Canada’s All Else Fails recently unleashed their EP “The Incident at Black Lake”, one of the darkest records they’ve ever written, it comes from a place of despair and torment as vocalist/guitarist Barrett Klesko battled with his inner demons. The music video for the latest single “Devour The Sun” ft. Seedy Mitchell (Sleepwraith, ex-All Else Fails) is an allegory about Klesko’s descent, rending the spaces between conscious suffering and unconscious turmoil. He explains the track in more detail:

“A child from a beautiful nameless place travels across existence. It was born in warmth and life, from an engine of creation, and its only need is to share who it is with whatever it comes in contact with. The child drifts, older now, and comfortable at first to be pulled along by the forces around it, buffeted across the ether, fulfilled by the simple act of experience. Over time, however, discontent begins to grow. Who was it? There must be a purpose beyond drifting endlessly in the black. Its questions turn to screams and cries in the heavens, but the black has no answers. Eventually, devoid of solace, its voice becomes quiet and its mind despondent. Musically this song follows an unconventional narrative. It ebbs and flows, thrash riffs turn to piano-esque clean parts. Soaring melodies devolve into full-bodied guttural torment before becoming ethereal whispers.”

“Devour the Sun” is about losing one’s purpose, becoming adrift and formless, buffeted by the uncontrollable winds of the common world, and unable to find solid footing. It is being swept into the wild, so far from one’s roots that they are barely a twinge of traumatic memory in the maw of the unknown. It is loud, it is quiet. It follows its own unusual structure while pulling the listener along its flow.

On this new EP, All Else Fails wrote until they felt that this selection of songs was complete, and then went into the studio. It’s much more personal lyrically, more direct, and in our current era, more relatable. There is a lot of chaotic energy in the recording, but they have placed every distorted chug, every strange gurgle, detuned synth, erratic glitch, or doom-inducing bass drop carefully.

Recommended for fans of Revocation, Soilwork, and Fleshgod Apocalypse, the music video for “Devour The Sun” can be seen and heard via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

“The Incident at Black Lake” is available at Allelsefails.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Over the last 15 years, Edmonton, Alberta based award-winning metal band All Else Fails has become a cornerstone of the melodic heavy metal community in Canada. Combining intense riffs, intricate rhythm sections, brutal guttural screams, and melodic yet unusual vocal lines paired with relevant and relatable lyrics, All Else Fails’ message resonates with us all.

Formed in 2006 with the release of their self-titled EP, All Else Fails has gone on to release 9 studio albums, many of which have garnered awards and nominations from across the Canadian music industry and have propelled the band into live performances all over the world, including their massively successful tour of India in 2017.

For the past two years, the band has been hard at work writing their new album “The Incident at Black Lake.” A deeply personal, brutally honest, and staggeringly complex take on the reality-bending mental struggles of vocalist and founder, Barrett Klesko (The Misfires, The Order of Chaos). The band is filled out by guitarist John Saturley (The Order of Chaos, Skepsis), bassist and vocalist Coco Lee (Eternal Prophecy), and drummer Nelson Collins-Lee (The 21st Agenda, Skepsis). The album is produced by Bevin Booth of In the Booth Recordings and engineered at The Electric Treehouse in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2022, the band is returning to their DIY roots by mindfully abandoning their social media and redirecting their energy to contributing to their local metal scene by building a direct personal connection to their fans and followers, living in line with a humanist philosophy and encouraging a culture of support between artists. All Else Fails’ new single “Flesh /Excess /Wealth” drops in early September with the full EP “The Incident at Black Lake” releasing September 30th. Fans can experience their explosive new live show this fall in Western Canada.

