Tylor Dory Trio from Edmonton, Canada are putting out a new record and it’s exactly the warm proggy hug you need this winter. “Unsought Salvation” is full to the brim with warm riffs and spicy drumming, topped with delectable vocals that will comfort you as the nights grow longer.

TDT explains the connection between the new album and their 2015 debut EP “Carried Away”:

“The album should serve as a valid continuation from ‘Carried Away’ alongside spiritual ties to the first EP. ‘Carried Away’ was tonally quite dark, we feel that ‘Unsought Salvation’ is a more balanced presentation featuring some upbeat tracks alongside darker and heavier tracks that you may have come to expect from listening to ‘Carried Away’.”

For their second single, the band have teamed up with GhostCultMag to premiere the proggy acoustic guitar-driven track ‘Dying Light’. Tylor Dory explains:

“One of the album’s primarily acoustic tracks, our first EP and the Carried Away EP both featured an acoustic song and it was very important to us to carry that forward with ‘Unsought Salvation’. The song is played in an unconventional tuning (DABGAD) that I came up with while trying to gain access to certain chord voicing that wouldn’t have been available otherwise. Like many of our songs ‘Dying Light’ is a journey through many feels and tonalities, starting quite soft and gradually building up to an erupting guitar solo.”

Listen to ‘Dying Light’ here.

Due out December 21, 2019, “Unsought Salvation” has something for everyone and will especially be enjoyed by fans of Devin Townsend, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.

About:

Tylor Dory Trio was conceived in late 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Tylor Dory and drummer Jonathan Webster. Wanting to step aside from playing in extreme metal bands, Dory and Webster decided to form the duo to explore the music close to their hearts – proggy weird stuff. The trio was completed in late 2013 after the addition of their bassist Slava Fedossenko.

Bringing together influences like Opeth, Alice In Chains, and Rush; TDT is characterized by proficient musicianship, tight songwriting, and powerful hooks. It’s progressive metal that isn’t pretentious. TDT loves pushing the boundaries of what a power trio can accomplish, but above all else, it’s about the songs.

Musically, they take their fans on a journey through light and dark tonalities, crushing heaviness to ethereal cleanliness, through peaks and valleys that end up coming full circle.

Their latest full length “Unsought Salvation” was recorded with the prolific Christer-Andre Cederberg at his studio in Kristiansand, Norway in February 2017, to be released December 20, 2019, to follow their 2015 EP “Carried Away”

For the first single off the album, ‘East of Eden’, the trio have put together a video featuring their adventures in Norway where the full length’s bass, drums, and guitars were recorded with Christer Cederberg at Cederberg Studios in Kristiansand in 2017. Vocals and synth were recorded in their hometown of Edmonton at The Laboradory.

When asked about the themes present in ‘East of Eden’, TDT explains:

“It’s’ our leading single and one of the most accessible and hooky songs on the album. I love how the chorus evolves in this song, getting bigger and bolder each time. A song about betrayal, we feel that East of Eden matches the fire of the lyrics while staying refined musically. Also, the only song, other than the acoustic tracks, recorded on six-string guitars as opposed to eights.”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – August 29, 2019

For fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, Haken

THE SLYDE Live Video ‘So Blind’ From Wacken Open Air

L-R: Nathan Da Silva (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Sarah Westbrook (Keyboards, Samples), Andrew Suarez (Drums), Alberto Campuzano (Bass, Backup Vocals)

Returning from their performance at the metal holy land known as Wacken Open Air in Germany, Toronto’s melodic proggers THE SLYDE are sharing with fans live video from the festival of their track ‘So Blind’, which is off their latest album ‘Awakening’.  THE SLYDE performed at the festival after winning the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition and being selected to represent their home country at the Wacken Metal Battle international final.

Watch the Wacken Metal Battle Canada champions slay the stage via premiere on Bravewords.com here.

Vocalist/ guitarist Nathan Da Silva adds:

“It was a real honour and pleasure to perform on the Holy Lands of Wacken. We made a lot of awesome friends and connected with a lot of bands in the Metal Battle. The festival does such an amazing job to keep all metalheads happy. We were also pleasantly surprised with how the weather held up this year, except for, ironically, during our soundcheck, where there was a 2-hour weather delay that forced us to cut 2 songs from our set. Despite these last-minute changes, we rocked the hardest we could and gave it our all. To say that we played the world’s biggest heavy metal festival means a lot to us. Thank you to all the organizers, judges and fans for making this possible.  In addition, we have found even more drive to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our band, with eight shows in September and October and new music and a music video to release in the next few months. ”

Now back on Canadian soil, THE SLYDE will be kicking off their ’10 Years And Counting Tour’ to celebrate their 10 years of performing and recording their melodic prog rock since first forming in Ottawa, ON in 2009 to later re-locate permanently to Toronto, ON.

