New EP ‘Mixed Messages’ Out Now!

Toronto, ON’s Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy unleashed their new EP ‘Mixed Messages’ this past February to continue their solid chemistry of an ‘Allcore’ metal sound with emotionally stirring and socially conscious lyrics.

In support of the release, the ‘Allcore’ metal band will performing a series of Ontario show dates in March, April and May listed below.

‘Mixed Messages’ is a marriage of Adrian Pain’s solo endeavours and The Dead Sexy’s band work to follow EPs ‘Picture Day At Night School’ (2014) and their debut ‘The First One Is Free’ (2013) along with Pain’s solo full length ‘Love Letters & Suicide Notes’ (2012).

Pain describes ‘Mixed Messages’:

“This release is like the gateway drug to metal and heavier music in general! We appeal to a very wide range of musical tastes so guys can play us for their girlfriends, and girls can play us for the guys. If you identify another way, you can play us for whomever you’d like. If any negative response comes out of it, it’ll be the fans that expect every song to get heavier with each effort. What I hope they notice is the constant evolution of our sound. The music itself is getting more and more diverse and progressive, while the song structures are also evolving into bigger, more complex arrangements. I want everyone that listens to this record to feel an emotional connection. I want people to relate to, and hear the MESSAGE in each track.”

Unwilling to take prescribed medications for his severe depression, he found inner strength in the form of the lyrics and music that sprang from his suffering. Together with his son and drummer Ethan Clark, formed a new family in the shape of their band, Adrian Pain & The Dead Sexy. From humble beginnings in 2012, Montreal, QC’s RED SKIES has come together to create a musical style of their own with nothing but their creativity to limit them. “The title for our song New Voice has several meanings. Not only is it our first non-animated visual representation of the music featured on our latest record, Iron Sun, it is also a metaphor for our band’s attempt to be heard in the seemingly saturated music industry of today. The video itself reflects upon a duality in the mind of an individual struggling with his desire to live in an unjust society. It can be interpreted in many ways, but this was the idea we were working with. The viewer will see two completely different situations playing out the main theme with an accompanying narrative. About:

The end of a time and the beginnings of something greater; that is what Red Skies stands for and what its name means to the band members that make up its sound.

From humble beginnings in 2012, the group came together to create a musical style of their own with nothing but their creativity to limit them. Fast, catchy and heavy, their E.P. Identitas (2013) stands as a testament to their reputation as a staple of the Montreal music scene. In the short amount of time the band has been around, they already had the chance to share the stage with many established acts, including: Architects, Enter Shikari, The Acacia Strain, Stray From the Path, Volumes, Being as an Ocean, My Ticket Home, Amity Affliction, For the Fallen Dreams, Obey the Brave, Heartist, Smash Hit Combo, Your Memorial, The Plot in You, The Contortionist, Counterparts, Fit For An Autopsy, Intervals and many more.

In 2014, their hard work was recognized by a large panel of judges coming from all corners of the music industry (Evenko, Extensive Enterprises, The Gazette, Asher Media Relations, etc.) at the “En Route Vers Heavy MTL” contest, during which the band made it all the way to the finals at Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre, under overwhelming participation from the crowd and positive feedback from the judges.

Red Skies continues to push the limits of their identity and sound, striving to create a place for their art and a name for themselves. Their debut record “Iron Sun” (10/13/15) has already received many critical acclaims and keeps doing so as the band spreads their fresh new sound to the masses.

Co-produced with Royce Whittaker at Spinnaker Sound, Quartered has marked their return to the spotlight to follow up 2010’s ‘Walk Like A Ghost’ that was produced by Ben Kaplan (worked on projects with Mudvayne, Chevelle, Alexisonfire and Rise Against) and took the band on multiple Canadian and international tours, one of which saw them playing with Lamb of God and Testament at the 2010 Pulp Summer Slam festival (held in Manila, Philippines). Focusing on conveying moody emotion and mixing heavy grooves, experimental riffs, and hook-laden bridges to paint a picture with lyrics, the band has kept one major goal in mind: longevity. Now the band is ready to unleash their third record, ‘Eyes and Ears’.

Thanks to a group of high school friends fusing their influences into one cohesive sound and the flip of a coin to help choose between band names, Vancouver progressive metal band Quartered’s moniker has certainly given itself meaning over the years.

Inspired by bands like Deftones, Tool and Thrice from early on – Quartered’s focus has always been on conveying moody emotion and mixing heavy grooves, experimental riffs, and hook-laden bridges to paint a picture with lyrics that tell a story while keeping one major goal in mind: longevity.

Following multiple Canadian and international tours, one of which saw them playing with Lamb of God and Testament at the 2010 Pulp Summer Slam festival (held in Manila, Philippines) and two full-length albums, The Falls of Autumn and Walks Like a Ghost, produced by Ben Kaplan (worked on projects with Mudvayne, Chevelle, Alexisonfire and Rise Against), Quartered is ready to unleash its third record, Eyes and Ears, on October 7th that was produced by them and Royce Whittaker at Spinnaker Sound.

Heavily influenced by “memories and how senses play a big part in connecting and helping us remember parts of our lives,” the title Eyes and Ears was chosen because “you can’t un-see the things you’ve witnessed and hearing is such a powerful way to trigger memories,” explains vocalist Greggor Williams.

Before ever actually writing the album or going in to the studio to record it, I spent some time with someone personal who has synesthesia, the ability to hear/ see color when they listen to music. You know it was just one of those crazy moments when every word, and every action means something to you, that creates that still frame in your head that I will never forget, but you haven’t noticed yet. Brooklyn, NY’s DISPARAGER announces they will be performing two NYC show dates, one being a solo acoustic set by vocalist / guitarist Chris AhKao on Sept 1st at Piano’s followed by a date on October 8th at Black Bear Bar (full show details below).

The band recently teamed up with GeardGods.net for the premiere of their new drum playthrough for their track ‘Pictures’ off their latest EP ‘Timeless, Ageless’produced by Jay Maas (Defeater, Bane, H2O, American Nightmare, Polar Bear Club).

Vocalist/ guitarist Chris AhKao comments:

“Pictures is fun for us to play. It’s in 5/4 throughout, there’s 4/4 over 5/4 and 6/8 over 5/4 simultaneous polyrhythm stuff going on, and some metric modulation too. Peter is one of the best drummers I’ve ever played with. He’s pretty out there and challenges us as musicians.”

Formed just last year, DISPARAGER has always had the crazy notion that music is art and that art is never a means to an end but an end in itself. As an extension of frontman Chris AhKao regaining his life from personal demons, this debut EP is a testament to that. Bursting with dense rawness and precision while pushing the boundaries of metal with tracks like “At Least I Still Have Bon Iver” – half folk song, half crushing mix of Isis and Slayer – and “Pictures” – a time signature mindfuck the band is proud NOT to call prog rock. Two years in the making, Montreal, QC’s MIRE are proud to announce the official release of their new album ‘Inward/Outward’ out this week on March 18th to follow up their 2010 self titled EP.

Based on the band’s personal experiences ranging from the study of cognitive science to a military stint in Afghanistan, MIRE‘s 10 tracks marry a sonic wall of loud heavy yet strong melodic progressive rock metal that is winning fans and media over with comparisons of being named heirs to the Tool throne (media reviews below).

“Interpreted through our fingers, tongued and toe tips, this album which we’ve been working on for 2 years at totally different points in our lives, demonstrates the fan of emotions of 5 individuals’ experience.