Canada’s All Else Fails is releasing its tenth studio recording this year, the aggressive and forlorn EP “The Incident at Black Lake”. Intended to be listened to as a single piece of music, it is dark, both musically and lyrically as vocalist/guitarist, Barrett Klesko wrote his parts in the darkest, most distressed headspace he has ever been in. He says that during the writing of this album, he was convinced that he had been unglued from time, and was barely functioning. This personal torment boils over into the first track written for the EP “I, Defiler”. Klesko explains further:

“In the early days of my spiral, when confusion about my own state was at its highest. I was doing everything I could to understand the suffering I was experiencing. I tried using Acid in an attempt to explore my own mind. Informally guided trips allowed me to see aspects of myself that I hadn’t considered, and I was desperately searching for clarity I couldn’t find in the real world. Primarily this song is about those explorations of self, both the positives and the futility. Musically the song is erratic, kinetic, and industrial. It is heavy, both in guitars but in electronics and noise as well, and carries a time change into its bridge that furthers the disconnect between perception and reality.”

“I, Defiler” is the brutal duality of man. Of the search for knowledge, while being blind to our own instincts and ambitions. It is poisoning one’s self to be able to see clearly. It is the beauty and loss of the endless night sky. It is seeing one’s self and being repulsed by the hollow behind our own eyes. It is despairingly industrial, always changing, relentless in its own turmoil; shifting between grinding guitar work and guttural screams to unnerving digital cleans backed by melodic programming.

Compared to their other nine albums, “The Incident at Black Lake” is heavier than they have been in a while, which fans always love from them, but it’s also much stranger. There is a lot of chaotic energy in the recording, but they have placed every distorted chug, every strange gurgle, detuned synth, erratic glitch, or doom-inducing bass drop carefully.

Recommended for fans of Killswitch Engage, Revocation, and Soilwork, the single “I, Defiler” can be heard via TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/x_6SuAOiS1A

Mexico’s LOST NEBULA Announces Canadian Tour To Support New EP “Created In The Image Of God”

New EP Out July 15th

Mexico’s proggy alt-rock outfit Lost Nebula is setting out on a Canadian tour this summer in support of their latest album “Created In The Image Of God”. This will be the fourth release from the band and it shows a distinct maturity without losing the desire to try new things – on the record, they introduce the use of synths and growls and bolsters songwriting.

Lost Nebula presents an approachable take to metal, infusing their sound with melodic choruses, hardcore breakdowns, both growling and clean vocals, and elements of pop, alternative metal, and prog. They cover familiar topics such as discrimination, dehumanization, and the growing dependency on technology. The band explains the upcoming album in their own words:

“All the music created by Lost Nebula is a reference to human emotions and feelings. In this case, it covers the human experiences of discrimination, which could be from a different way of thinking or a different way of looking at another person, basing it on transhuman people, in colloquial terms, people with prosthetic parts attached to them to enlarge and/or improve life. It goes from melodic prog metal to power ballad, making the distinctive sound of the band. Strident guitars and bass, tight and complex rhythm parts along with a warm female voice and something that has never been done before in the band, growl vocals added to one of the singles.”

Looking to take the complexity of progressive rock music and repackage it into a more commercial version, Lost Nebula went into this new album with an open mind, and tore down their boundaries. It is the most original, pure form of the band and they will surely impress old fans and captivate new ones.

The tour starts on Tuesday, July 19 in Montreal, QC and they will make their way across the country to Nanaimo, BC. Lost Nebula brings a unique show to every gig, and regardless of venue size, creates an immersive, memorable, epic experience.

Melodic, unpredictable, and creative, “Created In The Image Of God” is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Haken, and Leprous.

“Created In The Image Of God” is available as of July 15th.

Calgary’s Ravenous announce they will be opening for Unleash the Archers’ Edmonton tour date on Saturday, November 6th at the Starlite Room. They will be performing in support of their new album “Hubris” recently unleashed on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records (NA/EU) / Spiritual Beast (Asia).

Ravenous vocalist R. A. Voltaire adds:

“We are excited to join our friends UNLEASH THE ARCHERS in celebration of CONCERTWORKS’ 10 year anniversary. Not only are we great supporters of STARLITE ROOM (one of the best venues in Canada), we are also happy to see yet another venue and booking agency survive the havoc wreaked upon our industry by the Covid pandemic  – may this be the beginning of a prosperous time for bands, venues, staff, and crew all alike!”