The band has also played nearly 200 shows on the Eastern Canadian circuit, sharing the stage with such bands as Protest The Hero, Down With Webster, Angra, Pain of Salvation, F*ck The Facts, Dana Fuchs, and Timber Timbre among others, and have made past appearances at Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week, IndieWeek, and Cornwall Lift-Off.

THE SLYDE‘s latest album ‘Awakening’ is an audio masterpiece harnessing the intricate, contrapuntal prog metal they’ve honed over the last decade. Described by critics as “a highly impressive, thunderously powerful, thought-provoking collection of songs” and “vigorous and passionate”, THE SLYDE carve their own path and take no prisoners.

Wacken Metal Battle Canada Champions Proggers THE SLYDE New Music Video ‘These Wars’

L-R: Nathan Da Silva (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Sarah Westbrook (Keyboards, Samples), Andrew Suarez (Drums), Alberto Campuzano (Bass, Backup Vocals)

Winners of the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition, Toronto’s melodic proggers THE SLYDE have released a video for the track ‘These Wars’, one of the highlights from their latest album ‘Awakening’.

The ‘no-budget video’ was filmed in the Toronto region and is a no-frills visual accompaniment to the first single off the band’s second full-length album that was released at the end of 2018. The band shares the video’s concept:

“We had a lot of fun shooting the video for These Wars. We went mostly for a straight-up, rockin’ out, daytime shoot, as we wanted to show what it’s like to see us live in concert.  The song comments on the impact that cell phones have made on society, and I think the silly shots convey that nicely and compliment the performance shots.

‘Awakening’ is an audio masterpiece harnessing the intricate, contrapuntal prog metal they’ve honed over the last decade. Described by critics as “a highly impressive, thunderously powerful, thought-provoking collection of songs” and “vigorous and passionate”, THE SLYDE carve their own path and take no prisoners.

In additional news, THE SLYDE will be performing on August 2nd at Wacken Open Air in Germany, a festival with an attendance of over 80,000. The band is performing at the festival after winning the 2019 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition and being selected to represent their home country at the Wacken Metal Battle international final.

The band adds:

“We are pleased that we made it 10 years doing what we love to do.  And it couldn’t be better, in terms of timing, that we are chosen as the Canadian reps for the Wacken Metal Battle international final – which we are beyond stoked for.  For the tour, we’ll be doing some songs we haven’t played in years, and we hope to see some longtime fans in attendance.  And after the tour, we’ll be hitting the studio to release something special for our 10 year anniversary, so look out for that come Christmas time.  Here’s to another 10 years!”

Launched from the mountain town of Kimberly, Canada, PHAETON released their debut self-titled album this past December. In support of the release, the band has launched a playthrough video for their track ‘Labyrinth’.

In this video, the viewer is taken through 4 minutes of instrumental prog metal with spacey riffs and melodic bass lines. Without the addition, one is able to be completely enveloped in the cumulation of years of hard work from these talented musicians.

As part of their modus operandi, they aspire to take their fans “through space and time and feel a complete visceral release that can only be found through prog metal.”

Fans of anything technical and dreamy will take a liking to PHAETON‘s ‘Labyrinth’ as it follows in the footsteps of Rush, Dream Theater, and King Crimson.

BIO:

In the wilderness of Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada, with a fascination for astronomy, Kevin Thiessen (guitar), Daniel Airth (guitar), Colin Righton (percussion), and Ferdy Belland (bass) united to create the interplanetary, instrumental prog metal that would come to be known as Phaeton.

Since 2017, they have been working quickly as a collaborative unit, honing their skills and orchestrating an attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar.

Phaeton can be experienced with the release of the self-titled debut album out now as of December 21, 2018.

