DOLL Serves Up a Slice of Real Life With New Single “Melon”
Ottawa alternative rock band DOLL shares their newest single, “Melon,” out now as of October 9th, offering fans a refreshing and deeply personal look at the realities of everyday life.
Following June’s release of “Snakes and Ladders,” which formed part of the band’s evolving Animal Crackers trilogy, “Melon” takes a different approach. While retaining DOLL‘s signature songwriting and infectious melodies, the new track explores the daily grind of modern life and the simple moments that make it all worthwhile.
From traffic jams, bills, and workplace stress to the joy found in family, friends, children, and beloved pets, “Melon” is a celebration of the little things that help people navigate life’s challenges.
“Melon is a day-in-the-life look into our real lives. It’s about the daily struggles and wins, and how the things that matter most are often the simplest. At the end of the day, seeing your kid smile, spending time with family, or even hanging out with your pet can make all the stress and noise fade away,” says the band.
The song’s origin is as unique as its sound. During a casual discussion about the iconic band Blind Melon, guitarist Pete Kasper began playing the acoustic intro that would eventually become the foundation of the track. As the song developed, the title “Melon” felt like a natural fit.
“It’s probably the most mellow and different song we’ve ever written as DOLL. We loved the feel of it immediately. Lyrically, it’s one of the most honest and personal songs we’ve ever released. We wanted it to be fun and catchy while still being completely real,” adds the band.
The release continues DOLL‘s recent creative resurgence. After returning from a lengthy hiatus with their 2025 album “Better Days, Better Times,” the band maintained momentum with fan-favourite single “Shark Bait,” the standalone 2026 release “Bear Claw,” and the recent “Snakes and Ladders.” With “Melon,” DOLL demonstrates yet another side of their evolving sound, trading high-energy bite for introspection without losing the authenticity that has defined the band throughout their career.
Formed in Ottawa, Ontario, DOLL first emerged with their 2009 debut album, “Inside The Dollhouse,” earning airplay on MuchMusic and MusiquePlus with the singles “Daddy’s Little Girl” and “Sally Lost Her Shoelaces.” Their sophomore release, “The Ragdoll Diaries,” followed in 2011 and produced the singles “FMO” and “Youth of Today, Hope for Tomorrow.” Over the years, the band has shared stages with artists including Three Days Grace, Lacuna Coil, Danko Jones, Halestorm, Protest the Hero, SNFU, The Creepshow, Die Mannequin, and many more.
With “Melon,” DOLL offers listeners an honest reminder that even in the midst of life’s chaos, it’s often the smallest moments that matter most.

“In one of the best comeback stories in music in 2025, Canadian Alt-Rock duo DOLL will release their first new collection of material since 2011’s The Ragdoll Diaries… In addition to five slamming originals, DOLL chips in an inspired take on the Deep Purple classic rock anthem – “Smoke On the Water!” “- Ghost Cult Magazine (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
“Doll sharpens their grit with new muscle and melody. Their return after more than a decade is not a nostalgia trip but a rebirth. The Ottawa band’s forthcoming EP Better Days, Different Times (July 18th) expands their core formula of raw energy and no-frills honesty by inviting new players and broader sonic choices into the mix. But even with cello flourishes and genre jumps, their identity remains firmly intact.” – Amplify The Noise (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
“The new track ‘Shark Bait’ from Doll is a blast! The world has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of “JAWS” and now we have a brand new punk-fueled bite in the pants to go along with all of the bloody hoopla. ‘Shark Bait’ is basically straight ahead hardcore riffage with razor sharp teeth, fun lyrics and a precursor to their new EP, ‘Better Days, Different Times’ set for a July 18th release. Catch it on your Home for the Best New Rock… W-J-O-EEEE” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
“DOLL has returned as potent and as impressive as they were before but with greater impact we suggest, Better Days, Better Times quite simply a must exploration for punk and feral rock hearts.” – The Ring Master Review (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
“Christina Kasper’s changeable voice is impressive.” – Keep On Rocking (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
“‘Bleeding’ is a colourful mixture of Hard and Alternative Rock, paired with influences from Punk and Gothic, in a very melancholic sounding melody. The powerful voice of singer Christina Kasper dominates like a siren. ” – Metal Heads Forever Magazine (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)