Event Details can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1005204480319481/

Taking their performance, writing, and musicianship seriously, but allowing tongue-in-cheek humour and pop culture references to resonate through the songs, Ravenous is bringing fans anthemic tunes from a time when metal was hungry.

They bring a full lineup of experienced musicians together, ones that have toured extensively and are fully dedicated to providing a high-energy, high-intensity live experience. Ravenous seek to inspire others to find that inner triumph and glory that drove them to form this project – whether that means starting their own band, or just finding the strength to make a change in their lives – they seek to empower their followers through every step of their journey.

“Hubris” was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).

“Calgary’s Ravenous have fused their flamboyant cross-breeding of European power metal and early ‘80s US speed metal, using it like a sharp ’n’ shiny scythe to forge their way through the crowded underground. Past accomplishments have included tours and gigs with Delain, Alestorm, Hammerfall, Striker and Powerglove with festival appearances and headliners interspersed in between. Considering all of the above, it shouldn’t come as a surprise a large part of this quintet’s musical vocabulary involved loving it speedy, epic, melodically grandiose while having a sword waving good time in the process.” – Decibel Magazine

“Ravenous aren’t afraid to put it all out there; symphonic assaults blend with all-out thrash metal, underpinned by some of the most enthusiastic power metal of the year. From start to finish Hubris is chock full of anthemic and contagious fist-pumping, head-banging songs featuring dramatic vocals and shredding solos. Power metal fans rejoice: Hubris is a worthy addition to your collection.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“A great album of Power Metal, and even more. 9.5/10” – Metal Express Radio

“a sparkling speed metal fuelled power metal rampage, raising fists high, banging heads hard, and causing fans everywhere to roar out loud with delight. 5/5” – Metal-Roos

“a sparkling speed metal fuelled power metal rampage, raising fists high, banging heads hard, and causing fans everywhere to roar out loud with delight.10/10” – Metal Gods TV

“Hubris reminds me of early Dragonforce (the faster numbers) and Orden Ogan (the mid-paced material) though the songwriting is a notch or two below those bands currently. This is a solid second album from Ravenous, who display significant upside, and fans of the aforementioned bands will want to give it spin. 3.75/5” – The Metal Crypt

Edmonton death metallers Display of Decay announce they will perform their only hometown show of the year since the Covid pandemic closed city establishments for extreme live music.

During the pandemic, the band entertained fans with their old school brutality with live streams, played their only live show of 2020 at Decimate MetalFest during December along with them performing their one and only outdoor live event for 2021 at Alberta’s decibel-breaking metal fest Loud As Hell this past August.

On December 3rd, at Shakers Roadhouse in Edmonton, AB alongside Ashes of Yggdrasil, Naitaka, and Ravage Red, Display of Decay will showcase not only their latest album “Art In Mutilation” (2018) (Gore House Productions), but delight and punish their audience with an onslaught of new blast beats and evil gutturals from their yet to be titled forthcoming 2022 album.

Eager to melt faces and shake crowds with their personal blend of old school death metal in the veins of Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Decapitated, the band adds:

“Bringing talent from all over western Canada, as well as injecting our own “special touches”, we want this show to be one of the most memorable events of the year for lovers of heavy music.”

Event details can be found at the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2156367437839217/

Destroying stages and performing at festivals for over a decade, Display of Decay are veterans of the Canadian death metal scene. They have supported artists such as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, The Faceless, Origin, Beyond Creation, Disciples of Power, Archspire and Into Eternity along with multiple tours across the USA and Western Canada plus performances on festivals Las Vegas DeathFest, Loud As Hell, Slaughterfest, Armstrong MetalFest, and Farmageddon Open Air. After five well-received indie releases, Display of Decay will be unleashing a new album in 2022.