“An epic Progressive Metal listening experience.”  – Trevor Hatter (BeatRoute Magazine)

“This badass band makes a devastating impact with their high velocity musical assault.” – Time Lord (Progarchy)

“A sparkling, sizzling debut from PHAETON, taking us on a futuristic musical journey, with deep roots in the ancient past.” – Stephen Conrad (Progressive Rock Fanatics)

Taking off towards the stars from the small town of Kimberly, Canada, PHAETON is bringing a new kind of instrumental spacey prog metal to listeners across the galaxy. They have been toiling away on their debut self-titled album, which will be released this past December.

In support of the debut album, they have released a guitar and bass playthrough for ‘March of the Synthetics’, a six and a half minute sojourn through delicate prog riffs and heavy pronounced bass work.

They quote that they anticipated taking their listeners “through space and time and feel a complete visceral release that can only be found through prog metal”.

Fans looking for something fresh and relaxing that is reminiscent of Rush, Dream Theater, and King Crimson should check out ‘March of The Synthetics’ via TheCirclePit‘s YouTube Channel at the following link: https://youtu.be/0K_9duq7vZw

MetalInjection Premiere Violin Progressive Metal CYDEMIND’s VIVALDI Cover In Stunning Music Video “Winter”

After releasing their debut album “Erosion” in 2017 and writing the videogame soundtrack of NavyBlue and the Spectrum Killers in 2018, CYDEMIND is back with a new single and music video called “Winter”. The song is an arrangement of one of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Season violin concertos.

Watch “Winter” via MetalInjection.net at the following link: http://www.metalinjection.net/video/cydeminds-violin-metal-shred-was-made-for-winter-in-this-beautiful-video

As the Montreal-based quintet is led by classical violinist Olivier Allard, it was natural for the band to showcase its classical sound in this music video.

“It’s always been in CYDEMIND’s side-projects to make metal covers of classical music pieces, says Olivier. What better way to start than with one of my favorite violin concertos by Vivaldi!”

Co-directors Vincent Allard and Juliette Guerin hopped in the project without hesitation:

“Vivaldi’s Winter violin concerto is already such a cinematic piece with lots of contrast. It was a great challenge to find landscapes that could match both our view of Quebec’s winter while maintaining CYDEMIND’s highly energetic approach to the piece.”

The video was shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada. Scheduled to be filmed in March 2018, the project was postponed to February 2019 due to bad weather.

“As much as we had no luck last year, karma was on our side this year, says guitarist Kevin Paquet. The weather was fabulous, I think it definitely highlights the splendor of our Canadian winters.”

“Winter” was recorded at The Grid studio in collaboration with producer Christian Donaldson (The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Beyond Creation). The artwork was created by CYDEMIND’s own drummer Alexandre Dagenais.

“Winter” is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, and all other major platforms, where you can also find CYDEMIND’s debut album Erosion (2017).

About:
In a world where so much music is bland and generic, CYDEMIND is a breath of fresh air! Mixing progressive rock, jazz, classical, and progressive metal, Montreal-based CYDEMIND is a special and unique band, one we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future. Influenced by such bands as Dream Theater. Symphony X. Haken, Neal Morse Band, and jazzmen like Avishai Cohen and Tigran Hamasyan, violinist Olivier Allard describes their sound as “violin meets instrumental prog metal!”.

Prolific artists, CYDEMIND released its first EP ‘Through Mists and Ages’ back in 2014 and soon after its single ‘What Remains’. After a few years of writing and refining their sound, the quintet (violin, bass, piano, guitar, drums) came back with their first full-length album. Entitled ‘Erosion’, its six tracks are centered around the theme of nature and its persistence through time. Epic is the word here, with one track clocking in at an impressive 27 minutes. ‘Erosion’ was released independently on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and all major online retailers.

CYDEMIND then branched off a bit from the usual metal band musical path to produce the music for the indie video game ‘Navyblue and the Spectrum Killers’. The game released in September 2018 and is available on Steam. In addition to writing the whole soundtrack for the game, CYDEMIND also released two singles ‘Navyblue’ and ‘Lights of Iberia’ as bonus content for the game.

To further expand their musical soundscape and reach new audiences, the versatile band released its first music video ‘Winter’ in March 2019. The single is an arrangement of Vivaldi’s ‘Winter violin concerto’ from the Four Seasons. Shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada, the video highlights both the majestic Canadian winter and the highly energetic performance of the band.

