BC – info

Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, Vancouver, BC’s European influenced symphonic metal band CELESTIAL RUIN create catchy, singable and epic tunes that draw on lyrical themes of fantasy and horror, plus sometimes implying deeper meanings or just celebrating the subject matter at hand. Their new EP ‘Pandora’ is due out on May 20th to follow their 2012 debut album ‘The Awakening’ and before it drops they have teamed up with Metal-Rules.com for the full stream premiere of the release, which can be heard at the following link: http://www.metal-rules.com/metalnews/2016/05/13/celestial-ruin-streaming-new-ep-pandora-via-metal-rules-com-new-ep-pandora-out-may-20th/

Vocalist Larissa Dawn comments on the track:

“All the lyrics on “Pandora” were written about unleashing destruction into the world. Chaos caused by all the pain that negative emotions can create. A sort of cause and effect scenario. Each of the songs tells a different story and explores what happens when you make the wrong decision or fail to make any decision at all. Remaining stagnant and letting the world collapse in on you. The only song that kind of swerves from this theme is “No Quarter”, this song is more of a movie told through song. It follows the story of infamous pirate Davy Jones and the battle that ensues between him and a rival ship.

Pandora has a much darker feel to it and I hope it paints different pictures in peoples minds when they hear it. I want them to be able to imagine exactly what is going on, like it’s their own personal movie.”

About:
A fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal with strong socially conscious lyrics and advocacy for female rights, VAN HALST recently released their debut album ‘World of Make Believe’ on March 4th, 2016, which is now available on iTunes and Bandcamp.

VAN HALST, a project that first began as a solo endeavour for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations.
Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

Their new EP ‘Pandora’ is set for release on May 20th to follow their 2012 debut album ‘The Awakening’ and before it drops they have teamed up with PureGrainAudio.com for a FREE download of their first single ‘Sense of Exile’, which can be heard at the following link: http://puregrainaudio.com/audio/celestial-ruin-sense-of-exile-free-song-download

Lyric Video – http://skullsnbones.com/celestial-ruin-sense-of-exile-lyric-video-premiere/

Vocalist Larissa Dawn comments on the track:

“The concept of “Sense of Exile” is hopefully a relatable one, it’s about making a  life altering decision based on the needs and wants of others . Completely ignoring your own gut instinct and later recognizing that the choice you made has all kinds of negative repercussions. The sound and feel of this song may be high energy, but the lyrics and emotions behind it are that of anger, regret and despair. I’m sure many of us feel these mixed emotions frequently, so I am hoping the power behind the music allows people to just let out all their frustration and after think, “I fell a lot better now”.”

Digital and CD pre-order of the EP will be available as of April 22nd on iTunes and CD at www.celestialruin.com.

1. Murder of Crows (3:52)
2. Sense of Exile (4:17)

4. Nevermore (5:55)
5. Firestorm (4:53)
EP Length: 23:32

“The music on ‘Pandora’ is about unleashing chaos, beauty and all emotions into the world. It celebrates both the joy and the pain that emotions can create. The lyrics on this release come from a mix of personal experiences and fantasy elements. Most of the were written during a time when Larissa was going through recovery from a surgery and was unable to speak, sing and barely able to stand up. So the frustration, sadness, anger and fear she felt during her recovery created “Pandora”.” says drummer Adam Todd.