Leading up to the release of their new EP “Dark Water” on March 26th, 2021, Edmonton, Canada’s metalcore squadron Juliet Ruin is sharing their new lyric video for the third single “Fake Stigmata” via its premiere on New Noise Magazine HERE.

Featuring infectious soft-spoken melodic vocals with whiplashing djent riffs, “Fake Stigmata” entices fans to sit back and brace themselves for an anthemic experience that the band is offering up on their forthcoming four-track EP to follow their highly praised 2019 album “Old Stardust, Love, and Chaos”.

The band comments:

“Fake Stigmata is our third and heaviest track from our Dark Water EP, it explores darker lyrical themes and grittier vocals and instrumentals.”

Juliet Ruin‘s new EP “Dark Water” represents a step into a heavier domain for the band as they continue on with low-tuned guitars. The vocals on this record will certainly shock old fans and draw in new fans as frontwoman Jess’s work in the scream vocal area is apparent throughout as she raised the bar on the clean vocals as well with many pop diva-esque techniques.

“The listening experience we are going for is a hard-edged, but catchy experience with lyrics you can shout in anger, but also it leans positive on message.” says the band.

The conception of the new recording was born out of the desire among the members to create a sound with what they consider the true lineup after having a current member miss out on the OSLAC album. Planning originally to just record one single for 2021 became a four-song EP as the ideas were just unceasing to them. This is the freshest possible material from the mind of Juliet Ruin with all songs written within a year. Fans familiar with the band’s sound on previous releases will notice the evolution in a heavier direction.

Juliet Ruin is recommended for anyone who enjoys heavy and melodic metal with powerful vocals, especially those who already have The Agonist, Jinjer, and Killswitch Engage in rotation.

“Dark Water” will be available on March 26, 2021.

“Every band needs to find that element which connects them with a fanbase, and Juliet Ruin has done that early on in their career.” – V13

“Pre-album single “Spite” that features a Sprite logo is also reminiscent of “Cloud Factory” era Jinjer with an excellent vocal range on show. Blending riffs seamlessly with gravity defying leaps between sub-genres from classic Metal to Hard Rock to Metalcore, it’s a nice twist on the conventional approach.” – Metal Noise

“If you are into Halestorm, Jinjer, Killswitch Engage you are gonna fall in love with this group not just a bit. But madly and deeply! Grab a hold of this gem of a release on the 6th of September you aint gonna regret it , cos Juliet Ruin aint gonna “Ruin” ya day they are gonna make it !! ” – The Metal Gods Meltdown

“From hardrock, to metalcore and everythign in between, Juliet Ruin delivers a fun and interesting record with many sounds, attitudes and emotions.” – Heavy New York

“Juliet Ruin’s sound is comparable to a muddier version of Alexisonfire, with Ruin guiding the songs with her powerful voice while being backed up by Geislinger’s harsh screams and growls…. Juliet Ruin has been gaining more recognition after every concert with its single “Rogue Down” receiving a nomination at the Edmonton Music Awards.” – Vue Weekly (2017)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 16, 2020

THE ORDER OF CHAOS Unleash New Single ‘Breakpoint’ Off Upcoming Album “Maniacal”

“Maniacal” Out In 2020

Guitarist John Simon Fallon Announces Departure

The Order of Chaos is proud to present the new single ‘Breakpoint’, from their upcoming album entitled “Maniacal”. This is the band’s first release in over 2 years since the release of the “Night Terror” EP and their first full-length album “Apocalypse Moon” was released over 4 years ago.

“Maniacal” is powerful, fast, to the point, hard-hitting 10 song LP full of memorable choruses and catchy hooks.

The album was engineered by Diego Fernandez at Oracle Studios and Nathan Kidd at Method Music Productions in Edmonton, AB and was mixed by Nino Laurenne at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Finland (Wintersun, Amorphis, Sonata Arctica) along with mastering done by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers Mastering in Espoo, Finland (Rammstein, Volbeat).