In addition to their recording experiences, the band has performed many times in the Montreal area since 2011 in venues like Foufounes Électriques, Katacombes, Theatre Plaza and more. They recently created the first edition of Proggy Nights in Canada, a small tour that reunited 3 Canadian prog bands in Québec City, Montreal and Toronto.

Aside from their performance expertise, Olivier (violin) and Camille (piano) have also been teaching their instrument for many years. Olivier is a doctorate student in violin performance at University of Montreal, while Camille graduated from the classical piano program at CEGEP St-Laurent in Montreal.

“presented what will easily be among the top prog metal albums of the year…” – Metal Underground

“An epic album in every sense of the word” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Cydemind have an excellent album on their hands with “Erosion.”” – Progressive Music Planet

“Everything a person could want in his or her progressive metal is contained within the album’s six tracks. Heavy, complex riffs? Check. Knotty, constantly-shifting time signatures? Check. Shreddy solos? Double check. Winding, non-linear song structures? Epic track lengths? Uplifting melodies? Check, check, and check. And then there’s that violin. It’s pretty clear from the first few notes that Olivier Allard has classical training, because he attacks his instrument like Yngwie Malmsteen with a bow.” – Indy Metal Vault

Releasing their 4 song mini-album “Prelude To An Impending Outcome” at the beginning of November, Montreal prog quartet FRACTAL CYPHER confirm they will be hosting their local CD album launch on January 11th, 2019 at the infamous Foufounes Electriques. Joining them on the line up will be a stack of talent from Montreal’s progressive metal scene with Darkeon, Unbeing, Moth and Unveil. Full details can be found here.

The band’s new mini-album “Prelude To An Impending Outcome” was produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation) and promises to be a roller coaster of genres across completely different sounding songs with intimate lyrics influenced by personal experiences. Each track has a different prominent genre influence from power ballad, blues, djent and jazz with the band’s heavy and melodic base as an anchor. The album artwork was done by Silent Q Design out of Montreal and foreshadows the moody and existential prog metal that lies within. Although this album is more intimate with different textures and influences, the reception to its predecessor should be a prime indication of the talents of FRACTAL CYPHER; this next release is sure to be a masterwork.

The band adds:

“’Prelude To An Impending Outcome’ is a mini album of 4 songs that are completely different from one to another to create a maximum roller coaster effect and make it non linear and interesting to listen to. The clash of style is more important and more obvious than our previous album, but the songs have gained in maturity in term of songwriting and sound. The vibe of this mini-album is really more intimate, due to the lyrics and the overall ambiance/universe of the songs. The melodic side of the band is still really present, offering catchy vocal lines and outstanding solos all over the songs.”

“Prelude To An Impending Outcome” is available for download and stream on Bandcamp, Spotify and iTunes.

“Fractal Cypher puts up a great effort of establishing a lot of cinematic overtones on the EP / mini-album and really layer their music masterfully.” – Technical Music Review

“I really enjoyed Fractal Cypher’s debut album The Human Paradox, and this new release is a great overview of what the band’s modern progressive metal is capable of… Another strong release from this up-and-coming group.” – Indy Metal Vault

“The band intended the songs to take the listener on an auditory roller coaster ride, shifting from one genre to another, and I expected an album that’d be all over the place. But it’s not: Fractal Cypher manages to carve its identity out of these influences by forging adventurous tracks that twist and turn on a dime.” – Montreal Rampage

“The album flows wonderfully and consistently with powerful and colorful songs. The music is spacious and well-composed and Fractal Cypher have this musicianship that really gels together.” – Boston Rock Radio

“a great progressive metal record” – Music Addict

Set to release their 4 song mini-album “Prelude To An Impending Outcome” produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation) this week on November 8th, Montreal prog quartet FRACTAL CYPHER are sharing with fans their next single ‘The Grandeur of It All’ via Heavy Blog Is Heavy at the following link: http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/2018/11/05/exclusive-premiere-fractal-cypher-introduce-you-to-the-grandeur-of-it-all/

“‘The Grandeur of It All’ is definitely more energetic and straight forward, with back beats on drums, rock n roll riffs on guitars and catchy vocal lines in choruses and verses. There’s a “bluesy” vibe in the song that is quite obvious all the way through, but we keep it progressive in terms of the song structure, dynamics and tempo changes. ‘Let’s have fun!’ is the mood of this song.” explains guitarist Vincent Bruneau.