This album is The Order of Chaos’ most mature, cohesive and dynamic songwriting effort to date and it represents the end of an era for the band as a founding member, and primary songwriter John Simon Fallon has sadly decided to step away from the group upon release of “Maniacal”.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding its release, the band is incredibly excited to share this album with everyone who has supported them through the past 15 years as well as to all their maniacal heavy metal fans across the globe.

The first single ‘Breakpoint’ from the album is accompanied by a lyric video developed by Dwi Nugraha of Genoicide Artwork, which can be viewed via MetalInjection HERE.

“Breakpoint” is one of the first ideas I wrote for this album, and it took me over a year to perfect. It was quite a manic process. Like all other songs on this album, it is not just a bunch of convenient riffs sandwiched together without thought or consideration. It is written from the heart. The aggressiveness of guitars are built on some of the frustrations I had not only in both my personal and professional life, and lyrically it explores many of the sentiments Amanda and I had, around the time I knew that it was time for me to hit pause on my tenure in TOOC.  It ended up being the opening track on “Maniacal” and also one of the singles which makes me extremely happy because I’ve been in love with this song since the minute Amanda and I started demoing it. It’s different from anything we’ve ever released but it definitely still has the signature sound our fans have grown to love. Check it out and you’ll see what I mean.” says John Simon Fallon

“Maniacal” presents a unique and fresh sound and modern direction for The Order of Chaos and allows the band to end this era of chaos on a high note.

The album will be formally released in 2020, with several additional singles being released over the next few months.

Additional details regarding a formal label/distribution deal and future plans for the group will also be released at a later date.

Track Listing:
1. Breakpoint (3:46)
2. Maniacal (3:19)
3. Believe in the Demon (3:24)
4. Silver Lining (4:03)
5. Dangerous Games (3:21)
6. Twist of Fate (3:44)
7. The Eve of Destruction (3:37)
8. Ride the Low (4:16)

“The Order of Chaos is one of the best bands ever to come out of Edmonton. Their show stacks up next to any international festival act” – Darryl Bowers, Boonstock Festival

“The Order of Chaos is the fucking warning that metal is still alive and that female vocalists are more than masturbation fodder. After the 3 years gone, they have not only returned, they have taken over. This is one of the best cds of 2015. You have been warned, this is the year of Chaos.” – Wicked Channel

“Their compositions are characterized by speed, highly skilled guitar playing that reflects on the solo and the lead parts of their music and of course melody that is combined with grooves and some thrash and melodic death metal riffs.” – Nick Parastatidis (Behind the Veil)

The intrepid duo of Edmonton’s Sleepwraith are releasing their debut album “Day Terrors” on January 17, 2020.

This is the first album from Sleepwarith in what is expected to be a series of releases under the name. The songs and overall flow of the album feel like a journey that takes an emotional toll on the listener, with dynamic parts and unexpected turns. To Sleepwraith it’s important to create music with levels of intricacy that you might not notice on the first listen. Sleepwraith explains their motivation behind writing the album:

“We created an album with little thought as to how it would be received, instead of focusing on making an album that we would want to hear. We’ve always felt that making art with this starting point has created some of the most genuine music out there. Hopefully, our fans enjoy music for the same reasons we do and enjoy this album as much as we do.”

The first single from this album is ‘The Aphelion Complex’, described by the band as an angry trip to the infirmary with soaring melodies and heavy intricacy. Sleepwraith expands on the lyrical themes present:

“The main inspiration is the need to expel the demons within and contain them in an art form. We use this inner turmoil as a starting place, and try to make it into something beautiful. It’s painful and sometimes disgusting, but it’s also therapeutic.

‘The Aphelion Complex’ is streaming on Sleepwraith’s on YouTube and website Sleepwraith.com

Track Listing:
1. The Aphelion Complex (6:16)
2. Transorbital Decay (4:08)

About:

Sleepwraith comes from Edmonton, Canada and the project has been incubated over the course of 20 years and five previous bands ranging from grunge to metalcore to punk rock to hardcore.

The partnership of Seedy Mitchell (guitars/vocals) and Ryan Biggs (drums) is based on a friendship that goes back to before either of them were playing music or even listening to metal. Now that partnership has developed into a dark and dynamic collaborative undertaking that sees Mitchell bringing material to the table in the form of multiple personalities (guitar, bass, vocals) and those elements being worked on together until a song is built.

Coming from different musical backgrounds, Mitchell and Biggs have found their differing styles complement each other and blend to form their brand of deep and intricate metal. Their music conveys emotion through the music but also maintains a technicality that makes it interesting to write and play, and subsequently, listen to.

Sleepwraith wants to tell stories musically and lyrically, focused primarily on creating and releasing new music and art without being concerned about playing it live. All of their energies have been pointed at that goal. With influences coming from all over the metal map including prog, death, mathcore, metalcore, and hardcore, Sleepwraith is an upcoming original band with something for all listeners. The more you listen to it, the more there is to hear.

Their debut album “Day Terrors” is slated for release on January 17, 2020.

Painting their canvas of extreme music with inspirations of real-life stories of murder, conspiracy, supernatural horror, and terror, Edmonton’s Tales of The Tomb unleashed their new EP “Volume Two: Mendicium” this past September. The EP is a vicious bite of grinding blast beats, technical shredding accompanied by venomous guttural lows. Inspired by true events, the duo offer up gore-filled lyrics with a quivering soundscape. The EP was mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitarist and head engineer/owner at The Grid Studios Christian Donaldson along with featuring artwork by Tony Midi of Tonymidi Artworks. The EP also contains a bonus track about the Japanese horror film ‘Mermaid In A Manhole’, which the band have put together a new lyric video for at the following link HERE.

The band explains the story behind the bonus track in further detail:

“‘Mermaid In A Manhole’ is the only song we have written that is truly-fictional. Based on a Japanese horror film Mermaid in a Manhole. The song focuses on a painter that is suffering from depression, who disembowels his wife while in a psychotic state. The story of the song ‘Mermaid in a Manhole’ does not really fit into our conspiracy theme we have for this EP. This is why we decided to list it as a bonus track to give it a proper release and the band had no plans to write more true-fiction based songs. Sonically we tried to recreate the psychosis the painter was going through, we wanted to represent the chaos that must have been going on in the painter’s mind to have brought himself to murder his wife. There is a sample at the end of the song, which has the sound of chopping and a man speaking in Japanese. This is audio taken right from the movie at the part where the painter is sitting on the ground covered in blood chopping up the remains of his mermaid saying, “My Mermaid, My Mermaid is dead.”

“Volume Two: Mendicium” is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Unified by the desire to have the grotesque power of 90’s era death and murder metal, Tales of The Tomb started as a thought that grew into an insatiable need to make extreme music.  Tales Of The Tomb was created in October 2013 from founder Corey Skerlak (guitar, vocals) out of inspiration from the original murder metal band Macabre.

Much of their inspiration is drawn from the hideous crimes and conspiracies of the world. Retelling stories of the dark hidden secrets and victims from such crimes. This was the inspiration for the name Tales of The Tomb.

“RIYL: Serial killers and death metal. Now, many of you may think the two already go hand in hand, but new dimensions of depravity are opened when you take the murderous criminals Macabre and Church of Misery have been glorifying forever and backdrop it with noise more akin to Cannibal Corpse Fist-****ing At The Gates. Or Vice Versa.” – Decibel Magazine

“It’s got a European death metal feel to it, and while it’s definitely heavy, it’s centerpiece is a melodic guitar solo. If the rest of the EP, out on November 27th, is anything like the first taste of it, signals Tales of the Tomb as a band we’ll be hearing more – Metal Insider

“Grooves entwine and work their way under the skin like toxic vines, whilst the body of the song strolls with a deceitful calm as much hued in more classic metal essences as it is in death metal voracity.” – RingMaster Review

“Volume One: Morpras stands as a melodic treat fans of cold sounding death metal, melodic or otherwise, will definitely get a kick out of.” – Apochs Metal Review
